So, this helped me with my DC41! We've had ours for several years now and thought it was dying... The Dyson DOES require constant maintenance - It is very powerful and sucks up everything, so it requires attention in order to keep it going. We did have to replace the head, which was still under warranty. Cheers
As a military wife in Korea struggling with my Dyson problem, this was awesome information. My problem was fixed immediately. (Clogged). I was not sure what to take off and was afraid to force it. Being overseas I don't have the choice of taking it to a dealer. Thank you so much for a great video!
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. This was the EXACT problem I was having when I did my search. I followed your steps and now it's back to new again. I've only had it for 6 months and all I could see when I first started hearing that sound was dollar signs.. Now just 10 mins and some Q-tips and it's all good!!
Cedric Robinson Hi Cedric (Cednet). First off thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I'm glad it may have help you out. I felt the same way...$$$. Those Vacs ain't cheap but after a little adjusting, cleaning and re-seating it all worked out. I've had mine for over a year now and it's still working great with no odd sounds. Good luck and have a good one...
My Dyson hums/whistles VERY LOUD when it's running and ESPECIALLY more when it shuts down. I've watched your videos and cleaned everything. Do you think it's a bearing in the motor?
This was so helpful! I did exactly what you described and my problem was solved immediately. Turns out my whistling noise was coming from gunk that came off when I took off the first piece and not a seal problem, but I never would have thought to check that part. So thank you!!
Thanks to your easy to follow video I was able to take my powerhead apart, clean it and put it back together. It works fine now. Hub put carpet fresh crap on an upstairs carpet, I despise that stuff, It set off a series of issues with my dyson. I had taken the powerhead apart but don't think I put it back correctly? I also didn't place that red collar on first. That's very important. I have 4 cats, one is long haired, I do get him clipped once a year. I found his fur wrapped around both sides where the rollers attach! I pulled it off with a tweezers. Cleaned the accordion rubber off, cleaned everything else, made sure all tabs were where they should be, put the rollers back on, red collar piece on then attached my powerhead and it's working great. Technically I don't know what the exact reason was that it wasn't working at 100% the rollers were working though. Just not enough power/suction. Thanks again!
My dyson has started “screaming” when i start using it. Thoughts on a repair. I’ve disassembled the bottom brush portion snd cleaned it. That wasn’t the issue. We love ours and don’t want to go buy another one.
Thank you for the great instruction video. I'm going to see if that fixes my squeal noise, but the noise that bothers me the most is a scraping sound on my tile floors that only happens when I pull the vacuum backwards. I think it is coming from the ends of the clear housing and I think the wheels must not be seated correctly. Do you have any experience with these wheels and if they are fixable or do I need to get the whole housing?
Thank you so much! I thought the sound I heard from my dyson was coming from the ball filter. Wasn't sure cleaning the floor piece would fix it, but I did as you said, cleaned it and the sound was gone. Genius. Saved my dogs ears.
Thanks for the video. I had mine since 5 years suddenly I had that crazy loud noise coming out of nowhere. I followed your steps and no more noises. For us it was all the hairs that got twisted. Lets hope for another 5 year:)
Great job Jojo...my vac is still working just fine also...every now and then I wipe down the areas that get a little dust build up and make sure everything is seated well - seems to keep doing the trick. Hope you have a good one...
Thanks so much for this! I bumped the front corner of my vacuum into a wall and then started getting the strange "sound" mentioned. I took it apart (thanks to this video, I now know how to do that) and couldn't find any obvious seal breaches, so I just cleaned it up and reattached it and voila! - the sound is gone. Still not sure what the source was, but it seems to be good now.
+Stacy Lynch Awesome to hear Stacy. Dyson makes a very good vacuum - thus the price - ouch! After paying that much for a vacuum cleaner I really didn't want to hear those kinds of sounds...I'm glad to hear it worked out for you - without sending it out for an expensive (simple) repair...have a good one.
My mom owns the DC41 and the tiny roller on the brush is bad. She was told the entire assembly "mouth" has to be replaced and will cost over $200. What do you recommend?
Thanks for the video. I had a loud whistle and knew something was wrong. I checked my sole plate and it had a rip in the rubber seal. I ordered a new sole plate from eBay for under $30.
Great explanation. It helped me take the head off and clean a lot of stuff out of there! I had noticed a drop in it's pickup power over the years. That's is definitely why. Thank you for the detailed information.
Thanks for sharing ~ I'm gonna give it a try. I've had mine about 4 months & it will sound normal to start then does a pitchy noise like I've sucked up something bad. But after emptying the canister it wasn't fixing the noise. Thanks again!!
stacey tobias Hi Stacey thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. Ah, the dreaded change in pitch sound. My vacuum started that sound also shortly after I bought it. I thought, lot of money, oh no! I did get mine to stop making the sound and it's still working like a charm. Everywhere a rubber seal meets, just make sure it's seated well. Check the area where it actually meets the floor (where the roller is located), all the areas the canister connects. After that I'd use a dry rag and wipe the rubber seal areas to make sure there's no build up causing a bad fit. After that you should be good.Good luck with that and have a good one...
Our whistling sound was coming from the right side of the canister, between the tube and side of canister. I think the rubber just got folded when the canister was put on
Would’ve been nice if you had shown how you put that part back on the vacuum. Thanks tho for this video. I will try it even though that’s not my problem, but it can’t hurt.
Thank you for taking the time to help fellow Dyson owners. I use a tweezers to remove the dog hair that wraps around the brushes & am curious to know if you have come up with an easier way. *~*
Gobby Cow Hi Gobby Cow - thanks for the comment - I still agree the Dyson machine really does the trick "still". Also I see you took up for me with a few come back comments in the "Removing a locking Lug Nut" video. Thanks for that also. You'll always get a few worthless comments that take more time to type them out than it's worth. Thanks again and have a good one...
Thanks for watching and for sharing with your comment. Glad to hear this may have helped you out. I recently took apart my "OLD" original DC07 (Yellow) vacuum. I was thinking about throwing it out but after cleaning it and installing new filters, WOW it runs like new. Although a bit pricey Dyson does make a very good vacuum. Good luck and have a good one...
I have the same vacuum and that sucking sound (changes as you pull back on the vacuum as opposed to pushing it forward) came from the rubber gasket that seals the clear dirt canister to the unit itself. Much too much flex.
joenissan Thanks for watching and the input ref the vacuum. It did make a higher pitch suction sound a bit until I wiped down all the rubber seals and made sure they all fit properly where the canister seals. All I know for sure is no more sound variation and after 1 year of use it still seems to doing its job 100%.Thanks again and have a good one..
Hi Drew - thanks for watching and for your comment. It's hard to say without actually seeing it. When you say carpet mode - do you mean the brushes on the floor (head) are always spinning. If so there should be a switch (push button) next to the power switch that will engage and disengage the spinning brush head. If you mean you don't get suction when you use the hose mode - I have had that problem also. When I would use the hose only with an attachment tool it seems the vacuum suction would switch back to normal (floor) mode and suction would stop through the hose. As Adriene A advised there is a small flap type opening under the canister. That flap opens and closes diverting (channeling) the suction power depending if you are doing normal floor vacuuming or using the hose / wand with tools. It seems what I've found is the suction "must" be 100% when using the hose to keep that flap engaged correctly. The only way I've been able to keep it engaged is - when using the hose - do not keep the wand attached to the hose. The wand must cause a loose connection causing the suction flap to disengage - reverting the vacuum back to floor mode. When I use the hose (and tools) only - without the wand it seems to work fine. Hopefully you will find an answer in there somewhere - sorry for the run on. Thanks again to you and Adriene A. Hope you both have a good one...
My hearing is affected with the higher pitch. Vacuum is so loud, it hurts your ears. I'm sure it isn't within the govt decibel levels for vacuums or any equipment inside the house.
Dan McCormack Hi Dan - thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I hope it helped a little. I have to say I am still pleased with my Dyson and it's still working well. I may had mentioned - if you're paying that kind of money for a vacuum cleaner that thing better work...and it does. Thanks again and have a good one..
A little constructive criticism if you’re doing more of these videos: Script. PLEASE write a script and stick to it-3 minutes into the video I totally forgot what I was trying to find out because the subject matter was all over the place. Next, detail the noise or, even better, record the noise so ppl know if they’re even looking at the right video-no one who is already frustrated with a vacuum that isn’t functioning properly wants to wait through all the stuff that really doesn’t matter, just to finally get to the “good part” and STILL have no idea if what you’re talking about is the same problem they’re having. Then (and this goes back to scripting), limit the asides and speculation about what parts that ppl don’t even care about right now do. I want to know why my Dyson is making a horrendous noise since it fell over, and I’ve sat through a half dozen videos so far and NOT ONE of them has been descriptive enough-it’s so frustrating I can’t even begin to find the words for it. Anyway, not trying to be harsh, but a few notes might help. I love my dyson too, but I don’t want to sit through 2 minutes of someone talking about THEIR Dyson when I don’t even know if they can help me, LOL. Sigh...on to the next one.
*Overall 5 stars as it's exactly what we wanted,🧼 **allabout.wiki/Dyson-Upright** in terms of cleaning power. Suction is as good as all the reviews state. When we first got it, I first vacuumed with the existing vacuum and then with this, the additional fine dirt that was in the Dyson was gross and convinced me we needed this. We have medium length carpet and a terrier - no issues, I do imagine plush carpets would not work well with this. Also a little too powerful for most bathroom rugs. Great for area **rugs. One** con is the hose, it's great for reaching far away places (ceiling), but is frustrating and hard to use if you're within arm's distance (think couch and floorboards). This is due to the design of the hose having this long metal rod for extension. Also, I haven't figured out how to get the hose back together quickly as it's supposed to nest into the base of the vacuum. This piece might just be user error though.Canister is just like all others, still have to take out the middle insert to get all the dirt out. I often make a mess around the trash as I'm trying to empty it, but the suction picks that right back up.*
I have had my DC 40 for about 6 years and I did not know about that and I will now check mine out.
Thank you Peter
So, this helped me with my DC41! We've had ours for several years now and thought it was dying...

The rubber gasket around your floor seal plate might be out of place. It took him 10 minutes to say that.
After several calls to the support line i have FINALLY gotten it back to where it feels like it's trying to eat the rugs again! Thank you!!!
+Tammy Hesser
Cool - Tammy. I can still say mine is still doing it's job...Thanks for commenting...
Fast forward to 2:43 to spare yourself the rambling introduction.
Doin the lord's work.
Thank you!
His patter is genuinely funny!
Get to the point all ready lol 😂

Good product, works really well, very easy to use, easy to clean, very powerful suction. Works really well on our tile, carpet and wood floor.
2x speed is your friend
OMG, thank you. This was the first comment I saw and I immediately changed the speed. Thank you!

I say it all the time...love it!

The power of the suction is amazing I found a dyson st goodwill

Wayne Lahr mine has started to do the same. I’m in search of the same solution 😩
@@AJArciniegas we ended up buying a new one. thankfully, they were on sale at Costco
Easy to assemble, good strong materials, feels good, looks good.

My high pitch sound comes from the hose not the vacuum its self any tips?
THANK YOU! This video helped me identify the problem.
I know exactly what your talking about and that’s why I was looking for a video to fix it
I know it’s 6 years later...but thank you!
Dyson the best damn vacuum in the world, where Dyson leads the competition copies.

How do u reattach it after
mine is only working in carpet mode, what have done and how do I fix it?

Look under the bottom of the back hose...there is a flap there that may be open. Just feel around at the back and you'll see it

Fast forward to 4:00 actually, that's to the point not 2:43
Absolutely the dirtiest machines I have ever tried to clean. Cheap thin plastic crap. I got a SEBO from Germany . Puts Dyson back in the shade.
Brevity is key
you could have let us hear the sound ?
really helpful thanks
