  • Stan and Rhonda from Over The Hill Adventures decide to fit the largest tire they can on their new truck. They are joined by Bob the owner from Elite Mobile Tire Service from Lake Havasu City Arizona. Come with them as they find out if 35 inch tires will fit on their stock height Chevy Z71 2500HD Duramax Turbo Diesel. They also will be using their stock rims. Stan is incredibly surprised what he finds out during the fit test. See what tires Stan decides to put on their new truck.

    Thanks for the video. Im looking for wheels and tires for mine. The Z71 does add height. I don't remember the difference. The stock tires are 275 65R20 (34s) . At least that is one of the tire options from chevy on this truck.

      TXPatriot 70, thank you for your comment. Our stock size that came with the truck was 265/70/17. I chose to keep the stock rims. When running 17 inch rims give you a smother ride than the 20 inch rims. The Ford Raptors run 17 inch rims. Just food for thought. Thanks for watching our video, Stan

      My 2020 is almost level and is on 35s, been off road a bunch and no rubbing. That's with stock rims which are 7 or 7.5 inch wide. Had M/Ts on for a while (no highway shake). Switched to BFG K02s and according to GM tech (and BFG site) rims are to narrow for that tire, truck shakes over 55. It's been balanced 3 times including road force balance. I have the exact same truck, 2024. Put on a set of fuel 18 x 9 wheels with +20mm offset, and a set of 35" x 12.5" x 9 falken wildpeak at3 tires. They do rub when the wheel is turned almost all the way, not a huge issue, but just noting that with a wider tires and positive offset they will rub at full turn, and obviously will rub with even less turn when offroad. I will be adding a cognito premium 3" suspension leveling kit with fox PSRR shocks - that should reduce the instance of rubbing - the specs say 'Allows for up to a 35 x 12.5-Inch Tire on a 9-inch Wide Wheel with 5-inch backspacing' but, a +20mm offset is equivalent to just under 6-inch backspacing, so I suspect still just a minimal amount of rub at full turn.
    **Update** with the suspension leveling kit noted above, there is no rub.

    Z71 and std are same....only rancho shocks that are different......had both and personally I would take stock AC DELCOS over ranchos.....twin tube are horrible....
    Everyone's tires are different so just depends on manufacturer.....those look really good and it does need a bigger tire to fill out wheel well on new models.....would take BFGs over Nittos, and pretty sure they run a lil small as well
    Plus diesel sits lower in front over gas version as it weighs like 800# more........depending on GVRW rating

    • @OverTheHillAdventures
      @OverTheHillAdventures  2 роки тому

      Kirk, thanks for your comment. It is not only the Ranch shocks. The stance of the truck is different. I’ve had both also. It also has skid plates which I did not have with the other truck. Side by side the Z71 sets higher in the front.
      Regarding the fit test. It was done with a different tire. I’ve ran different truck tires for almost thirty years. As a cop we always used Goodyears on our trucks for performance. Went through tires like crazy but we can always count on them. Personally, I would go with the Cooper Discoverer they last longer and perform better than any tire on the market. BFG is a great tire they just don’t last. This is the first time I have used the Nito Ridge Grappler. I can tell you the tires are great and super quiet. I will let you know how they perform. You are right all tires are different.
      You are correct about the Duramax diesel. The box weighs a heck of a lot more and takes away from the payload. I wanted to go with the gaser for the extra payload but the gas mileage sucks on the big motors!! I’m a little disappointed with gas mileage on the diesel. On a good day I get 13 to 15mpg towing. Empty I get close to 19mpg. I was expecting a lot more. The truck is a beast off the line 445hp Duramax with the 10 speed Allison. I used to have the Dodge Cummins it doesn’t come close. Kirk thanks again for your comment. Hope to hear from you again. Thank you for watching our video!! Stan and Rhonda

      Hi John, yes my Z71 came with 17” rims. Ridiculous right. However, I have no complaint. It gives the truck a much smoother ride. Most Ford Raptors come with 17” rims and big tires so when they hit the desert dirt road the truck floats with their very expensive suspension. The cool part, if your truck is coming with 20” rims then you will already have 34” tires. 275/65R20 come in at 34.1 inches. However, some guys get wider after market rims and get a little wider tires and run into rubbing problems. Keep your stock rims if you want go wider on the tire. The Z71 has a good stance so no need to worry about a leveling kit. Hope this helps. Stan
