Vegeta probably made requests for the design. He hated the late namek armor. She does say the armor vegeta “requested” so it’s not unlikely he had some specifications for it. It’s also likely why the android saga armor and the cell saga armor have different boots
There is only the Android Saga which starts when Frieza comes to earth and ends when Trunks goes home and kills No.17, No.18, and Cell. The U.S. broke it into different "sagas" and called Gohan 11yrs old/ teen Gohan which are all wrong🤓💯
That's why it's great that Goku wears different clothes at the end of the Boo Saga when he fights Oob in the original story. In the Super story he should have kept the Whis outfit instead of the same boring ass outfit he's had since Dragonball👎🏽👎🏽😩💯
I just realized why I like the Resurrection 'F' armor design so much. It bears a heavy resemblance to the armor Vegeta wore during the Namek saga, which is where I first got into watching Dragon Ball Z. 4:15 What do you mean by "having yellow tips just like real saiyan armor"? Vegeta was rocking the solid white boots when he first got to Earth. Anyway, ultimately what matters is the general aesthetic of the armor, which is why Piccolo doesn't want to distinguish between Bulma's sets and the rest of them. They're too similar, and none of the armor designers seem to be keen on keeping a single standardized type. So these small changes are bound to happen, and further similarities among the different designers would naturally occur since they were all following the same general aesthetic principle.
Ah good point, I could have worded that more clearly. I just was only trying to point out that the yellow tips are a feature from other authentic armor sets that were added later in the series, but did not mean to imply his plain white boots weren't also a design we've seen before.

Btw, there IS one panel in the manga that has the dark variant of the vest armor you're talking about, it's in chapter 127 of DBZ when Trunks first shows up (and visible in my youtube video at 1:17, top right corner for a very brief moment)

My head cannon just says that Vegeta had a reference in head on what updated armour looked like and wanted that instead of the older armour he was using, and the boots he was using were just his old ones from namek until they wore out and bulma made new ones that fit the design of Vegeta's new armour. It shows that the 2 of them are spending moee time together, rather than either one of them individually making random decisions on their own. Which considering he lays down pipe around this time, just kinda makes the most sense to me.

I think what would have done the series good if if armor was also determined by Saiyan class or position in their military. It would have been a better way to categorize why they all have different armor designs and colors. Because even Toriyama's redesigned amour with the squared-off shoulder pads, and black color, could have had meaning.

The battle jackets with no shoulder pads are the old models worn by Vegeta against Jeese and Frieza. Bardock wears the old model in the original Dragonball manga and in the special episode with the rest of his crew other than Tora (Z Bardock IS cannon since he appeared in the original manga.) Low level Saiyans mostly wore the old battle jackets. This is all in the original story/timeline. In the Super story/timeline it's different🤓💯
Bruh your thinking way to much into into it. It's reverse engineered armor meaning it functions practically the same as the original, that doesn't mean it's going to look exactly like same though.
Its battle armor. Just a redesign of the original. Its possible different races can have the same ideas, its why spaceships, guns, lasers, houses etc look identical.
my thoughts exactly. it isn't "saiyan battle armor", "custom earth armor", or "frieza force armor". it's literally just "battle armor", something common to warriors across the galaxy. heck, when the Cold Army first arrives on Planet Vegeta, they are wearing the same armor style as the saiyans. its just "battle armor". no more, no less. it isn't something to ponder much about. the saiyans showed up in armor and the cool armor design just stuck as the go-to design for anyone wearing armor. helped sell it's commonality that the frieza force (a galaxy-spanning diverse conquering empire) shared the same style as the three saiyan villians that invaded earth. and then Bulma introduced said style to the Z-Warriors when they felt the need for additional protection.
I always interpreted it as Vegeta just describing an older model to Bulma, he really doesn't seem to like the one he gets on Namek so if she does make him new armor it makes more sense it wouldn't just be a straight replica of the one he got on Namek
If he didn't like the 1 on Namek then why did he pick it? Why didn't he give it to Gohan or Krillin & take 1 of the models he would of given to them for himself, like Gohan's which he was wearing prior? Idk if it as ever explained & I missed the reasoning

There's a very good chance that Bulma took input from Vegeta on that first re-engineered armor set, and he may have given her a history of the design of battle armor. The shoulder strap design could have been something that previously existed, and hadn't been used for some time that Bulma decided to use as a bit of personal flair.
I think this may be an example of convergent design. That is, it's not that bulma got the idea from somewhere else, but rather that in reverse engineering the armor vegeta came to earth with, her improvements eventually settled on a design as a matter of practicality, and it just so happens that that's the best design style for its purpose that other people have also discovered.
I always imagined that bulma designed her armor to look similar to vegeta's early namek saga look bot removed the shoulder wings either at vegetas request. (Perhaps he realized in his fight with frieza that he perfered the mobility of not having them over the minor protection they provide) or bulma simply removed the wings because she personally didn't like them aestheticly.
I mean, the Battle Armor that Vegeta wears since the Android Saga is made by Capsule Corporation, so of course it's nowhere near Accurate to the actual real Saiyan or Frieza Force Armor.
Saiyan armor was replaced by this which is Frieza armor. This video being completely wrong aside, I always just thought they could have small deviations in their armor and some saiyans, or their armor smiths, were usually just not very creative, and lower ranks would get the most copy/paste styles. I mean look at DBS Broly. Broly also does not wear saiyan armor, or Frieza armor by your logic. I like it, but it looks completely different from anyone else's and now Frieza Force armor has square shoulders, it's like a retcon. It's not supposed to make sense. It just is this way now. The new square pauldron armor is way more numerous and a way crazier retcon to me than Vegeta's old DBZ armor lol. This is some weak sauce.
The only plausibility to me is just that Minus is a bit of a retcon, with the armor. Where as in the original run, Vegeta was the only one with that design, so it would have been easier then to say it was original from Bulma or even influenced by the Yardrat shoulder straps. Toriyama might have just reused it as a design, because its just viewed as Saiyan armor, and not Bulma's armor. Unless now, its only arguable to assume Vegeta just told her that was what he wanted if it had meaning. Like if it was for something specific like over the other designs. Because there has to be a reason why Krillin and Gohan had the pauldron Freeza soldier design, while he didnt take it. (At the same time he was turning against Freeza, symbolically?)
I actually cut a huge chunk of the video that discussed what you're talking about since it veered too much into fan speculation. My head canon is that after trying the tank top armor on Namek, he realized he preferred armor without pauldrons and asked Bulma for something similar, potentially even using Leek's armor as reference. As for why Vegeta chose his Namek armor, the pauldron design was stated to be a newer model, implying that the tank top model was technologically inferior. Vegeta begrudgingly took that design because it was the only armor in his size (which is its own can of worms, since they're supposed to stretch to any size...). But I agree that visually differentiating him from the rest for Freeza's forces was a great storytelling touch.

Sometimes when people get too speculative in videos, it tends to be headcanoned as fact by people, even if it makes sense -- but I'd rather just see how the question stands up to what is officially given or not given based on the manga or Toriyama's art. So if there is no answer, then that should be the factual conclusion. Its just a mystery.

I think this is the timeline of events The Saiyan's invent the armour then use in in their invasion of planet Tuffle and then they take over an unknown amount of planets catching the attention of King Cold who hires them an mass produces the Saiyan battle armour for the rest of his forces as well as the Saiyan's and obviously they made different variations and upgrades over time
The clear answer to the boot question is that Vegeta dropped something heavy on his toes, and thus the yellow plating added to the toe tips for future iterations (but Vegeta refuses to wear the updated design)
I wonder though, is the armor something from Saiyan culture, or something Cold imposed on them after colonizing them? (since he and his soldiers wear it too). Because if it's the latter, I don't see why Vegeta would want to keep it.
In universe, it was probably just Bulma coming up with a similar design by coincidence. Out of universe, I'd imagine Toriyama decided to have a bunch of alternate armors and ended up drawing the extra lines on back to differentiate it.
i actually dislike that vegeta went back to wearing his armor it seemed slowly through the arcs that his armor got smaller and smaller until buu where all he had was jumpsuit and gloves. by gt standards he went full native and was wearing regular clothes that too was step to far idk somehow his putting armor back on felt regressive.
How you know Dragon Ball is great is because thousands of us care about something as small as armor designs, & are willing to watching videos comparing them
I think that Vegeta just drew up/gave a description of a form of standard issue battle armor, like just the first set that came to mind, and it would just so happen it would be the same kind that the *REAL* Bardock and Leek wore for some reason. Maybe he just found it more comfortable than those big ass shoulder pads or that stiff looking tank top
Wasn't it mentioned right after Vegeta and Trunks came out of the time chamber during the Cell Arc that Bulma based the design off of original saiyan armor? I thought everybody knew that.
The anime adds a few lines of dialogue talking about her design process, but in the manga, Bulma doesn't say anything specific. Piccolo's line about dressing like Frieza's men is the only hint we get.

Couldn't vegeta just have described to her what this armor looked like which lead to her making it? That would explain how the armor could exist prior to her making it which is also probably why the armor has the pointed toes, and it makes sense that vegeta had at least some minimal input so maybe he just told her about this style of armor in come capacity and she made it 🤷♂
Could just be a case of duel inspiration which would make sense all the saiyan armors look to be very customized as if there is no standard template,i mean look at dragons in our world almost every civilization has a dragon ledgend even before these nations even knew the other existed but almost all share some key details like scales,fangs,claws and generaly reptilian in nature.so saiyan are if all made custom fpr eqch fighter is bound to have some overlap with other designs no matter how unique.
I'd like to think that the in-universe reason Vegeta has that design is because he told Bulma how he wanted it to look. There is no rule set in stone that all of Freeza's soldiers would have the exact same suit designs. There are times when some designs are combined to make a completely different suit.
As you mentioned, the armor in question is now outdated. It has either been phased out, destroyed, or repurposed to create the armor currently worn by the majority of Frieza's forces. The one that Vegeta has could be a legacy model, or the three previous scenarios have yet to happen.
I feel like bulma just rushed to get it done and added the shoulder straps and it could be argued that bulma made the oldest battle suit armor the saiyans have due to not having the right equipment to make one of the newer models
It's called a BATTLE JACKET not Saiyan/Frieza/whatever armor. Bardock wore a similar type of battle jacket Vegeta wears in the Android Saga in the Bardock special episode. The special IS cannon since it appeared in the offical original Dragonball manga. Super is an alternate timeline so you can either go by the original story or the Super story🤓💯
Guessing this guy never watched the Namik saga, where Vageta took his first one from and gave both Krillin and Gohan theirs, Vageta even stated that the one he took was the newest model of Freiza force armor and the ones he gave to krillin and Gohan where older models..😂

Saiyan/freezer force armor design has no rhyme or reason, probably because freezer doesn't care if his forces accesorize or tinker with the design. The only armors that have any sort of theming are the ginyu force and and the royal armors. Everything else is fair game.
I love videos like this trying to break down and analyze something the Akira Toriyama never even thought about lol. The way he writes he doesn’t even pay attention things like that. He probably drew that armor on that other Sayin because he thought it looked good on him. That is how he operates.
The problem with trying to figure out DB canon is the tendency of Toriyama of forgetting a lot of details of his own work, make stuff up on the spot and cut corners.
I think that real life armies might actually have a workable explanation for this. In real life weapons used to vary significantly (even for the same so called models of weapon, vehicle, uniform etc) based on which contractor manufactured this for the army. You can see this most prominently with the German WWII tanks, which often times had almost completely different setups even for the same model due to a lack of standardization. Or how Springfield Armory almost ruined the armalite rifles when they modified them into the M-16s to try and push a higher firing rate out of a gun that wasn't designed for that. Between that and it likely being possible if not common for soldiers to modify their gear it's not impossible for the saiyan in minus to have a design coincidentally similar to Bulma's, nor is it impossible that Vegeta preferred a design like that but simply didn't always have the ability to get that due either to him wanting to look more like his father or due to him losing status after Freeza killed the saiyans
I figure vegeta was involved in the design and the part about bulma reverse-engineering it was more about the tech involved to actually produce the thing to standards vegeta is used to making it a real saiyan design that a real saiyan instructed her on while she genius'd a way to make it with human technology
"I Made More of the Battle Suits that Vegeta Asked For Last time" this clearly indicates that the suit design was made via Vegeta's imput, leading me to think that Bulma got the design from Vegeta's own description of it and most likely gave it some modifications to make it more durable and still flexible. It only makes sense for it to be that since if not than that one sentence wouldn't make sense at all.
I could be misremembering but when vegeta went to the ship on namek and he found the armor to replace his current one didn't he say something along the lines of "Huh? Oh well, It's an older model but it will do." if there were differnt itterations of the armors it would make sense that no saiyans were wearing that type of armor in any media we've seen as it could've been an armor set from before vegeta was even born, being an obsolete model no saiyan would wear.
Bulma doesn't need to have seen the armor with shoulder straps to make one. Vegeta must have known about that model and asked for those features. Frieza's army has lots of different armor styles and they could add even more and it still make sense. Buma's version is indeed copied from the Frieza force armor, just not an exact version she saw directly.

His race and planet are long gone, so he has to take what he can get in terms of saiyan gear, authentic or copy cat. So yeah, he only had a bunch if the newer frieza force gear in the absence of traditional saiyan Armour, but it's stilled based in HIS people's armor. Imagine if all American clothes were nearly wiped out, then an American stumbled across something incredibly similar to jeans, they'd probably wear them.

You're right, this is pretty pedantic. Especially when Toriyama admitted that he accidentally switched SSJ3 and SSJ2 around a lot during the Buu Saga. Which is why we almost never see SSJ2 in the Buu saga
SSJ2 is pretty common in the Buu Saga though. For the first half of the Arc, its Gohan's strongest form. For Vegeta it's his best form the whole way through. Even Goku uses it before SSJ3 is revealed against Majin Vegeta.

Toriyama did not do anything as insane as that while the manga was still running. The "forgetting SSJ2" thing happens decades later, with Dragon Ball far from his mind for a long time. Toriyama did not "forget" major things like this as he was actively writing - SSJ2 was *named* in the Buu Saga and is an explicit plot point for the Gohan vs Dabura and Majin Vegeta fight.

If Gohan was SSJ2 he would have killed Dabura no problem since Dabura is around Cell's power level before he self destructed. He also would have had yellow around him instead of white🤓💯

my thoughts exactly. it isn't "saiyan battle armor", "custom earth armor", or "frieza force armor". it's literally just "battle armor", something common to warriors across the galaxy. heck, when the Cold Army first arrives on Planet Vegeta, they are wearing the same armor style as the saiyans. its just "battle armor". no more, no less. it isn't something to ponder much about. the saiyans showed up in armor and the cool armor design just stuck as the go-to design for anyone wearing armor. helped sell it's commonality that the frieza force (a galaxy-spanning diverse conquering empire) shared the same style as the three saiyan villians that invaded earth. and then Bulma introduced said style to the Z-Warriors when they felt the need for additional protection.
I always interpreted it as Vegeta just describing an older model to Bulma, he really doesn't seem to like the one he gets on Namek so if she does make him new armor it makes more sense it wouldn't just be a straight replica of the one he got on Namek

I never thought it mattered exactly what the theoretical serial number or product code would’ve been for this particular model of armor.
There's a very good chance that Bulma took input from Vegeta on that first re-engineered armor set, and he may have given her a history of the design of battle armor. The shoulder strap design could have been something that previously existed, and hadn't been used for some time that Bulma decided to use as a bit of personal flair.
I think this may be an example of convergent design. That is, it's not that bulma got the idea from somewhere else, but rather that in reverse engineering the armor vegeta came to earth with, her improvements eventually settled on a design as a matter of practicality, and it just so happens that that's the best design style for its purpose that other people have also discovered.
I always imagined that bulma designed her armor to look similar to vegeta's early namek saga look bot removed the shoulder wings either at vegetas request. (Perhaps he realized in his fight with frieza that he perfered the mobility of not having them over the minor protection they provide) or bulma simply removed the wings because she personally didn't like them aestheticly.
Tbh I don’t think the shoulder pads really restrain anything considering it’s demonstrated multiple times in the series that they are super flexible

I mean, the Battle Armor that Vegeta wears since the Android Saga is made by Capsule Corporation, so of course it's nowhere near Accurate to the actual real Saiyan or Frieza Force Armor.

Saiyan armor was replaced by this which is Frieza armor. This video being completely wrong aside, I always just thought they could have small deviations in their armor and some saiyans, or their armor smiths, were usually just not very creative, and lower ranks would get the most copy/paste styles. I mean look at DBS Broly. Broly also does not wear saiyan armor, or Frieza armor by your logic. I like it, but it looks completely different from anyone else's and now Frieza Force armor has square shoulders, it's like a retcon. It's not supposed to make sense. It just is this way now. The new square pauldron armor is way more numerous and a way crazier retcon to me than Vegeta's old DBZ armor lol. This is some weak sauce.
That's if you can even call that zesty shit armor.
The only plausibility to me is just that Minus is a bit of a retcon, with the armor. Where as in the original run, Vegeta was the only one with that design, so it would have been easier then to say it was original from Bulma or even influenced by the Yardrat shoulder straps.
Toriyama might have just reused it as a design, because its just viewed as Saiyan armor, and not Bulma's armor. Unless now, its only arguable to assume Vegeta just told her that was what he wanted if it had meaning. Like if it was for something specific like over the other designs.
Because there has to be a reason why Krillin and Gohan had the pauldron Freeza soldier design, while he didnt take it. (At the same time he was turning against Freeza, symbolically?)
I actually cut a huge chunk of the video that discussed what you're talking about since it veered too much into fan speculation. My head canon is that after trying the tank top armor on Namek, he realized he preferred armor without pauldrons and asked Bulma for something similar, potentially even using Leek's armor as reference.
As for why Vegeta chose his Namek armor, the pauldron design was stated to be a newer model, implying that the tank top model was technologically inferior. Vegeta begrudgingly took that design because it was the only armor in his size (which is its own can of worms, since they're supposed to stretch to any size...).
But I agree that visually differentiating him from the rest for Freeza's forces was a great storytelling touch.

Sometimes when people get too speculative in videos, it tends to be headcanoned as fact by people, even if it makes sense -- but I'd rather just see how the question stands up to what is officially given or not given based on the manga or Toriyama's art. So if there is no answer, then that should be the factual conclusion. Its just a mystery.

I think this is the timeline of events The Saiyan's invent the armour then use in in their invasion of planet Tuffle and then they take over an unknown amount of planets catching the attention of King Cold who hires them an mass produces the Saiyan battle armour for the rest of his forces as well as the Saiyan's and obviously they made different variations and upgrades over time
The clear answer to the boot question is that Vegeta dropped something heavy on his toes, and thus the yellow plating added to the toe tips for future iterations (but Vegeta refuses to wear the updated design)

I think that Vegeta just drew up/gave a description of a form of standard issue battle armor, like just the first set that came to mind, and it would just so happen it would be the same kind that the *REAL* Bardock and Leek wore for some reason. The anime adds a few lines of dialogue talking about her design process, but in the manga, Bulma doesn't say anything specific. Piccolo's line about dressing like Frieza's men is the only hint we get.
My head canon is that Bulma took The Old style Armour that Vegeta wore when he was fighting Frieza on Namek,Made some adjustments to the Design and Flexibility and Gave it to Vegeta to try on.

Couldn't vegeta just have described to her what this armor looked like which lead to her making it? That would explain how the armor could exist prior to her making it which is also probably why the armor has the pointed toes, and it makes sense that vegeta had at least some minimal input so maybe he just told her about this style of armor in come capacity and she made it 🤷♂
Could just be a case of duel inspiration which would make sense all the saiyan armors look to be very customized as if there is no standard template,i mean look at dragons in our world almost every civilization has a dragon ledgend even before these nations even knew the other existed but almost all share some key details like scales,fangs,claws and generaly reptilian in nature.so saiyan are if all made custom fpr eqch fighter is bound to have some overlap with other designs no matter how unique.

I'd like to think that the in-universe reason Vegeta has that design is because he told Bulma how he wanted it to look. There is no rule set in stone that all of Freeza's soldiers would have the exact same suit designs. There are times when some designs are combined to make a completely different suit.
As you mentioned, the armor in question is now outdated. It has either been phased out, destroyed, or repurposed to create the armor currently worn by the majority of Frieza's forces. The one that Vegeta has could be a legacy model, or the three previous scenarios have yet to happen.

It's called a BATTLE JACKET not Saiyan/Frieza/whatever armor. Bardock wore a similar type of battle jacket Vegeta wears in the Android Saga in the Bardock special episode. The special IS cannon since it appeared in the offical original Dragonball manga. Super is an alternate timeline so you can either go by the original story or the Super story🤓💯
Guessing this guy never watched the Namik saga, where Vageta took his first one from and gave both Krillin and Gohan theirs, Vageta even stated that the one he took was the newest model of Freiza force armor and the ones he gave to krillin and Gohan where older models..😂

Saiyan/freezer force armor design has no rhyme or reason, probably because freezer doesn't care if his forces accesorize or tinker with the design. The only armors that have any sort of theming are the ginyu force and and the royal armors. Everything else is fair game.
I love videos like this trying to break down and analyze something the Akira Toriyama never even thought about lol. The way he writes he doesn’t even pay attention things like that. He probably drew that armor on that other Sayin because he thought it looked good on him. That is how he operates.

The problem with trying to figure out DB canon is the tendency of Toriyama of forgetting a lot of details of his own work, make stuff up on the spot and cut corners.
I think that real life armies might actually have a workable explanation for this.
In real life weapons used to vary significantly (even for the same so called models of weapon, vehicle, uniform etc) based on which contractor manufactured this for the army. You can see this most prominently with the German WWII tanks, which often times had almost completely different setups even for the same model due to a lack of standardization. Or how Springfield Armory almost ruined the armalite rifles when they modified them into the M-16s to try and push a higher firing rate out of a gun that wasn't designed for that.
Between that and it likely being possible if not common for soldiers to modify their gear it's not impossible for the saiyan in minus to have a design coincidentally similar to Bulma's, nor is it impossible that Vegeta preferred a design like that but simply didn't always have the ability to get that due either to him wanting to look more like his father or due to him losing status after Freeza killed the saiyans
I figure vegeta was involved in the design and the part about bulma reverse-engineering it was more about the tech involved to actually produce the thing to standards vegeta is used to
making it a real saiyan design that a real saiyan instructed her on while she genius'd a way to make it with human technology

It is Saiyan battle armor, it's just Bulma's version.
"I Made More of the Battle Suits that Vegeta Asked For Last time" this clearly indicates that the suit design was made via Vegeta's imput, leading me to think that Bulma got the design from Vegeta's own description of it and most likely gave it some modifications to make it more durable and still flexible. It only makes sense for it to be that since if not than that one sentence wouldn't make sense at all.

I could be misremembering but when vegeta went to the ship on namek and he found the armor to replace his current one didn't he say something along the lines of "Huh? Oh well, It's an older model but it will do." if there were differnt itterations of the armors it would make sense that no saiyans were wearing that type of armor in any media we've seen as it could've been an armor set from before vegeta was even born, being an obsolete model no saiyan would wear.

Bulma doesn't need to have seen the armor with shoulder straps to make one. Vegeta must have known about that model and asked for those features. Frieza's army has lots of different armor styles and they could add even more and it still make sense. Buma's version is indeed copied from the Frieza force armor, just not an exact version she saw directly.

So yeah, he only had a bunch if the newer frieza force gear in the absence of traditional saiyan Armour, but it's stilled based in HIS people's armor. Imagine if all American clothes were nearly wiped out, then an American stumbled across something incredibly similar to jeans, they'd probably wear them.

You're right, this is pretty pedantic. Especially when Toriyama admitted that he accidentally switched SSJ3 and SSJ2 around a lot during the Buu Saga. Which is why we almost never see SSJ2 in the Buu saga
SSJ2 is pretty common in the Buu Saga though. For the first half of the Arc, its Gohan's strongest form. For Vegeta it's his best form the whole way through. Even Goku uses it before SSJ3 is revealed against Majin Vegeta.

Toriyama did not do anything as insane as that while the manga was still running. The "forgetting SSJ2" thing happens decades later, with Dragon Ball far from his mind for a long time. Toriyama did not "forget" major things like this as he was actively writing - SSJ2 was *named* in the Buu Saga and is an explicit plot point for the Gohan vs Dabura and Majin Vegeta fight.

If Gohan was SSJ2 he would have killed Dabura no problem since Dabura is around Cell's power level before he self destructed. He also would have had yellow around him instead of white🤓💯
