I feel like him being a different color in the bug planet episodes is a nice touch to contrast how desolate and dark the place was for the most part. Nappa's armor and Scouter are a different shade too, so you can always write it off as Vegeta's armor and usually darker brown hair being now a lighter shade due to how the light works on the different planets atmosphere.

It's a lesser-known fact that in the manga industry that there's usually several middlemen between the manga's author and what actually gets printed, let alone the people involved in adapting what was printed into something else like a show, play, or even game. The most infamous of these middlemen is usually the Editor, which most famously for Toriyama on account of his several appearances as the butt of a gag was Torishima. Getting a direct line from a literal-who cell-shader at an animation studio, through their animation supervisor and/or director, into the publishing sphere, to ask Toriyama himself, is not the kind of chain that can be linked during the crunch time that anime production is infamous for. It's likely a small miracle that they were able to get an answer from the publisher at all, on top of the miracle that there just so happened to be a single colored panel of Vegeta for a powerscaling page available for reference a few weeks before the issue's release.
And as a side note here's my explanation for Vegeta's alternate natural hair colors the reddish brown was essentially a complete guess on Toei's part there was no official color for Vegeta's hair at the time so they went with what they thought it'd be and that same color would eventually be seen again in a couple DB media later on as a nod to the first anime appearance the exact same way they still have the original anime colors of the armor as a recolor in some of the games as for the purple perhaps it's either a nod to the purple hair of the Capsule Corp family as he's a part of it or it's just simply artistic license that they thought would look cool since it's essentially different
purple part doesn't make much as sense as your others, plus it was most likely used for highlighting, like how spider-man's orginal color scheme was red and black, but blue was added in as a coloring highlight so the black wasn't all solid, same could be said for batman's random blue color scheme in some comics too.

It would make sense that behind the scenes the animators would get access to the magazine artwork before it was released publicly, using that artwork as a reference to what Vegeta's color scheme was supposed to look like. What I'm wondering is why didn't they ask Toriyama himself what Vegeta's colors were supposed to exactly be, but I'm guessing the answer to that would be since Akira has much of a tight schedule as the animators as a mangaka, he would have no time to even answer such questions....
Here’s a made up theory - since Vegeta and Nappa are on a different planet. maybe the atmosphere impacts the planet’s light and color palette that’s coming through from the sun or star. 🤷♂️

I think I've heard that someone who worked on dbz said that Vegeta's hair is brown they just show it as purple, redish(the design's hair you've talked about) or mostly black cause of the other saiyans also have black hair.
I like green vegeta
I always wondered why they made Vegeta green and orange in that part of the anime.
Clearly Vegetas diet eating the sentients of the planet changed his skin 🤧
Thats my favorite vegeta design
I want an Arlian Vegeta/Red Shirt Shaggy crossover event.
First ever super saiyan god before he got ripped of that title and made it into a legend! XD
1:45 i love the color
i hope we get this fit on sparking
It looks kinda weird in comparison to how he normally is. But really, it ain’t even that bad. The armour comes in a variety of colours and hair changing colour in Dragon Ball is kind of trivial by now.
I always actually preferred it.
In jojo, character colors are about the feeling of the moment
But this isn't jojo
@@wreday720 maybe it is.
@@wreday720 when Goku is mad his hair turns yellow not because of super sayian but because of artist color pallet change jojolike
They're from planet Vegetable, and most vegetables have green on them.
his hair color is black & it just changes differently then human hair. Think about it. His hair glows almost gold at some point, so is it so hard to wonder that maybe other things can change his hair color
I actually missed that version of Vegeta
I would love to see how he would look now if they kept that look
Abomination? That is drip.
Honestly though I kinda like the colors. The hair not so much but I kinda like the armor colors.
the green skin in the game is Menacing!
"Remember this abomination" excuuuse me, don't speak to me or my color incorrect art ever again
Haha y'know after staring at it for hours/making the thumbnail art, I've grown to love it
Ya me friend started to watch dragon ball from beginning to end and when he hit saiyan saga he was so confused and when he asked me about i told him i had no clue myself with my best guess being a false super saiyan situation.
Well made video
I actually kind of like it. It looks alien and weird.
