    Even with proper use of birth control, pregnancies still happen. Working as a maternity nurse, we’ve had ladies who had their tubes tied - - a few had babies after. We’ve had men get vasectomies, yep pregnancy happened - - especially if the man did NOT go back to see if he’s ‘shooting blanks’ (one of my sisters has a daughter for that reason). I learned early on, to have patients repeat my instructions - - to be certain that they really understood the info.

    I had kinda the same kind of phone call with a client when I was a veterinarian assistant. I had a client call & wanted to know how well did a certain kind of tick collar the veterinarian hospital I worked for at that time had sold. It works like a flea collar but it was for ticks & not as toxic as the ones sold over the counter AT THE TIME. Anyway the client called asking how well does it work? I told him that we completely guaranty it & it had something like 95-97% affective. He yelled back at me & said "IF IT WORKS SO WELL WHY AM I STILL GETTING TICKS ON ME AFTER I PUT IT ON?" I had to stop & think about what he had just said & I asked him "sir where did you say did you put the tick collar?" He then repeated himself very slowly that he bought 4 tick collars & he put one on each of his wrists & one on each ankle. He then went & worked in the woods & yard all day. But when he checked himself after he put the tick collars on himself he still found ticks on him! I stood there for a few seconds & looked at my coworker like are you freaking kidding me? I then asked him again "did you say you put the tick collars on yourself?" The client - "yes, one on each wrist & one on each ankle & I still have ticks getting on me"! As calmly as I could, without laughing & without asking if he was joking but I did ask if he was serious? He said he was very serous. I then informed the gentlemen that those tick collars he put on himself was for dogs. He said really, are you sure that it doesn't work on people since he had 4 of them on? I had to tell him no sir I'm sorry but it doesn't work like that. Then he was quite for a little bit & then he asked me then how was he supposed to keep ticks from getting on him? I said I didn't know but I did know that no matter how many of those collars he puts on himself they wasn't going to work on people, they was for dog use only! He then said thank you & hung up. That was really a call I answered when I was in my 1st few years as a veterinarian assistant.

Had to do gymnasthics to put those in place, only lying down helped to seal it fully. And they put pressure on my bladder. Hilarious skit. Sad it may have been a real interaction though.
    Oh how I despise the Nuvaring. That damn thing nearly put me in the ER after “wearing” my first one for barely 40 minutes! I’m not allowed to take birth control due to my medical issues. Unfortunately for me, from the age of 16 when I had my first period I took after the rest of the women in my line and had agonizing cramps, dizziness, disorientation, and blackouts the whole time I was bleeding. By the time I was 22, my patience was threadbare with all the different gynos I’d seen who wouldn’t listen to a thing I said and just prescribed birth control. Finally, I met a great gyno who consulted with my other docs, reviewed my charts, paid attention to all my specific issues and seemed convinced that Nuvaring was going to work for me. I’ll admit it: she made me confident in it too. About 20 minutes after insertion, I was so dizzy I couldn’t stand, violently nauseated, and cramping worse than I’d ever cramped in my life….which is a hell of a thing for me to say. I remember screaming for my mother and asking her to call my dr because I could barely function I was in so much pain. Gyno wouldn’t answer but my specialist dr told me to remove the Nuvaring asap and if symptoms persisted at this severity more than an hr after removal, to go to the ER. My symptoms stopped about 40ish minutes after removal. Worse yet, when I told my gyno about the experience and explained I would not continue using the Nuvaring, she got angry with me and said I was not very cooperative! So I started looking for another gyno again.

    • @kailyns8159
      @kailyns8159 Рік тому +27

      @@kathleenevans112 I’m not sure if it’s that they know more, or that they pay more attention to the patient. My maternal grandmother was a nurse and a nursing professor. She used to talk about all the stupid dr decisions she caught that could have killed her patients. Mistakes on paperwork seemed to be the main issue. Once she had to call a dr at home, wake him up at 3am-ish, and tell him he had to come back to the office because he forgot to sign off on a new medication order the patient was supposed to start taking at 4am. But she also had to stop shots, IVs, even procedures sometimes. And saving patients from people who didn’t pay attention/forgot about allergies to certain drugs. That happened a lot too.
      I’ve done pretty great with finding competent, attentive, honest drs who will listen to me in many areas of my care. But I seem to be cursed with nothing but bad gynos. I’ve probably gone through 8 maybe even 10. And I just left my most recent one when she ambushed me with an in-house procedure that she said wouldn’t have lasting effects. It did. Major ones. So I’m searching for new gyno yet again.

I say virtually impossible because as a vet nurse (yeah I know not quite the same), very very rarely a dog that has been spayed(ovaries and uterusetc removed) becomes pregnant. What happens in those cases a bit of ovarian tissue was accidently left behind, or there was extra ectopic ovarian tissue... Size is very important with those. That can include your man's size, but that can be compensated with proper technique, that being being shallow enough to not reach the ring.
      Unfortunately, they can't be custom fitted for optimal effectiveness.

I do have to worry though about the availability of birth control--or any med for that matter--on the internet especially if the country of origin or the qualifications of the doctor prescribing it is unknown. I can understand people going this route because sometimes a medication is cheaper if they get it online from another country and the anonymity aspect of it but I think misuse is probably a big issue.

      Many years ago I worked in an extremely popular and very busy frozen yogurt shop. We were required (and was strictly enforced) to tell customers if they bought a frozen yogurt cake that it was frozen yogurt and it needed to be kept frozen and removed roughly 45-90 mins before serving to a fridge and to not keep it out too long. That we did not offer refunds on frozen cakes etc At least once every 4-6 weeks mostly in the warmer months a customer would come in so mad that their cake had melted a common culprit was a hot car in the summer! But I only left it in the car for 30 mins in 85degree heat…. I was just astounded! And many were like but no one told me it would melt! And we were like we do tell you upon check out and there are instructions on the label. They would legit just get angry that we should have told them frozen yogurt melts….And you know there had to be others who just didn’t return and complain. Like what part of frozen did you NOT understand?!?

    • @a.katherinesuetterlin3028
      @a.katherinesuetterlin3028 Рік тому +3

      The only problem is, there are families where a young teen girl might need BC due to hormones, but if her parents are conservative to where they automatically assume a woman takes BC "just to have sex" (as if that's a bad thing), she may not be able to get in to see a doctor or nurse practitioner without her parents preaching hell fire and damnation at her. The fact this attitude still exists is exactly why online BC purchases have to be a thing. Because at least someone sane in her family might be able to get it for her on the sly.
      I know, this shouldn't have to be a problem. But considering that before the US even became a nation, the Puritans were basically "infecting" the future collective unconscious with their ultra-prudish, anti-female drivel. What's worse is some women still buy into such ideas, even as they themselves suffer with tough hormonal stuff. It's messed up, bottom line.

BUT I'm also literate: able to read, understand, and follow directions and procedures. Plus I've taken a few medical crash courses. I understand that may not be the norm with the general populace.

There was one couple that came to ask what is wrong with the woman since their birth control method doesn't work for them - they trully believed that she was sick or something. Well, then came the usual question "What kind of method are you using?". The doctor expected condom or pill. Nope. This couple found info that breast feeding blocks ovulation so their method was that the man will massage and suck her breasts before they do the deed 😂 The funniest part was that they used this method FOR YEARS and this visit happened when she was pregnant with their 4th child (all were unplanned pregnancies ofc).
