I am an Elementary Art Teacher & I use my iPhone to document the process & final art project that my students make. This is a wonderful video tutorial, thank you! I started my mac learning when I had to go to my computer class in high school back in 1988! When I went to College I was taking graphic art classes and purchased my first new computer from Apple. It was a Centris 650 . So lets just say its been awhile after raising my children. I now use my iMac.... but learn as I go, so again I find your tutorials very helpful and educational!
Jeez...Working on a memorial slide show for my husband who passed away 4 months ago. Lost up to my ears, even with wonderful local help. Your videos further enhance what I am learning. And your lessons concise and great. Big Thank You David in Province Town, Ma. Maranne on the north coast of Oregon
I have been an Apple user since 2005. Your tutorial is one of the most concise & professional videos I have ever watched. Can't wait to watch more! Thank you David
Just a great class. No wasted time, no personal stories from the commentator. (So many times they feel it's about them and not the info being imparted - Enough already, show me the tools.) I'm also a fan as the lessons begin at A and end at Z. So easy to follow along. Of course, if you need to hear it again, easy-peasy (did I really just write that?). David Cox, you rok. Please continue to enlighten me/us.
Great video, thanks! My photos were all in one big pile. Now they are all organized with albums now and are searchable by description or keyword. Subscribed
Thanks David, this class was just what I needed to organise my photos. I've struggled with Apple Photo for some time and these tips are a great way to get the app working in a way that makes it easier to find the images I need.
I mainly watched this video to learn how to delete duplicate photos but I learned so much more. If I was to criticise anything it would be when you say click on a certain key I wish you could show that key.
This class is awesome! I have many, many photos and have struggled to organize them...after watching this 20 minute class, I have hope that I'll be able to finally organize them. I've watched a few of David L. Cox's TechTalk America videos and each time I've learned so much!! He presents the info clearly and concisely and is so easy to listen to and follow!! Thank you David L. Cox and Tech Talk America!! You are awesome!!!
Great video - just got a new iMac and didn't want to just import all of the photos without thinking through how to organize them first. I had used Photoshop Elements, so was used to folders. Your explanation of Smart Albums, Albums, and Folders was just what I needed. I also liked learning some of the keyboard shortcuts, such as using the period to mark photos as favorites. Thank you so much for a great tutorial!!
Thank you David... This was my first experience with your channel, and it cleared up some basic stuff in Photos (which I hated to switch to) and I will be watching much more often on your videos...
I just found this video and I couldn't be happier!!!! I can't thank you enough for all this information. My photos are a hot mess and I can't wait to organize them by month and then by year. I knew there had to be a way but I couldn't figure out how. This is awesome! And thank you for the tips regarding the cloud and hard drive for back up! PS - You are very lucky to be living in Cape Cod, I love it there!! Thanks again!
I'm a new Mac user so this was really helpful. Thank You. I still can't figure out how to USE my photos in certain programs but I'm hoping to figure that out soon.
Great and easy to understand even from a hearing impaired person - used the subtitles as well and can work through the exercises with ease. Thank you David :)
Great tutorial! I'm a new-to-Apple user, and I found it to be very easy to follow. I really like how you enlarge and highlight the areas that need to be clicked, as well as how you clearly explain the command Z or command I. Now, if I can just figure out how to upload my Android phone photos onto my Mac, I'll be a very happy camper!
Excellent easy to follow instructions...I havlearned a lot of new techniques into concepts like metadata that I would before now be fearful of playing around with. Now I shall...more confidently. On another matter I am not able to 'sign' into live classes where I can input any questions like I used to do. I used to sign up for classes on PCClassesOnline. I am now accessing classes on UA-cam. How should I be accessing live webinars?. With appreciation, Paul
Thank you, my window of photos didn't look like yours, I found 'Enter full screen' under 'View' and now it does, thanks so much made my life easier for sorting out my files...now I can watch some more of your video.
this Tech Talk America is soo awesome i really love it cause recently i bought the Macbook pro, i had no idea how to properly use it unlike Microsoft it totally different and this Tech talk america is really giving me soo many idea i really love it thankyou soo much
David - Hope you feel better. Great videos! Just bought my first mac and have been watching all your tutorials. Very informative & useful. Questions: 1) How do you rename your pictures either in photo library or albums in mac? 2) How do you watermark all your photos in the library? Thanks!
First Dave video. Great but would have liked to have seen how to get rid of dups with apple sw. also how the pics are organized on Mac HD. Difficult to get a certain photo and give to someone else. Will look for answer perhaps in one of your other videos. Thanks again. Good stuff
Hello David, Thank for the clear explanation on how to organize my foto's. I have over the 8,000 images which need to be organized. Will love to follow other tutorials but first things first, organizing my fotos. Greetings from Holland.
Hello David and thank you so much for this one.It is great. Do you know if there is a way to create a Smart Album with just pictures that are not in any album yet. This is because I think is important to see the pictures that need to be sorted. Thank you so much.
Thanks VERY much for very helpful info on how to ID unorganized photos. A question for you: Is there any way to tag photos with info that will automatically put them into one or more albums, or do I need to drag each photo individually? And, a related question--do I need to use Photoshop or a more sophisticated program than Photos to really organize the thousands of images I have?
Thank you, Dave. Enjoyed your video: organized, easy to understand the step by step directions, visual steps on the computer made the steps easy to see, get to, understand the progression. I learned many tips and tools I did not know existed. Thank you for sticking to the point: not a lot of miscellaneous chatter.
Thanks for a very helpful class. I recently made a slideshow using Photos with both photo and video content. When transferred to I Tunes and a USB drive to show on a smart TV the slideshow works but the video is slow and jumpy and it loses the sound. Any suggestions or is there a specific class on this? Thanks.
Yes! Such a life saver... literally! I could never go back to using windows, yet, I'm still learning my mac. All your vid's have been tremendously helpful. On a side note, I have a lot of gopro video's, and I mean that in hours, thus taking a lot of space and they're, subsequently, stored in my "Photo's". Would backing them up into iCloud be wise as I delete them from my Photo's app? I should note that I do not have an external hard drive, as of yet.
First time here. Great simply explained. I only have the iPhone nothing else. Computers are mentioned as a wsy yo arrange photos. Can these instructions be applied to the iPhone specificity? I will be back...
Very useful overview and some helpful tips. I'm puzzled about the difference between the Photos folder and the All Photos album. Apple says that the All Photos album shows everything but doesn't explain whether they are impressions of the Photos folder contents or the originals. On my Mac the All Photos album has fewer images than the Photos folder but I don't know why. I'm also confused about where all the duplicates are coming from and which ones are safe to delete. I'm digging my heels in about the iCloud option so still use My Photostream.
Hello David, saw this vid although it’s 2 years ago😳I have a question,I need to delete some pics on my iPhone and keep the originals in my iCloud. How should I do that?Appreciate your reply.BTW,many thanks for the great videos🙏
Just discovered your vids! They are fantastic!! Would you have any tips for importing photos from iPhoto off a really old iMac to Apple Photos on a new iMac?? It's all backed-up via Time machine and I also have a drive with a copy of all the original photos on their own. The old iMac is from 2006 running Snow Leapard, so very old. Any help would be appreciated :)
Perhaps this has been covered, but what would you do with iPhone videos that tend to get automatically pulled into the photo library. One single video folder? Multiple video albums? Would a video also not be duplicated by putting it in multiple albums? Any info, or videos where you discussed this would be great. Just found you through this video tonight --Super helpful
Always love your classes. I am such a hands on person with little time and watching your videos are so easy and you are so good at explaining and making it interesting. Thank you!
Very helpful video, I wasn't thinking of using this app even when I had it for couple of months already because of the horrible experience I had with iPhoto. But now I am, apple should pay you what you're doing for them.
The best long term solution for maintaining keywords and photos is to make a folder in Photos for each keyword. Every day put new photos in the appropriate folder. And every so often go to each folder, select all, and assign the appropriate keyword. I've been doing this for a few months and it's the only time I've ever been able to keep up with keeping keywords on photos current.
Just what I was looking for! Thank you so much! The favoriting as a temporary tool for further organizing was an eye opener!! Thanks so much and I am looking forward to watch more videos like the time machine one you mentioned in this video!!
Hi David. I just tried the link for time machine class, but it's not available. Do you have a new . link for it? I'd really like to check that out! Thanks... (I love your tutorials!)
+Mark Collier Hi Mark - Just viewed the video again and it is now fine. I think I originally viewed it before the HD versions had propagated. Thanks. Richard.
Great video. Does anyone know how to re-sort an iPhoto album, AFTER you've adjusted some of the photo's Date and time? When I resort the photos, it doesn't seem to make any changes to photo order. Thanks
Brilliant training session. The one thing I struggle with on iPhoto's is not being able to stack multiple folders one inside each other. There are still a few things that Windows does much better than APPLE and this is one of them.
Great class. But one additional question that wasn't addressed. If I have a group of pix and I want to move pix 1 between pix 6 and 7, how do I manage that option? I've tried dragging the pix, but it didn't work.
Thank you great video ! What i am looking for is i usually like to select my photos and make it into an event so i can find it easily. Could you help me with it or guide me to a tutorial that is also done, cause i like to type up words and find the same photos of the event
Hi David, I'm importing photos in bulk and created smart albums inside year folders ahead of time. After importing, will the previously created albums automatically pull the photos based on their dates then place the pics in their pre assigned albums? Thanks for all the tips and keep it going. Love your work
great class! I was searching a way of organizing, when I need to add pictures to the Facebook when I am in Facebook, post photo and I need to chose from Media/photo of my Mac. I hope it make sense. Thank you for the class
Thanks David I have a quick question. You mentioned about creating the my best photos album but then you never finished with how to remove the photos you want removed off of your phone or tablet without deleting it off the actual mac?
David as usual great job. I had a ton of (physical) pictures which I finally scanned into Photos and the date that resulted in Photos was the date I scanned them. I also took a bunch of old pictures I had on my PC and transferred them on a thumb drive (stick) to Photos on my MAC. Some had good dates while others had the current date. I suspect that was before metadata or perhaps it didn't copy the metadata. Therefore, It sounds like I have to go in and manually adjust them to the dates or least years they belong in. Any thoughts how to do it easily?
Hi David, Great tutorial! I just would like to ask you one question. If you import your pictures from the Pictures Folder on the finder to Mac Photos, are all these duplicated in your hard drive?
Hi Dave, great tutorial! Thank you :) I have a question. Back in the days of iPhoto, I used to import, and then organise all of that import into relevant albums / folders. Now with Photo, I notice the images still appear in the imports folder after they have been 'filed' into albums. Is there an easy way to see what has been sorted so you can easily find them in the future without scrolling through thousands of photos?
Thanks for another great, helpful, succinct and easy to understand tutorial. Loved Command R (rotate) tip and also the two-backup suggestion. Happy Holidays.
Thanks David, your tips are helpful. Can you also do another video on Photos, explaining the difference between groups Photos, Shared and Albums, as it appears in Photos App on the iPhone and iPad. and how does they impact the deleting of photos in any of these groups.
Like all the classes I've taken from David, this is a very helpful class which I will review multiple times until I am facile with the info. Thank you very much.
Hi, thank you for your tutorials. I have two MacBooks and I would like to synchronize the photos folders so that they both carry the same photos. What it the best way to do it? Thank you.
Hi David, greetings from NZ. I have just enjoyed your video on organising photos and it occurs to me after someone suggested more editing etc that there is a Mac program called Affinity Photo available from the App Store (20% discount at the moment) is a very good alternative to Photoshop. I recently trialled it and purchased because I found it easier to use and it has 6 extensions to the Photos app.. It might be worth doing a class on Affinity Photo. There are a lot of tutorials too. In the mean time best wishes for Christmas and the New year.
Interesting and informative even though I don't own a Mac. I can see where some tips apply to pc. Would love to see more tutorials for iPad/iPhone. Moving music (self recorded) around, getting rid of duplicate photos on devices, editing within device - iPad. Thanks for your great tutorials.
Thank you for the video! I have a question regarding photos in the Photos app. How can you zip (compress) multiple photos that are inside the app? I can't seem to find such a finction anywahere and I need to zip photo files in order to transfer them. Thank you!
Thank you for addressing KEYWORDS... I have a g'zillion photos and lots of family groups, and I found that was the best way to group the photos. I use multiple keywords for each photo so that I can use smart albums to look up either all the "smith family photos" OR look for "SMITH - Joe" photos . I would love to hear more hacks for using Keywords. (I have requested that Apple create a "blank" option when searching all photos through Keywords , so that I can find all my photos that I have not yet assigned a keyword and eventually assign Keywords to those photos...Fingers crossed)
David - how do you copy the photos from an individual album on one drive onto another drive, say an external drive, on Mac without copying across the whole library?
David i like your videos, thank you, im curious how to have a folder on the side, and with those photos inside the folder, can be removed from the main photo album
Photos can now be optimized . They're all stored on iCloud and a much smaller version is stored on your iOS device. So even though it looks like all your photos are stored on your device. They are downloaded quickly when you select/view them. So there's no need to sync only some pictures.
You deserve respect for having this audience, I did not see any person saying 'first' in your comments.

I have been an Apple user since 2005. Your tutorial is one of the most concise & professional videos I have ever watched. Can't wait to watch more! Thank you David
David Cox is the best instructor for all Apple products in my opinion. He is articulate and understandable.
He is great. I also learn a lot from screencastsonline.com.
Hello just happen to come across you video on how to organize photos. What a really big help. Thank you very much.

Wow! The first computer class I could follow. The ability to puse was also helpful, but dave you are a clear thinker and teacher!
Grazie!
THANK YOU for magnifying your steps! Other demos I watched were so small and no way to zoom in on what they were doing. Great tutorial, thanks !!!
Great video - just got a new iMac and didn't want to just import all of the photos without thinking through how to organize them first. I had used Photoshop Elements, so was used to folders. So valuable , what you are teaching. I have to view the video several times, but you are a great teacher. I am a slow but willing student. thanks.
Thank you David... This was my first experience with your channel, and it cleared up some basic stuff in Photos (which I hated to switch to) and I will be watching much more often on your videos...
Very well spoken. Low tone. Good explanation of instructions. Easy to follow along
While casually managing my photos I've ignored useful features for years. Thanks for the overview. I'm pumped to try tags!
as a PC user I am so pleased to have found your site to brush up on my MAC skills before seeing clients !
It gives me pleasure to listen to you given those tips and tricks to organizing my photo album. I really enjoyed it!!!! Thank you so much.
I just found this video and I couldn't be happier!!!! I can't thank you enough for all this information. My photos are a hot mess and I can't wait to organize them by month and then by year. LOVED this class. Better than the class at the Mac Store.
I have been waiting for a class like this forever after switching to a Mac. Thank you!!!!
Thanks David, your tips are helpful. Can you go over how Titles and Descriptions in Photo Albums are used.
I rarely leave comments, but you Sir, are very helpful! I learned A LOT about this software. Previously, I thought it was terrible. Until TODAY!
Excellent easy to follow instructions...I havlearned a lot of new techniques into concepts like metadata that I would before now be fearful of playing around with. Now I shall...more confidently. This was a wonderful experience. You answered so many questions I have had. Thanks a whole bunch. You made my day!

now if you can just tell us how to do the same with saved emails you would make my day❤️😊
Another GREAT video . I’m sold on your tech talk America website also
Thank You
First Dave video. Great but would have liked to have seen how to get rid of dups with apple sw. also how the pics are organized on Mac HD. Difficult to get a certain photo and give to someone else. Will look for answer perhaps in one of your other videos. Thanks again. Good stuff
someone finally explained how to organize photos; thank you.
Hello David,

Thank you so much David for being so generous with your time and knowledge. Both are very much appreciated.
I will be back...
First time I watched your videos. Good intro for me and am looking forward to going more in depth in the future. Thanks!
I've been wondering if photos have any feature of categorising pics by keywords. Thanks for covering it Dave.
Love the class! I wanted to visit the Tech Talk America Store, but link is not working.
thanks for showing how to put the side bar back on, though im not sure why i don't have that search button next to the + sign, top right.. ?
thanks for some really helpful tips again - your classes certainly make working with these apps lot easier
Thank you for a very nice lesson, you are a very good teacher, clear, concise and informative and the plus a great voice
Very good video, could you do a video on editing raw files in Photos App, and what is the use of the 'extension' tab while editing pics in the app.

Just what I was looking for! Thank you so much! The favoriting as a temporary tool for further organizing was an eye opener!! Thanks so much and I am looking forward to watch more videos like the time machine one you mentioned in this video!!
Hi David, thanks for the video. Is there a way to export photo metadata to a spreadsheet (.csv)?
Thanks Dave! I did pick up couple of tips watching this video. You have a great voice, easy to listen to...
Hi David. I just tried the link for time machine class, but it's not available. Do you have a new . link for it? I'd really like to check that out! Thanks... (I love your tutorials!)
Hi David - Another great video... but it seems to be very low resolution (360p). Could you put up a higher res version please?
+ricnev It's in 1080, so if your stream starts lower than that, click the gear icon and choose a higher resolution.

Love your style, liked and subscribed, because you'll be helping me a lot in the future. Thanks David.
Thank you!
Thank you sooooo much you taught me more than I thought I did lol.
Another great video for us non tech types to follow. Thank you!
Please more photography/editing/computing vids...THANK YOU‼️

Hi, Thank you for this lesson! What to do in case iPhoto didn't totally migrated to Photo? Thx for any response. Hedy
Photos can now be optimized . They're all stored on iCloud and a much smaller version is stored on your iOS device. So even though it looks like all your photos are stored on your device. They are downloaded quickly when you select/view them. So there's no need to sync only some pictures.
