There are several factors that come into play when choosing the best windows for your project. Price, performance, appearance, and function are all important, but none of those factor come into play if the window you want won't come in for over 9 months! Commercial glazing can help alleviate the lead time woe's by fabricating the window frames on site, having the glass units custom built, and then assembling the unit in place.
These Kawneer commercial windows fit the Monarch Woods Barn perfectly and saved us months of lead time. Yes, they were about 25% more expensive than a competitive composite window, but the aluminum frame with an integrated pan are a bullet proof choice.
These are thermally broken and their industrial design makes replacing glass a snap down the road.
The main design consideration is the larger frames, but this can be mitigated through scale and proper use of trim work.

Another Jordan Smith video! How do you keep reading my mind? I'm replacing windows in the near future since my house is 100% single pane with leaky frames (the windows and frames are 90 or so years old, so I don't blame anyone - they've held up really damn well for windows that are approximately twice my age). This is yet more great info. So glad you're uploading again.

Thanks for the inspiration - I love that look. I probably won't be able to build my own until I retire, a couple of decades from now 👴🏻but that is a fantastic looking bit of architecture (& building expertise)
Looks like the pan is aluminum? And thus a massive thermal conductor?
If you're comfortable sharing, what was the cost per unit for this style of window?
