I agree with the majority of these comments. It looks amazing. GM should’ve done this. I think you guys would sell more units. If you did the work in the house or sold finish units with the agreement that you get their old top.
I think that looks awesome. My concern is you cut out main supports on the deck lid, so how does that affect the structure integrity. They were obviously there for a reason. I have a HTC and you can raise and lower the top at 30 mph. What's going to happen to the lid when you do that now? I wouldn't do this mod myself, I would take it to a body shop to have them do the install. It looks really sharp, looks like it could have come from the factory.. GM should incorporate this into their HTC design. I'm sure they would sell more HTC's as many coupe buyers wanted to see the engine.
Yeah I would definitely get a deck lid from the salvage yard and cut on it. Zero chance I would let a shop cut on my C8, so salvaged piece is the best option for me. I really love this though, looks fantastic and can definitely pass for OEM ( design wise).
Sign Shop guy here. That cut-out is barbaric! Roto-Zip? Cheap bit? Egads! There are plastic rated high-speed bits! Tape/ secure as you go. No chunks will drop. Nor crack-n-hang while working.
Yeah, I would definitely take this to the best body shop I knew. If I did it, the car would come out of the garage looking like the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile.
Air brush a picture of your engine on the trunk - boom - problem solved ;) This does look pretty cool though - I'd probably purchase a second hatch and go for it myself :)
I would not cut, sand, or drill any holes in the original rear trunk cover in my Corvette, but I would purchase another Corvette rear engine trunk cover and rear engine cover from the Chevrolet dealership and install the window glass on it at a professional body shop. I would save the original trunk engine cover and put it away in a safe place
Looks great but having that first clear window cover they installed and then the actual window, wouldn't the engine bay over heat? Didn't look like it would get enough cold air.
That Fing SICK!! Going to ask Boost District the cost to do that when they get my C8. Gotta come out of my retirement tho.. hard decision, got interview Friday.
If you all produced a complete replaceable decklid that just needed to be painted I would buy it knowing it would be significantly more money. But I would never cut up my own car.

Chevrolet now offers this clear cover as an option on MY25 Corvettes (I'm assuming they got the idea from this kit), so I have to assume that it will hold up pretty well to the heat.
My buddy had this done to his HTC. It looks GREAT, but he will not tell me how much installation cost. It must've been crazy expensive because he typically brags when talking about how much he paid for frivolous things he's bought.
This seems the engine only shows when the top is up but when down I dont think it would show. Thats probably why chevy didn't do it or chevy will do a similar thing in the future as the c8 is said to have a 10 year run from rumors I've heard. If that's true chevy will have something like this after the 6th year of the c8 to freshen it up and make more sales.
Chevy produces the same model Corvette year after year after year without any changes, this kind of modification would bring people back for new models.
I hope this might make it to being available from the factory one day; just like the aftermarket made available the clear cover for HTC, and now the 2024 HTC you can order it from factory.
@@_Car_Ideas The install went smooth had the kit was painted Carbon Flash by INC Collision Houston and American Audio Concepts Houston did the install i post a video Monday
It looks nice but with the entire kit, engine cover and what others things you have to buy and install to look good it would cost more then 4k maybe even more then 5k just to see a plastic engine cover when the top is up. Most of the time you drive a convertible top is down. For that money i wouldn't do it. A nicely loaded c8 htc z51 will cost a little over 100k after tax. Maybe if a used high mileage one for around 65k and no more warranty maybe but on a new car probably not and it might avoid warranty if a dealership wants to be that way.
Exactly! I would have no problem reading instructions “throughly” and breaking out my Dremel. Anything can be accomplished by following the instructions. Tedious and Meticulous is right up my alley🤞🏼
I purchased the HTC because I didn’t want Bubba and his half breed children leaning up against the side of my car scratching the paint, but this great idea now they’re going to climb up the side of my car so they can look “at the motor”. I’m sure that this version would only make them want to stand on each other’s shoulder so they could climb up and then look into hole. removing structural integrity is never a good idea on any type of motor vehicle
Honestly if I were to do this project I would buy the least expensive c8 HTC used as prices go down an older model probably base LT 1 60 k version only exterior paint of choice and taste and hire an expert with specific experience to this task with all the pro shop equipment needed to do this right.

Will not modify it other than intake screens I have installed. But this is just me. You do you. Too bad GM didn’t do this from jump street. Seeing the engine is simply a must.
I've said it before so many times, why would you want to put a plastic cover (or whatever it is made of) over the engine,,, when you can just look at it, why would I want to view a engine thru something,,,, it just doesn't make any sense and such a waste of money
LOL this "convertible is a bit of a misstep. Gigantic buttresses remain AFTER dropping the top. The point of the C8, the mid-engine is hidden. the much less expensive coupe is far better looking.
I think it looks great, if you sell the rear HT engine section as a whole I’d buy it but I would never attempt this on such a pricy vehicle.
I agree, would love to buy it complete and just have a local body shop paint it to match

Just one concern from me. You cut out the support system that makes it strong, so how is it reinforced since those parts are gone?
The bonded window frame and glass is a stronger reinforcement stucture than the small bracing that was removed.

Chevy should have done this from the start. Kudos for creating this!
I would like to know where did you bought the HTC engine window because I'm trying to get one for mine
Does it void the warranty?
yes it might.
100%
Even though I spent years working with fiberglass tooling on Aircraft it would make me VERY nervous cutting out the windows on my C8.
When can i get this?
Will this void my warranty?
Where do I get that engine intake cover?
does this also work for the z06 convertible?
This needs to be a factory option. Dealers couldn't install in this manner.
Looks pretty cool but waaaay too complicated to do alone
I imagine you have to buy the intake manifold from the coupe because the intake manifold on the convertible is just a black plastic manifold.
For me, that is one of the many things I like about the C8 HTC.....NOT seeing the engine.
I’d be inclined to by a HTC if I could get you to fly down and install this window.
