Ok, so several points:
1. I recently bought my 23 C8 and just bought the blocks. I was initially disappointed when I placed them on because there were visible gaps between some of the pieces and how they fit that i took pictures of. I chalked that up to poor quality control at the manufacturer, or that they should have used silicone instead of semi-rigid foam.
2. I was going to return the product and try something else for my 1st wash, but after seeing this video, I'm reconsidering. Your method is for people that just want to win. The blocks are designed to assist, not solve every problem (though I sometimes use the blocks just to keep out dust when I'm not driving). So I've changed my mind and will try it out.
3. Good call on repositioning the vents
4. It would have been nice if you'd have shouted out the brands you used for the wash like the soaps, Terry cloth mitt, and anything else you use if you detail your own car, etc. I'm always looking for ways to improve.
Overall. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the great comment. I agree I would have used silicone. I do know a new version is almost ready for production. Hopefully it solves some of the problems. But if I’m able to keep out most of the water with this method. It’s still a win for us coupe owners.
Only a retired guy could do a car wash like that. No one else has 6 hours to wash a car. 😂😂😂😂
LOL!
Actual factual!! 🤣🤣🤣
If you don’t have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over. It really only takes a very few minutes to do that anyway. Cheers!
Gm piss poor engineering again
I solved all my problems with washing ! All fi ve of my rides in side or out WP car covers
Baby bath time!! Awesome product for sure.
Attention to detail nicely done. 👍 I also use a leaf blower on my Mercedes E400 get most of the water off. Then gently wipe the vehicle down. Never had any issues no scratches nothing.
That’s EXACTLY a what I do. Blow off most the water. Then wipe with a micro fiber drying towel. End with blowing cracks and crevices and wiping combo to finish the job.
Mercedes??????? 🤮
10:20 I would just stand in my garage and constantly just stare at that engine bay. Looks so awesome man.
Thanks so much!
Great product!! Definitely a necessity for you.
You should put painter's tape all over the outer rim of your air blower so that if you accidentally bump your car with it, it doesn't hurt the paint.
Good tip! Most of my car has XPEL paint protection on it so it should be protected in the event. But great tip for others to use. Thanks!
My daughter has a C8 and she asked my to wax the car. I found out the hard way what a pain in the rear end to clean. I washed, clayed and waxed her car and I spent an hour just detailing the engine.
I am going to tell her to get this product to block the vents.
I like the blanket idea; however, she takes her car to a touch less carwash and I am pretty sure putting a blanket on a hot V8 engine is not a good idea.
PS I use a leaf blower when I detail my car BMW M5 comp; the blower will get 95% of the water off the car and blow the water out of nooks such side view mirrors and where panels connects.
Thanks for posting!
Thank you! I really appreciate the feedback and comment!
Steve
Happy memorial day
I want to personally thank you for your service to our country. Very much appreciated
Have a great day.
Thank you. I appreciate it.
Nice. Thanks for the tips. Love your car/mods too
Thanks Pete!
Great video and great product! Love that engine bay! Cheers my friend
Thanks Great White!!!
Great tip. I NEVER drive my C8 in the rain and since I live in WA it doesn't get a lot of mileage. :-) One thing I don't do is use a high pressure spray. I do my washing with a microfibre mitt by hand and a fine spray rinse with minimal water flow taking care around the frunk/engine lids. I have had to wipe away some water so I will start using the blanket cover. The blocks are $130 so I will have to give that some thought. Again, some great tips.
Thanks for the great reply!
Great video , can we all just send our c8 Vettes to your house to get washed lol 😆
LOL Right?!
$129 !!! Are they nuts! I know there is a “corvette tax” but this is ridiculous.
I definitely feel you on that one!
Car looks great and that engine bay is a pretty sweet setup! I’m sure the ceramic coating really helps the ease of detailing too. Informative video, thanks
Thanks Scott for watching!
Missed a sp….
😂 Looks good as always!
LOL!
Steve
Happy 4th of July to you and your family
Thank you again for your service
Thank you Bill! Happy 4th to you and your family.
If you want to keep water off your engine, including that that comes in from around the camera, install Speedway Composites water diverters. They even catch the rain when you drive. Saves time too.
Thanks gonna look at that right now!
Please let me know your thoughts!
Thank you for the video! Going to order mine now 😅! Definitely going to keep something in the car just incase I get caught in the rain.
Aweosme. Thanks!
Man! This was PERFECT! Ordered mine and thanks for the video!
Awesome! Thanks for the comment. I appreciate it.
Happy birthday 🎂🎉🎁🎊🎈
Steve
Thanks Bill!!!
Great DIY video, my engine bay has polish aluminum so I am really interested in this product. Thanks Steve!
Great presentation my man great looking car great idea for the engine blocks all-around great job and you're right don't listen what people say on the social media most of them probably don't even own a Corvette or a nice car. Do your thing your c8 is shining like new money great engine bay as well with the carbon fiber 👍💪😎🇺🇲 that's awesome you're representing American muscle
Absolutely one of the best comments on all of my videos. Thank you!
Really good and informative video, thank you sharing your engine bay looks amazing
Keep it coming Steve
Thanks Bill!
AMEN TO THAT DUDE NO RAIN NO WATER SPOTS !!!!
Thank you for the great comment!
Great video. Beautiful car! The first thing I noticed, that's an awesome camera.
Damn. You went full on with the carbon fiber treatment in the engine bay.
@@chrisbernacchia7895 Yes! About $4000 worth
Love ur passion. Congrats on the C8. I want one so bad but right now it’s just not in the cards for me.
Thank you… I didn’t get one until I was 52. You definitely have time.
Great meeting you today!! time for some more feature length content and im down to shoot it!
Yes! Definitely connect on Vette Syndicate
@@ProtectiveDadPranks yessir!!
Curious, when do you think you will post the video on the Z06 Carbon Fiber Steering wheel? Been watching since you posted that stellar review.
LOL. Funny part is I’ve been waiting for my last Carbon Fiber interior piece to arrive before finishing the video. That piece arrives today. So probably next week sometime. Thanks for watching.
@@ProtectiveDadPranks Looking forward to it! Purchased mine just two days before you posted your review. How long did it take to get yours?
@@danielschulz5795 - it took 6-weeks from the time I ordered it until it arrived. And it was totally worth it. I have the heat option and it’s far better than OEM heat!
@@ProtectiveDadPranks Looking forward to receiving mine and looking forward to your install video! Thanks!
Still waiting for mine. Hoping to get it in the next two weeks. How did your installation go. Still watching for your video post.
Very informative video, sir. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for taking the time to watch.
I’ll be honest I like everything corvette but that bay is especially impressive.
Thanks for the great comment. It’s very much appreciated!
I just use the painters tape. It seems to work well for me. Regarding the blower. I have a Master Blaster which I really like. There’s virtually no chance of damaging the car with hard plastic from a traditional leaf blower. The one idea I am going to use is covering the engine with a blanket. Cheers!
Fantastic. I use a Master Blaster after the big water is off. Blanket sure helps! Enjoy the C8!
I don't have the blocks - I just put a towel under there, and when I was done washing - the towel caught most of the water. I just gave the engine bay and carbon fiber a quick wipe down once I was finished - and it was fine. I also don't blast the pressure washer directly into the vents... lol
Thank you very informative presentation.
Thanks for watching!
Makes me strongly consider a convertible hardtop
That will be my next one.
We have had world class show cars for 40+ years, and believe me I know how to clean and detail a car. I have found that most people will never spend the time to do much of anything correctly, washing a car is only about getting the car as clean as possible and nothing more. The best way to keep your car clean is to never let it get dirty to start with. Keep it indoors and covered as much as possible, out of the rain and dusty areas. We clean our cars every time we drive them, both before and after, and some of the cars also have detailed undercarriages. Spend a week cleaning the underside of your car and you will do everything you can to never do it again. We are now hunting for a nice used C8, LT3, CHT, front lift, mag ride, Z51 and have noticed that the prices have started to fall going into winter. Some dealerships have used C8s sitting around for months yet won't deal on pricing, seems a bit crazy. I have a question, if looking for a used C8, what year would be best and why?
@@BulletSpoung - Great post. I agree. For me it’s a 2023. And I’d definitely get a HTC. Wish I would have done that.
Very informative video....THANKS! When will the silicone version be available?
Hopefully soon. I’ll do an updated version and see if I need the blanket anymore.
@@ProtectiveDadPranks Great! Looking forward to it.
If you don't use a power washer and use a hose sprayer and direct the spray away from the vents you will get very little water in the engine bay.
@@Bogie0315 it will if you leave the holes open. Some people put towels over the wholes to try and mitigate the water going in.
@@ProtectiveDadPranks
OK good idea I will try it.
YO brother Steve, like I said on the LIVE, makes no sense without wearing the Syndicate Thong! C’mon your killin me 😎
LOL your cracking me up!
@@ProtectiveDadPranks

See you At Carlisle! 😎
@@Bruno-mz3cj Definitely!
Honestly, a pretty ingenious product. I would buy them if I had a C8.
You will soon 😉
@@ProtectiveDadPranks With the Biden economy I’m not doing crap except for going broke. And I’m not kidding.
@@DadsGarageDIY - Got that right. The imbecile screwed this country up in less than 2-years!
I use the orange painters tape. Has a bit more bite than the blue, it does not lift at all & it reduces the water getting in even better👍
Thanks for the tip. Definitely useful and I’ll try that next time I wash my car. Thank you.
I’m just confused as to why you want to keep it dry when it was designed that way
Have you seen my engine bay? The carbon fiber cost over $4000. I don’t feel like cleaning it all the time. That’s why.
Air blower is a must, Gets behind cracks and mirrors and most drip zones
Definitely! Are use my leaf blower for the big parts and then use my master blaster to get the fine in tuned areas.
Good job !
What wheel size and offset did you go with? The wheels look perfect
I went with the stock size. And they are Vossen HF-5. I’m not sure on the offset specs. But I know all that info is on their website. I agree the offset is perfect. And they make the stance look great from behind.
@@ProtectiveDadPranks Thank you!
Unreal looking car. You do know they have the carbon fiber for around the rear window?
Yes… I’m limiting all my carbon fiber to interior pieces. ✌🏼
@@ProtectiveDadPranks Only until i throw some carbon fiber barrel wheels on that bad boy🤣AND GOLD CHROME SPOKES.
@@thiosemicarbizidebenzoylal2921 LOL
Am confused clarification please? Is there anything wrong with rain or when your c8 gets washed?
How about an audi r8 or lambo do they have same issues, just curious as am interested in c8
Nothing wrong with it’s cleaning up the engine bay that’s the issue. Some people like myself like a very detailed engine bay. Letting water in messes it up.
Does this work when I drive in the rain also? 😂 I always watch the forecast and keep all that gear handy.
I wouldn’t use it while driving.
Happy Veterans Day Steve
sorry I didn’t get to you sooner
Thank you for your service
Thank you Bill… Much appreciated!
Looks like it worked pretty good great job
Thanks for watching!
As someone who just bought his first c8, what a PITA just to wash your car. 😅 this is wild!
@@badass1g - yeah exactly
I just bought my C8 Corvette and wondered about the vents getting water on the engine but I don't think I will ever go through all that to wash my Vette. I think I would simply wash and blow the water off my engine when I am done. Engine looks great though.
@@JohnWalker-z3g yeah I do that when I actually wash the engine. But it’s a little time consuming for me in regards to all the carbon fiber.
I notice the rear view camera, is it placed inside the engine on the rear window? Question 1, what brand name is your camera and do you recommended it for the C8? Question 2, Are your front and rear cams hard wired, if so what/where area therefore fuses did you plug into? or are you using the USB under the glove box? Wouldreally appreciate your information, it seems my current installer isn't sure where to hard wire the dash cams. I am lending towards the USB under the glove box. I have a 2023 C8 2LT Stingray. Thank you
You must have meant to comment on another one of my videos. The cameras are part of the car. My radar detector is hard wired to the mirror watch that video. For my proclip that holds my phone charged. I use the usb-c adapter my glove box.
Thanks Steve. U did a good job. Can you come over and wash mine? Lol
LOL!
Im never doing all that cuz u just convinced me to get the Convert.
Ible
Yep. My next one will be a convertible.
Great video, Steve!
Thank you!
I use the furniture blanket all by itself. Prevents 90% of water issue in engine.
I would agree. That’s the blanket I use. These definitely fill in the huge holes.
Thanks
Just a water resistant blanket is really needed in the compartment with hatch clesed
Now that’s a great idea.
If you strategically place a blanket in the engine bay, you'll illiminate water leakage....Save your money.
That’s what I do. I put a blanket over the engine bay
is this issue simply with a coupe ? does the convertible have this issue water gets inside ?
I have a 2024 2LT HTC .
I never checked if the water got inside the engine
100% Coupe
Nice job Bro.
Thank you!
do you prefer c8 over c7z?
C8 💯
bro! why dont you use a waterproof sheet?
@@garymartz - it doesn’t work. Part of keeping the engine dry is not just the engine itself but the outer areas, including the hatch.
@ thanks for letting me know. 👍
The product seems pretty effective. I intentionally wash my engine bay 75% of the time when I wash my C8. I dry entire car with a powerful electric leaf blower and I have zero water spots on exterior or engine bay.
Awesome!!!
Thank you!
If you are taping it, you don't need any vent blocks. That's how I do it and it works fine. If you are careful with the pressure wash, you don't even need to tape it. 🤷♂️
I tried that before. I couldn’t get it to work as well. I’m looking forward tonight the new version that is one long piece and silicone.
I just use a beach towel to cover vents.
I tried that but still had lots of water go through. But anything is better than leaving them wide open that’s for sure.
How about some kind of shrink wrap, cut out the whole section, hit it with a heat gun, once you perfect this technique, you might even be able to reuse that, or just resin it so it’s reuseable
Thank you that’s actually pretty good idea!
I made some out of 3/16 Styrofoam and the back glass I used a pool noodle that I cut and shaped. $20
From my experience washing my C8, the best piece of advice is spraying from above. That technique by itself makes a huge difference in keeping water/soap out of the engine compartment. Personally, the little water ingress I get is not a big deal for me as I wipe down the engine bay at the end of the wash (you really have to at least wipe down the inside of the hatch). That said, I have standard engine bay dressing, if I had all that carbon fiber, I might take a different view. I do like that foam strip for the back window, this is the hardest part to dry and where I get most of the water ingress.
Thanks Hank for the great comment!
The c8 dry blocks are a great product. Its what you dont see that makes a big difference. Wait until you pull a belly pan off and see all the calcium and corrosion from the water that goes down into the engine bay. During the procharger install on our c8 we see the results and ordered our set.
Thanks for sharing. Hope this helps other C8 Corvette owners.
just get a roll of boat wrap and case of silicon and start on it LOL
LOL 😂
What if you driving on interstate and it rains. You screwed??
I watch the weather app big time! Anyone knows me, knows I don’t take my car out when there’s any chance of rain.
IMHO Unless it is a downpour the wind will blow oof most of the water and the engine heat will evaporate light rain. I don't drive except sunny days as I live in the WA where it rains a lot.
Where is the original video where you scared your daughters former BF?
It’s under shorts. UA-cam moved it when they started making shorts 🤦🏽♂️
LmAO.... coupe.... look ma.. I can see my engine.... mom - congratulations son. Now go clean it.
Can’t believe those gaps in the mesh. Trade it!
Truth be told I’m shocked at some of the things GM passes. My last 2 Corvettes had many screws that were just finger tight.
@@ProtectiveDadPranks Like most car companies run by a bunch of jack wagons.
@@DadsGarageDIY LOL totally!
I just do waterless washes on my car since it never really gets dirty.
@@chrisbernacchia7895 that’s a great idea too
why the rear window??
I’d throw a tarp down over the engine and just not spray a ton of water on the rear hatch area and call it a day.
@@badass1g I actually tried that. It rolled off the engine into the bay on removal.
Just get the C8 Convertible, nuff said
@@MrSolara7 - I like seeing the engine. nuff said
Another reason to get the convertible so I could not see the engine.
My next one will be a HTC. Although I’ll have the see through engine cover.
Nice car. I thought about getting a C8. I think I'll get the C7 Z06 now. I like the look better anyway.
Cool. Just buy a Corvette. ANY Corvette ✌🏼
Doing all of that everytime you wash your car to each it's own just to much for me one of the reasons why I'm going with the convertible
I like the engine showing… obviously. But the HTC is a fantastic option as well.
The only time you see the engine is when you're not driving and GM is coming out with the clear engine cover for the HTC definitely a plus
@@fredholland5723 - You see it far more. And the GM engine cover hole is small. It doesn’t show the whole engine. When you’re parked people look at it all the time. Especially mine with the carbon. But get your own corvette and see what works out for you. There are lots of corvettes and lots more opinions…
I should have my c8 by at least June according to the dealership and I'm really excited but far as Corvettes this will be the 5th one and maybe the last one
@@fredholland5723 - mine took 5-weeks from ordering to parked in my driveway! Congrats. You’re gonna love it!

Just buy an HTC like I did.😂
Don’t get caught in rain
LOL my cars never see a drop of rain.
SOLUTION: Buy an HTC.
That will be my next one for sure!
@@ProtectiveDadPrankscan you tell me what that cold air intake does for sound & performance? It looks awesome, but is it worth it?
Yeah, I sold my 2020 coupe to an 80 year old dude, and then bought a 21 htc. Never looked back. Having that power roof up here in the northeast is a game changer.
@@adamnarbeaux5898 - I have a video on it on my channel. But my best friend Jason (Front Seat Driver) just put it in his HTC. (He has it on his channel). We talk about the sound and response on it as well. It definitely changes response time. I tried the attack blue filter before but it doesn’t do the same thing. If not this cold air intake I’d put anyone on it. I just feel the C8 Stingray needs one.
what do you do when it rains, i live in h-town , rains all the time, leave my 90,000 car in the freaking garage!!!!!!! no thanks
Most corvette owners keep their cars in the garage we don’t leave them outside.
Water doesn't hurt the engine. When you drive in the rain, water gets up in there. It does on EVERY car you have ever owned... you just didn't have a glass lid to see it...
This is a solution to a problem that doesn't really exist. Hell, my C8 lives in the driveway, sits out every day in the weather... Couldn't care less, its a car...
@@Daves_Man_Cave - nowhere has anybody said that water hurts the engine. It’s about keeping it clean and not have to spend all the extra time cleaning up the engine bay. Apparently you don’t care what your engine looks like. So you go do you. Most of us Corvette owners actually care what our car looks like. Go find somewhere else to bitch and moan. This product is made for people who are looking for a solution.
@@ProtectiveDadPranks Because most Corvette owners spend more time sitting at a car show or polishing it in the garage with a diaper, than spending time out driving it. When you wash it with that spray foam and stuff, spray and blast out the engine bay along with the rest of the car, then blow it out. Easy, and it gets rid of the normal crap that gets up in there when you drive the car...
When you get the car ceramic coating, toss them a few extra bucks to do the engine bay as well.
@@Daves_Man_Cave - and is their Corvette. So they can do whatever they like with it. Just because you think you’re better because you drive yours and they don’t. Doesn’t negate the fact of them appreciating the Corvette brand. Second, my car has full PPF, ceramic coating to include the engine bay. And I still need to use those blocks to make cleaning faster. Let me give you a epiphany moment. Since you think you are such the Corvette enthusiast. A real Corvette enthusiast doesn’t go after or say negative things about other Corvette owners That just makes you a fan boy. Know the difference.
@@ProtectiveDadPranks Actually, you got that backwards. Its the fanboy that won't allow any criticism of "their brand"... Its the literal defining characteristic. 🙂
So to use a wise man's words... Know the difference. ;-)
@@ProtectiveDadPranks And turn your hat around, you are an adult.
Well so much for me wanting to get one. I am busy guy. I will get an 8 series BMW instead...
Enjoy
Should have a rear hatch cover made up with expandable edge to tuck inside the lip edges, something like convertible tops boot on cars 😇
@@jamesmckenzie3433 Great idea!
I’m thinking about getting another C8: ERAY or THE UNOBTAINABLE ALLOCATION (But I’m staying on the list anyway) ZO6.
I’m going to keep my 2022 HTC!
5/16/2023 I sold my 2009 Immaculate Crystal Red Tintcoat C6 Z51 Coupe that had only 7,344 miles on it to Carvana. I got an offer of $34,882 for the 15 year old car. I took it ❤with the intention of using those funds towards the next C8. I’m told by my local dealership, I’m #1 on their ERAY LIST and #4 on their ZO6 List. I believe the dealership sold only 1 ZO6 so far.
Big decision will be to take an ERAY allocation or pass on it to wait for a ZO6 allocation?
Additionally, the $7,500 Question? Do I get a Coupe or HTC?
I got the 2022 HTC because I’m not a Rag Top Fan.
After seeing people washing their Coupes and the wet engine area, I was leaning even more towards the HTC. If I go for a Coupe in the future, I’m definitely in for getting “The Blocks” to minimize the water that finds its way into the Engine Compartment! There’s a saying: “Water always wins”. 😊
Then being able to see the fantastic engine is a reason many choose the Coupe, but for me, I now enjoy the C8 so much that it is a hard top and is easy to open and close the top. It was a PITA to take the Targa Top Off and then stow it away. I was always concerned about messing up the paint.
How about you Steve?
What is your plan?
Ultimately the ZO6 if you get an allocation?
Love your Garage and your C8!
IT LOOKS LIKE YOU HAD A LOT OF WATER SITTING ON YOUR CAR AFTER WASHING? I THOUGHT CERAMIC COATINGS MAKES THE WATER RUN OFF THE CAR?
Then you don’t know the first thing about ceramic coatings. It’s meant to bead up and run off with at driving speeds or blowers.
You should be doing a chamois wipe down with a fresh micro fibre cloth to get excess water after a wash job. Ceramic coatings are a MUST DO to protect the paint. I coat mine every 6 months. It has a showroom look even after 3 years (2020 3LT Coupe).
