Another thing she could have touched on is how the convertible looks so sexy with those two pillars and small window in contrast to the coupe that has that huge hatchback window we have seen in Corvettes before.
I just picked up my new C8 Corvette HTC this week. I originally ordered the 2023 2LT HTC. My order was moved up to a 2024 HTC. Really enjoying the C8 experience.
The only advantage to the coupe in my opinion is being able to see the engine. At my age, I’ve seen enough engines and cleaned enough engines that I would not forego all of the advantages of the HTC for a coupe.
@@jamesmueller9819 On the coupe you can see the engine in the rear there’s also vents to the sides. What happens when it rains does the rain going into those vents and pool in the engine bay?
I bought the convertible after much debate with myself. I came up with this: The hard top is a daily driver and the convertible is just a toy. I'm so glad that I did. I love the 'push of a button' open and close.
So. I have tried to get more folks to try this even contacted GM on this. Get a glass or tile suction cup to remove the targa top. I had one for my '13 coupe. It made removing and installing so much easier and safer. I bought mine at a specialty tile shop, I even thought about putting the vette logo on it. I would place the targa top puller in the center, lock both tabs and it was an easy lift and easy to control. A micro fiber cloth would easily take care of any ring mark.
I'm totally not a convertible guy but I just love the Corvette convertible. It's great how it keeps its good looks with the roof down. I would prefer a C8 without a spoiler though. Makes the body look so much sleeker.
It does look good, I agree. Now, I’m a big fan of the high wing but I know there’s quite a few out there that like the Non Z51 look. Keeping the car sleek is always a good option.
The convertible isn't any more open than the hardtop. It's like on my C4 Corvette Coupe with the top stowed in back. The convertible advantages are more space in trunk and the top goes down automatically. The convertible in my opinion isn't a convertible. They both are just missing the mid roof section. I'll stick with my2003 C5 convertible with the ragtop. I can look back without any obstructions.@@FrontSeatDriver
I’ve owned 8 Corvettes and this HTC C8 is the only convertible Corvette I would own. Takes the car to a different level and it looks way more exotic than the coup. Plus it’s nice to have the little back window that can lower with the top up. For me I would take a lower interior option to get the HTC.
I live in Vegas and I am looking at purchasing a c8 this year. The dealerships here really do not want to work with you unless you are willing to spend $30,000 over sticker. Maybe the guys and girls at corvette world will be willing to take care of me and sell a car!! Great video
On the soft close you don’t need to push it down and touch the paint. There’s a handle inside. You grip it and pull down to close. It will latch automatically by itself. Also that grey one in the background looks sick!
Agreed. On my car I generally push down with my shirt or pull it down hard enough to catch. Hypersonic Gray if I remember correctly. Definitely one that I liked way more than I expected the first time I saw it in person.
Thanks, Jake and I fully agree. I had a 2014 Lamborghini Gallardo and the nacelles on here remind me of the Lambo. Definitely does have a more exotic look. I’m planning on doing HTC when I get my C8. Hopefully this coming year.

I'll take the 1LT HTC over 2LT coupe. Same price but HTC looks way more exotic and has the rear camera mirror standard (main 2lt option IMO). HTC has the option to make the roof and nacells black; stunning on torch red or orange😍😍😍. Some claim much less wind noise when the roof is down and no injection ticking noise when its up.
Yes!! I love the HTC as well. I’d definitely paint roof and nacelles carbon flash black. I agree that it looks way more exotic. So glad GM came out with the HTC. I’ve never been a big fan of soft top convertibles.
Great Vlog Jason. Nice to present the comparison and functionality to those not familiar with the operation on the HTC. I’m thinking someone got a bad grade or didn’t get enough playing time. The issues of the frosted window and damage to the top by someone trying to break into the car or jealously slashing it turned me against soft tops. HTC looks awesome BUT be warned if you plan to keep one for a long time that you will probably pay for it twice. Once when you first buy it ( $7500 + ) and then get ready to pay an outrageous amount for repairs when something goes wrong when something that complex is out of warranty.
Yes, I would agree. I’m absolutely doing the HTC but likely won’t keep it for more than a couple years. If I’m able to get a Z06 it will be gone most likely.
All the automation with the HTC is mind-boggling, but I have to ask; What would happen, although the odds are almost non-existent that it would, but would happen if in the middle of putting top or down there was a complete failure not allowing the automation to complete its cycle? Like on previous generations, if you got locked out your car, the fob had key that you'd use to open the trunk lid and then there was cable you could pull to pop open the door. Does the C8 have some type of cable to release all the gearing so one, if not two people could close or raise the top? I know, I know. stupid question, but someone had to ask. It's things like this that keep me up at night. 🤣 Save the Wave🙋♂
One of my other vehicles is a SL65 Mercedes, if you get a chance watch how there hard top convertibles work. Very much the same so this tech has been around for a while.
We prefer to have a trunk and a frunk whenever we are out in our HTC since the top is always down unless it’s raining. Another positive is the only engine noise is from the exhaust since our back window can be down with the top up or down. I also would rather be driving than cleaning 2 rear windows and an engine compartment
I finally have a C8 Convertible because I hate the Soft Top! I’ve purchased cars for 50 years (probably 25-30 cars) and never wanted a Soft Top vehicle! Do you have any idea how many people have purchased a 2020 to 2023 C8 Convertible because there now is an available “Hard Top”? Percentage Wise? And/or Number Wise?
I don’t know how many but I know there are at least 2. You and me!!! I wasn’t a fan of soft top roofs either but once they came out with the HTC I knew that was going to be my choice.
You forgot to mention the rear window goes down on the HTC whether the roof is up or down, and when you put the back window down with the roof up, it prevents all that waffling whipping noise inside the vehicle
@@FrontSeatDriver 2LT, GT2 Seats, Jet Black; other options: Z51, Mag Ride, Front Lift, Carbon Flash Painted Mirrors and Spoiler, Battery Protection Package, Tow Hook, Contoured “Jake” Liner Package, Stock Wheels (I also have a 2009 C6 Crystal Red Tintcoat, Z51, 2LT Coupe, 7,277 miles; I liked the car and convinced my wife into keeping it. She is still talking about the possibility of selling it, but only if there is another “desirable replacement”: C8 ZO6 or What ?)
Yeah. The roof isn’t too heavy. Pretty sure she’d be okay to do it. The funny thing is, it wasn’t planned to have Robert do the “heavy lifting.” Lol. Just worked out that way.
After watching this video I still can’t decide which one is better. The coupe cost less and can upgrade to 2LT for the price of a basic HTC 1LT and the coupe you still can remove the roof top also don’t have to worry about any mechanical failure for the roof top. Also like the lady said you can see the engine and dress it up. Now the HTC cost more money and eventually is going to cost money for mechanical roof top repairs and you can’t see the engine. People comment here the HTC looks more exotic, to me they both look exotic and especially more with the coupe that you’re able to see the engine and that’s what draws attention not the HTC nacelles. I’m leaning towards the coupe.
I don’t think you can go wrong with the coupe. Better bang for the buck. I chose the HTC myself and I will do it again on my next Vette. Just my personal preference.
C8 red mist In your opinion which rims would look nicer? The 19" front/20" rear 5-open-spoke Bright Silver-painted aluminum wheels that’s standard or the 19" front/20" rear 20-spoke Gloss Black forged aluminum wheels that cost $995?
I personally like the forged wheel design best and it’s a better rim being that it’s forged. I would go with that set if you’re not going to do after market wheels later on.
Is there any head room difference? I want a Z06, but I have never sat in any C8. From the coupe demo, I didn't realize the head room was that bad. I'm 6'4".

C8 is my dream car, I was wondering, is it better to get it straight from the dealer..? Or to buy one from an online reseller for a lot lower than the price (ex. 5000-9000 miles)
I got mine from a dealership that sold it to me for MSRP. The prices are going down now. With that being said I would rather find a dealership that sells vette's for MSRP. So you can get it the way you want it. There is nothing like having everything you want instead of being pissed because you didn't. Trust me it's worth it ordering it.
Yeah, a lot of people have different opinionated interests in what they like or depending on what they would buy if they had the money, and I have also heard it said, that sometimes a certain option is more of a needed desire than practical usage, that's what brought me back to the zo6 Corvette, instead of considering the Lexus LS 500 2 door coop, poor gas mileage and no useable back seat, trunk space is next to none as well, it canceled it's self out, the zo6 Corvette put itself back on the buyer's list of like say a regular small car all because of the mechanical hardtop thus saving the trunk space,
I have convertible, love it, but if you ever want to do a twin turbo, get a coupe. Everyone says they're working on a TT for convertible, but I'm beginning to think they're FOS.
I own one with the clear roof panel and you can’t notice a difference in heat. It is already very tinted and it’s great because it really brightens the interior while inside. It looks pure black from the outside.
Few questions , 1, ...I put a deposit down on a 2022 C8 back in Sept 2021 , Just contacted the dealer he saying I'm bout 2 months away from picking my options then 8 weeks from there he did tell me however it will be a 2023 which is fine accept the price he said is $65, 595 for the base 1LT which he had told me last Sept the base was $62,500 Does that sound ethical ? I put my deposit down for the 2022 its not my fault I got pushed back to 2023 and am waiting this long , feels like their thanking me for my patience by jacking the me up in price , Really messed up
2..... is there a problem with washing he C8 and rain getting in the engine ? I'm hearing alot of C8 owners are complaining about this ? 3,... Are there any extra options, colors or anything diffrent in the 2023 ? Was hoping for a metallic purple Thanks Derek
Is there a difference in head room between the regular targa top and the convertible when the tops are on? I test drove a 1lt convertible recently but have yet to sit in a coupe. Just wondering as I'm 6'0 would prefer a tab bit more head room.
@@FrontSeatDriver wow, I didn't think there was much headroom in the car I drove at all and you tell me that's the car with MORE headroom? Idk, maybe I'm just used to how much headroom a Porsche has in comparison.
Gotta fix the HTC. Instead of the back goin up it should all just slide in 2 or 3 parts like how the front does. If the top is dirty then ur just covering a dirty top. Whole thing should just slide back and i5s better when ur on the road as well
Can anyone speak to the headroom clearance between the two models? I’m 6’1 and really want a non-convertible. Is there enough room or should I go with the convertible?
It would make more since to remotely put the top up than down. Say your out with your local car club eating somewhere and it starts to rain. You could simply reach in your pocket and put the top up.
@@dystopian.. Honestly, I will never go back to the coupe. My car is ceramic coated so I just use my blower to get the water out of the area. Plus I don’t drive in the rain.
One point to make when putting the top back on is the flip the sun visors down preventing the mirror cover from eventually snapping off.

I had grocery store paper bags full of hot wheels as a kid. Good times!
That’s actually a really good question, Peter. I don’t know. I’ll ask next time I’m there.
How have you been?
Thanks Jason. FWIW, my question was legit, although some might think otherwise. 🤣
@@petercarey6883 Nope. It’s actually a really good question. It’s something you’ll want to know if it ever happens!!
AHA, great minds think alike! Thanks again my friend. 🙏
One of my other vehicles is a SL65 Mercedes, if you get a chance watch how there hard top convertibles work. Very much the same so this tech has been around for a while.
EXCELLENT video thanks everyone this convertible top its similar to my 350z top
Thanks for watching. 🙏
We prefer to have a trunk and a frunk whenever we are out in our HTC since the top is always down unless it’s raining. Another positive is the only engine noise is from the exhaust since our back window can be down with the top up or down. I also would rather be driving than cleaning 2 rear windows and an engine compartment
Agreed. My C8 came in since this video and I did HTC also.
HTC all day!
Yup
Best of both worlds!
I ended up ordering a HTC. I absolutely love it! No desire to go back to a coupe.
😍 gorgeous!!! The car is nice too!
🤣😁
What about the advantages and disadvantages washing the HTC vs the coupe?
I prefer to wash the HTC.
I love the Red Mist HTC, except for the black wheels, it’s very much like my 2022 HTC!
A Torch Red HTC would have been my second color selections.
I really like the Red Mist. What color interior did you go with?
@@FrontSeatDriver 2LT, GT2 Seats, Jet Black; other options: Z51, Mag Ride, Front Lift, Carbon Flash Painted Mirrors and Spoiler, Battery Protection Package, Tow Hook, Contoured “Jake” Liner Package, Stock Wheels
(I also have a 2009 C6 Crystal Red Tintcoat, Z51, 2LT Coupe, 7,277 miles; I liked the car and convinced my wife into keeping it. She is still talking about the possibility of selling it, but only if there is another “desirable replacement”: C8 ZO6 or What ?)
As a sales pitch, could the young lady lift that targa roof ?
Sales wise , would have been interesting to switch the two (models) and actors .
Yeah. The roof isn’t too heavy. Pretty sure she’d be okay to do it.
The funny thing is, it wasn’t planned to have Robert do the “heavy lifting.” Lol. Just worked out that way.
👍
I'm working on getting mines 🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁❤️🔥👑💪🏿👏🏿👏🏿

Nice video , please share a video comparing z 06 with C 08
Great video! Beautiful color! Thinking about installing Victor racings smart active wing for even more drag control. Any experiences?
That roof is a lot more narrow than the C7's. Looks a lot easier to handle.
Yeah. It’s not too big.
Excellent video. Appreciation.
Thank you.
Red on red convertible was nasty, never let the dealership pick colors or options…
First Vette I would go with the Vert.
Same here.
My dream car.
Coupe or convertible?
C8 red mist In your opinion which rims would look nicer? The 19" front/20" rear 5-open-spoke Bright Silver-painted aluminum wheels that’s standard or the 19" front/20" rear 20-spoke Gloss Black forged aluminum wheels that cost $995?
I personally like the forged wheel design best and it’s a better rim being that it’s forged. I would go with that set if you’re not going to do after market wheels later on.
Great informative video!
What would be the weight difference between the convertible and the coupe?
Thanks! I believe it’s about 100 lbs more for the convertible.
thank you so much for sharing , can this car drive in snow? i live in toronto
You probably want to get the E-Ray. It’s all wheel drive. Much better for snow.
Rob, is sooooo cool 👍🏾 Great work FDR !!!!!!!
Is there any head room difference? I want a Z06, but I have never sat in any C8. From the coupe demo, I didn't realize the head room was that bad. I'm 6'4".
I believe about an inch more on the HTC.
The red color on the htc is beautiful whats the name of that color ?
That’s Red Mist.
hard top for sure! game changer! it adds more of that super car look and feel.
I completely agree.

I love Corvette 🔥🔥🔥
Me too. 😄
Great video! Thanks for sharing.
Yes sir. Thank you. 🙏
C8 is my dream car, I was wondering, is it better to get it straight from the dealer..? Or to buy one from an online reseller for a lot lower than the price (ex. 5000-9000 miles)
If you can get one lower used then I would do used. Especially with a warranty.
So, how does one access the engine on the convertible?? also does the rear glass go all the way down?
No. The glass does not go all the way down.
There’s a cover that has to be removed to access the engine bay on the HTC. I believe it has 18 screws.
Jason what do you think of the fairly new mod that allows fob use up and down?
I’m unaware of it. Who makes it? I’d love to have that option.
Brink of Speed Mike has installed that so fob allows up and down with fob.
Chicago isn’t windy. It’s called the Windy City because the residents are bigmouth/windy people.
😂😂😂
Actually the term Windy City became used because of the loud mouth politicians. And the current mayor reinforces this
Yeah, a lot of people have different opinionated interests in what they like or depending on what they would buy if they had the money, and I have also heard it said, that sometimes a certain option is more of a needed desire than practical usage, that's what brought me back to the zo6 Corvette, instead of considering the Lexus LS 500 2 door coop, poor gas mileage and no useable back seat, trunk space is next to none as well, it canceled it's self out, the zo6 Corvette put itself back on the buyer's list of like say a regular small car all because of the mechanical hardtop thus saving the trunk space,
I really like the Lexus but I’m definitely a Corvette guy and for sure a HTC guy. Are you high up on a Z06 list?
I have convertible, love it, but if you ever want to do a twin turbo, get a coupe. Everyone says they're working on a TT for convertible, but I'm beginning to think they're FOS.
Probably. My C8 salesman’s personal C8 is at Late Model Racecraft in Houston getting a TT on it right now. Should be 1500 HP when done.
I was like, "Nooooooo!" when she slammed the trunks shut...I thought they were soft close 🤔
They are soft close. I see a lot of people still push them down hard. My friend that keeps his clean enough to eat off and has major OCD does it too.
9:38 the roof came down unevenly 😆 and please pause at 9:40 to have a look through and don’t assume it’s the angle of the camera because it’s not!….
very informative video. just one question. if i get the glass roof, will the sun bake the interior? thanks
It will definitely be hotter inside. I think You could always go to a tint shop. They make a clear film that significantly reduces heat.
I own one with the clear roof panel and you can’t notice a difference in heat. It is already very tinted and it’s great because it really brightens the interior while inside. It looks pure black from the outside.
Few questions ,
1, ...I put a deposit down on a 2022 C8 back in Sept 2021 , Just contacted the dealer he saying I'm bout 2 months away from picking my options then 8 weeks from there he did tell me however it will be a 2023 which is fine accept the price he said is $65, 595 for the base 1LT which he had told me last Sept the base was $62,500 Does that sound ethical ? I put my deposit down for the 2022 its not my fault I got pushed back to 2023 and am waiting this long , feels like their thanking me for my patience by jacking the me up in price , Really messed up
2..... is there a problem with washing he C8 and rain getting in the engine ?
I'm hearing alot of C8 owners are complaining about this ?
3,... Are there any extra options, colors or anything diffrent in the 2023 ? Was hoping for a metallic purple
Thanks Derek
When I wash my convertible Ferrari I actually use a plastic shower curtain to cover the engine
@@realasscracka Yea that what I was thinking either a couple huge beach towels or like you say a plastic shower curtain maybe even better
Very well done video, thanks!
Thank you JT.
Nice car
Is there a difference in head room between the regular targa top and the convertible when the tops are on? I test drove a 1lt convertible recently but have yet to sit in a coupe. Just wondering as I'm 6'0 would prefer a tab bit more head room.
There’s a little more head room in the HTC.
@@FrontSeatDriver wow, I didn't think there was much headroom in the car I drove at all and you tell me that's the car with MORE headroom? Idk, maybe I'm just used to how much headroom a Porsche has in comparison.
@@michaelthompson4178 Yeah, perhaps. I haven’t driven a Porsche before so I have no personal experience for comparison.
Is there any difference in head space between the coupe and the HTC ?
Yes. There’s a little more headroom with the HTC.
There is about 1 1/2 inches more headroom with the HTC as it does not have the cross member at the rear of the removable top.
Gotta fix the HTC. Instead of the back goin up it should all just slide in 2 or 3 parts like how the front does. If the top is dirty then ur just covering a dirty top. Whole thing should just slide back and i5s better when ur on the road as well
I chose the 2023 HTC but mine didn’t come with the darn front lift 😫
Yeah, I did the htc also but no front lift. I will do that next time.
Gotta step up to the 3LT bro!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@darknes7800 that’s the plan with the Z06 when I finally get it. Number 2 but the dealer only gets like 2 per year.
Really nice 👍🏽
I would challenge engineer’s to incorporate a transparent deck lid plus redesign the top so we be engine is still visible when in convertible mode
GM did not design the retractable roof. I cannot recall any HTC’s that allow the engine to be seen.
They never mention about the engine sound in the convertible with the rear window down and the top up.
True. That is an awesome feature and another reason why I ordered the HTC.
Very cool!
Thanks, Josh.
Which one has more headroom when the top's up?
HTC.
I like red exterior and brown interior
What happens if you accidentally let go of the button (raising or lowering top)?
Does it just stop mid motion?
it just stops in mid motion, a lot of people do it at car shows
Can anyone speak to the headroom clearance between the two models? I’m 6’1 and really want a non-convertible. Is there enough room or should I go with the convertible?
You’re probably okay at 6’1 but there’s a small bit of extra headroom on the convertible.
@@FrontSeatDriver I appreciate the feedback! Thank you
It would make more since to remotely put the top up than down. Say your out with your local car club eating somewhere and it starts to rain. You could simply reach in your pocket and put the top up.
I agree. Not sure what the reason is behind only being able to lower it.
Big con on both, the convertible the water pools behind the rear window. On the coupe water gets into the engine bay through the heat extractors.
That is true. The HTC definitely holds water near the back window. Annoying when I wash the car.
@@FrontSeatDriversounds like it’s worth every penny 😅
@@dystopian.. Honestly, I will never go back to the coupe. My car is ceramic coated so I just use my blower to get the water out of the area. Plus I don’t drive in the rain.
@@FrontSeatDriver again, sounds like money well spent.
