Hey man! I like your videos. Just my $0.02: When we're 85, we both know that we would rather have gotten the sports car than gotten an extra 15-20 grand!! 😂Don't sweat it. Yeah, you could save that money, but could you really enjoy it as much if you waited another 20 years? Go on any of the corvette forums, and you'll see dudes saying, "I like the car, but I can barely get in and out of it because of my bad knee! I'm going to trade it in for a Corolla." We don't want to work so hard, only to not enjoy the fruits of our labor. Clearly, you're a smart guy and prudent with your money. But as long as your basic needs are met, and you can still save 20% for retirement - spend your money how you like! Some people will buy expensive camera for their photography hobbies, and we buy cars. The car gives us an unforgettable experience though, so it's not just a thing. The point of money is not just to get more of it, but to afford us the things we desire. Can't take it with you when you're dead anyways! Besides, the C8 is cheap compared to Porsches and Lambos 😂Enjoy it brother!
That is what I would advise my own children. You earn to spend, spend on what brings you happiness without being reckless. Emergency fund, invest, live and enjoy. I have zero regrets losing this money on something I love.
Agreed, but I will say its just as much or even better than some luxury brands out there. Someone who buys a Mercedes GLE or a Tesla Plaid or a high sticker BMW will probably lose more in Depreciation. Even some Porsche models depreciate like a tank like the cayenne, tycan etc. My goal is to get into a Early Gen 991 GT3 as that is a car I can own enjoy and get out of while losing the least amount of money.
Note for everybody on car insurance make sure you go with the company that actually pays their claims and doesn’t fight their clients. State Farm may be cheaper, but they also have the most attorneys, and they tend to fight their claims.
Here's the big thing to know. It's a car. It's a depreciating asset. It's not an investment. Dealers were charging significantly more than MSRP. This is not a vehicle that should really be your primary or only vehicle. These are great second, or third vehicles, weekend vehicles...etc. As to the depreciation, if you've bought this car for your own personal use, and plan to keep it for 5 years, no worries. Make sure you have at least 20% to put down on it at purchase. The depreciation curve will flatten out.
Agreed, I just get bored of cars quick so I cant help but continue losing money. I am thinking next should be a already depreciated car so that it lessens the hit!
I got a 2023 fully loaded with 2800k miles for 66k mint z51 and almost every option you can think of from a private one owner, a older gentleman who did take a bath on this for him but if you patient you can find a good deal. He babied the car but just couldn’t get in and out of it well so he just couldn’t drive it much… my insurance only went up 780 for the year but I do have two other cares. Seemed reasonable to me…
Good points. What bothers me even more is the fact that regardless of mileage. We have to do a transmission fluid change for $1500 or the warranty is void. Look into that. I have the 2024 2LT. But it’s a second car and the insurance (if you shop for Corvette insurance) is very cheap. keep the videos coming😀
I have been with one insurance provider for a long time. I try shopping around every year or so to get a cheaper rate but no one beats my current provider I wonder why even tho I got a ticket and next renewal was even cheaper when everyone else is seeing increased insurances. I hope I dont jinx myself now lol cuz I am planning to get another daily driver
From what I’m reading the transmission display is not accurate to the service needs of it. Confusing as they say this part is that of a super car . 🤷♂️
Love your investment take brother. I am investing at a much smaller scale but I always think "that $20k C5 is actually gonna cost me $30k based on my gains this year". Investment minded... at some point your bank roll becomes so big it doesn't matter anymore -- that's when I feel it will be the time for me to play with cars. Hopefully I get there!
Cars are nothing more than rolling appliances. You have something much more fun than a Corvette....a motorcycle. Steve McQueen said it best..."Driving a car is like watching a movie. Driving a motorcycle is like starring in that movie." BITCOIN is the future.
You speak my heart brother! Soo many people do not understand the joy a motorcycle brings vs any fast car. I do not ride my motorcycle on the streets anymore I do track days only. Nothing comes close to feeling as alive as on a motorcycle.
That last part is what caught my attention. I'm looking forward to my C8 turning into a Lamborghini! Will it happen suddenly, or does it slowly change? 🤔
Hahaha, Fingers crossed! Just keep watering it!! 😂 Jk I am hoping and striving for my small business grows as I have planned and then it the C8 will turn :P haha
Jay. Thanks for the video. It’s quite informative for people to consider all aspects before maybe getting over their head. My question is about the cool LED overhead lighting on your garage ceiling. What’s the brand please? Thanks again!
The goal was to help someone understand it’s not just the “monthly payment” you need to consider to see if you can afford a car. The lights are FERUERW brand on Amazon - runs about $70 for the 5 hexagon I have 2 of those. Even with dark walls it’s enough light to work on the cars and even film videos.
My issue is this. DCTs are great but costly transmission and one reason values drop because it costs a boatload to maintain compared to other transmissions. I believe a DCT belongs in a Z06, Huracan etc not standard C8. Also just looked up wholesale 58k with 8k miles on that now. There are 10k off the same model as yours now if you call around. Summer isnt going to change values because DCT problems are now hitting the forums and old time buyers are running back to C7s.
I'm in my 70's, but in excellent shape, so getting in & out of these cars is no problem for me. In 2018 decided to treat myself to a driver's car. Drove a couple of used Porsche's, but settled on a 2016 Stingray. It may have less prestige, but it cost a lot less, insurance is less, yet the car is fun to drive. Maintenance costs are cheaper as well. I've also taken a few driving courses, so I don't have any trouble keeping up with the more expensive cars at rallys. Ever try to have a Porsche, Lambo, Ferrari repaired in the middle of nowhere? There're tons of Chevy dealers across the country. Drive the car, enjoy it.
That's a great point, from what I have seen (on youtube) the exotic car rallies usually have a guy or two who travel with the rally who might be able to fix the cars on the go.
That is a great deal and shows that it's still possible to find some great deals, I just wanted to share my experience and that you should be prepared to spend more than what you think you will spend. Congratulations on your purchase
Yes I think its reasonable as well, and very much in line with other similar options like a bmw M car. I think this car does not depreciate as much as a Porsche Cayman would have. The C8 remains to be a best value sports car in my opinion!
When you get your Porsche or Lambo it will be the same thing all over again. That's the price you pay to own cars like this. Maybe keep it a bit longer.
Sorry brother but i tink problem you have is 2 and problem 1 is the way you talking is you just talking about the money and not other factors like you had a fun time with the car and enjoy the almost 1 year and the problem 2 is you are still poor and you need to get up more levels and get more rich and then when you buy your super car you don’t even think about the money you lose because you don’t even tink the way you think now. Wishing you luck
I never tried to claim to be rich or wealthy. I am a first generation immigrant who started here driving Uber/Lyft in 2018. Lastly, the video obviously was for information. Never said I regret it or that I wouldn’t suggest doing All I said was the cost should be considered before buying Appreciate your input though. I'm just trying to make people understand that the overall cost of ownership for high-performance cars can be a lot more than they might think. But yes agreed its worse with german cars and I think the vette is a superior value to other sport options
Local agent :) As I said I do bundle my insurance. I have been with the insurance company for over 5 years. I shop around every renewal but no one beats my current provider. So I get loyalty discounts, I get bundle discount, I get Autopay discount, Factors like area, garage attached or detached, weather you own or rent the house, crime rate accident rate, education, marital status employment history, credit score, your own background check and driving history etc... its a never ending list of variables when it comes to insurance premiums.
