  • DCC N-scale. Here is an update (Part 4) of the ongoing saga of the CTRR. Biggest change: I cut the wooden support that extended horizontally above the opening in front. It blocked a lot of the view, but since it supports the glass top, it has to be there (for safety) and it has to be strong. To make it narrower would weaken the wood, so the answer was to cut it off completely and replace it with a piece of steel. The bottom rail and panels on each side will remain, and the steel mounts to the top of the side panels. I used a 5/8" L-shaped angle steel bar which I cut, smoothed, painted camo green, and drilled for the mounting screw. I used a router to cut a 1/4" rabbet in the top of the wood side panels, so that the steel bar was recessed and no higher than the rest of the frame. Now the view is nearly unobstructed, even with the glass on it. More lights were added, but I have more to install. Improvements were made to the roadway, there is a new BNSF locomotive, and new rolling stock (on sale). I added a new switch and siding right in front for making up trains for departure. Thanks for your comments and likes.
