I presently use HS8's and 3 Years Earlier, Used The Eris E5's. I miss my eris. Had to change them as i shifted to a bigger room. HS8's are good but as i work for long hours, i feel Ear Fatigue With The Yamahas Which Was Not There With The Presonus Monitors. Also The Kick Frequencies(Thump) Lack In The Yamahas(As Per My Taste Of Mixing). Also, my mixes came out pretty well on the Presonus. I've decided to go back to presonus with Eris 8XT. Presonus is Just Love.. Excited To Receive Them Soon.
Hey man how are the E8XT's? I'm upgrading from E4.5's and struggling between choosing between the HS8 or E8 XT
yea the hs8 seem to saturate the treble a little bit that will cause fatigue.
@@rsvp9816 same with the hs5.. I would get fatigue almost immediately and tinnitus almost all the time... got the eris E5 and just a slight fatigue after an hour and no after fatigue or lingering tinnitus--- I loved listening to music through the hs5 though.. but on the e5 you can turn up the treble and mids and turn the bass down if you want to get something more similar to the hs5...
it's weird how the Yamaha add punch to the kick that you don't hear in the original song. The Presonus represented exactly the same kick and low end in the original. Loving the E8XT !!!
I have a pair and I love them
I ended up buying some Eris E5 XT monitors thanks to this channel. Was torn between Eris e5 xt, Kali lp6, JBL 306 and sterling mx8. I couldn't find anything sound test for the sterling mx8 as these were the ones I was really leaning towards getting. But after watching these great videos I choose the Eris E5XT and they wasn't ever on the list in the beginning. Thank you @Digital Stereophony
Hey man! . Do they have good amount of bass.. Are you able to mix kicks and stuff?
@@linpawz3029 yes this speakers are very clear and they have some thump. I produce bass heavy rap beats and they can handle it.
Everytime I search a comparison of speakers in the same price range, there is a your video about them. You are awesome!
Got the E8XT... clear sounds that doesn't irritate your ears for hours of listening mix 😊 Ear Friendly 👍😁
How about white noise?
@@ИгорьСеверский-н6ш All are subjective in term of clarity and to hear the frequency you preferred. As for me, its easier for me to hear, work and mix the frequencies according to my preferred output.
I'm pretty convinced now. PreSonus deserves a lot more attention. Lovely under-rated company.
Wait until you buy one, not reliable at all
@@mariopirrone8650 would you care to share your experience
I had bought a pair of e66’s, had to exchange them backward and fourth about four or five times. Due to humming, hissing, noise in the box. All different types of problems that occurred at different times. Got to the point I completely changed them for Yamaha hs8 and never looked back.
Yamaha and the new jbl’s are a good buy. Presonus basically do the best they can to make there speakers sound good in comparison to others, but the build on them are awful.
@@mariopirrone8650 that is exactly what I was afraid of for last month I have been going back and forth between these two trying to figure out which ones to buy to be honest I really liked the way the e8 sounded but guess I will be getting the hs8 for sure..have you noticed the yamahas getting overly hot do you think these can stay on during the day ? Or do you recommend turning them off after each use ?
@@mariopirrone8650 I have had my PreSonus Eris E5 for about two years and a half and they're still perfect. Now I want the upgrade, but have never had a single problem with the brand.
Eris 8 XT gives more balanced sound and deeper bass than HS8, I vote for E8 XT.
Weird, i hear the E8 XT has a punchy 100 hz bass, but missing the deep LOWS which the HS8 has.(Graph also clearly shows though,!!) Does your earphones actually do deep low bass? My Beyerdynamic earbuds can... so maybe you might not hear it ? I think the E8 XT is too punchy not very lineair like the HS8 is. The E8 XT is missing the DEEP lows. But both are a very close call and both should be ok i think.
@@HermanWillems I'm using a headphone that generates deep bass around 22hz and I feel like Eris has better bass representation, Yamaha has weird dip from 100hz which doesnt represent the original track frequency, I notice this because I am watching this video while looking at Voxengo Span spectrum analyzer (looping back to my DAW).
@@yasunakaikumi I got to go with @Herman Willems , in the deep it's very clear to me that Source to HS8 to E8, the deep bass just progressively gotten light, clear sign of not enough bass extension. The 90hz dip is on everything, it's his room, not any of the speakers.
You don't need to hear such excess of bass as your tracks will have a lack of low frequences when you mix
This video assisted me in deciding to purchase the E8XT's over the HS8's for my main control room. My father recently bought a pair of HS8's and I was not that impressed after hearing them real time. I don't regret my decision and will likely be getting E7XT's for my pre-production lab.
How are they?
Since the graphics are very similar, the sound played from my monitors and I heard them live a couple of days ago, consider the following that the 8xt is more balanced, the HS8 has a lower presence in the low range, which gives it the impression of detail at mid frequencies by not being distracted. This can change on the back of both and on the acoustics of the room. Being mid-range monitors, I feel like Yamaha fans defended it because they went first, but now Presonus did it but at less cost; Good mixes for everyone Congratulations on the channel
I can also hear more detail, depth and layers in the low end of the Yamaha's.
The presonus has a 'WAVEGUIDE' in the tweeter. That's the reason why sounds more detailed in HF response.
I Loved Presonus 🔥🔥🔥❤❤
The E8 XT sounds so close to the original source wow
I vote for Presonus. Yamahas has more mids compare to songs.
The E8 XT sounds more like the original
Presonus Eris speakers may have issues with louder self-noise (even without any source) as reported by many Eris XT owners. For this reason, the HS8 should beat E8 XT. Waiting for any owners of E8 XT to confirm if the issue of excessive self-noise has been solved by Presonus.
Presonus definitely has more low end, HS8 I notice is much more honest on the sound, especially with mids and highs. I own Hs7s and E8s, and they both definitely have their place, but I find just cause something sounds "better" on one speaker, it doesn't mean its necessarily better for mixing. Most important is a brutally honest reproduction of the sound. The Yamahas have that down in most frequencies, but the presonus you will get more of the low end. Best answer I could say is both. You typically want multiple sets to get more perspective of the sound anyways. However while I like both, my first choice would be the Yamahas. If you don't have a big space, you don't need any bigger than 7s. of if you have more space go with the 8s. And if you have the budget, get both. Just my perspective on this. Hope this helps anyone trying to make a decision!
Which one would you say sounds more "fun" in your opinion?
The Presonus sounds exactly like the one I bought. I’m happy with the choice because of more low end precedence
NOW MISSING COMPARE THE HS8 WITH THE MACKIE MR 824
totally
They sound very similar. It is very difficult to me to tell which on which without looking at the video.
After listening to many comparisons, I'm convinced to save up for the HS8, they're around $325 a pair here. E8 sounds good too but I can only find E4.5 here in my country
Which country are you located?HS8 is more than $700 in my country
The yami sound more spacious: bigger soundstage, more high end detail, mids and bass sound very similar to me .
The presonus e8 xt is probably better than the yamaha hs8’s. But i just love how airy the yamahas sounds. So i would probably go for the yamahas. Great video btw! Love your Channel! Very helpful.😀
From my experience i think the Yamaha's are monitors to be used to quickly put a mix together and master
@7:30 E8XT sounds close to the original when you play the boombap hiphop track. Especially the snare. Hs8 makes the snare brighter.
E8XT also handles low end better
Presonus wins
HS8 has an edge with a wider soundstage and airy presentation
The problem is the maintenance of equipment characteristics in long-term scale production. Yamaha has already proven that it maintains good product and delivers good products to long-term retail without changes to dry up costs. New brands and or boutique equipment have the difficulty of maintaining this for the long term. I prefer for now to keep my choice on HS8
HS8s are just legends in its segments
As any newly launched speakers are compared with HS8s and still stays close enough.
another vote for the Eris. wouldn't have a problem mixing on both of them..
room is so much more important as the question yamaha 8 or presonus 8! greetings
@@jenshuxley Producers are filty rich right? Can afford a big studio room easily. So just buy the correct space that fits with the 8 incher ;) not the other way around haha
Use one of each... ;-)
Well-said Presonus : Accuracy defined.
Maybe the Presonus sounds better in the video, because the tweeter makes the sweet spot broader and thereby easier to find.
This is a great video and sold me on the eris'! While I do feel the Yamahas have a more open top end, they lack that low mid punch I'm going to be putting in my guitars.
Thanks!
Thanks for your videos, I watched many of them. My intention was to buy Tannoy Gold 5, now I´m going to buy the Eris E8 XT. My ranking is PreSonus Eris E8 XT > Presonus Eris E5 (old) > KRK Rokit 5 G4 > (KRK Rokit 8 RP8G4, PreSonus Eris E5 XT (new), Adam, Tannoy, Focal, Yamaha, Kali, Airpulse, Mackie, JBL, Kali).
ok let me go grab a pair of those "Source Track" speakers right now!!!!! 🤣
Man these guys are so similar I never see monitors this close in sound LOOK AT THE FREQUENCY SHEET!
The music, I think they handle pretty much equally good. The vocals, Yamaha did best. There is not much that separates them, but I will give it to Yamaha because of the vocals.
I agree about vocals
Cymbals as well. Can hear more definition in the highs that the Presonus are missing.
Best overall balanced sound with no exaggerated frequencies in the Yamaha.
Yamaha HS8 is still a safe bet ; but both are great...
My choice is yamaha because Presonus Eris E8 XT sound a little too darker for some music tracks (but great too, and i appreciate this brand).
Yamaha HS8's are $244 each in Europe and same spkr is $379 in USA. Europe is not allowed to sell them here. Whats up with that Yamaha? Youre buying A NAME BRAND.
I agree... yamaha sounded a hair clearer and high pitched
Listening to Music? Eris E8XT!
Mixing and Editing Work? Yamaha HS8!
Thats what i would say, not that you cant enjoy music with the Yamahas, but for their more flat response and a little less bass, they are prone for soundwork in my eyes, while i think the E8XT are more fun when just listening music and co...better bass, good stage, overall clear fun sound, with no major weakness to speak of (which also makes the a good choice for mixing tho).
I agree so much with this comment. The HS8 sounds like you can hear more detail, but it isn't pleasent to listen casually.(It sounds too clinical) If you do both, i would buy the E8XT, if you use it more for mixing i would also advice the HS8.
You changed your mind a couple times there Wolf! Yep, the Yamahas have less bottom, and what Ive found is when you add more low EQ to get your mix fat, its too much, when you play them on other speaker systems or in, lets say your car. If everyone used Yamahas , then that'd be great......these frequency responses are so damn close, I'll save the money and get the PreSonus sub too, Yamaha jacks their price up if bought in the USA. Look at the Europian prices, like $100 less? But Yamaha will not allow them to be shipped here at the Europian lower prices.....go to Thomannmusic.com and price them... ;-) $244 each, $379 here. Youre buying " Their Name"
Hs8 the good one for good for mixing. It has a more clear sound and also more same to the original song. Can be good Presonus for chill some one.
I had the HS8 but I returned them back. They are lovely for lower volumes, however sometimes I feel they were very accentuated in the mids and highs, I feel ear fatige also with the -2 dB control for mids. Great bass by the way but for me, as I do not mix or produce, just for music listening, they were not adequate for me. Now I have Dynaudio LYD 8 but they are another league which cant compare.
Hey. I sell my HS8 to upgrade and i think to buy LYD8. Are they depth as the HS8 in the bass ?
Why does anyone buy these things when speaker companies that have been in business an winning competitions for decades exist? I've never seen anyone at a meet with these things. I'm pretty sure my jbl/hk/alpine / etc were the best things I've ever heard. Now I did own some of the best "Sony" an "akg" the leaders at that time in "studio" headphones. But they definitely sounded like a normal cheaper stereo back then . While the others not only were probably cheaper in many cases; sounded way better (tho headphones vs stereo right?). The " music" stores seem designed to rob children who think they are investing to be the next madonna.
These companies have no experience. Like. "Marshall". Horrible speakers in many cases. But it's target audience is high an drunk 14 year olds who think they are investing in a billion dollar gaureenteed lottery ticket. music stores/companies/youtube/media conmen definitely seem to know how much they can milk such people an have no shame in it. It's not just music either. Pretty much anything allowed in media.
Пресонус побеждает по частотному балансу , абсолютно сбалансированный звук, у ямахи явно завышены верха что показывает график в конце видео. Хотя звучат оба монитора достойно.
i like the slight bump on the high md frequencies on PreSonus speakers. whoa and i got to the end comparison graph while typing this 😁😁
For everyone that says one's better than the other... I recommend you to listen without watching :")))
There's legit no or negligible difference.
Very different to me, listening with Moondrop Aria 2021 IEMs through a Motu M2 interface
@@ayeeeck4512 yes there is, hs8 has slightly a little more high end sheen,
Excelente voy por el eris 😎
great test! thanks
E8 XT For me.
Could you do a comparison between E8 XT and E66 ?
Wating for this
I think HS8's mid/high range sounds more clear. In any video comparing to recent XT's successor, Eris Studio 8 and ADAM A8H, it's clear that Studio 8 has lower mid-range clarity, and this phenomenon feels the same when compared to HS8.
Guys I'm beginner at mixing which one should I really buy? I mostly use it for vocals, please send help. Any insightful answer would be highly appreciated because in my region presonus e8 xt is significantly cheaper than the HS8 maybe its due to branding but I really need an honest answer here! Great video btw
I have to disagree with most.
The hs8 are nicer sounding.
Better in the mid and in the lows more airy and natural. Even though i love the Eris E8 xt which is what i Will end up buying.
Yamaha won in all songs and in all around except in the affordable department.
When you hear Eris live - music seems to start from those membrans and you can "feel" stiffness of these semi aramid material... Not always pleasant feeling...
Did you hear both live? What is your opinion of them ?
@@HermanWillems I got Eris 8 (older, not XT), Tannoy Reveal 802 (older, without white circles), Turbosound and few Edifier - haven't heard Yamaha so can't compare :(
@@yfryt69 eris or edifier better for you?
@@ИгорьСеверский-н6ш Eris, but haven't heard S2000 and S3000 so can't judge those.
To be honest, listen to the percussions in tracks - presonus make some slight boost in highs compared to the original tracks, which could be the reason to pull it down in the mix, but they was ok. Yamaha is more honest in that part. But presonus have more tight low end, and I was surprised by synths legibility in the last track compared to yamaha. Don't know, maybe that's the reason to get them.
To my ear the Yamaha's sound more even, with the E8's being a little more pronounced in the low and top ends. Listen closely to the hi hat during "Inspiring Middle East" and you can hear it get a lot brighter on the E8's, and you can really hear the mid range move to the back on the bass guitar in "Man on Fire" on the E8's, as well as the pluck synth sounds on "Deep".
I think the E8's in this demo are more pleasing for listening, but I think the HS8's are worth the extra cash if you're looking for reference monitors. Use your own judgement though, I have zero experience with reference monitors which is why I'm watching this.
They both sound better and different in person.
@@aces3261 Agreed. I'm having a difficult time picking honestly.
@@JimmyBlimps Get one of each!
Yamaha HS8 has a much cleaner, tighter bass, a better presentation of the mids and a way more open, relaxed and natural sound.
Just checked the comparison with my Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro studio headphones connected to a Lake People G109-P headphone amp.
But I also got similar sound results with my Yamaha MSP3 studio monitors connected to a Fostex PM-SUBmini 2 subwoofer.
Since I own a pair of Presonus Eris E4.5 in my gaming and movie corner as well, both will sound really good in the end compared to many other speakers.
But for really accurate mixing, I'd rather go for the Yamaha - just my own experiences with the really sophisticated Japanese technology, not only in the home studio.
Can somebody tell "Man on fire" is from which album ? It is so soothing to hear . A link will be more useful.. Thanks
I am impressed with E8 XT, in every comparison it comes out at the top for me
Bro could not have picked a better battle track for studio monitors. 😆

Yamaha has more clarity but punch could be exhausting i dont know, id like to listen both of them for two days, i think yamaha is better, has clearer sound while not being iritating like tannoy or edifer, treble is much more profound at yamaha, altough if i had money i wouldnt risk on buying yamaha, id buy XT8, seems like good buy, also id like to just listen music, i need calming sound of XT, but those who produce would prefer yamaha for precision
all in all its good to have them both

E8XT, Yamaha sounds too metallic to my ears.
If you just want to listen to music the E8XT i think is great, but for monitoring and producing the HS8 is more detailed(And therefore sounds more metallic/clinical), and has the deep bass lows to monitor them. What are you planning to do with them? Producing or just regular listening? If both i would buy the E8XT indeed. Both are great choice i think.

Yamaha HS8 - 9.5 vs PreSonus Eris E8 XT - 9.7
Both great Speaker, Yamaha brighter, presonus darker. I prefere Presonus, better looking, good bass, loot of filters(can set brighter) on back and bit cheaper.
I gotta vote for yamaha on looks! I've always loved their aesthetic. I agree with everything else :). I've had a pair of yamahas for 2 years now, but I was honestly more impressed with the tiny Eris 3 I had before in terms of casual listening. Once I can go back in stores I might trade in for the E8's, we'll see I have to evaluate and maybe weigh the accuracy vs casual listening tradeoff
Is it normal to hear hiss on my xt8s when I don't have the audio cables connected? I'm worried
It will be the internal electronics causing the hiss.
My speakers hiss when nothing is connected and so does my home stereo so turn it off when not in use.

Yamaha's prices are like$100 more( each) if bought in the USA! Look at the $ prices if you buy from Europe
the problem is Yamaha will not ALLOW Europian countries to ship them here. I also think the NS10's are such an icon that ppl get caught up anything Yamaha with a White Woofer. The frequency responses on these are so damn close, my personal opinion would be, go with Presonus , as Yamaha likes to jack their prices on USA. The Yamahas are $244 each, new at Thomannmusic.com in germany $369 here...…..they are both good monitors
HS8 for me
Yamaha HS8 sounds more accurate and distinguishable
PreSonus! Kevlar and a great well rounded curve of tone. Yamaha tinny in the mids; is eye-candy standard in a bunch of studios and subjective. Yamaha made in Indonesia and PreSonus China...Pick your flip.

Both are of course top quality speakers - and would serve their purpose as studio monitors more than well. Yamaha has better high end, Presonus better low end. I'm listening to the comparison on Sennheiser HD650 which is a super accurate set of headphones and the difference is really small. In this price class there is a third good option: Adam Audio T7V - which might be the best option from all of them even though its a 7 inch driver. Not as thick low end, but superbly accurate throughout and works in smaller home studios.
Yamaha FTW !!!!
Hs8 💜
PRESONUS tá com uma qualidade ABSURDA nos monitores 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
Sigh - I'll have to chime in (again) in that trying to decipher which sounds better becomes fruitless, and why? Quite simply that each person that responded listened to this comparison with different speakers - whether they be small Chinese made sound bars, or other speakers - whether basic or advanced. The end result is that what you're hearing is basically what your speaker is capable of reproducing (or altering). Some may even listen with the ridiculously small built-in speakers of their PC units.
Thanks for chiming in, though I am sure most of viewers know they should listen to those videos with good speakers or headphones for the best effect
Of course, you are 100% correct, but in looking at the frequency responses, they are damn close. I think they'd both do the job ?
