  • The Battle Armour feature used on He-man and Skeletor from Masters of the Universe is a great gimmick. But it does tend to stop working. So I thought it was time I took apart a few of my Skeletors to see if it could be fixed.
NOTE: Do not use this method on Battle Armour He-Man, he will not survive. He-man suffers with gold plastic syndrome and will shatter. You have been warned.

Great idea splitting it open with the hammer! I thought you were going to cut it open and lose some of the plastic, but this is a marvelous solution!
I would put the slightly bit of oil to the spring to try to protect it from rusting again.

I had Battle Armor He-Man and Skeletor when they first came out. The He-Man figure had problems with its position mechanism right out of the packaging. 6-year-old me was devastated, so I wrote Mattel to explain what the problem was. Let me tell you, Mattel (at least back then) got an A+ because their response was to send me a brand new figure that YAY! worked like a champ!

This is so awesome! Fixed a Skeletor using this right after you posted it, and I fixed a He-Man tonight. I can confirm the plastic is softer on He-Man, though! Tried to be gentle but put a couple small cracks in his torso. Nothing a little glue couldn't fix, though, and he's good as new now!

I just tried to fix a He-Man and legitimately ripped it apart without even cracking at the seam. Not only is the torso hard as a rock, but the glue is too powerful!

    hallo,
    Psychodad

I attempted this last night. I wasn’t able to get it so I gave up. Then the next morning I tried it again, got it finished perfectly, the actual torso cylinder got a little messy because I used glue, but I repainted the messy parts and now he’s good to go! I actually glued down the spring part sticking out. Worked pretty well. Thanks.

I have to admit, I wouldn't have thought of taking a hammer to an action figure to break a glue weld. I'd love to know if a He-Man figure battle armor figure could withstand that sort of thing, as you've noted that Skeletor is made of a different and harder plastic.

I seen amother guy on UA-cam do this, but I think it was in German .I carefully watched his technique but I was afraid to try it because I couldn’t understand what he was saying to do with the hammer. Lol. Thank you for explaining it. I have two or three Skeletors that need this repair. I may be wrong but I believe all of the bodies for MOTU Is an ABS plastic. It should all be roughly the same. Maybe some are thinner than others though, but ABS is impact resistant. I have cut some of the regular bodies apart with a razor knife and reassemble them trying to repair the action punch feature. I haven’t figured that out yet either. I hope you figure that out soon. I would love to see you do a video on that. You are the master! Your work inspires me to repair and experiment with some of my toys. Thank you for what you do.

    • @toypolloi
      @toypolloi  5 років тому +1

A rubber mallet may work, but as you are only hitting the arm peg, any marks are hidden. And as you see it only took a few taps for it to split. If you use a piece of wood to rest the figure on, then that protects the other peg as well. Cheers

They woulnt have glued these (well, they may have but as an engineer thst designs things for mass production i know a lot of techniques and "wet" processes are frowned upon). I would suspect the two halves are pushed together then with an ultrasonic welder bonded by fusing the material together. Very tough and bloody hard to rework or repair.

Hi! I'm trying to swap torsos on motu figures but can't get the torso open up by tapping with a hammer. Do you have any pointers for me? Should I put it in boiling water first?

This technique only works on a couple of figures. You need to cut them apart otherwise. And it's not easy to do without damaging the figure.

Thanks for the quick answer. I'm trying to swap the crotch piece (with the legs) of Man-e Faces and Trapjaw. I know the legs are the same, but I need Man-e's crotch piece on Trapjaw for a custom project.

Have you tried opening a vintage Heman or Skeletor with waist spring using this method?
I wonder if it would work the same as those figures had hard plastic bodies like B.A. Skeletor.

This only works on certain plastic. It won't work on most of the rest of the Motu figures.

Is there a way to take the black off the top of the legs on the battle armour He-man and Skeletor figures ?

Not really. Check out my video on crotch rot.
