Petrucci also loves having one note always stand out in his clean tone. Count of Tuscany intro is a prime example, and he does this in many songs. And it just works.
Excellent way to give a feel for John's style and small little details that make him sound like him. Loved it! Would love to see your take on Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth.

Was searching for "air to mania" before realising it was Erotomania haha, great vid as always and I'd love a habits of Mateus Asato or Tyler Bryant ^__^
The funny thing is thats a real word. Erotomania: When you're a dummy and think famous people are in love with you. I imagine JP gets this now. Full circle on that one.
I've studied Petrucci for years. Petrucci is masterful and very intentional. Those rubs are not accidental, you're right. Everything he does has purpose. He made it a specific goal to master various techniques and styles. So that his creative well wasn't ever limited by his ability. He doesn't embrace happy accidents like most guitarists. A happy accident to him is a precisely executed note or technique, already in his tool kit, that came out creatively instead of another choice that he's also mastered. Not randomly discovering or pulling off a technique that was beyond his ability. Everything he does is repeatable for him. Every note and sound is supposed to be there and has meaning. He's extremely disciplined.
"it's just this maw of angry sound that makes you want to flex your muscles" Tyler, the man has bigger muscles than your thighs, the amount of aggression is unimaginable until you hear it.

That was awesome man! Very thought provoking. I would love to see you do a Habits Of for Daron Malakian. His infusion of metal and eastern elements is so unique and has always made System Of A Down stand out to me.
