@@painvillegaming4119 and all it takes to hit critical organs is one bite from a hippo. Don’t get me wrong serrated teeth might give it a chance but hippos are naturally aggressive as fuck. The hippo will have the advantage but depending on the location the shark might win.
So basically one on one its just the Bear, Rhino and the Elephant even though in my opinion its just the Elephant because it just really outclasses the hippo and with those theoretical encounters its a bit silly because then you could count a blue whale in which could just grab and drown the hippo or the giant squid and so on.
@Allosaurus 67 Maybe if he flanked the hippo because he is faster and the hippo would take a while to turn and try to bite him. Like the narrator said, it would take a while for him to slash at his sides and try to break his ribs or spine while trying to avoid his mouth. If the hippo manages one clean bite, it would be over.
hippos cant swim. they move through water by walking on the bottom of rivers and lakes. its impossible for a hippo to go anywhere near water deep enough to ever encounter an orca.
I think the main takeaway from him mentioning orcas and Kodiak bears is that 'Only 4 animals the hippo would ever meet would have a chance at killing it'
Pirahnas might be an unlikely honorable mention. Hippos have a thick hide that protects them from big predators, but with hundreds of small pirahna bites slowly chipping it away, the hippo doesn't have any chance but escape. Fish are too small and agile for a hippo to bite them anyway, so they don't even have to fear that.
Pirahnas are very easily spooked, so I can't see them sticking around to eat a much larger animal which is still moving. They seem to prefer scavenging.
In the amazon there is one fish that is the bitch of everything else... they are known as... piranhas. Yeah no even a slightly large catfish is enough to beat piranhas.
@@925263 Debatable. Piranha are capable of biting through thin steel rods. On another note, I find it hard to think of a scenario where a hippo could bite even a single, fast moving piranha in a swarm of dozens or even a couple hundred.

@@enejjazbec6958 that's why I said "Try doing that"..... Since they're actually known to attack Big Walrus.. we saw the videos of them attacking but not killing
My guess is that hippos grew large in part because they had to live alongside of crocodiles. A fully grown hippo is usually too big around for a crocodile to mess with, and crocodiles are smart enough to know better than to attack one. The crocodile could get bitten severely enough to die from its wounds. Same with lions. If a hippo is caught outside the water by a pride of lions, they might try and attack it but it only scratches up the hippo and if a lion gets careless it can get severely injured or killed by 1 bite from the hippo.
@Destructo WIZ not that I know of. Hippos have always been land creatures although they are probably slowly evolving to spend more and more of their time in the water. I think that whales themselves evolved from a creature something like a hippo but that took place in the neighborhood of 50 million years ago.
Ive seen a video where a lion pride was trying to attack a hippo as it was running away. While running it bit to the side as a lion was jumping on its back. Instant kill. Rest of pride just nope-d tf out immediately. Insanely powerful animal.
Lion pride will find it hard to stand a chance against Hippo due to the agression behaviours despite of increasing in numbers single individual hippos will make Even lion pride to retreat and rhinos and elephants can stand a chance against hippos if the numbers of lions are high enough then the Hippo will struggle to deal with more numerous lion pride
The Orca does not weigh 12 tons, they usually weigh from 4 to 6 tons, a large male may be 8 tons. The largest Orca weighed 10 tons, most are between 4 and 8, with 8 being very large and heavy males

Other than an orca "killer whale" a dolphin can defeat just about anything else in the water. @@925263 No offense but that's a terrible list, filter feeder sharks don't stand a chance against great whites and orcas regularly prey on large whales
These lists always seem to forget one of the most dangerous animals in the world, second only to the African Elephant on land, the male Elephant Seal. These monsters are ridiculously massive as well as aggressive, not even Polar Bears dare to mess with them, they would absolutely destroy any land animal that is not an African Elephant.
@@oluwadamilola6233 Doesn't matter how slow you are if you're that enormous. Plus, orcas were on this list, and they can't move on land at all while not being that much faster than elephant seals in the water.
Yeah, elephant seals and walruses could definitely give a hippo a hard time! They're both massive animals with very thick skin and blubber, not to mention giant tusks and canine teeth. No matter the outcome, a fight between any of these would take a very long time before any one dies.
Orcas? Well, why not add in sperm whales, great white sharks and giant squid? Actually, there's also the Gaboon viper, whose exceptionally long fangs could _just_ penetrate that 2-inch hippo hide.
Right? And he said polar bears hunt bull walrus lmao. They try to steal a baby walrus. 99/100 Times a adult walrus makes it to the water. A big bear could kill a young walrus but that's not a fair fight
Then you have never seen a Kodiak Bear face to face. A lot of us have. A hippo stands absolutely no chance on land. He just doesn’t. I have lived in Alaska. Trust me.
@@CB-ux5xc so have you seen a hippo face to face ? I have and their heads and bigger than an entire human body , their heads themselves can weigh over 500lbs in large males. A Kodiak stands 0 chance lol , I am a bear enthusiast too but it's s fact that it's no contest
1 on 1 to the death an Elephant or white Rhino are the only 2 that would win consistently. An Orca certainly "could" kill a hippo but the conditions for either to actually move around properly are implausible. A hippo in the open sea vs an Orca in a shallow river? A huge bear would be the only land carnivore with even the slightest chance but they lose a majority. A huge croc could possibly take on a smaller than average Hippo like a "runt of the litter" type if you will, but an average or above sized hippo is too much for any croc. Prehistoric animals should not apply since the modern day hippo has no way to face them.
A Lion would have a much better chance than any bear. I have seen a single male Lion take down a sub adult hippo weighing several thousand pounds. He literally pulled it to the ground. He avoided the mouth so they just ate the hippo alive.
I’m surprised to hear about the crocodile on the list, because a video I’ve seen which I can’t remember if it’s from this page stated that it was only one reported death of a hippo from a crocodile, and it was a reported two deaths from lightning on a hippo so lightning was more dangerous to the hippo than a crocodile
Yeah this list is absolutely bogus. Elephants are the only viable thing on the list… Nothing else on there is messing with an adult hippo… lions can’t even puncture their hide; it usually only takes a pride one time to realize it’s not worth the effort/ loss of life
Most city people never see large bear or hunt them so you wouldn’t know about them other than in books. I have hunted Kodiak Bear and a Hippo stands no chance. Until you have seen them face to face you will never understand. Sorry.
@carlo er Other animals were bigger in that time era. A hippo would have to kill lots and lots of animals to survive whereas a T Rex need only kill one or two to be set for a while.
@carlo er Maybe, Im not well informed about this topic. But the largest herbivores are much bigger than the largest carnivores. Elephants, hippos, and rhinos are all herbivores and are the three biggest land animals. In dinosaur era the biggest dinos were the long necked guys.

The people who are sating a hippo stomps a kodiak bear have no idea what they're saying. Sadly these days people only care about statistics. They never saw a kodiak bear to realize how big it is for a 700kg animal. The kodiak bear pound per pound is one of the strongest animals in the world and they are experts at wrestling and have insane stamina and endurance to have a long fight with the hippo. The only deadly attack for hippo is biting the bear skull or neck which won't happen because bear reflexes are top tier and they are too tall which gives them an advantage to bite hippo's heads or necks. If a grizzly bear can hunt a bison and pokar bear hunt walruses and beluga whales why you think a large kodiak can't kill a 4 legged short hippo? In reality the hippo stands no chance at all. Probably the bear won't bother with the hippo but if you put them in a cage fight the bear will certainly stomp the hippo.

6 Animals That Can Defeat a Hippo "Number 1: A human with a gun."
Hippos eat fish. Also a piranha cannot bite through its skin at all.

Even bears can't kill fully grown hippo
Lion pride will find it hard to stand a chance against Hippo due to the agression behaviours despite of increasing in numbers single individual hippos will make Even lion pride to retreat and rhinos and elephants can stand a chance against hippos if the numbers of lions are high enough then the Hippo will struggle to deal with more numerous lion pride
The hippo would have to seduce each lion one by one, by use of various sounds and gestures.
