Hmmmm I can never forget, that's the day I come to Lagos. To cross to VI was a problem. I cryed because people were so sad, it's a day I can never forget as a little girl.
Africa's Jesus....the man spoke and was humiliated like Jesus Christ. He spoke the truth even in the face of his oppressors. Thank You God for giving us our prophet who redirected our minds to be true Africans and nothing less. Thank you sir for your impact on us
I remember when in the 70s I was just staring up on a saxophone as a beginner, one day Isaw an Afrikan man man wearing an underwear with a saxophone and an a ganja joint on his hand, smiling. Later I discovered it was Fela Kuti a somewhat notorious rebel politician saxophonist from Nigeria. The rest is history, I read everything about how the subsequent Nigerian governments brutally treated him and his family including his mother thrown by the army out of a window, and Fela himself beaten many times by the Nigerian governments armies. Later this hero musician died from what i believe to be the repercussions of his many beating by the Nigerian army law enforcers. Similarly her mother died of the after effects of brutal harassment by the army and police that led to her being thrown out of the window in a couple of stories building, because of her political convictions that were against the likes of the then Nigerian government. I'm a South Afrikan but I send my message to Fela in the African Ancestral Spiritual Abode that I'm with him and pay my gratitude for his influence on me as a young musician and a fellow saxophonist/vocalist, and I believe there's still a lot to be done by musicians. Glad his sons are doing it like their father. May he be welcomed to our Afrikan Ancestral Spiritual world.!!!
I was introduced to his music in 1981,at age 16, while listening to Radio Bophuthatswana,(I'm South African)....he's always been one of my favorite musicians.
What a memorable day......i walked from tbs to gbemisola....femi leads possession that day and MIC band playing tunes. But my highlight of the day was when we got ojuelegba femi display was so emotional at ojuelegba junction....everyone sing from "ojuelegba from ojuelegba"

Wow Wow Wow! I don't know who is singing. I've never heard this song before but that is definitely the Egypt 80 band. Nowhere else will you get that kind of totally hypnotizing Afro-beat rhythm.
Walked all the way from The National Stadium ,Surulere, Lagos to Gbemisola Street, off Allen Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos, and I never felt a thing, not with the great abami in front of me,it was a walk against oppression, racism, hate, corruption and everything baba detest, and a walk for life, for freedom, for love, for togetherness, happiness and everything Fela loves. Rest in peace bro,not even their NYSC endurance trek comes close

Great tribute! Well done ooo! The footage of Baba at 5.45 - 6.19 is amazing! He was already miles above and beyond. Love to him strutting! Please post more footage of Fela from news/court appearances.
Im glad i was there. Used to work in bank then. I had to lie so i will have to leave work early to go to Tafawa Balewa Square and then followed the funeral procession all the way.....one thing i noticed and it doesnt happen often as we know it....at one time in the very bright hot afternoon....someone pointed at the sky....and right there was the moon and the sun so close to each other, out at the SAME TIME in the afternoon and this left a lasting impression on me about how important this man is in the world. Its something i have not seen again since then!! Anyone who was at Tafawa Balewa that afternoon can confirm this!!!
Yes, I know exactly what you're speaking of. I believe it's the universe's way of saying the world has lost a great soul or that the heavens welcome a great soul. I first experienced it when Michael Jackson's body was brought to Staples center...
The funny things was that I was a kid back then living with my sister at Apapa, my late mother came to visit us. She had a dream of a great man dancing and singing while ascending into the sky while the whole world stood still watching him sing and ascend into the open sky. She narrated her dream during her visit which was like 2 weeks before Fela Joined his ancestors. The narrative was so real that we were saying " mummy you've started with your dreams again". My mum being who she is with her dreams, we always respect her dreams and take it serious whenever she makes such revelation. Low and Behold Fela joined his ancestors two weeks after my mum's dream. The day Fela was laid to rest, we witnessed the celestial bodies move, it was like the earth stood still. It was so glaring, that day I said this man has something inside of him. Spiritual Message in him for the people, thus a prophet.
Even at the university of Zululand where i was in 1976 we played his songs because they were revolutionary to annoy the authorities who were racist. Gogo/ grandma from Soweto South Africa 🇿🇦 ♥️ Feliz
I'd have loved to hear what Fela said @ 5:57 🤣🤣😁😂🤣.... for him to make Army men laugh out that loud... He was a Humorous and charismatic fela... Rest In Power Abami Eda
