Heck, your trip to TJ was like a perfect script. Your rental car seamed like it's been there a million times. No red lights, no traffic, perfect lanes driving in, you were actually driving fast with no Feds pulling you over, and a relatively short boarder line. "Until you tried to be honest about the packing materials you had shipped to TJ but live in LA!!!"
yeah that was a nice lesson for us to not tell that border officer anything.
Why? The officer asked a few questions, and checked out the styrofoam; but that was it. Driving to Mexico to pick up styrofoam sounds really sketchy though, so I can see why the officer was suspicious.
It's changed a little! Back in 1967-8 the road in was via an old brick bridge over the Tijuana river. Vehicles and pedestrians crossed the bridge together and it got you to the bottom of
Avenida Revolusion. {Spelling!!} Warning to servicemen returning after a night in Tijuana--"do not pee off the bridge because the police will arrest you." And there was always the US
Navy shore patrol wailing just on the US side. Most interesting happening? Impatient Tijuana taxi shot around a bus and collided with a police car that was in front. The police
lined up everyone in the taxi and also the bus passengers along the bridge. We scurried past on the opposite side of the road. Great days!
The first time i crossed driving I never went throguh an experience like yours. Gates were Open and everyone just went in freely.
That’s how it is sometimes!
I miss Tijuana so much! Crossed that border every day for 4 years complaining of wait times and now I’m like didn’t know how good I had it lol.
The good old days!
You have made it a lot harder for yourself when he asked if you had something to declare.. just say no.
Wow, I remember in the old days before entering mexico was a big sign saying MEXICO is now gone, thanks.
You should do the Canadian border next. The Washington/British Columbia crossing!
That is the other end of I-5
I did this 2 times with my family and my house is really far away from Tijuana to Los Ángeles
Looks nicer than it did a year ago
Not everyone qualifies for SENTRI , the check background is pretty extensive and because of COVID the waiting time if whether or NOT qualify is way long. This waiting time was not so bad, I herd some folks have to wait up to 5 hours.
Same goes with NEXUS for US and Canada. actually....... some of them are qualified for Nexus while others aren't qualified for nexus.....
What is SENTRI
@@mattybrunolucaszeneresalas9072 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SENTRI
Thank you, great video!!
Thanks for watching!
thanks for video
Looked so straightforward! What time of the day was this? During weekday or weekend?
I believe it was a Thursday or Friday
So a rental or any other vehicle needs to be register online before using SENTRI lane? I thought it was only my personal vehicle. Great informative content btw.
Correct
I'd be going all the way down to Cabo San Lucas!
You rented through Hertz any particular one you pick it up at? Can't seem to get a rental that allows me to drive it over cross border.
same ask, did you find any?
Most interesting is from where did you get that Hertz rental allows driving into Mexico?
I’ve checked many rental companies on the San Diego side, they just say only in the US, no one allows driving into Mexico. and Hertz told if want rental car to drive in Tijuana, they have office in Tijuana to rent a car in Tijuana instead
I just told them I’m going to Mexico and they added the Mexican insurance for a small fee
what location did u rent the car?
Hi, when you were returning to the US, where was the Sentri lane? Is it a completely different on-ramp or section of freeway? Because it looked like the few lanes there were all backed up. (I'm referring to where the street vendors were waiting along the side of the road.) I'm asking because I have Sentri. Thank you
Yes it’s a separate entrance, but I think you can sneak into it, I think it’s on the far right
Driving in is one thing, leaving can be nightmare with the huge monton de coches. Driving como NASCAR
jaja you right compa, too many pendejo driving here.
The San Yasidro crossing looks much different than the last time I crossed it, (about sevenyearsago. ) About how long did it take for you to cross back into the States?
i went in 2021 and crossing back into usa took 3 hours
I found this web site that show ave wait time. bwt.cbp.gov/details/09250401/PED Hope it is faster now.
Missed opportunity to play far away by jose gonzalez
Driving in was unexpectedly easy but going back was the worse
Are you able to easily use your American debit card at an ATM in Mexico to withdraw pesos?
Yes I’ve never had an issue
He's like I had to come to Tijuana Mexico for business.... Rrrrright got it bro 😂
It’s always business in Tijuana man lol
Do you recommend any over night parking? We’re traveling from TJ but we need to leave our car. We’re not using CBX
There’s some overnight parking on the San ysidro side that I show in other walking videos, I’ve used them before and they are safe
@@SalTravels thank you I will look for your Videos
Great video... do I ONLY need to show passport for returning back to Us from mexico by car not when I am entering Mexjco from USA by car. Right???
Correct
@@SalTravels Now I see why Returning back takes much longer than entering Mexico by car..... Now, I am curious do I need passport to enter canada 🇨🇦 from USA by car or not... may be both entering Canada and Returning back to US from Canada unlike US Mexico borders.
WE DRIVE A HONDA CBR600F4I MOTORCYCLE TO PLAYAS,TIJUANA
AND SHOW OUR SENTRI PASSPORT. PRAISE THE LORD, JESUS.
@@chrisb6943 Yes you need a passport to enter and exit Canada. The passport requirement came into effect after 9/11.
I’m confused why did he ask you all those questions? And how do I avoid that when I cross the border?
I kind of just did it for the video lol…you can just say you’re not bringing anything in and you just went for tourism
Pretty much all stores in Tijuana accept US Dollars, so there's really no need to exchange for pesos.
You get a better rate with pesos, and some places deeper into Tijuana don’t take dollars
Getting to TJ is easy. It's getting back that's the issue.
so.. I travel to Mexico frequently.. I always have to fill out an FMM card and they mark how many days I can stay.. so.. what happens if immigration stops you in Mexico? And you dont have a stamp or number of days? Also, I drove in once, through McAllen, enroute to Monterrey... I had to pay over $500usd deposit and get paperwork for my vehicle... Is Tijuana different?
It’s always hit or miss. I usually fill out a card too for 7 days but this time, nothing. I’m not sure about the $500, I had gotten Mexico insurance prior, but once again, no one checked
Do you know if a kid under 15 needs a passport ?
Only need FMM if you’re staying over 7 days
@@SalTravels Can you recommend reputable Mexican car insurance maybe in San Diego we can buy liability insurance driving in?
@@jamescc2010 I cannot, I’ve only driven in once and it was with a rental car, sorry! There’s tons of places near the border though
I think an FMM card is required to be get stamped for tourists, which is missing in this video.
I always leave my car in this side,
If we plan to drive our car to Mexico, via Tj , what kind of insurance and where to buy? We’re interested to go to Puerto Nuevo.
You can call your car insurance to have it added, or you stop at one of the many insurance sellers in San Ysidro to buy it for the number of days you’ll be visiting. Then hop back into car and drive in.
@@kelmac1618 We have US passports, do we need to get any immigration papers and have them signed or anything when going in MX and out?
You don’t need insurance
How come they never even checked/stamped your passport? Is that normal?
No stamps given
You don’t show your passport or Id if you drive in TJ with car but you do need them if you go thru on foot?
Going into Mexico it all depends on the day, time of day, etc lol, sometimes you do sometimes you dont….but going into the USA you always have to show passport no matter when or how you cross
I ran across your video and I know it was made a couple years ago but my question is… So it’s perfectly fine to rent a car in the United States as long as you get Mexican insurance? We’re flying into San Diego and want to drive to Guerrero Negro and then come back to San Diego and spend a couple days. So that’s why we would rather rent a car in San Diego and drive to Mexico instead of renting one in Mexico… Thank you
That’s what I did! As long as you get the insurance for the amount of days you’re out there, you should be good. I went with Hertz and there were zero issues
@@SalTravels good thank you that’s been my biggest concern… I’ve never drove into Mexico before… Can I ask one other question? Do I need the FMM form and if so, where do I get it?
@@gentadventure4173 I have no idea! Every time I’ve driven in it’s been unattended so I just drive by…if anyone else has the answer feel free to comment
Was Tijuana safe?
Do you need special insurance if you only are driving to Tijuana
Yes, there’s various insurance places near the border where you can get it for the day
It never pays to be honest at border crossings you always get hassled and rejected.
That's correct
Do I need a FMM Visa to cross the Tijuana border from San Diego on Car?
Never crossed myself but it is my understanding that you are supposed to get one even if staying within the border zone, although it's not obvious where to do it. If you are staying in Mexico less than 7 days and entering by land there is no fee.
You get a 7 day visa on arrival if that’s what you’re asking
is travelers from other countries allowed to enter mexico?
Depends on what passport you have.
When come back to USA. how to look which one is mexico or American?
When coming back to the USA, you should see the signs pointing you in the right direction
7:55 Korean!
Buy 1 get 1 free milk, tea shop
How much does the insurance cost and is it absolutely required
Check out Baja bound.
You don’t need insurance
You don't "need" insurance to go in but if you get in an accident they can take you to jail for not having it. If you're caught for any reason without insurance you can get fined as well.
@@ramiroramirez23 yea well who wants to go to a mexican jail for not having insurance ?
@@1MNUTZ you won’t go to jail 😂 sounds like you don’t go to TJ very often
Mexico doesn’t have its own border guards to check vehicles and passports like Canada does?
Yes?
I’m not sure but i think is illegal to film at the American port of entry
Probably!
Sound really suspicious coming back in
What if someone has a u.s visa and enter Mexico
How the u.s immigration is gonna know.how long did u stay in the u.s?
They won't unless you drop off your I-94 card (if you entered by land and have a physical one) in one of the drop boxes (not sure where to find them, especially if crossing by car) If taking a short trip to Mexico and then returning to the US, don't do this, as time spent in Mexico is still counted within your period
@@jakolu but there is no immigration between u.s and Mexico they don't stamp or check ur passport when you enter Mexico? How does Mexico know who entered?
@@beyondthestars4299they don’t.
The US doesn’t consider a visit to Mexico and back as a re-entry.
Aren't you supposed to do FMM stuff?
Supposed to 🤷🏽♂️
No checking on border ??????
Not this time!
Month and date
You talked too much during the checkpoint 😅
I cracked under pressure 😂😂
You talk way too much lol that officer just kept asking you questions. You opend up a can of worms.
I did it on purpose to show the video what would happen lol…it would be boring if I just was waved through
He asks alot of questions
To be fair it looks really suspicious, american guy drives from LA to Tijuana for less than a day to get some styrofoam, for video game packing? I would more often than not think thats a drug run.
@@xNamsu isnt that why they have dogs to sniff the drug out?
@@JR-tq6dg yea sure but you never know if the dog is failing to pick it up 🤷♂️. My point is that the officers at that border are probably always on high alert. I cross the US/Canada Peace Arch border a lot and the officers are way more relaxed.
So you dont need a driver license ?
If you’re driving a car, yes
@@SalTravels ok thx for the info
which entry is that?
