THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video an crucial information. I had no idea and just happened to stumble on the video and decided to watch it. Google gave me both options you show and I thought, oh, I'll take the coastline route for the view. And then I didn't realize about Matamoras either, until around the same time I found this video this weekend (i JUST recently a few days ago started looking into moving to Mexico). So THANK YOU for saving me. I will be following the highlighted blue route on your screenshot instead. THANK YOU again!!
Good to hear that about the very windy (meaning lots of turns) road along the eastern coast. Plus the advice to go south to Huatulco. What I don’t understand is that on google maps the road along the coast looks like a federal highway and it doesn’t look all that bad. ??
Wow super helpful. Did not know that about gas cans! I will be driving to Eagle Pass as I hear it is safer, and will pour my jerry can into my tank after I burn through some fuel. I have now have a route figured out, thank you again!
Glad I watched that. I would have went down the east side but after Mark's advice, I would take his route. Where in Texas would be safest to cross into Mexico?
Thank you for the video. I’m planning to rent a car and drive from cdmx>Puebla> >Oxaca> Tehuacán>back to CDMX. Can I ask for your advice on which route to take or dont
@ Planning on Dec 28. Also, this might be an out of field question, but if I don’t speak Spanish and gets pulled over by a cop who demands money, is there a customary amount? Sorry if I sound naive as I’m flying in as a gringo from the other side of the world, Taiwan
@@lifeinhuatulco Quintana Roo, Yucatan, Campeche, Tabasco and may be a bit of Chiapas. As far as I know the real danger is if you drive near the US border in the North. What is your take? I know that Mexico is not the US but obviously I wanna avoid hot areas where it is likely to get trouble even in daylight.
Very nice Video .. Please tell Mark thank you! I know East coast gas prices are a little less right now.. But the Pacific/Central part of the US has skyrocketing gas prices between 5-7 dollars a gallon! California is one of the worst states.. in Oregon right now Diesel is over $5 a gallon and I heard Arizona is in that same category. Anyways... I love hearing about what highways he travels and why... When I was much younger I drove the far East trek from Laredo, Texas... back then we only had ONE situation where we were stopped by people in Uniforms... But when they realized we couldn't communicate in Spanish much... just Gracias and Por Favor.. LOL they let us go.. :)
HIVOLCO if we are polite and do not show fear, all is well. Showing fear makes them think we are hiding something. Back when Mark was young, we did the trip 2 - 8 times a year. We always had cold Coors in a cooler for them. LOL Now that is not a good idea.
Thankful for this info! Can you recommend anyone to drive with this grandma and pets through Mexico? We could take turns driving? Less stops=better for pets! Thank you!!!
I wish you'd SPELL the names because a lot of the times the pronunciation & spelling is VERY different! I'll be traveling alone so it's VERY important I understand 100% where I'm going! (in Canada gas has been over $6.00/gallon since before Covid,!)
I'm planing on going to Oaxaca driving from San Francisco Ca. Do you recommend driving from California to Laredo and taking your route or should I just go out through mígalas and cross all of Mexico ?? Any tips would be great. Thanks in advance!
@@Yxotic yes! Made it back to California safe! On my way back I took the Michoacán, Jalisco, Sinaloa way but I do not recommend. Took too long but at least now I can say I drove through most of Mexico !
One Try. One has to walk across. Take a taxi to the airport. There is an airport in Reynosa. My son says it is not so safe. So, do a early day light flight and light on the luggage, dress low, profile non touristy.
