Worth noting that Benson was rule 5 eligible in 2021 & 2022 and went undrafted. He broke out in 2022 and im happy for him but it was reasonable to question how real it was
It’s like in The Office when Jim has to name all his pranks back to back and he feels mean when they’re all listed. Guardians are like “this looks bad back to back to back”
This is hilarious because the offense is looking good this year. I will say they pulled the trigger too early on some of them. But Nolan is doing good in Colorado where balls fly. They also have chase DeLauter, manzardo and will be getting Bazzana or Condon. They'll be ok.
As a Guardians fan the one that hurts the most is Nolan Jones. Will Benson was given the same amount of time as Will Brennan and only one Will B was going to stay, and Will Brennan, in Cleveland, looked better. The Reds are doing great things for Benson that Cleveland just wasn't doing - just like the Yandy for Bauers trade years ago where the Rays did great things for Yandy. The Straw trade for Maton/Yainer is terrible years later, but the Nolan Jones was never given a real shot when he was a top 5 prospect in our system for 3 years and I just don't get it...
I'd still take Bo over Yainer and as good as his bat is, his framing is still bad and that's honestly more important to this team than his elite blocking
I understand feeling frustrated that we traded Jones, but Juan Brito is an absolute beast. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s called up by the All-Star break and makes an immediate impact. Watched him play in Akron last season and he’s phenomenal.
It’s an issue with having too much talent at some positions. Brennan’s new swing looks good, Freeman has always been promising, especially now he can play OF. Brito has looked very promising thus far already getting to AAA. Nolan I agree though hurts the most, though thus far he has shown some regression.
Amazingly the Guardians are in first place in the AL Central as of this writing with rookie manager Stephen Vogt. And they have highly rated prospect Kyle Manzardo just recalled, who they got from the Rays in exchange for starting pitcher Aaron Civale.
Nice video but most of these players probably wouldn’t have developed had they stayed in Cleveland. Lotta players break out with a change of scenery or to train under a new coaching staff.
Exactly! There is such a disparity between perception and reality. CLE sports fans may be more guilty than any in advancing the myth of how bad the front office is. I'm always seeing on CLE sites people talk of how bad the franchise is, then you look and see they've put up winning season after winning season for years.
*_In the combined previous 10 SEASONS, the Guardians hold the 4TH BEST TEAM RECORD in ALL OF BASEBALL; a few games behind the Astros._* Sure, they have made mistakes --- MLB team management is competitive in the EXTREME --- but, OVERALL, they stacked up VERY WELL compared to the rest of MLB, especially when factoring the REALITIES of their financial restrictions [read: they are NOT in a MEGA-lucrative market]. So, yeah, I/we get your point but I suggest you look at the BIGGER PICTURE.
A month into the season, and the Guardians have one of the best records in baseball. That makes the trades mentioned in this video look like they haven't caused many issues so far other than missing the playoffs last year. We'll see what their record is like in September. Maybe they'll win the division easily. Maybe they'll implode and miss the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Astros have the fourth worst record and baseball. Yainer Diaz has a better BA and BABIP so far this season than last season, but his OPS and SLG have both dropped a decent amount. He may or may not reach expectations. Nolan Jones's stats have been pretty bad this season too. He isn't even batting .200, his OPS is under .500, and his BABIP is down by over 140 points to .255. He might not be a good player this year if those trends continue. We'll see what happens, but so far there are signs that both Diaz and Jones could very well have a worse season this year than last year, especially with Jones.
And yet, 3 weeks in and they're playing fun, great baseball. Yes, they're beating up on bad teams but you know what, they are beating the teams on the schedule. Freeman, Brennan, Fry, Rocchio, Arias and Florial have all made key key plays at the plate and/or on defense to keep this momentum going. Not projecting anything. It is far too young in the season to do so, but for the youngest team in majors, two straight years running, and there is still a logjam of young talent that needs major league reps to evaluate, I have moved on from the featured players in this video. EVERY team has moves that can be second-guessed, but the good teams find ways to persevere and be competitive. So far, Cleveland has done that. If they need ANYTHING right now, it's a starting pitcher who can consistently make it through at least 6 innings. Atlanta and Houston are next after Boston. CLE just needs to keep winning series.
People only think about Coors as being hitter friendly. So when they look at a players splits and see that he's just as good on the road, it's easy to assume that ballpark isn't a factor The reality is, playing for the Rockies pretty much makes you slump-proof. Assuming you're at least a competent big league hitter. All other players on all other teams have to work their way out of slumps. All Rockies players have to do is wait til the road trip ends
Yeah as a Guardians fan it hurt to lose Benson, Jones, and Junior but I am rocking with Bo over Diaz long term. The trade would not be nearly as bad if Oscar was able to continue any kind of success that we saw in late 22. Dude fall off the face of the earth.
A good argument could be made that this video is preemptive for players like Jones and Benson, but I think Jolly is right on the money. I'm fully in on Jones. Part of me thinks Yandy might not have figured it out to the degree he has if he stayed in Cleveland though. I also don't know of much I believe in any of the Guardians middle infield prospects. I guess it's good that the Guards could still prove this video wrong.
Ugh please don’t remind me of all of these players. For some odd reason, the franchise will hold on insanely long to old washed up veterans, but give up on young hitters within 1-2 years. It’s insanely frustrating. We’re the best at developing young pitching, but we don’t have a clue how to assess or develop hitting.
It's not all that odd, it's actually pretty common...ownership is just extremely cheap. They trade young players just as they're breaking out aka becoming expensive future contracts. Teams like the Marlins, Rays, Pirates and many others, operate the same way. It's gotta be extremely frustrating being a fan of one of those teams. I'm a Phillies fan, our owner spends money, it's awesome.
I think something important to note with Nolan is that he was a third baseman coming up in the minors Cleveland doesn't need a third baseman. That being said, I was still hella sad when that trade happened. Being a Cleveland fan is not fun sometimes lol
And despite all of this, the Guardians are still primed for a great season and future. Two elite prospects at the top of the system, and the first overall pick. Yes these trades hurt, but you have to remember at the time Oscar Gonzalez was the main piece in a huge playoff run. It looked like Kwan/Straw/Gonzalez was going to be the future and the biggest need would be SS and 1B. Now it’s outfield, but there’s multiple options to fill that hole as well as the current guys are doing a great job.

-Benson is still likely nothing more than a platoon OF, similar to Joc Peterson. It was a mistake to choose Brennan over him, however, and I think this is the biggest mistake the FO has made the last decade.
-I’ll take Bo Naylor over Diaz 7 days a week. Bo had the highest WAR per PA in all of baseball last season (yup, go check, he sure did).
You state "here's what the lineup would look like had they not made any trades last year"...and then include a guy in the lineup that was traded 4 years ago. (Diaz)
*3
Getting Manzardo for 5th starter Aaron Civale could be a great steal for Cleveland.
Commenting while the Guardians are 51-26 with the best record in baseball
5 months later.. i think the guards are ok with the trades thus far lol.
The Indians have made fantastic trades in recent years and their lineup is doing extremely well. The organization is one of the best in the league for developing players, making great trades and scouting talent.
Nolan Jones was a 3B when they traded him, he was stuck behind Jose
Will Benson did absolutely nothing for his 30 games in Cleveland in 2022 while Oscar Gonzalez was on fire. They went with Oscar and it didn't work. Oh well.
As stated Naylor is the catcher of the future for Cleveland and when the Diaz trade took place we had a log jam at Catcher in the organization.
There are way worse trades to pick at. Yandy Diaz, Aguilar, Yan Gomes
Hahaha hahaha buying talent in Cleveland? That doesn't happen
Fuzzy is in tears watching this
praying to Jobu for sophomore season regression
Luckily for Cleveland, the David Fry era will shadow it all.

@@phoroshd2896Lmao same. So far this video is aging very poorly.
In general, Cleveland knows when to ship talent away. They got Manzardo from a washed Aaron Civale, and Clase from a washed Corey Kluber. Not to mention half of their starting lineup used to be Padres prospects who they traded for 😂
Did it? They still traded away some great young players
@@smolitj Benson and Jones have had piss poor sophomore seasons thus far. Could have just been first year lucky for them. Maybe they'll bounce back, but as of right now, Cleveland hasn't lost much of anything with those trades.
@@GISWIZ99Fair, I still believe in those guys. But since they are winning now and the traded players are struggling, fair.

Cleveland is cooking rn tho-
Don't forger Santander, Urshela, and Yandy Diaz... just to name a few.
Us O’s fans say thank you to Cleveland for Santander .
@@Narfnam19 yall got lucky he got injured a bit into his R5 season because there's no way that team was keeping him and his 67 OPS+ (while ideally being a DH half the time due to D) on the roster all year.

Damn just trying to have a nice weekend and BAM
Believe me Jolly, we're used to this. Paul Dolan has the 4th highest net worth among MLB owners, an incredible GM in Chris Antonetti, fans that still show up after the name change, the best 3B in the league who took a paycut to stay, and nothing to show for it. Dolan REFUSES to spend big money since they didnt win the series in 16.
He refused to spend even BEFORE that. He's such a goddamn joke
He spent big literally the year after 2016 and; brought a top free agent in at $20 million a season. He also runs the best ran organization in winning in the city by far... and the fans thank him by whining a lot and not showing up much to the games. He can go F himself for robbing Louis Sockalexis of the team named in his honor.
Google what the A's got in return for Mark McGwire, Josh Donaldson, Matt Olson, Matt Chapman and Sean Murphy.
Worth noting that Benson was rule 5 eligible in 2021 & 2022 and went undrafted. He broke out in 2022 and im happy for him but it was reasonable to question how real it was
Still is, not like he’s been worth talking about yet this year
It’s like in The Office when Jim has to name all his pranks back to back and he feels mean when they’re all listed. Guardians are like “this looks bad back to back to back”
0:39 I'm sure you'll get to it bc after all you are the Happy Grape, but Junior Caminero could be on here, too somewhere!!
looooool didn't even know there'd be a Happy Grape reference later on!!!
Checking in after the Guards beat the Mets, how are the Guards doing?
Can’t forget they also traded Yandy Diaz and Junior Camenaro to the Rays for nothing
I dont believe Benson and Jones are actually good players. They looked like all the 4A outfielders the Guards have had over the last 10 years
I love it thank you Johnny olive
This is hilarious because the offense is looking good this year. I will say they pulled the trigger too early on some of them. But Nolan is doing good in Colorado where balls fly. They also have chase DeLauter, manzardo and will be getting Bazzana or Condon. They'll be ok.
Without losing those 9 games jolly talks about there would be no bazzana or conden in CLEs future …
Astros fan here. The fact we got Yanier Diaz who mashes at a non-premium position like catcher for Myles Straw is an absolute steal.
I know this is semi unrelated, but I just found out that in 2021 my Padres traded away Jack Suwinski for half a year of Adam Frazier & now I’m sad.
That sucks at least you didn’t lose Betts and Bogaerts in the span of 3 yrs
@@canaanlocke4375Oof, that’s rough. I don’t know much about the Sox, but how are they looking right now?
Well Bogaerts had a solid yr and was good and Betts 2nd in mvp voting last yr
Every team has something like this. Giants gave up Bryan Reynolds for a year of McCutchen. Dodgers gave up Yordan for Josh Fields.
@@zeeks23 Also Jays give up Moreno to the Dbacks.
Yandy could always hit. But cleveland wanted a power hitter, so we traded him for Jake Bauers... who hit .190 and we traded his trash play.
@@ezridaxsgender3914LMAOOOOOO Bo isn’t in the same universe as Yainer
It’s an issue with having too much talent at some positions. Brennan’s new swing looks good, Freeman has always been promising, especially now he can play OF. Brito has looked very promising thus far already getting to AAA. Nolan I agree though hurts the most, though thus far he has shown some regression.
Amazingly the Guardians are in first place in the AL Central as of this writing with rookie manager Stephen Vogt. And they have highly rated prospect Kyle Manzardo just recalled, who they got from the Rays in exchange for starting pitcher Aaron Civale.
The Guardians took this video personally.
If someone could please make a compilation of all the "What is you doing baby" from Trev that would be greatly appreciated. My soul needs this.
Nice video but most of these players probably wouldn’t have developed had they stayed in Cleveland. Lotta players break out with a change of scenery or to train under a new coaching staff.
Happy Grape is wild 😂
I like this new style of video keep it up 👍
Cleveland has the best front office in the MLB. They have been almost flawless in the past 10 years. Surprised to see this.
You're gonna make Fuzzy cry with this one.
Yeah well their “bad” lineup is 16-6 this year
Outside Yanier Diaz this is aging like sour milk. Benson .190 60 SO & Nolan .170 demoted to platoon.
The MLB Power Pros shop music never fails me
And yet, 3 weeks in and they're playing fun, great baseball.
2024 Season is very young, but the Guards are 5-2 and have scored the most runs in the AL so far... time will tell.
People only think about Coors as being hitter friendly. So when they look at a players splits and see that he's just as good on the road, it's easy to assume that ballpark isn't a factor
The reality is, playing for the Rockies pretty much makes you slump-proof. Assuming you're at least a competent big league hitter. All other players on all other teams have to work their way out of slumps. All Rockies players have to do is wait til the road trip ends
the guardians are like position prospects, we have no patience for, pitchers, we'll wait ages for you
Will benson ! He’s my favorite red rn and baseball player I’m glad we flecced the tribe for him
Lol
Yeah as a Guardians fan it hurt to lose Benson, Jones, and Junior but I am rocking with Bo over Diaz long term. The trade would not be nearly as bad if Oscar was able to continue any kind of success that we saw in late 22. Dude fall off the face of the earth.
I think you’re going to want Yainer instead.
@@mike-0451 in a few years I might agree with you, but the vibes of the Naylor bros are elite.
Jones batting like under .200
A good argument could be made that this video is preemptive for players like Jones and Benson, but I think Jolly is right on the money.
Jones and Benson looking like garbage so far this year. Brennan has been sooooo much better than Benson

Hi fuzz
😂
There have been too many positive Indians/guardians yt videos. We needed to be humbled😂
I think something important to note with Nolan is that he was a third baseman coming up in the minors Cleveland doesn't need a third baseman.
That being said, I was still hella sad when that trade happened. Being a Cleveland fan is not fun sometimes lol
Forgot about Yandy Diaz
The hitting was not the problem last year it was we lost 5 starting pitchers. Good job know nothing about the team your coving.
The fact that Bo and Pete Alonso are from the same draft class surprises me
I think the most painful is going to end up being Junior Caminero for Tobias Myers.
Live to see it though since I will never recognize the “Guadians.”
Good to see it isn't only the Cardinals that do this lol
