The Explorer, no. There are so many things that are off with it compared to a real '84 it's ridiculous. The V I certainly would be more apt to buy. What problem is Gibson having copying what was made back then???? If it's a tribute, make it a tribute and recreate it! Please tell Cesar they get a "fail" from a long time Gibson customer
@@JokersWild70there’s a stack of things wrong with the V as well not a 70s v at all.
Is the Gibson logo etched or a label/sticker?
This shouldn't be more than $1400. I would never pay $2500 for it
But but
It has the GIBSON logo! /s
You can’t buy many American made guitars for much less. PRS, Fender, Heritage and the smaller builders are the same or more money. Quality USA made guitars are the prices they are.
There are Epiphones going for $1300 and ESP LTDs for over $2000, so I wouldn't say $1400, but def not $2500, maybe around $1700 with how things are priced today
@@benlogan430 "Quality USA made guitars they are" then why are Gibson priced so highly? Because they def don't show the quality for the price they're asking..
Correct. No way this guitar worth 2500.
Absolutely shocking price point for those features, entry level stuff
Shockingly high without the shock lol.. oh well, would still buy it if I were in the market. When I finally do buy a v though it will be red like shenkers.
Guitar: 200 bucks
Gibson logo: 2300 bucks
Well don’t buy it dude. It’s not for your cheap ass
@@TylerJohnstonGuitar Always clowns in the Comments section. Go buy a fucking Glarry or a Squier
Comment section is full of statements like these and whilst I agree, no one seems to want to elaborate on what they mean by "features" or what should be included in its pricepoint. A figured top, whacky push-pull wiring configurations, robot tuners? V is a V as far as I'm concerned. It's got no pickguard which I think looks great and minimalist on a blacked out V and the pickups seem unique and only attainable in this and its counterpart Explorer (for now). You're right though, it's a rip. Knock $400 off and I'd consider it if I were in the market as the gentleman above said. The silver lining is that being a Gibson, it should hold its value well if you ever decide to sell later.
They are saving the alder and other stuff that SHOULD be here for a run to either push for, or announce, Pap Het. This way they can charge over $10,000 for a true spec 80s model, down to the headstock angles and everything. I can see this happening.
Thats exactly what’s going to happen and the worst thing is they’re still going to sell
It's a V "studio" with no binding or MOP and its being charged "standard" price
Rather get the 70s for the same price
Looks like a $119.99 Glarry
Exact same situation as with the Explorer. Sounds and looks good, but there is no reason at all it should be more than $1700. It’s a V version of the Les Paul Studio with dots instead of the trapezoids. 😢
Which means it should be even cheaper than the LP studio, since the dots are cheaper to implement than the trapezoids. These should be $1500 max, and I'd still consider that too much without the correct woods and pickups
I’d be crazy to pay 2500$ for a Gibson…especially with that glue sticking out the nut on that explorer. It’s just crazy to me someone would pay more than 1500$ US for a USA-made guitar and the quality check being so poor…I have an Ibanez AR-420 TBG and a Godin radiator reissue and both guitars are perfectly built with no mistake or any flaws…The Ibanez has a Jatoba fretboard so it’s the less expensive one of the 2 ( around 700$ us) but the Godin is using all premium wood and is made in Canada when it came out I paid 1000$ for it but it’s now up to 1350$ in some store because of the high quality they’ve upped their prices a bit.
I have an '83 like this built on my birthday. Had to have it restored, as there were 2 thin cracks in the body from sitting in it's case in Ron Zelle's trunk. Blue abalone fret markers & replaced the humbuckers with EMG's like Het used back in the day. Satin finished the back of the neck up to & including the back of the headstock. Plays real well yet!
The price really is madness. A Les Paul Tribute costs less and has MORE features.
I agree, Those 80's V and Explorer, back in the 80's, ' were striped down versions, and so are these new ones! I love Gibson, but these are WAAAAAY OVERPRICED!
But Trogly, you are doing a great job! Keep the videos coming!!
I love V's and Explorers but $2500 is a joke. They're basically studio models or tributes with glossy finishes. At least offer them in unique colors or with figured tops or graphics or something to justify the crazy price.
A tribute would have a maple neck, which would actually be more period accurate.😂
@@joermnyc Right, thats why I said studio or tribute. I actually prefer maple. It's about the only thing I liked about the Norlin era guitars.
Just for fun: the resistance of the middle pickup position R_mid_ can be computed as: 1÷(1÷R_neck_ + 1÷R_bridge_)
So... 1÷(1÷15.95 + 1÷7.36) = 5.036
I really don’t watch this channel that much and im not even a fan of gibson but I just have mad respect for trogy because of his grind and how much goes into each video, that fact that he uploads everyday is insane to me
Yes sir Mr. Trogley is a gem👍
It's a full time gig!
Agreed, even though give him grief about Gibson pricing and QC I appreciate his daily uploads and he comes up with some very cool pieces!
@@duanewelsh5611 nice guitar. Personally i couldn't see myself spending that much on this guitar. A nice hollow body jazz guitar would be so sick at that price though, seems inflation has seen me out of the market entirely 😂😂😂
True!
These look cool but then I realize you could have picked up the olive drab flying V tribute for MUCH cheaper when they came out and spec wise these don’t seem too different.
frankly the Olive Drab Tribute in every aspect is a more appealing guitar to me.
Because I already have an Epiphone Flying V and previously owned an Epiphone Explorer, these new Gibson models aren't quite so enticing for me. What does entice is my slight remorse at the following: when I was a teenager, I resisted purchasing one of the '67 Flying V reissues that were on the market. If I had gotten one, it would have been one of the best bargains ever. If I remember accurately, that was one of only two electric guitar models that Gibson was marketing for less than $1,000 before tax; the other was the SG Standard.
It is way to expensive. It is basically a studio but has less wood, and it costs $1k more
Love the videos, its crazy how much they charge for this level of QC. I know this is decent QC for Gibson, but that's kinda the problem... Sounds great as you'd expect, which is good.
I'm glad I got my 70s V & Explorer before the huge price hikes.
The pickups are great
I would have it painted like the Hendricks V.
Looks just like my Gibson V I have had since 1989. Mine has a few dings as well as a Trembucker. Played quite a few shows with it.
The middle pickup with Call of Ktulu, literally so near perfect
They just shouldn't be $2500, absolutely *NOTHING* justifies that ridiculous price..
Awesome guitar!!! Never had a V but I do still rock a Jackson Dinky and honestly out of all my Strats, teles, semi hollows etc… that Jackson might not be the best sounding guitar in my gang….but it’s definitely the most comfortable to play. Something comfy about 80’s style guitars! Love this show!! You’re such an intelligent dude and you’re a natural narrator/host. You seriously got it going on bro !! Much respect to you !!! Cheers from North Dakota and keep the awesome guitars coming !! 😎🤙🏼
The price for these 80s reissues is laughable
I cant see why theyre so expensive.
If Fender and Squire for that matter can get alder easily why not the mighty Gibson?Oh yeah, that’s right, they don’t care what we think
I have the limited 16' faded Gibson explorer with dirty fingers. Man I love its tone. Thinking of getting the 80's Ebony V. It looks like the set up is similar to my Gibson Explorer limited, which was a great find!
Think I'll wait for Epiphone's version!🥱
I really like the Explorer, but I do wish they'd have used a different type of fretboard inlay.
For the V I'd have liked to have seen it as a string through design with the smaller, 1981 style headstock.
Salutations Austin!
Much like the Explorer, this is an interesting Flying V, and it is an instrument that is configured to enable someone to do a variety of modifications to suit their particular tastes, I look forward to these being offered in a variety of finishes.
This specific instrument has a very colorful rosewood fretboard.
Thank you for posting these videos!
Please have an excellent and awesome day!
☀️✨🎸
A gig bag isn't worth much . A nice guitar should be delivered case included. What the case is worth should also depend on if the manufacturer values the customer and protecting their product. That's also something I often wonder about. What is for instance this case valued at or any guitars case that come with it.
The big bag that came with my “tribute” model Les Paul is absolutely fantastic. Best gig bag I’ve ever seen. It has backpack straps, super padded, it’s leather, it’s pretty quality.
I would consider if it was like 1500 bucks. But at this price point you can buy waaaaay cooler stuff
My friend loaned me his red 80's V for sometime, I don't think it had original pickups, I remember an invader type in the neck but it was a dream to play, wasn't very heavy, and was so resonant.
I really hope they sell the 80's pickups on their own at some point. That bridge pickup is especially killer sounding. Would love to put one in a Les Paul of mine if possible.
Wish they would have the more rounded headstock like on the Kirk model or the CMT version
Great $2500 for two silkscreened guitars.. I’ll just keep my Epi “AMOS” and be happy the rest of my life!!
Too expensive to be that different I mean it’s cool but for that price it. Should have the DF pups at LEAST , the headstock idk my 84 is one of the stumpy headstocks maybe I’m just biased .. the fretboard however looks IDENTICAL mine is the exact same light rosey streaked color . Idk this would be a cool 1500 dollar V .
Jeez at that price.... Gibson could have at least give us a couple of colour options?
These look cool and I’d be interested in trying the 80’s Flying V and 80’s Explorer. That being said $2500 seems a bit steep for these. I really wish Gibson would bring back the Flying V Faded like the one they had available from 2002-2012. They’ve got a Les Paul and SG in the range. Why not have a Flying V and Explorer too.
I had a creamy white 1981 Gibson Flying V, but it didn’t look like either of these. It had chrome pickup covers, those witch hat knobs, and an elaborate pickguard.
I'm becoming interested in guitar again after several years because of your show. Thank you
Cesar and Agnesi best be walking around the Gibson offices like "Why are we getting what Juskiewicz got? What are we doing wrong here?"
I really love Flying V's and I think this model is pretty nice but I really wish Gibson would offer a wider variety of finishes on the V's in general.
Yes for example silverbursts
Any comparison in terms of sound with the 70s FlyingV? I watched your review a while ago but I was wondering what's your opinion about the two.
I have a white 2007 V with the full pick guard and truss cover. The fretboard use of, and it has the 490R and 500T. I was told it's a 67 RI.thoughts on that?
They are more considered '67 "style" than "RI", the RI are custom shop.
I'm remembering back in 1983 when I paid $1,000 for my heritage Korina Flying v now the black one selling for 2500 I think it's overpriced ten grand for the heritage Korina v
Remember to count in inflation of your purchase back then.
$1000 1983 is roughly $3000 2023
But yeah, Gibson has totally lost any kind of touch with reality, these will def not sell like hot cakes as anyone would've guessed because of their price that should remain a far fetched dream..
I want my 80s V to be in black and white like Michael Schenker's.
When will Gibson realize they are ridiculously expensive?
Notice the Les Paul Standard just went up to 2999.00 from 2799.00. Crazy expensive
Nice shot of that '71 Medallion
One of these days when you are reviewing Flying V guitars you should slip in the ZV Bullseye made in Gibson's Custom shop i think. I would like to see one reviewed.
You're only a click away!

For the nearly the same money I'd rather buy a real '80's V....
Would absolutely love one of these. I’d put my fav DiMarzios in, though.
I have an 88-89 v90, just a single hum bucker. Rare version; simple but still is a lot nicer looking than this
I have an 1983 V but mine has nickel tipped kluson tuners with reflector knobs...
I remember when I bought my Explorer Traditionnal for 1299 barely a few years ago, and Flying Vs were about the same if I recall, it's crazy. That said, these days Korean imports can cost more money than a USA Les Paul Standard, like LTDs for example. I guess it's just where the world is heading.
I'm glad I bought my guitars before this crazy price increase, cause I would not be able to afford them today.
Soon as you hit that bridge with dirt that thing came to life!!!! All of a sudden that guitar owned you bro!!! Keep that thing!!!
For real though, that thing has some crazy soul in it
Nice fretboard
Make it white and ebony board and I’m in. As it stands, no thanks. No guitar finish needs an ebony board more than black and white IMO
I have an 87 with an ebony fretboard, paid 550 in 88, these are over 3k in Canada
It’s a flying v studio. Should be the same price as les pauls studios.
A lot of people posting here about what it "should" be priced at and invoking Les Pauls as if they pricing dynamics are the same.
They aren't.
This appeals to a niche. A core of enthusiasts for this particular model. I imagine there is more elasticity of demand with the LPs when it comes to price than with these. To put it another way: if Gibson dropped the price of these by 40% (for example), they would not see a commensurate increase in sales. I could be wrong, but that's how I see it.
@@rexrathtar3893 I'd say you are correct. It is a niche that will want a black version of either and they are probably testing the waters to see just how large it is.
It would be “difficult” for a $1 BILLION company to get some alder for the body?? Next you’ll be telling us that it would be “difficult” for them to find the money in their budget to train their QC department.
i still got an original, my first guitar ever, i got at "we buy guitars" on 48th st. in nyc back in the 80`s. it`s pretty beat up, like me, but unlike me it still looks & sounds awesome.
It’s like a tribute or studio version for LP standard prices
Yeah, they can’t all be winners, huh?
They don’t all have to be winners, but hey if you’d like to pay more for less to each their own!
I watched this video shortly after the Gibson Faulkner Siignature “V’ & I have to say that this 80’s re-issue really beats the Faulkner on tone.
Smoking hot bridge but doesn’t sound that way actually. Doesn’t sound bad but the sticky fingers pick ups are better hands down.
It should cost more than a tribute but less than a studio.
They are the same tier as studio's. Production run USA V's and explorers.
I got the GIBSON USA Flying V '70's Tribute when it 1st came out and it was $1999.00 and I thought that price was NUTZO ! Itssa MONSTER Guitar, OMG !!! The 70's Flying V 70's Tribute has Alnico 5 magnet pickups and is heavier sounding althoughj the '80's tribute Humbuckers might be Alnico 5's as well.....my Mac's Logitech External speakers arent Celestion Greenbacks by a long shot !
Very round and rich pickup sounds. I'm not sure if the strap button position is an improvement.
The original placement has neck dive issues so it is a great improvement
Hard pass for that price and poor quality control as well. If it was $1300 to $1750 that'd be better.
Should knock the price down to $800.00 for the simple fact of Tim Shaw pickups in them.
I will say just from looking at it the first 10 seconds the strap button on the top Wing is in a way better place. That with a leather strap kills all the neck dive.
What in the Heck did they do with that rear strap button!!!!!! That is a great looking rosewood fretboard. Gibson prices need to come down...or their quality level needs to go WAY UP! They have made a few improvements, but have a long way to go to match other Top Guitar Makers in quality craftsmanship.
The dirty tones were way better than the explorer! Now play baterry on it lol😂
I wonder if they are charging so much for what should be a “studio” model to cover the cost of designing the new pickups.
Edit: I hope they sell the pickups separately at some point, those would be great for a partscaster.
Maybe the best $1000 guitar in the $2500 range. Gibson is a little too proud of their things these days.
That is what this should cost. Then it should go down to 799 in a year or two when they don't sell.
So it has a different headstock, different pickups, and different strap button locations than a genuine 80s V but they are calling it a reissue. These seem like basic things you would need to get right in order for it to really be considered a reissue.
I love the idea of bare bones no frills flying v and explorer models geared towards metal but I can't justify spending 2500 on one. For that price I'd rather just get a standard model with nicer features and such. The tribute/faded LP and SG models are at the right price point. Don't know why these shapes are an exception.
Evening all!!
Nice 🙂
That could have had Ibanez Gio written on the headstock and I wouldn't question it.
The 80’s mantra was “Greed is good”. So in that respect Gibson has nailed the 80’s vibe
Trying out new stuff is a necessity, but Gibson, has had plenty of time to get there shit together. And still be able to offer great guitars, every once in a while the custom \mod shop throws out , some super badass guitars, and please,at a decent price!

Best comment on the internet
The neck pickup seems okay, but that bridge pickup sounds like hot garbage IMO at least through your rig. Same goes for the Explorer video, so it seems to definitely be the pickups. It would be interesting to hear through something else, but I’m not optimistic. Seems like the overall value is about the same as a LP special which is priced at $1799 or maybe just a LP Studio which is $1599. This has to be a high profit margin guitar. Granted the Studio doesn’t come with a hard case, but a Special does.
Over 15K ohms is too hot. Some of the best sounding and most famous recordings were on stock PAFs at 8K and less.
What's the difference between the 80's bridge pickup and a 500T? Seems like there is a lot of overlap. I hope they're not unpotted like the OG DF's. Yuck.
2600$ is insane...call me poor i guess but i cant see why this isn't a 900$ guitar. i bought a dean v for 89$ that sounds and plays great.i guess if i had money to throw away i wouldn't care what it costs. no binding no nibs no perloid inlays its not an expensive guitar to build at all. all you get for all that cash is that it says Gibson on the headstock.
cause you're broke, the end!
@@94SexyStang wear is all the money in this guitar? its not worth what they are charging. broke doesn't equal stupid.
Joining the chorus of voices saying that $2500 is massively overpriced for Gibson's 80s Explorer and Flying V. If they were $1500 (in line with the Les Paul Studio), they'd be clear winners for hard rock and metal, compared to blinged-out imports Schecter and LTD in that price range.
Although I just wish Gibson would bring back the '67 style Flying V. It was the one that was in production when I was in high school in the mid-00s and still dream of. The late 2010s and on version with the half pickguard doesn't do it for me.
Just way to much $$$$
For the same price pt you can get a Les Paul Classic with a maple cap, coil tap, binding, and a mother of pearl inlay Gibson logo. Just ridiculous
It’s looks like a 300$ guitar lmao
Wait until these start showing up on the used market. Some original owners will be shocked as to how little they are worth.
I know that at the end of the day Sound and feel of the guitar are the most important parts, but for 2499$ I think you can expect that gibson should be capable of screwing down screws properly...
👍
Greetings Andy
@@sgt.grinch3299 Good evening Sgt

The paint finish is shocking! I'm a Gibson fan and own a few older ones but the modern gibsons fit and finish is horrible...
I like it over the explorer, but I'm not coming off $2500 to own one. it's just too bland. The case looks really nice and the pickups do sound pretty good, but I'd rather have wood grain.
Has Gibson ever made a Corinna BASS guitar???
Explorer, V or other?
I'd buy one. I prefer Mahogany anyways, so I'm good with these.
Yo
Well done Grant, you earned a Silver Medal.
Wowsers these suckers are expensive for an entry level guitar
There arent nearly enough alder V's on the market.
