this video gives me a really great idea as to how to look at the game. One of my biggest issues however is dealing with blockstrings. Whether I don't have the execution necessary or I just don't know how to do the mixup because i don't play the character, I just don't know how i would set that type of situation up in the practice tool. Would my best option be to go through the replay, find particular moves that are messing me up and check it out on dustloop and go from there?

      Probably

Honestly, I just go to training mode on record function and play the other character a bit until I understand the move/block string that was beating my ass.
Block strings are usually way easier than combos to execute, and it helps form a deeper understanding of the enemy character.

I think my biggest hurdle for myself is keeping calm, and combos/reactions. It's kinda like the mind is going 100mph but the body is only doing 50mph

this happens when you haven't practised enough the combo against the CPU, you practice against the dummy first until you can make them 10/10 on each side, and both close, and running in(is not the same), and then you play against the CPU and try to punish with it, once you get used to it you try it on ranked, if not your nerves will destroy you and wont let you operate cuz you are not used to react

Thanks for this, looks like my shortcoming is knowledge. I'm confident in my footsies as Anji, but struggle against rushdown and technical characters because I don't know the gaps I can safely challenge in (no meterless reversal)

3:39 but she can special cancel afterwards so is that really punishable? Sure the specials are punishable but the 2D itself? Still learning the ins and outs.

she wants to make you afraid of the special cancel, all of it is punishable, the 2D and the specials

    • @we5am

At the most basic level her 2D is minus. This is important because 2k 2d is usually buffered for millia players so it comes out on hit or block 90% of the time but not on whiff. If the millia player decides not ot do anything, or doesn't react in time, you can punish her. Her only safe special afterwards is lust shaker if you instantly cancel and most millias under floor 10 won't be able to do that or might not understand that and go for s disc. Knowing that it's minus starts a rps game while otherwise you would just give her the situation, which is extremely detrimental for the opponent since her gameplan revolves around making safe, correct decisions.
I'm a floor 10 millia player so take what i say with a grain of salt. :)

Thank you for the answers, but wouldnt my safest option just be not doing anything and awaiting neutral? Otherwise its a guessing game, isnt it? Probably looking to hard into it.

@@Kioget You're sort of correct. Blocking low is technically the safer option, however if you continuously block out of fear for the special cancel, she can just not do the special & get another chance to reset her pressure.
There's also the factor of her command dash, Mirazh, to consider. If you get too comfortable blocking to avoid a special cancel, she can cancel her 2D into Mirazh to close the distance, potentially trapping you with a Mirazh~Lust Shaker cancel, or a Mirazh > Throw mixup.
Additionally, the rewards she gets from hitting an S-disc or a Lust Shaker are pretty low (A small amount of damage and a soft knockdown). This can make it worth to challenge her 2D cancels, in case she attempts to reset, especially if you play a character with a lot of health, like Potemkin or Nagoriyuki. Once you've identified whether your opponent prefers to reset pressure or cancel with a special, you can react accordingly.
TL;DR: Millia wants you to be afraid of challenging her 2K, 2D. Do your best to identify what options she likes to use after 2D (S-Disc, Lust Shaker, Mirazh, or reset), and have a plan for how to counteract them. Keep in mind that a good Millia is gonna switch her selections up when they stop working. Though with her small life pool, all you need is a few good punishes to win the game.
      Best of luck homie

@@baconbits2152 Thank you my man. I forget that sometimes the reward is rather low on moves and that is something to consider. Im 10th floor playing pot for the most part, dont play against many millias, ususally arent a problem either. But the thought intrigiued me, my biggest issue is getting through pressure because my moves arent too fast.
