Awesome Utah road trip! Your content is raw, simple and inspiring. I’m planning to do The Grand Circle Road Trip at the end of the summer and your videos have giving me lots of ideas. Thank you!
GREAT series on your Utah adventure. I love the content; love the breathtaking views; love how you show the versatility of the RAV4 TRD Off Road. You guys are both great. Thank you for bringing us all along on your journey. Keep the content coming. Just subscribed. Stay safe.
Cool, Cool... You guys are just like me and my friends. " Peeing on a snake is good luck. Pee on the snake and drink a beer." lol... Love the honest cursing, and the bad ass RAV4. Great video production too. GREAT COOKING as well.
Awesome video! Those meals looked awesome. We’re going to hit the east side of the Hole in the Rock in a couple weeks. Great filming and just good work!
awesome shots. can you share your camping gear/setup specs by any chance? I'm at a very early stage of planning (thinking about what SUV and setup would best suit my needs as a solo traveler)
Thanks! Yes we have a lot of gear, but our primary camping set up includes: • iKamper Mini rooftop tent • Dometic CFX50 refrigerator • Dometic PLB40 battery • Rockpals 100W Solar panel • ARB 2000mm awning + room attachment • Tembo Tusk Skottle (our primary cooking device) • 2 5Gallon Jerry cans for water storage • Frontrunner folding chairs • Folding table from Amazon • Extra blankets • MyMedic First Aid Kit • Lots of cooking supplies We have some upgrades to our vehicle as well for extra protection & ground clearance (lift kit, bumper guard, skid plates).
@@LunarLanderXplor Thanks for the detailed answer! Anything (gear/car-wise) you would change if you were to do it again? Was RAV4 had enough room/off-road capabilities?
We are definitely happy with all the gear & upgrades we have added over the past year with this car. The RAV4 has been great for us in terms of size & capability, however if it is the right vehicle for you depends on your needs. We don't do any super difficult offroading, so the RAV is good enough for forest roads, finding dispersed campsites, etc. For any serious offroading you might consider a true 4x4 like a Jeep or a 4Runner. Those have worse on-road performance and worse MPG efficiency, but are better for offroading. Overall we are super happy with the RAV since we are mostly on road for road trips, and then some light offroading for finding those perfect campsites.
Have you had any issues with the transfer case making a groaning noise? Apparently there is a recall to fix it, but some people are saying they still are having problems even after the fix. How many miles do you have on it?
No issues! We have about 25k miles now after a year and a half. Many road trips, camping trips, dirt roads, trails, etc and the RAV has handled it all very well.
Thanks! Trying to remember how long it took... I think about 3 hours each way. The beginning is easy, just washboard (the faster you go the smoother the ride). Once you get the the last portion, it gets slightly more challenging (we did not have a lift at the time, so we had to be careful). There are a ton of turnouts along the road that can be used for camping.
Hey there! Great video hope you are having fun safely! Is there anything wrong with your back suspension? It seems like it's way lower than it should be. Is it because you load the car way heavily?
Thanks! Nothing wrong with the back suspension, except the rear coils are designed for basic street driving without too much weight in the car. With all the gear we have (roof rack, rooftop tent, awning, full refrigerator, chairs, safety gear, etc.) we are pretty heavy, with a lot of that weight on the rear of the car. We actually just ordered a new lift kit to raise up the vehicle 2.5", and also new custom rear coils that are rated for more weight! That should definitely help fix the problem.
@@LunarLanderXplor Wow Thanks for the answer! It would be cool if you made a video showing us the new kit, and maybe some off road testing of the vehicle! Love from Greece, stay safe!
@@robertoavalosjr.2529 We definitely have! It has great traction, but does not compete with a 4x4 like a 4runner or Jeep Wrangler in terms of approach angle or low-range gear ratios. However, if you are just doing forest roads, desert trails, and avoiding the difficult trails, it is a great vehicle.
Hey! Awesome! Gotta love the RAV4 community. The RAV does great with the rent on top, we barely even notice it up there. The only thing I will say is with the tent & roof rack (almost 200lbs), Dometic fridge & gear in the trunk, the rear suspension definitely sags down a lot. That would be the case with any heavy load in the trunk. We are noticing we lose a few inches of ground clearance in the rear, so we just ordered a lift kit & some stiffer coils to replace the current rear coils. That should fix the problem! All in all the tent is amazing and it has made our RAV4 camping experience so much better.
These are the Falken Wildpeak AT Trail tires that come stock with with TRD version of the RAV4. They are excellent. Great on road, offroad, and in snow. Our MPGs are around 26ish on average but that is because we have the roof tent. We are going to upgrade to larger tires this year, probably the Wildpeak AT3s.
We use Gaia GPS. You can add layers to your map, including public vs private land, land ownership details, etc. Not sure if its the best, but it works for us.
We usually find random spots to camp on public land (national forests, BLM land, etc.) Occasionally we use reserved campsites if we are in popular areas that get full quickly. We definitely prefer the more spontaneous format of finding a campsite while exploring.
great videos but sorry the music is annoying.. much better hearing the sounds of nature and your engine.. i honestly dont know why people think that music on videos is a good thing.. bless up
Better quit that climbing! Just think if you fall and break a leg or arm, imagine the pain you have to go through traveling miles and miles just to get to the nearest medical center. Ouch!
