  • The first couple of days with Loki the kitten meeting my other cats Latte(Bengal), Ash(Russian Blue), and Rosie(Scottish Straight). We saw a posting from a local vet in Korea needing someone to adopt a kitten from the street. After meeting him, it was difficult not to take him in! This is the first couple of days introducing Loki, the kitten!
    Loki adapted very quickly to his new home, only needing about 2-3 days to be comfortable. Adult cats might take up to a week before they fully adapt to the environment. With a few preparations and skills - cat parents can drastically reduce the time they need to adjust and begin to create a long-lasting bond with feline family members. See the full article below for more details!

    Thanks for sharing this! We are introducing a new male cat to our three year old female cat very soon, and our apartment isn't big enough to do the "proper" isolation, and it is so frustrating feeling like I won't be able to do it the right way. I've watched and read everything I can find on cat introductions, but I find that videos like this one, showing the actual process, are really helpful for me right now. I feel like I get some "experience" without being there. Crossing our fingers!

    • @emmasgardennorway
      @emmasgardennorway Рік тому +1

      @@nicolecloutier4923 We did, and unfortunately it went pretty bad. It turned out the male cat wasn't spayed, which we of course should have checked, but we decided to try regardless. He was completely obsessed with our female cat, and she did not like it. It was a chaotic weekend, and luckily the previous owner was able to find him a new home. We are expecting to move to a larger apartment in not too long, so we decided to not take any more chances before that. I think it was a big mistake to try to introduce a cat that hadn't been spayed, so I can't really say if it is the method (when done correctly) that is the problem, though. Good luck if you are planning to do a cat introduction!

    Gosh I’m so jealous, your cats are so chill!! I’m in month 3 of trying to introduce my kitten to my 11 year old resident cat. I’m trying the Jackson Galaxy method but I’m kind of losing hope. I have bought Feliway to give my resident cat a feeling of security. They have been separated for almost 2 months now since my resident cat attacked the kitten (there was no blood but a lot of screaming under the sofa) since then I feel really hesitant to trust my resident cat again. Since that incident we did the “no sight, only smell for 3 weeks” and then move to feeding them together while opening the door slightly but I feel pretty stuck in this step. Seen your video I wonder if I should try again given that my resident cat has not tried anything shady. What do you suggest?
    Really need help because this is really emotionally draining and I don’t want to give up 😮‍💨

      Hey! I am no expert, but I can try to give you a few tips. See if it can help in any way, or at least gide you to some answers. :)
      Firstly, the most important thing - for the older cat - is the chance for it to remove itself from the situation. (As you saw Rosie in the video did.) It is old and probably wants little to do with the new kitten (right now). So make sure it has a place up high to perch and observe.
      Follow that is, let the new cat live free in your house. Let them eat in sight of each other. And play with them equally. Also in sight of each other. Play makes them forget their surroundings, so that is a big push forward. (Play lots with the younger cat to drain energy!)
      Don't force them together. Just entourage progress with treats (or pets?).
      OBS. Hissing and swatting with paw are natural and normal.
      Good luck!
      How is it going now for you guys? ^^

    Hey.. I like your method alot.. because I think cats are sensible creatures.. It's half 3 in the morning and I've been up for 2 hours afraid to go to sleep because of the information I was given from the shelter I adopted my new female kitten.. after watching a few of your introducing videos I went to play with both my cats but my older baby wasn't having it..at first when I brought the female home he was surprisingly very interested in her.. but she kept hissing for him to back off.. eventually he started hissing at her as well.. but I was doing the separation thing and my mind just told me don't bother with that because he's not going to hurt her.. but I was still freaked out by what I was told so I kept her in my bedroom and he stayed outside.. well that was the biggest mistake cuz when I went to use the bathroom.. there he was.. looking all lonely and I remembered he was there before I went to sleep.. he never left the bathroom in all the 3 hours I had been asleep.. so I decided to call him out, he answered me and I took him around the house and then rubbed his head and played with him a bit and he stayed outside.. I decided to leave her with him because I really don't want him to feel uncomfortable or hurt by me creating a barrier between the two of them.. so right now they're both getting acquainted.. haven't heard any growling or anything like that since the play session..so I'm going to sleep now..lol thanks for the video again!!! I don't have a studio apartment but all my doors remain open except for at night when I'm sleeping because any light throws off my sleep, and my roommate sleeps with the light on in the living room, so they're still being monitored to some extent..I need my sleep.. goodnight

    hi, so i have a resident 8month and i just recently adopted another 8month tabby about 2 days ago now and so far i have been doing the traditional introduction. but since i live with my mother and 2 other siblings we dont exactly have the room in our apartment to continue to do the traditional for much longer. considering i don’t have my own room in this apartment and im borrowing my brothers to do separation.
    both cats are sweethearts when alone but just seem to be very territorial off of first eye contact. i didnt like the sight of any growling or hissing whenever they come into sight of eachother so i immediately shut it down whenever it goes left but the more i watch your videos and read comments the more i learn that hissing and growling is not the biggest problem. even though i started off with the traditional method i want to drop it and just try your method of just letting them figure it out with proper guidance and rewarding.
    i do have one question though how do you feel about punishment as in spraying a water bottle at them when they hiss and growl and immediately shutting down the negative staredown as soon as it happens. would you consider starting off the traditional process only to drop it? is that ideal?

      That's quite interesting! My Bengal scratches at my shoulder whenever he wants attention. Does she do it for food or attention is my first question.
      The second thing I might recommend is to completely tire her out before bedtime and give her a large meal after the play session. This might help her just be completely exhausted for the entire night.

    Hello i wanted to ask do you use a barrier to sort of create a safe place for your kitten because i live in a smaller apartment than you just bedroom and bathroom and they attack when ever they see each other so do you have any tips or advice to help my kittens feel safe in my kind of apartment

    • @monsieurtn
      @monsieurtn  4 роки тому +1

      Hi! I do not, I’ve never had any barrier when introducing my kitten or any cat but I do have some sort of place where the kitten can feel safer (such as the carrier he/she came in). When you say attacking, what do you mean? Swatting and hissing OR full on fighting with fur going everywhere? Swatting, hitting and hissing is normal for any introduction and it happens for a few days (depending on the cats).
      I have lived in a smaller apartment with only a bedroom and bathroom similar to yours and have introduced cats the same way. It always begins with batting/hissing at each other, and then as you play with them, have them eat together during meal times, they associate more positive associations. For me, introductions always take less than a week.
      I will do a video more into detail about this in the coming days!

    Bonjour Monsieur! We adopted a 4 yr old neutered cat from the humane society 2weeks ago. He was a stray, shared a room with another cat at the cattery, and that's all we know about his history. He's very vocal and likes to play a lot. He seems to be a confident cat who wanted to explore our 2 bedroom apartment as soon as we got him in the spare. Now, we have a resident female senior cat (she's 14) who's always been a solo cat and has barely been around other animals before. We adopted her 3 years ago and it took us close to 3 years before she actually came out to the sweet cat she is now. She's not as cuddly but she'll sleep in bed with us at night and she'll greet us at our door when we get home from work. Now, she has been hissing and growling at the new cat in town. She's so stressed and is just not her usual self. We are currently trying the traditional way of introducing cats (separating in different rooms, scent swapping, inching the bowls close to the door where the new cat is). We've had good days were there were no hissing from my resident cat but now that they are eating with just the door between them, my resident cat has been constantly hissing during meals. There has been some occasions that accidents happened and the 2 cats met each other. The new cat never hissed or growled during those times. If anything, he did look submissive and terrified of my resident cat who was hissing and growling and not shy to tell him that she's boss. We tried feliway spray but it doesn't seem to do anything. Any tips on how to make this easier on both cats? And honestly, on us too. We're stressed and we feel bad for both of them. Merci!!!

    • @monsieurtn
      @monsieurtn  2 роки тому +1

      Hi! Thanks for your comment! I understand your concern. How long has it been since you've started the process?
      I would say maybe take the food strategy up a notch. I would approach this like this:
      Irresistible meals & more scheduled mealtimes.
      1. Instead of feeding them the regular stuff, try spoiling them both for a week (with a variety of foods, and take note of which one they have the best response to - then just stick to that one). This makes them focus on the food and not each other.
      2. If you usually have 3 mealtimes a day, add one more mealtime 4. The more you do it, the closer and closer the bowls need to get to each other until the hissing stops.
      As a side note, if they're hissing and growling but still eating near each other, that's a good sign. However, if they walk away, then go back a little bit until they're comfortable eating.

Haru seems to not like Hina very much and he started hissing at Hina whereas Hina just seems very much comfortable (but a bit cautious as this is a new environment). Haru would chase Hina sometimes and tries to ambush Hina whenever Hina was not looking. But then Haru still looked scared of Hina sometimes. I really have no idea what to do, as I am also living in a studio apartment. Should I just let Hina and Haru solve this by themselves and let Hina roam free? I am afraid that Haru would ambush her when we are not supervising them.
