another thing i didn’t catch him mentioning, i don’t think, is that pine litter is sooo much cheaper AND it’s eco-friendly. We found a plant-based clumping littler, but like you said it is getting all over the home. If only I could afford a catio I could save a lot of money. Can you help?
Love ur vids, very useful for first time cat owner + living in small apartments like us. I'm curious to know how often do you clean the litter box? Do you throw away the pine litter every few weeks or top them up? Thanks!
Thanks so much! I clean it daily at the end of each day! The great thing about pine litter is that you don’t need to throw away the pine litter completely, because any soiled litter will be sifted down to the bottom of the litter box! So just keep topping it up every time you scoop~
I’ve been using clay clumping and it’s been SUCH a problem. How would you suggest gradually switching to pine? My cats have been using it for clay for a year since I brought them home and won’t use their box even if I just switch brands (but same type of litter) is there a method you used during the transition?

I absolutely love equine pine pellets. Great odor control, very very little tracking, super easy to keep clean, extremely affordable. However, my cat, I noticed, squats on the ledge of the litter box (I have the open, sifting type). Apparently his paws, after two years with this litter, have become sensitive to the pellets. I’ve been experimenting with a sand-textured litter (Sustainably Yours) in another tray. He’s fine walking around, and “using” the litter box. But it tracks like crazy. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Ah I understand! My litter box has more of a lip in the entrance so that they can put their full weight on it and it's okay but yeah I totally understand. I think if I weren't able to use pine pellets, I would go for maybe a smaller type of pellet or sand to try to minimize the tracking but still be okay for my cats. Unfortunately, it might be a trial and error sort of thing until you find the right one :(.

I have a large dog who is potty trained and we recently switched to cat litter because I hated the lawn. Oh god I wish I saw this because I used clay based cat litter and the dog was playing in it, kicked it all over her room and the clay residue won’t come off the floor. Do you have any tips for that? I bought some Arm and Hammer Double Duty Litter Deodorizer Powder (at your suggestion). It has a strong citrus (lemon) scent. Doesn’t that annoy cats? Should I go back to regular baking soda?

Hey just wondering if you had any suggestions. I've always preferred pine litter for the same reason, less tracking! But my cat doesn't always poop in it, he pees in it just fine. Any suggestions? I've tried many litter types and I have the same problem.
Does that mean you have both clumping litter and pine litter available? If a cat pees in it, they'll poo in it. Cats are habitual, so if they're use to pooping in clumping litter - they'll generall prefer that (until the clumping litter starts becoming dirty/smelly). If you have been using the litter box and see that they've been using it (whether to poop or pee) you can remove the different types of litter in your home! You can help them transition a bit easier by adding some sand (or water to soften to pine litter) to the top layer of the pine litter! Hope this helps!
@@monsieurtn Thanks for the quick response. No I don't have different litters out at the same time right now ( I did for about a week to see which one he preferred more and it was the sand based litter) He pood in it perfectly for about 2 weeks then just stopped again. I can't deal with the tracking on those litters anyway so I moved him back to pellets. I have 3 boxes in my home just to make him more comfortable and all are cleaned daily. I have a giant box that I used to sift them daily which I pour the pellets into and sift them around. I adopted him back in January of 2020 and have been struggling with his pooping on the floor problem since. This cat is such a mystery! I do feel so sorry for him though that's why I would never give up on him. His owners moved out of a house and just abandoned him there. He's such a sweet boy with only this one issue that I can't seem to fix.
@@aleshakhan5427 Ah I understand, he actually poops somewhere else (on the floor in this case). Maybe this checklist will help: monsieurtn.com/apartment-litter-box-solutions/#What_to_Do_When_Your_Cats_Eliminate_Outside_the_Litter_Box Actually a long time ago, when I was fostering a cat - something similar happened. I finally solved it through actually rearranging my space and experimenting with different locations, and easier accessible litter boxes. It's definitely frustrating but I think if you approach it in a methodical way, you'll be able to figure out what the problem is. Good luck and I hope things work out!
@@monsieurtn Thank you for the advice. Yep I actually tried moving things around and different spots for his boxes. I guess maybe he just needs more time. Thanks again!
Hello. Thank you so much for your video. I am thinking to switch to pine litter however I worry about pine dust tracking. After cats pee pine terns into dust. Dust can easily spread, I assume it's very light. Thank you.
Hi! That's a good question! After a cat pees actually it doesn't turn to dust immediately - it takes like a good minute or two to completely dissolve - not only that - the cats cover it up before it does. I should really make a video on this! Cause it's quite interesting to show (the dissolving part) This means that minimal tracking actually happens. However, it also depends on how much you scoop and sift. I scoop/sift daily so that the dissolved pine doesn't get a chance to build up too much. Hope this helped! Thanks for your comment!
@@monsieurtn Thank you very much for your reply. So on the time cat pees - the dust won't be tracked, however cat can get back to the litter before a human sifts its. Dose it gets messy then? Thank you
@@PuPup2004 Cats are generally pretty good at avoiding those areas - even if they do step on it, from what I observed it still doesn't get messy. There's a bit of dust outside of the litter box sometimes but very rarely does it go to other places around in my apartment!
The sawdust does eventually track if you leave the litter box for too long without sifting or scooping. However, the tracking isn't noticeable and no where near as much as rolling sand. With regular scooping and sifting, it's not an issue! Thanks for your comment
The litter is like any other pellet litter! It's quite large and doesn't typically have any sharp edges. So it shouldn't hurt the cat's paws! Thanks for your comment.
I just use the local pine litter available here in Korea. I do have a tip that I have been doing recently - I put either used coffee grounds inside the dust container or baking soda after I scoop the litter box. It really helps with the smell!
The pine litter is better than other litters regarding odour control? I'm also living in a small apartment and I afraid to change the litter because of the odour
It’s surprisingly good at odour control! A bit less than sand litter but with some baking soda or arm & hammer scented pet baking soda, the smell is a non-issue!
i use pine pellets but the pee just falls down and stays wet in the bottom and it smells like ammonia. how do i combat that smell and prevent the moisture?
Hi! Thanks for your comment! If you're using a sifting litter box, I put baking soda or coffee grounds at the bottom to absorb the moisture and smell - it really helps!
Thanks for your comment! To help with the smell, I add some baking soda to the pine litter or to the bottom of the sifting pan and it really helps with the odor!
Ah that's too bad! Yes sometimes cats have their own ideas of what they want! When you switched to it, even doing the pine litter transition stuff didn't work?
some of my cats use it and I love it but make sure you pine is fire keeled or it will be harmful to your cats lungs. but some of my cats hate it. so I have both... :(
Have two litter boxes. One with the hood/lid and one without. Introduce the cats with the one with the lid (by putting them in and observe them getting out). Give it a week and watch when they use the litter box. If you see them use the one with the lid a few times then you can remove the open one!
My cat is a diva, she would rather do her business on the floor than on pine litter so I had to go back to clay litter :( I clean the floor almost everyday.
Thanks for your comment! Sorry that happened! Have you tried any tips for transitioning to pine litter? monsieurtn.com/the-complete-guide-to-pine-litter/#How_Do_You_Transition_From_Normal_Litter_to_Pine_Litter
I find the pellets are loud at night when she uses it. She kicks the pellets against the hooded box and they sound like marbles. 😢 Also at times her poop is the same size and color as the pellets making them harder to find. 😢 Then I found this video … ua-cam.com/video/LYgSWfUh_8c/v-deo.html
Hi! That's a valid point! Thanks for sharing. Yes, some cats are going to prefer some litters over others and softer litter types are usually quieter for sure - however, the tracking is a nightmare for the softer/finer ones! So it's gonna be something that all cat owners will have to explore and see which ones have the best balance of tracking, sound, and what your cat likes.
Hi! For kittens - mix both sand litter and pellets together! and Slowly transition them away from sand litter. I show you how to do it in the article: monsieurtn.com/the-complete-guide-to-pine-litter/#Transitioning_to_Pine_Litter_in_Single_Cat_Households

I have a large dog who is potty trained and we recently switched to cat litter because I hated the lawn. Oh god I wish I saw this because I used clay based cat litter and the dog was playing in it, kicked it all over her room and the clay residue won’t come off the floor. Do you have any tips for that? Getting rid of clay litter from the floor?
That's the first time I heard about clay litter getting stuck on the floor! Unfortunately, other than the conventional detergent - I have no idea! I hope you're able to figure it out!
Where can we get the litter box you use?
Hi! The litter box I'm using currently is in the "recommended products" section in the description! Thanks!
@@monsieurtn Thank you!
I bought some Arm and Hammer Double Duty Litter Deodorizer Powder (at your suggestion). It has a strong citrus (lemon) scent. Doesn’t that annoy cats? Should I go back to regular baking soda?
Hi! Use sparingly at first to see the cat’s reaction but it shouldn’t be a problem! I like to use the powder on the bottom tray (where the smell is strongest) as well!
@@monsieurtn thank you! I only put the baking soda in the bottom tray, not the sifting tray, anyway.
What litter box do you have? I love that flipping front feature!
Hi! You can find that here: monsieurtn.com/product-review/recommended-apartment-cat-products/#Pine_Litter_Box_Other_Items_for_the_Litter_Area_That_I_use.
Thanks for your comment!
Thx for the tips !
such a helpful video!!! thank you!
I'm glad it was useful to someone! Thanks for your comment!
What brand litter mat are you using for the pellet litter? I'm in the process of switching to pine pellets, it's definitely less work lol
Hi! How's it going with the pine pellets? The litter mat is here: monsieurtn.com/product-review/recommended-apartment-cat-products/#Pine_Litter_Box_Other_Items_for_the_Litter_Area_That_I_use
@@monsieurtn I appreciate the link, good sir :) I ordered my sifting litter box last Monday and everything will be arriving this coming Friday. Pretty excited to set it all up soon. Can't wait xD
Great video
Maybe this checklist will help: monsieurtn.com/apartment-litter-box-solutions/#What_to_Do_When_Your_Cats_Eliminate_Outside_the_Litter_Box
Actually a long time ago, when I was fostering a cat - something similar happened.
Whats the name of your litter box?
Hi! You should be able to find the litter box in the recommended products section of my website!
I have an Older cat. I have an Open litter box, It has low entrance.
Cause it's quite interesting to show (the dissolving part)
This means that minimal tracking actually happens.
Would the sawdust track?
The sawdust does eventually track if you leave the litter box for too long without sifting or scooping. However, the tracking isn't noticeable and no where near as much as rolling sand. With regular scooping and sifting, it's not an issue! Thanks for your comment
Does Pine litter hurt the Cats pawd
The litter is like any other pellet litter! It's quite large and doesn't typically have any sharp edges. So it shouldn't hurt the cat's paws! Thanks for your comment.
I use okoplast pine litter but it doesn't smell as pleasant. When my cat pee, the pee smell can be very overwhelming. What pine do you use?
If you're using a sifting litter box, I put baking soda or coffee grounds at the bottom to absorb the moisture and smell - it really helps!
pls make more videos!! ❤️
Gotta love our fur babies!🐱
I put a towel under my Kitty's litter box, works wonders.
That's a great idea as well! Thanks for sharing!
Is it true that outdoor cats dig or burry their poop?
Thanks for your comment! Cats are hardwired in general will bury their poop to hide the scent from predators. That's why people use litter boxes!
We use the pine pellet and it’s cheaper too.
I had my cats on pine pellets for a while, it is less messy, however, does not mask the smell, the area where the box is, smells bad.
Thanks for your comment! To help with the smell, I add some baking soda to the pine litter or to the bottom of the sifting pan and it really helps with the odor!
@@monsieurtn Thanks for the suggestion... I will try that if we ever go back to the pine pellets.
Sadly my cats won't use large pellets. I think it bothers their paws. On the plus side it was the cleanest litter I ever threw out
Ah that's too bad! Yes sometimes cats have their own ideas of what they want! When you switched to it, even doing the pine litter transition stuff didn't work?
I tried using pellets, but my cat told me very clearly (by peeing on my bed) that she wants clumping litter...
Where can I get that litter box?
Hi! Thanks for your comment! I use the Purina Hooded Litter Box! amzn.to/2N3mrmR (link to amazon) with my pine pellets!
I loved pine littler but I couldn’t find a covered sifting litter box :(
In my recommended cat supplies section, there should be a hooded litter box for pine litter! Thanks for your comment!
some of my cats use it and I love it but make sure you pine is fire keeled or it will be harmful to your cats lungs. but some of my cats hate it. so I have both... :(
What if cat has never had a lid on litter box?
Have two litter boxes. One with the hood/lid and one without. Introduce the cats with the one with the lid (by putting them in and observe them getting out).
Give it a week and watch when they use the litter box. If you see them use the one with the lid a few times then you can remove the open one!
Also pellets dont smelland they are cheaper and environmentally friendly
Thank you for this video
Btw you are so atttactive 🙈
Thanks for your comment! Nice of you to say!
My cat is a diva, she would rather do her business on the floor than on pine litter so I had to go back to clay litter :( I clean the floor almost everyday.
Thanks for your comment! Sorry that happened! Have you tried any tips for transitioning to pine litter?
monsieurtn.com/the-complete-guide-to-pine-litter/#How_Do_You_Transition_From_Normal_Litter_to_Pine_Litter
It pisses me off all the time when my kitten jumps on my bed with sand paws.
I find the pellets are loud at night when she uses it. She kicks the pellets against the hooded box and they sound like marbles. 😢
Also at times her poop is the same size and color as the pellets making them harder to find. 😢
Then I found this video … ua-cam.com/video/LYgSWfUh_8c/v-deo.html
What robot vacuum is that? 🤨
Respectfully - Scent control / odor control.
Thanks for the suggestion!
The hottest cat daddy
my foster kittens wouldn't burry their poo in pine litter at all :/
If you add some sand/clay litter to the pine litter for the initial period of switching them to pine litter - they'll start to learn to bury it!
Wood pooh.
I have a kitten and she doesn’t like the pallets 😩
Hi! For kittens - mix both sand litter and pellets together! and Slowly transition them away from sand litter. I show you how to do it in the article: monsieurtn.com/the-complete-guide-to-pine-litter/#Transitioning_to_Pine_Litter_in_Single_Cat_Households
