    This is a great guide
    I created a new character in December 2021 and replayed everything in Rhapsodies order and that felt like a good pace
    My only recommendation on top of yours, regardless of play order, would be to consider completing the first 5 Adoulin Missions as soon as they're available to unlock Imprimaturs. If this isn't done, you'll run into a roadblock where you need to let imprimaturs accrue for 4 real life days before you can continue the story. There's plenty of other stuff to do of course, but I was voraciously going through the story and this messed up my flow

      @Zenaltra Great tipp - I will try and keep that in mind. Maybe a follow up question: Does it mean 4 real life days offline as well? Since I will not come to play every day of the week anyway, just positioning it right might then be an alternate "fix" to the "problem", would it not?

    I’ve been trying to 100% every FF game. After a full year and 4 days I’ve started FF11 at last. I don’t intend to truly 100% a MMO, but I do intend on beating the main story and expansions. Played my first 5 hours today, took some getting used to, and I’m still not fully used to it all, but it’s been a fun change of pace compared to the last 10 games and their sequels.

      @@Its_Casprin thanks for the interest btw. Might just be the push I need to get back into things. Taking 1-2 months off isn’t unusual for me, I took a 4 month break after beating FFVII. I get very hyperfixated on the games I play, it’s really hard for me to play more than one game at a time.

    the content you’ve been putting out is amazing man every video is 10/10 i’ve been binging them all. It’s a crazy world where effort and quality doesn’t equal views but i hope u maintain motivation to make more videos. ff11 is obviously one of the most niche topics possible but i think there’s great satisfaction in creating content for underserved communities. it’s something i want to do one day after college for the niche games that i enjoy playing.

      That means a lot to me. I knew FFXI wouldn't be a winner in terms of viewership, but literally none of the expansions have an in-depth review. It's a game I really care about, and this lack of discourse was always something I wish was remedied. After waiting for too long, I decided that I'd be the remedy to this issue lol.

    So I understand that Rhapsodies takes you through the expansions in order, with the exception of Rise of the Zilart? So maybe doing Zilart after Nations and then following Rhapsodies would be a good order?

    • @vicenarian340
      @vicenarian340  6 місяців тому +2

      It actually does take you through RotZ, but it encourages starting the expansion after Wings of the Goddess. They structured it this way for 2 reasons. The first is because WotG does some interesting characterization with some of the RotZ characters. The second is that, RotZ and the Nation missions are pretty rough in terms of story. They want players to 'get to the good stuff' faster.
      That having bees said, I personally think you get the most out of the story if you play in the order you mentioned, or perhaps playing RotZ right before starting Chains of Promathia. If you have any other questions about the game, please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks for reaching out!

      Thank you! I try to include as few spoilers as possible in my videos, but some of the footage is from late expansion missions. So watch them at your own risk lol.
      FFXI and FFXIV for that matter, can be seen as a collection of games in the main line FF series rather than single entries. It's not a good idea to do a video on each though because most FF fans aren't as interested in MMO expansions as the offline entries (and I can agree. I'm rather excited for your FF12 video). It's tough to recommend a stopping point because stopping at RotZ is very different from stopping at WotG, and so on. But listening to your other videos, I'm sure that you'll have interesting insights wherever you choose to stop.
      I'm really looking forward to your FF8 video by the way.

No matter how you go about the expansions the #1 thing to get done IMO is getting your Crystal warps, it will make the back and forth with a lot of the missions SO much more bearable. I’ve been trying to get my ff14 friends on this game and sharing these videos are helping a bit. It’s just rough to sell them the old game that has so many barriers of entry without them losing patience. Videos like this do help make it MUCH clearer, thank you 😊.

    I’m more of a story guy for sure. Will certainly go with ROV order with your advices. Do you recommend strictly following the BG 1-119 Guide or is there some parts where it « rush » to much and that aren’t really fitting with a story focus playthrough ?

      The 1-119 guide does rush people too much. I'd follow that guide for the most part, but do artifact quests after hitting max level.
      As far as the story, once you hit lvl 99, do the story at your own pace. No need to follow the guide too closely.

    Three questions:
    *In case I choose to not do RoV first, is it actually possible to finish the story with only 3 trusts?
    *I don't see nation missions 6-10 on your list.. Where would you suggest doing them?
    *Why is Zilart listed so late? Doesn't it actually happen before chains?
    Thanks!

    • @vicenarian340
      @vicenarian340  8 місяців тому

      1. It is, albeit very difficult. You have to be really well geared for three or four bosses towards the end. You have two options here: 1) Ask for help. This is very easy to do. A ton of FFXI players like helping people, and there are only a couple bosses that pose this much of a challenge. 2) Upgrade gear and grind. This may take a bit, but I believe certain equipment you can get relatively easily might allow you to win these fights.
      2. I would hit rank 10 instead of rank six, like it's listed on the table at 3:54.
      3. Zilart and Chains focus on two different events. So while it makes more sense to play Zilart before Chains, they are written to be enjoyed both ways without feeling strange or jaring.

    This is just great - well done! While not tackling the questions I had when going into the video I actually found it more helpful than other sources I found searching for answers to more specific questions regarding races and jobs and I am definitely going to check out more of your videos at a time! Also thumb is up high for including other sources! One question related to the video: I am going to tackle FF XI as a story player first an foremost and the estimation for playtime does include levelling up to max level - if I understood you correctly. This raises the question for me: How necessary will level grinding be and how much time outside of the stories can I expect to invest into grinding? Also, is it feasible to concentrate on like two jobs and go through fine while having fun or would levelling a wider array of jobs be necessary?

    • @vicenarian340
      @vicenarian340  5 місяців тому +1

      I'm glad to hear you found the video helpful! Here are some answers to your questions:
      1. The amount of time level grinding is different for each job, and the order you play through the story. Assuming you're tackling it in the Rov method, it will likely take about 25 - 30 hours. This would be taking one job to lvl. 99, and taking another job to lvl. 50 for your sub job + the limit break quests. Depending on how fast you learn skill chaining, magic bursting, and what exp gear you get, this time can be dramatically shortened, or lengthened by a bit. After lvl. 80, the remaining levels take much longer, but can also be broken up between the early expansions.
      2. You can beat the game with any job, so long as you have a good sub job picked for it. So you may only focus on 2 jobs if you'd like. I only got one job to max level by the time I beat the main story. I leveled a second sub job, just because I found it more fun, but I don't think that's was necessary.
      A lot of people claim that Rhapsodies of Vana'diel isn't beatable solo for beginners, but I soloed it with starter max level gear that's can be bought off NPCs. So, the difficulty of the game shouldn't be too much of a concern.
      If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

      @BragiTales 5 місяців тому

      Hello @@vicenarian340 , thank you for the answers - very helpful. Although not all of the terms ring a bell yet, I am sure that will come while playing.
      I always had trying out FFXI in my mind but am predominately a single player. And it is, for me as a storyplayer, exactly like you say in another of your videos: The story of XI is complete. Compared to the still ongoing XIV this is a huge advantage for me, who shies away from incomplete stories. For example for years I am waiting for the Legend of Heroes games or the Monstress Comics to near conclusion so that I can start.
      For XI I am, at the moment, preparing to be informed enough (spoilerfree) to streamline the experience to a degree I can get the most enjoyment out of it. Your RoV-Flowchart was exactly the kind of guideline I did not know I needed before clicking on your video and indeed you assume right: That will be the one I am going for. Thanks again!
      As for further questions I thinks I want to take your offer but rather formulate a few thoughts of mine, that I would be happy to receive comments upon: So I think my basic idea stands, that I'd like to play as an Elvaan from San d'Oria. For Jobs I am leaning towards going with the race strength and opting for either Warrior (fav.) or Monk (not sure). However I am very uncertain whether or not I am getting myself into a gameplay-corner with neglecting magic and have Red Mage in the back of my mind as well. However, it seems that going physical would serve my approach to the game just right. For a second class I am favouring Samurai at the moment but am also pondering Paladin (for a tad bit of white magic) or Dragoon (for bonus ally) and then later I intend going for whatever second job as the primary job. I can however find few concrete information on which Jobs go together well at the moment. Would you have an Idea regarding these? And then for Quests, apart from the main Missions, I am thinking that Unity- (for NPC-Allies), of course the Secondary-Job-one and those Limit-Break-Sidequests would be important for smooth progression. I do not yet know whether there are equipment-quests among those, for special weapons, armor or whatnot - or whether you get sufficient equipment on the road anyway. Miscellaneous Sidequests could be done if levelling is needed. Apparently I also would have to repeat some Missions to increase nation-rank or sell crystals. Would selling crystals be advisable though or are they for better use somewhere else? For my personal immersions sake I am also thinking about doing just one Nations Storyline since I read those are taking place at the same time from different perspectives and, while you can experience them all, that also includes “impossible” time travelling and NPC-Amnesia. Lastly, for smooth progression, I believe that I will find those walkthroughs you linked very helpful as well, since they only tell you where to go and not what happens. So that is as far as I go at the moment. Does that sound like a plan or am I walking right into some traps right there? Thank you!

    I just started playing this last weekend, I had actually bought the game back in the early 2000s and met with some pretty rough times. I ended up throwing in the towel after about a month, I just couldn't get into it and I ended up dying a lot due to my inexperience. I was frustrated and the unfriendly atmosphere with other players left me feeling like I'd wasted my money. I like the changes they've made, the modern version is much more newbie friendly, especially for someone like me who can rarely play regularly. Trusts are great, I'm currently working on building a trust party and looking forward to getting deeper into the game this go around.

    If I'm playing through with a group of friends, are the RoV rewards still necessary or would it be better to go in release order? We're primarily playing for story but don't want to be so overpowered that we trivialize encounters.

    • @vicenarian340
      @vicenarian340  2 місяці тому

      If you've got a group as committed as you to grind it out and play through the story together, I'd absolutely play in release order. The RoV rewards would still make grinding much faster, but if you can enjoy doing that with a group, than that won't matter as much.
      While the RoV rewards won't make you overpowered, over leveling will. I would get to level 80-85 for the base game, and stay there till WotG. Then go to lvl 99 with some ilvl 119 gear for Adoulin and beyond. Hope this helps! If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.

    Just to clarify on doing Rhapsodies order, if I let Rhapsodies take me to an expansion, finish it, then move on to the next Rhapsodies quests, will I lose out on bonus rewards like reduced teleport costs by temporarily putting Rhapsodies on hold?

      You won't lose out on it forever, only for the duration that you put Rhapsodies off. In my experience however, the most important Rhapsodies reward comes before you start any of the expansions.
      This is still a trade off though. If you are primarily playing for story, this trade off is worth it for me. If you want to get to end game, then it may not be for you.

    • @vicenarian340
      @vicenarian340  12 днів тому

      @@RainbowPowerRangerX I would recommend finishing just one nation storyline rather than all 3. Getting through all 3 can be quite the commitment, especially because all of newer story content is so much better.
      I would also recommend finishing Rank 9, but only if you're enjoying it. Many of the future expansions make interesting references to the nation missions (Rank 6-Rank9). But, if you find the Nation missions dull, then feel free to move on after Rank 6.

    Would you suggest Horizon at all? It is a bit embarrassing to admit but a major reason I want to play is the upcoming Raid in FF14 and playing through Eureka. Though I'm a bit worried about it not having all the content plus the idea of changing things. Nothing against them but i rather play something as is warts and all. So I'm at a bit of a cross roads here. Sorry for rambling any insight from anyone would be appreciated!

    • @vicenarian340
      @vicenarian340  4 місяці тому +2

      There is nothing at all embarrassing about that, FFXIV is a great game and it does a great job at highlighting the other games in the series.
      As far as the missing content, FFXI's main story consists of the base game and six expansions. This would be the equivalent to FFXI's version of the Hydaelyn-Zodiark narrative. HorizonXI only has the base game and the first 2 expansions, a fraction of that content. They are the most popular expansions, so this might be all you need for the upcoming raid. But there is a lot of great FF currently missing from HorizonXI.
      As for playing the way the game was, I still think finding some friends to play through retail would be your best bet. Horizon is a phenomenal private server and a Final Fantasy treasure. I am a huge fan of what it's doing and trying to preserve. But Eureka doesn't capture the significantly slower pace, and the incredibly punishing nature of classic FFXI. I've talked to dozens of FFXIV players who grossly underestimated Classic FFXI's is inaccessibility, and finding lower leveled players to play with on Horizon has been a common struggle. Many of these same players have quit Horizon to start Retail after sinking well over a hundred hours without getting to see any of the good story content.
      tl;dr - If you are acutely aware of how brutal classic FFXI is structured, and you're fine not seeing the whole story to its conclusion, Horizon is definitely the way to go. If you are interested in the story or don't know too much about classic FFXI's brutality, Retail will definitely be preferable.

      Release Order:
      -PROS-
      As I mentioned in the video, there are a lot of small things you can appreciate about the game's story when played this way. Definitely the best way if you're a story purist.
      -CONS-
      1. It takes about 20 hours longer to get to max level.
      2. The epilogue bosses in WotG and some of the SoA bosses are pretty tough with only 3 trusts (NPC party members). You unlock more trusts as you finish the rhapsodies missions, so you’ll be stuck with only 3 trusts for the first 5 expansions. Everything before the WotG epilogue is a cake walk at lvl 99 though, so you’ll still be able to enjoy most stories without any issues at all.
      It is important to note that Rhapsodies was designed to weave all of the stories together, and it does a decent job of that. Playing through the RoV order does not at all feel disjointed. If you don’t have a lot of free time, this is definitely the way to go. The small story bonuses you’ll pick up on playing in release order might not be worth the extra 20 hours of grinding. But if you do have the time, go with the release order all the way.
      I do want to reiterate something about FFXI. It is really inaccessible to new players. If you really want to play through it, be prepared to be absolutely lost for the first couple hours. But, if you stick it out, you’ll be able to enjoy all of the things I’ve talked about in my reviews.
      I hope this helps and good luck. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask!

    This game should not require a “how to get pass login screen” manual video neither all the interface gymnastics to simply make it playable to mortal human beings. I bought it around the same time FF14 1.0 release and and as much as I want to play it I find myself hitting a brick wall with my head each time I try. It’s almost comedic that 20 years was not enough to rework the basic UI and client issues this game suffers from. It’s embarrassing and very disappointing. Thanks for the video, maybe will come in handy

      You're welcome. This unintuitive design was ubiquitous back in the early days of MMOs. Given FFXI is actually a PS2 game, the devs have talked about how difficult it would be to change certain things like the UI or PlayOnline. Thankfully, once you get used to the UI, you never really think about it anymore.

      Yeah, and boy am I glad I did. I really enjoyed the base game. Despite some flaws, I thought it had done some things masterfully. People kept telling me that the game got so much better after the first expansion, and they were certainly right.
      I'm not subbed full time though, only for the months that work permits. I have some big work things coming up around New Years, and I thought I'd try to make reviews for all of the expansions before then.

      FFXI's story is really something special, but you're aversion to subs is completely understandable. The game gives out several free weeks every year, and you could play the whole game story for free if you're patient. Just thought I'd give a heads up.

    Im still trying to figure out my plan for XI. Ive been playing through the mainline final fantasy games in order and im currently on VIII. I want to play through the story of 11, but the gameplay looks like itd turn me off and 250 - 300 hours is quite a time investment. Im not sure if i actually wanna play it, or just go for a story recap on youtube.
    Also i know theres a free trial. Do i need to buy the game first to access that or can i avoid buying until the free trial expires?

    • @vicenarian340
      @vicenarian340  9 місяців тому +1

      It does have a free trial, but it's worse than buying the game. It looks you out of all the fastest leveling methods, and it gives you the most underdeveloped portion of the story for 2 weeks. You also get a free month after buying the game, and it goes on sale a few times a year.
      While I have a hard time telling people not to play this game, it might be best for your playthrough to skip it, and come back another time if you're still interested in the story. The entire singleplayer mainline FF series takes about 550 hours to beat (without 100% all the games). FFXI and FFXIV's stories combined are also about 550 hours. While you may consider playing the base game of both, including the MMOs and all their expansions completely changes what an FF playthrough is.
      Keep in mind, this is coming from one of the biggest FF MMO fans there is. I'm not at all trashing on the games, they are probably the best in the series. But if you want to enjoy them, it's worth giving them their own dedicated playthrough.

      I've heard plenty of people voice this concern, but I don't think it's relevant. I only experienced this with CoP, and it was perhaps a 5 minute cutscene. Rewatching a five minute cutscene when you start CoP wasn't really that big of a deal for me, but I'm surprised at how many people this really bothers.

      @vicenarian340  8 місяців тому

      @@paddy1144 I see what you're saying. But ACP, AMKD, and ASA aren't integral to the overarching RoV story, and can be played at any point without benefit or detriment to the player experience, which isn't entirely true for the actual expansions. I wasn't aware that you could accidentally trigger RotZ, especially due to the fact that it requires Rank 6 if I'm not mistaken. That leaves CoP, which I've already conceded.
