It's so beautiful there and it's cool to watch what you can do with your 890 . It would be a literal dream to ride with you but I couldn't keep up lol . Thank you very much for making videos and just being overall positive and kind
Hi Chris, amazing drive and beautiful footage! I much enjoyed it and it inspires me to drive also offroad coming spring/summer on my 790R. Thanks and greeting from The Netherlands.
I particularly appreciate the drone segments of your videos, as they complement the descriptions and demonstrations in your instructional videos of the body position and body movement techniques. Watching the application of the techniques across a variety of terrain and surface conditions is very helpful in understanding how the position/movement contributes to keeping the bike stable. Thanks for providing these videos.
What a ride... Those 4x4 trails in the 2nd spot are pretty gnarly... I wonder if Martin would ever consider doing a big bike class at the Romaniacs. Very fortunate to have such a great playground to put that bike through its paces.
I wish there had been drone footage of Chris navigating the gulley with the dirt bikes. His effortless, relaxed riding style (talent) doesn't come out in the first person footage nearly as well.
Chris, always admired the skills and advice and experience you enjoy to impart and help riders. I have an old WR450 I take on adventures around CQ Australia. Hadnt really though suspension would make much difference for someone at my level. I don't ride nearly as fast as you so would having a new suspension set up change the way I ride with speed or is it more about comfort because there is a difference when your as old as me 🙂
Thanks for replying Chris. Really appreciated. For me being totally amateur Its one of those things that we don't appreciate. I was raised on "borrowed" bikes back in the UK when Iwas young so give me a machine and ill ride it because I've no money to pay for even a licence. (UK police please note I did become a forensic nurse and atoned for my borrowing sins thanks to a change in lives direction). Tyres I hear you mention..... Please advise me Chris. For my WR450F.. I ride to most off road courses/trails.. 60/40 or 70/30 and which tyre would you say has saved your bacon (assuming your not jewish, but then apologising for any any jewish sensibilities and Muslim issues that comment may raise) Its a figure of old speech and being in Australia, I have to acknowledge the custodians blah blah, and other people that comment might offend but honestly, Ive lived a tough and hard life so bill me. Ive no money.
I love my new 890 Adv R but I don’t love the suspension. I’ve got a lot of work ahead of me to try and set it up for fast trail riding here in Southern California. Awesome video Chris!
@@bertbroeder1832 Bert stock suspension is way too soft for me. I’m 215 without gear so with your probably closer till like 245 to 250. I like to ride more difficult trails not just fire roads. When you’re going at speed and you hit obstacles, loops, etc. the bike is blowing through the travel and bottoming out a lot so it’s holding me back based on how I like to ride which is more aggressively. I feel the bike is also very imbalanced between the front and rear suspension and I can’t get enough compression dialed in to the front however, the rear suspension kicks up extremely badly so it needs a lot of rebound damping. Not complaining just telling the truth, the bike is not set up for somebody my size and weight with my writing style.
Birchy thats the same place you where when you did the video when it was pissing down and bogged.looks different when it’s dry with deep ruts.👍👍 BirchyWA
Rally Mode/Steet Throttle/Off-Road ABS and TC 1. I must say I need to give street throttle a try offroad, never thought about it.. Amazed the drone followed too! Is its name Chris Birtch Jr ? :)
Congratulations, in your hands it looks like a dirt bike and not a mid-size adventure bike. When are you going to come to the North of Chile?, in South-America, to enjoy a great desert full of high rocky hills, long distances of dirt and sand, a paradise to practice on adventure bikes and on dirt bikes, (I suggest to bring both).
Awesome trails Chris You ride that 890 like a 250 lol some of those ruts were mean but you just float through them. I would have had to pick my 790 up 10 times 🤣
Surely I'm not a pro rider but I have driven a lot. This motorcycle doing the job incredible well. I can see it even in this video. Big surprise for me. 200Kg plus, looks like KTM is doing a very good job here. Thank you for this video. Need a test ride now. Some guys here owning this KTM and can tell experiences? No more Kick Thirdy Minutes (I know it has electric start, thank you)?
Gnarly ruts and tire-shredding rocks. It would take me about 10 runs through that track before I'd feel comfortable not duck-walking the harder sections. Holy cow.
My kneecap was hurting just from the thought of whacking a couple of those trees. I'm sure it was just the camera angle, but dang that looked close a couple times.
Hey, have you had any issues with the traction control? My wife and I both ride the 2023 890 Adv R and when in Rally mode with Off-road ABS and off-road throttle occasionally we get a "Traction control" advisory and it kicks the bike into street ABS. The only way we can get it back into Off-road ABS is to turn the bike off for a couple min to reset things then it lets me get back into Off-road mode.
It's WP Pro component's set up by Solid Performance in America. I filmed a description of it with my new camera but I'm too much of a muppet to download the footage!
Hey Chris, just wondering why you chose to go with suspension from Solid Performance in America vs a local WP Dealer? Is there somthing that Solid Performace do better with setup?
@@ChrisBirchNZ I have managed to find the solution to the wind noise with my GoPro Hero 9/10's, i does mean slightly more hardware on the helmet with the audio adapter but nice to have really clear audio without the wind noise. If you want to know what it is happy to share as I made a few mistakes along the way
@@ChrisBirchNZ Thanks. And what do you think about it? Does in do the job off road? Or smaller gravel roads are still not visible and there is no better way than mobile phone and setting up trips manually? asking as i am thinking of buying it.
Awesome video. Imagine being the guy that's paddling your dirt bike through a tricky section and Chris comes blowing by you on the 890.
don't be that guy - stand up and twist it
He probably had the same verbal reaction as the Mayor of Hiroshima.
Been there. Got smoked by a dude in a checked shirt and gumboots on an AG bike in an Enduro race. Probably more demoralising than Birchy coming past.
Thought it was speed up like 1,3x.
But when the part with the drirt bikes came, I realized again, how talented he is!
Loud is something different than fast, he teached them, good teacher!
Glad to see you Chris in new 2023 year. Thanks for the new video! 🎉

Beautiful drive, beautiful roads, beautiful bike 🔝
Chris, could U, please, make a video how You set up a suspension? That would be very helpful for a lot for riders. Tnx 👌🏻

Makes it look so simple like riding on tarmack instead of rough trails. Incredible skills!!
Pretty impressive, Birchy! But what I really want to see, is you passing those dirt bikers in the ruts on a Honda Goldwing. If anyone can do it...
Have you got a gold wing I could borrow for na afternoon?
That was some amazing riding at the end. Thank you for the video.
Thank you!
You guys are trully blessed with adventureland at a stone's throw away 👌
That's why we moved here!

Just picked up my 2023 890 two weeks ago. Now I hope to learn how to ride it like you.:)

Having the suspension serviced with fresh oil/seals and the correct springs rates is probably all you need.

Curious do you regularly do any fitness and/or cardio exercise routines to stay in shape? Is this suspension setup better than 890 r rally?
Hi, Great Video. Just wondered what settings you are using. Presume off Road Mode, any traction Control?
Rally mode with off road ABS. Street throttle response
I love the fact that your bike is quiet even though you have a pipe on it. Noise beats you up.
I agree, I don't want my bike to annoy other people either.

Yes there is an update you need to do. If you contact your dealer they will do it for you FOC. It takes about an hour.
What’s that windshield bag? Looks very practical. Haven’t seen anything like that? Great vids as always.
It's a Kriega harness pouch. Works a treat.
