I was born and raised in Boston and I moved to Indianapolis and people here don't understand how to celebrate July 4th Independence Day like they do in Boston I miss it
I kept saying to the cameraman (after it happened of course) "move your camera LEFT, show the soloists stage RIGHT! Don't you realize this is the Piccolo solo?!!!!" It's not easy to take a good video.
I wait for that part EVERY time I watch this song being performed . . and also listen for them at the very end, when ALL instruments are playing, you can still hear the smallest ones !!
Seeing the Pops on the Fourth of July is a trip. If you're a patriotic American, you need to do it at least once. These guys know how to put on an Independence Day show!
So exciting!! Very nicely performed . Sousa would be so proud to hear his piece perfectly performed by the entire orchestra, which includes the strings, fireworks and the cheers by his fellow Americans in the audience. Just think of it. John Philip Sousa would be extremely proud and honored to be an American, born and raised.
July 4, 2021: BLOOMBERG TV, 8PM - 11PM, Eastern US Time. I don't know where you live, but in the NYC/Westchester/Long Island region, that's Channel 105. This year, the Pops will broadcast live AND livestream -- in case you can't get it on TV -- from Tanglewood. I hope you can watch it! :)

It begins at the 1:03 mark. Hurrah for the flag of the free! May it wave as our standard forever, the gem of the land and the sea, the banner of the right. Let despots remember the day when our fathers with mighty endeavor proclaimed as they marched to the fray that by their might and by their right it waves forever!
The 3rd of July is their free "dress rehearsal" performance. It's all the same concert, don't have to get there early (usually getting there 2-4 hours early is sufficient) and a little more laid back. People bring lawn chairs, blankets, picnic and play board games. Extremely strong security measures but so much fun and a good time. The actual 4th of July you have to get there super early. Usually 10 or more hours. The place is locked down like an army base and is a live televised performance.
