- A thorough comparison of every nano-sized Klon Centaur clone I could find. The classic mythical overdrive in a much, much smaller package.
Thanks to Guillem at Decibelics Pedalboutique in Barcelona for the loan of the Decibelics Golden Horse. I had it for AGES, and he didn't complain once. www.decibelics.com Here's the video where he compares it to the original 2001 Klon Centaur that all his pedals are based on: • The best Klon Centaur ...

I’ve always wished that pedal and amp demos would use a looper. That removes any bias that the player may have for a certain option.
I agree 100%
I think it depends on the demo. If it’s like here, where you’re comparing very similar pedals to each other, then a looper is perfect to highlight the subtleties.
I agree. Now where do you stand on the tessellation of Roald Dahl books?
It is great for these kinds of clone demos, but the thing is a pedal can change the feel and make you play a little different. So for more varied selection of pedals it can actually be less fair than a human player who is trying to make most of each pedal.
Yes. And 99 percent of klon demos. Bang chords. That’s not what klon is best at. It s best at fatting up weak leads. Bluesy.
All brands copying Klon: gold, yellow, silver, black with gold or yellow
MXR: ....BLUE....
Just wanna say I watch about 6 different pedal channels and this one is leagues above the rest, keep up the badassery!
That's a great compliment - thank you!
Totally agree! Best way of commenting and testing I ever saw on UA-cam! At least for now.
Best by far. Sick of the inane ramblings others seem to be happy to put out. This setup looks simple but I know it takes a lot of knowledge, planning and work at every level to make it this slick. Bravo!
@@MrTommyfellows I do have to do them quite a few times before I get the whole way through without screwing it up :)
honestly i love this channel, the loops you use are amazing and the fact you use them at all is a rarity among pedal channels (which is a huge surprise)
I think you're demos are some of the best out there. Love this channel dog!!
My OCD thanks you for your judicious cable management.
These videos are so good, it makes me very sad that the channel appears to have stopped posting, wherever the creator is, I wish them well
Thanks! The pandemic put me on hiatus. I do plan to get back to it. Just not sure when…
Great demo. These are the best pedal comparisons on UA-cam. Please come back and make more!
Fantastic format for comparing pedals, love your channel
Almost got cocked wah sounding at the end, which was brill. Love this format and your fastidious nature in coaxing all of the tones it off the pedals. Kudos to you
Once again, I'm just here for the loop. Once again, it did not disappoint
Aw shucks, that's very nice to hear.
Hands down the best demo videos i have ever seen in youtube.
I love this demo for originality and fun. It has helped my search for a klon clone and was entertaining. Thumbs up. Subscribed!
Excellent!
This awesome format of demoing would could be potantialy the best way to check the diiferences between Tube Screamer, Klon, Blues Breaker, Zendrive and OCD type of OD's, i would personally add a BB Preamp in the mix because im interested in it since Andy Timmons uses it for a tube screamery kind of tone.
Yes - I've thought about that... Doing a 'Six Classic Overdrives' comparison - OCD, Timmy, Blues Breaker, Klon, TS, Zendrive/Dumble. But That Pedal Show did a pretty good one already (though not directly comparing them with a looper, of course).
@@ThePedalBored i love Dan & Mick and i've seen that video many times, but straight comparison on one guitar, one amp, and with the looper is something different.
@@lucaszembrzuski I vote with Lucas. I love That Pedal Show, but I could really go for the Six Classic Overdrives in your format, as well as Classic Distortions. Your videos do help me immensely, because I have no really good music store to A/B pedals.
@@mtrooze I also vote with Lucas.
LucasZembrzuski to make it PERFECT, he may use a looper to activate each pedal, I don’t know if a buffer at the very beginning would help to retain all the signal through the chain to optimize the whole performance.
Best pedal demo channel I've seen yet. Thanks for posting.
The pedal board demos/comparisons are very, very helpful. Thank you. And I love the books.

@@larryn2682 Thanks. Where were you three years ago when I needed you?
Appreciate the straightforward method of demonstration AND your own evaluative comments.
Great vid again. That looped track is so catchy aswell.
Thank you!
Brilliant. I like your sense of humor. Great noise in the end of the video! Yep, I watched it to the very end.
And, regardless of this demo, I bought Tumnus.
Subscribed.
Great video. Effective comparison, good observations, and informative. Well done.
At the end it's like I on the road, trying to tune to a radio station and some smaller but closer station is getting in the way. Neat.
Dude, you are awesome. I love just about everything you do in these videos. Thank you!
This is the channel of my dreams. Thank you for creating the best pedal comparison demos. The manufacturers MUST pay you for those honest reviews. When demos like this are biased towards some companies (such as when the player obviously picks harder and more carefully when demonstrating the "more expensive" equipment), it seems like mocking the customers and doing this only destroys the will to buy those products. And products seem like they have "nothing to hide" when the comparison demos are objective. Because your demos show for what differences we are paying more/less.
Can you please make a series of videos where common dirt pedals or their clones (such as ocd, ts, muff, rat etc.) stacked with each other? Because the usual case is to stack them for screaming solos or chunky, edgy rhythm tones.
Ha! I would love it if they paid me, but I don't think that's every going to happen. :)
Gain-stacking is a thing I'm only recently beginning to get a handle on, and since there are SO MANY drive pedals on the market, it's hard to pick the definitive combos. (The one that's really interesting me at the moment is the DOD 250 Preamp, and running different drive pedals into that.)
PB I hope you will eventually come back with more comparisons. As so many have already said; your format really is amazing. I would say it’s the best.
Thank you! Soon hopefully. There’s a massive construction site next to my home currently and where I record isn’t soundproof. But when the nail guns stop the comparison videos will return!
This was like a ballet of switching pedals 👏
Ha! This is how I shall describe all my videos from now on...
Your demos are my favourite, keep up the good work! You using the Boss Katana also gives me the most accurate reference for my gear, so that's a plus. Also, your videography and the set with the books and the wooden floor looks unique in a great way!
Thank you!
Love love love these vids. Best way to judge pedals...and love the loops.
You made the best pedal comparison videos. I’ve seen others try to imitate your approach but none come close.
Fascinated to see the imitators! :)
One of the greatest comparison ever seen. Thanks~~~~
This demo rocked, especially with the looper providing consistent input. I love the pedals I use now but I have this fantasy of a really portable nano-pedal board for gigs.
I've never fallen into the Klon hype, but that MXR sounded awesome and it's almost $100 less than the Decibelics. If I had to choose I'd definitely go for that one. Great video!
Thanks!
Good for you...I sold mine for 6 times what I paid for it No regrets
@Drew Pierce Yes the true test for a mostly always on pedal...The Xotic Super Clean boost is really good for that as well and you can really tailor the sound and run 18 V if you want Im using that an an old Rangemaster clone....
All on at once was hilarious. Awesome demo man!
This video is EXACTLY what I needed. Thank you.
This should be how all pedal comparisons are done. Thank you!
Thanks!
Thanks for the thorough comparisons. The mosky gold was my first dirt pedal. It was definitely a great introduction to drive and I still enjoy it. But now I need to find a pedal that can do that awesome pseudo-synth sound you pulled at the end. 🤘🏼
Or 8 pedals...
So i received my "Muslady Golden Horse" a couple of weeks ago. I fell in love immediately. That's the cheapest pedal i have ever owned and it's the only one along with a tube-screamer like that i would never want to do without.
It just makes everything sounds better: clean, drives, chords, riffs, high gain.
I didn't understand Why people use it as a clean boost. Well i do now. It's where it really shines, it's like magic.
I originally wanted an Archer but it's 11 times the price....
The loud mode on the Silver Mosky is 2xLEDs, quieter mode 2xGe, same as the Gold.
Awesome demo as usual! Your method is truly the best way to evaluate similar types of pedals. I literally laughed out loud when I read, "Christ, is loud!", so thank you for that.
Ha! Thank you.
Thanks for doing this video. Great rundown.
Great comparison - the Decibelics Golden Horse is still my favourite in this area
Nice to hear - it's a LOVELY pedal. Like a tiny work of art.
@@ThePedalBored I know this well - I am very familiar with Guillaume's meticulous work and was fortunate to have collaborated with him to some small degree on his recent Angry Swede pedal which is equally adept in its own category. His pedals are Fabergé jewels in the mini category in particular - and sound just as good as they look.
Ah! I thought your name sounded familiar! He's offered me one to try out in a similar way - but high gain isn't really my world. Maybe one day!
@@ThePedalBored Ha ha - totally understandable
Good work. Thanks for doing this!
This is a fantastic demo. Very illuminating and instructive.
Thanks!
I took a chance buying the mosky golden horse. At the price, I figured why not? I was pleasantly surprised how good it was compared to the other higher end pedals on my board. Today I did a recording session where my rhythm tone was the mosky (output and tone at 1 o'clock and tone at 11 o'clock) for versedls & pushed by an xotic ep booster at minimal setting for choruses. For solos, I used the mosky pushing a revv G2. It's a fantastic little pedal. Even better since it's so affordable.
Love these true side by side comparisons, I get the impression you have spent a lot of time getting the aesthetics just right too, I mean look at the way the cables are beautifully arranged. That's no accident.
Great stuff, I have a Mosky Golden Horse that I bought as a stop gap for a while but on hearing it against some others it really does look like a bargain. That said if I could justify it, I'd have a Tumnus.
Again. Great stuff and please keep the bids coming.
Thank you! And yes, I spend a little too much time on how it looks... Was still annoyed you could see some of the white putty holding the power cables down... :)
Had you not mentioned it, I wouldn’t have noticed. I’d say the Xotic RC Booster kicks all of their collective arses.
All great pedals, but the coolest one is the NUX horseman. From the graphics, to the knobs, a silver mode and true/buffered bypass.
We might have different preferences which horse 🐴 is better but there is no debate that this channel is the G.O.A.T. 🐐!!!
Good price point too. I would go Bad Horse for a really budget option rather than the Moskys. +shipping it comes to the same as the NUX for me though.
Alas I ended up ordering some other chinese-made Klon lookalike on eBay for $75, no clue what circuit is like but we'll see. If it sounds bad I might buy a NUX or Bad Horse and port the internals if I can be bothered. Like you said NUX looks good as-is.
No forever pedals, even change tuners. Love the review, thanks. Got their Spring Reverb on the merits of the GH.
wow, nice one! decibelics golden horse is the absolute best pedal in the video, don't get me wrong. but mosky golden horse being almost 1000% cheaper (not being hyperbolic) than the decibelics, it is the number one top winner in this comparison, even with it's downsides (louder noise floor/less headroom). thanks for the video, amazing!
The Moskey does not last. Mine died in a few months. You get what you pay for with cheap components.
had my moskey for quite awhile. components don't seem cheap. buy 10 new moskeys or one used decibelics.
@@CMHobbies They're good if you know how to solder.
Perfect video! Love it! Really surprise about the MXR, seems it will my first MXR on my board! :)
Glad to help!
Wish I'd found your channel sooner. These are perfect comparison videos
Thank you!
Such a phenomenal channel
This vid makes me feel better about having spent the ridiculous money on a Decibelics - thanks :)
Another awesome video, brother!
As expected, the Decibelics is ace as it’s a true “clone” in every way.
But for return on investment, I still think the Mosky Golden Horse is solid at $18.
I really like the Tone City Mad Horse too, although it’s more of a stand alone distortion pedal than a Klon knock off in my opinion.
I like a lot of the pedals from that Tone City series, especially the Sweet Cream (which is a Mad Professor Sweet Honey clone), the Tape Machine (which is a Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay clone), and the Summer Orange (which is an MXR Phase 90 clone).
Awesome comparison thanks!
great format very helpful!
Always enjoy your loops, and the character they develop as you walk through effects. Bottom line, any of these units would work to give you the Klon sounds. I agree with your final assessment.
Especially when it comes to a band or studio mix situation. Almost never using these things in isolation unless you're just at home noodling.
Love the playing!
Thank you!
Both useful and very amusing. Thx!
Ur wlcm!
Great video on these
Thanks for that! I really love your work! I bought Mosky a week ago, decided that i can afford mistake in that price point . Actually i expected much more differences between those pedals, Bad Horse and Lil Pony is the only really standing out.
How do you find it?
Thank you so much for the video! I've tried in a shop the MXR and I found it nice, but the price tag was a bit too high for me. After your video I went for the cheapest one (and there's a boost in it!)
Thanks, this cleared up some things for me. I appreciate it!
Despite the brilliant pedal comparison you do I absolutely love your loops!
Glad you like them!
Love this comparison! The MXR is so close, but with price comparison the moskys would seem to be a really good value. Silver seems more versatile, the extra bass boost might be a good option to have if you switch between HB guitars and say teles or some other single coils. Great loop!
Went for the Mxr. Thanks. And well done.
Great video.im a golden horse user.love it with my telecaster and deluxe reverb.thanks for letting me know I made the right choice
Cheers
Reverend Hellbilly Which Golden Horse though - Mosky or Decibelics?
@@ThePedalBored mosky
Wow...that was a good video. I would love to see more nano-sized pedal video series of delay, reverb, etc.
Thanks to your video I'll get a Mosky golden horse, great demo! I'll subscribe!
Excellent comparison.
Best K copy review I've seen yet. Its the MOSEY & TONE CITY for me. Seriously, great job.
Thanks!
"Let's see if I can make this lot sound horrible" is something I can really get behind. For the record it sounded awesome
It's a blessed release after all that trying to be careful comparing things accurately.
Great Demo!!
Really enjoyed this
That was a great way of comparing. NO TALKING because it is smarter this way.
I'm going with the horseman because it's two in one, and that mid-hump you mentioned will be different when I set it for more treble. And I play ceramic pickups which are mid-heavy.
Nice choice! Great pedal.
Love the riff on this one!
Thanks! It's in a sort of This Is The Kit vibe I think.
Cool comparison! Thnx!
No, thnk u!
What a good job ! Thanks a lot. A french musician.
Outside of the awesome demo, I’m loving the shit out of the tune. Really great music!
Thanks! It's the slowest part of making these videos, coming up with a loop. (And then editing them, of course.) Shooting the thing takes literally half an hour max.
I never thought to put my looper before pedals when comparing tone. Great idea! I have the MXR Sugar Drive and love it.
Glad you like it!
I love your approach........let me "hear" not watch you show off playing skills while trying to hear! Great video!!
This is an amazing video! Thank you for it!
The only problem with it is that now I really want the MXR :D
Great comparison!!
Get it get it get it get it get it (does this help!)
@@ThePedalBored Ok, now it's on my shopping list XD I just need to get two-three utility pedals first, but I can't wait to change my main overdrive type!
You make the best pedal shootouts on youtube dude
Thank you! I really appreciate it.
The Pedal Bored np man. Do you daisy chain the pedals together or do you have like an actual power source?
braden rocha This one was a mixture of the two. Top row have separate power, bottom row daisy chained from one output. I use a Donner power supply so not isolated. So far no noise problems.
Amazing video! Thanx a lot!!!!
I ordered a Gold Mosky two days ago to try out having a Klon sound, so your final assessment was a relief!
Glad to help!
Well done!
Well done Sir, I salute you 👏
great job!
Dude this was brilliant. Glad to see the MXR was a super close match because that’s the one I have on my board!
Thank you - glad I could help you feel you made the right choice!
I absolutely love the music! Is it original? Sounds great! Awesome video! Thanks!
I suspect the voice switch on the silver mosky just removes a clipping diode or a set of them, hence why you couldn't hear a difference clean and the huge volume boost with the gain turned up.
Great vid!
2DoobsMcJubes That sounds like a good assessment. (Mosky calls it a 'NORMAL/SOFT Clip option' which doesn't help much.)
It actually moves from the germanium ones to LED's. I saw the components when I had mine apart for a short short,
I did my research and got the NU X horseman. The option of buffered or true bypass, and the dual modes sold me because I like options. I don't care if it doesn't quite clone a Klon. It's a different clip than my TS and my Super Metal, and blend well between them. It sounds fat and smooth, and has TONs of boost.
How did the NUX Horseman work out for you? I'm curious because I just watched the video and I'm coming to the same conclusion. Thanks
@@SpecialTed I have the NUX and it's a great pedal. Very surprising the amount of options you get between the tone/gain controls and the gold/silver modes. Silver is really just more gain, but it's also brighter. I've seen people with two of them on their boards, one set to gold and one to silver and they used the silver as a solo boost. Great pedal, especially for the price. It's got a real following if you look around online.
I would love for you to give a loop breakdown sometime. This tune is so good. My friend and I are attempting to break it down to jam with each other.
On a side note i have the MXR Sugar Drive and it is a fantastic pedal. The Sugar Drive and the Keeley Phat Mod are my two favorite drives that i own, both of which you have featured.
Great comparison. Loved the use of the looper track. The on screen evaluations are so useful.
Thanks for sharing. You are doing the Lord's work.
These riffs are magical, I honestly cannot get enough of it!
As always, a great video. Your format is simply excelente.
Tumnus for me, but maybe that's because I'm just too familiar with it and know nothing about the others.
How about another one of these, but with more expensive klones? JRocket (both), Tumnus deluxe, Ryra, ktr...? I know it's been done, but not in this format.
Regardless, thanks for sharing, dude.
Keep it up.
Cheers
PS- if possible, do one on OCD clones and throw a couple of originals (different versions) in the mix.
For $20-$30 the Mosky is a must have for EVERY guitar player.
Just picked up a mosky silver horse, can’t wait
Awesome shootout! Love the Roald Dahl books on the background.
These pedals are the Oompa Loompas of the Klon world.
I'm getting a lovely seventies vibe from the loop.
Interesting - I think it was slightly inspired by a band called This Is The Kit, but I get that '70s thing you're saying.
I like your channel ! The concept is great and really useful for me ^^ ! Good continuation ! Friendly. Amiga
Thanks!
