Just got my NUX Horseman, and I'm loving it so far. I'd just add, for people wondering, that once you long-click the button to put it into "silver" mode, you can then tap the button to turn it on and off, but it will stay in "silver" mode until you long-click again. So if you prefer the silver mode, you can set it up that way from the start of your session, and just leave it in silver mode, with no long-clicks needed after the initial one. Great Klon sound for the money!
The guy who invented the Klon had a Fender amp that sounded amazing when it was on 8, but he often did gigs when he could only turn up to 4 or 5, so he developed this pedal to recreate that '8' sound with an amp at any volume level. That explains why you like to use it on an already slightly broken up amp sound, that's exactly what the initial intended use for this pedal was.
Got my Horseman today. Only tested somewhat quickly on my HB Tube 5 with a DBZ Bolero single cut guitar which supposedly comes with Duncan DD pup`s. As good as the mini sounds alone I was blown away with what came out when stacking it in front of the HB Good cop/bad cop. It sounded amazing with either side of the pink HB or both at once, moderate gain on all. Initially very pleased, and I will test on my Marshall 50w/12" EL34 combo with some more guitars this weekend. Think this little pedal has more surprises in store for me :)
That is a pedal I would consider purchasing. The Silver mode is just about where I would want to be most of the time. I use one of my amps as a clean amp with drive pedals. The others have good clean and drive channels. So I would be using this pedal differently, depending on my amp choice.
Another awesome comp/production! Nu-X-Clon(e) pedal sounds pretty good, into slight breakup. But I shan't be tempted. My seniors home management always wants us to 'declutter' our rooms. With so much great budget gear eventually my collection would fill every nook and cranny and I'd get booted out. I'm already pushing it with 4 guitars. Sigh.
John, on the subject of guitarists discoved on UA-cam, have you discovered 'Kfir Ochaion'? You'll find him on facebook and on UA-cam doing some 400 cover versions, not just of rock classics but in some cases corny old songs (like 'My Heart Wll Go On' and 'Frozen') and turning them into searing rock instrumentals, his fingers seemingly landing effortlessly on all the right notes as if his knowledge of the fretboard is beyond intimate - he can intuitively play anything thrown at him, and make dross sound sublime. We talk about Clapton being 'good when he's in the right mood' but this guy makes a complete nonsense out of that. I'd be very interested in what you think of him. And running a very close second is a Filipino chap based in Nashville named R.J. Ronquillo whom I discovered while watching Gretsch demos. As always, thank you for the great gear demos... and your words of wisdom... just heep on keeping on...
Marshall amp sounds great, but then you turbocharge it, now its even better. Have to pick this up next visit to UK. Thought the demo using several guitars was class.
I own *good* guitars, regardless of the price tag. My main guitar (no1 if you like) is my signature model instrument which is hand built by a superb UK based luthier. You saw that guitar at the start of the demo. Other than that, I am fortunate enough to own a nice Gibson Les Paul, an S2 PRS and a Fender Telecaster amongst others (including some "low end" - to use your rather condescending terminology - guitars). Experience has taught me that the RRP of a guitar isn't necessarily a reflection of tone, playability or general overall quality. But then again, I'm no cork sniffing badge snob.
Lol. Fml I literally just spat my tea out. I mean come on John, raise your game. What's the point of demoing a fifty quid pedal with such low end guitars? I really need to know what this is like with my Murphy Lab Les Paul and my PRS Wood Library. How do you expect me to stretch to £150 for a Wampler Tumnus when I've spent 15k on two guitars? #There'sAlwaysATosser

Great to hear it with a wide range of guitars and pickups. Not many UA-camrs would have made the effort. Great work as always 👏
No kidding, a bunch of work but John is smart, the efforts brings him what he needs in his tuition.
Cheers from Brasil!

Great review John thanks
Sounds great, man! You can really play! :)

It's a fantastic pedal. Probably the best boost/gain stomper I've ever owned 👍

Love that jam. Great chord progression. Love all the demos, especially the analog stuff. That Sire really stood out....
Pip pip cheerio nice mix of pickups single coil vs humbucker ...tribute especially..

I've got a soul food, very similar I think - with a bit of gain on my blues junior, it's the 1970s all over again
What guitar is that you're playing Robert?
Who is Robert?
The guitars were...
Sire S7
Sire H7
Fazley Outlaw Coyote Plus
And my ex signature model which used to be made by a UK based builder.
There is a bad ass rock monster in your chest JR. One day you gotta let it completely out!

👍
would love to here all of this with high end guitars, I'm guessing all you have is low end guitars?

Not just rude....blind, deaf or just plain dumb..?🙄
@gearViewmirror There's always one, mate.
