Great and respectful audition of his work. With all your tips, it ended as a really informative video. Great to see a techno pro giving feedback. Nice way to comment on videos! Nice job.
I love this format, because it gives me something to observe, then you counter with simple solutions with tools I don't even think about using as a newer producer. I'd love to see more like this.
its easy - just sample a yard sprinkler and hit a big metal tub with a hammer and sample that too. play a greasy lead on a broken guitar, add reverb to the set and you've got it. Trap in a day? Trap can be learned in an hour. maybe even less
Relatable. I think we're talking about slightly different things, but I always got "loopitis" from listening to one section on loop too many times trying to make perfect a specific element. Even if I still like the track - I never want to hear it again because of listening to it so many times already I can't stand to hear it again.
I found his videos useful and inspirational. Even as an experienced producer myself, relearning by watching others learn - venture out of their comfort zone. Decent roast/ appraisal.
I learned to make minimal techno whilst getting a lift from a taxi driver on a rainy day.. Those windscreen wipers were great once they were sampled and looped up ad infinitum.
I haven't been producing for like 2 years, but I used to learn a lot from your channel and today I randomly checked who I'm subscribed to and couldn't find out who's this girls channel untill I scrolled down 😆 Congratulations 👌
I love it how this video captures some of the core issues every one faces when first trying to make Techno. Would be great fun to see if you ever get to do a collab.
Yeah, definitely sounded more house, which isnt bad thing at all! I love to bedroom produce as a hobby (not to get big or anything) and tend to make more uplifting trance type stuff, however, I've found since learning to make more melodic techno stuff - there are elements that are similar/go hand in hand with Trance (so was Synthwave, weirdly, when I went through that phase) and I often mix them both. What I do kind of emphasise is, if you are making a genre but find you are moving away slightly into something else - just have fun with it, a banger is a banger!
Hahaha yeah, i know that feel ... was also a house producer when i started, but those dub chords kept sneaking in all the time, now i am learning dub techno since 4 years ... found my sound, and now building and expanding from it.
Met Ocean at the ADE Pro actually... Didnt remember this video, so I had no idea who he was!! We started chatting somehow, and after a while I asked to exchange details... He said best to go to my youtube channel.. He typed in his channel, I see 500K followers... I am like dude, wtf is this?? (And STILL didnt realized it was this Ocean from your video 😅🤣🤪)
But he was such a nice guy to chat with!! Well spoken, humble, no big ego or nothing.... Especially after figuring out who he is now, big respect to him for just chilling at the ADE Pro area like the rest of us normal/starting producers!
Hi Alice, great video! Do you have a tip how to make 'darker' sounding techno? I also tend to start with a the intention of creating a techno-banger but in the end oftentimes the result is more melodic and mellow.
I would love to see you react to other videos similar to this (regardless of the experience level of the producer in electronic music). I am a house music producer i enjoy your videos very much and this was very simple, educative and fun to watch.
i want to hear his first one if he goes back to it and makes a 2000s style disco house version of that song, he should listen to Perfection by Dannii Minogue for the reference of the 70s disco sample sound mixed with 2000s house disco
Alice. I recently found out about a genre invented in someone's dream. In the dream, they were at a rave and a women told them about a new genre that was in 5/4 time at 212bpm.. It was called 'Hit' em'.. Fancy having a go? I know I'm gona try make some. Would be cool to see what you can come up with.
Basically chocking some of the toms so they don't play at the same time. So you basically prioritize which one to play if all played at the same time. 😊
thats the problem of technicians... they are to much focused on tech stuff... somehow the loop of this guy just sounded more musical than many other tech producers. 😊
haha that is so true 1 day my buddy took me to a HardTechno Rave party and now i'm a regular, now that is what i call a party everyone is going crazy instead of those boring main stream techno at 120 bpm and everyone just stands there like they are at a local bar lol, no when i want to party i go PARTY xDD
these are my thoughts before watching the video ive have made both hip-hop beats and electric music before (with mid results on both ends, by no means am i am expert). Although i do think it is realistic that he "learned techno" in a day, as a lot of the same skills transfer, in going to guess the song he made would be very basic and generic, listenable but not memorable, maybe breaking a few genre defining rules, but not horrible. Also the bass would more than likely be slightly too high after watching the video: definitely related to the house music PTSD note i started off making weird dubstep, quickly got into house and big room, hard house, "main stage" and even now when i try to produce other genres i fall into kinda a house style or house vibe
House and techno are pretty easy i mean the use of arpeggiation kind of outlines a lot of the rhythm and its pretty easy to play around with without having terrible disastrous results. Its like house. Not the best music in the world by any means, but easy to modulate due to the simple structure. Drumfunk on the other hand, i dont see anyone being able to learn in a day. Breaks alone take time to understand, as most people don't know what theyre even hearing, and the bass rhythms in drumfunk can be jazz-based, so theyre incredibly complex often. On top of this, the drums in Drumfunk are utilized to punctuate the rhythm and add flavor to the environment, while the bass leads the track. So if you're used to leads leading the track then you're gonna probably struggle a bit with this sound because its unfamiliar to most people.
10 layers of a kick lol meanwhile the best mixing and mastering engineer in techno Julia Borelli recommends not to layer kicks and instead use a good sample and eq it. Yeah I'm gonna trust her over this dude. If you want to see for yourself watch her masterclass and Kevin de Vries video, learned so much from the masterclass it's insane. I mean what kind of samples are people using that they need to layer simple kicks? When did music start getting complicated and needed 10 layers of a kick and 5 lead layers? It's getting easier to produce music, you have synths with so many oscillators and people talk about layering. I mean it's an okay video, but everyone can sit down and make a techno track, not everyone can sit down and make a good techno track that sounds good.
It's funny how he says "I learnt how to produce techno in a day..." Sorry Sir, but you didn't, basically you tried to create two techno tracks and both of them have no power and are definitely not a full techno track due to the amount of elements you lack on your tracks such as percs, atmos, textures, pads, leads... It's a bit disrespectful for all those who are learning how to do a techno track properly to consider you learnt how to do it in a day, because, basically you didn't. I wouldn't say I learnt how to make techno, I would have said I tried to do a techno track, I wanted to do a techno track, but I learnt...
Alice you are an amazing producer but looks like your knowledge of the techno history isn't as good as your skills ;-) "Hardgroove" has made some kind of come back for a few years now but during its golden days (from 2001 to 2010) - what I really call "Hardgroove" - it was all about sampling disco stuff and making techno with 'm. Listen to some old school Ben Sims sets and you will get what it was all about. Imo, even the first track in this video was pretty cool and still "hardgroove-like" ;-) Cheers ;-)
Of course not, you can create whatever you want :-) She's giving a preference, explaining why some elements are more commonly used in the genre and what may sound better on big system, where you can appreciate the production...learn the rules to break them type of thing

I wanna see you producing a Trap beat now :)
😂😂😂
In one day!

Dude, trap is a five minute beat.
Techno can be the same but Yalcine has a lot more nuance to her productions.
Jajaja 😅 Yep. Me too
That's one of those tracks that sound so good at night, but the next day when you hear it, you want to throw your computer away.

I saw that Ocean Video, and as a big fan of yours i love how you analyse and improve but not critisize .
Honestly I am really excited to see you and oscar's upload, its like waiting for Christmas day when you're a child.
Really looking forward to meeting all the attendies in October!

This is superb. No one make this for free. Super cool video!!! 💯🔥🔥🔥

There's a difference between making music and making GOOD music.

When they think that techno is 909 saturate haha
I thought choke "ends" a previous sound. With three toms at the same time, what does choke exactly do?
That's hilarious, make more of those))
Got it!
@@Alice-Efe
Hello. Can You make video about percussion, shaker how made it good!
I am following u both, love the video
EXCELENTE. When you say "i use analog claps", what do you mean? like drumachine like 909 or a acoustic drum set?
yes definitely from a drum machine like 909, 808, 606.... acoustic drums are basically the opposite.
Hi Alice! What did you mean about "choking" the kicks - like limit/compress the group? Also, hopefully see you in person 18th of October :)
Yep I had to rewind that part to understand the choking layered sampled. Seems like using clipper ?
Basically chocking some of the toms so they don't play at the same time. So you basically prioritize which one to play if all played at the same time. 😊

when hearing this Ocean songs vocals, I get well done Stardust PTSD, but no offense, he did awesome :D Okay after 3/4 I want to go clubbing crazy.
He did pretty damn good for a first time. Way better than me
Yeah, I was expecting a total disaster
What's the name of the accidental house track at 9:24 ? That sounds like a banger!
Hey!Are you planing to come to Hungary, there is a lot of people here whoe would love to dance to your music....
We need that 9:20 track released

With some proper mixing, making it more spacial, it could actually be good.
Definitely!

uffffff.....
Trapz brutal innit Techno’s brutal innit kinda re-repetitive init…
Yeah, I believe someone can make crap Techno in a day... but also hip-hop and even rock.
I'm sure anyone could learn three guitar chords in a day!

Same that we don't know much about hip-pop styles.

I actually don't know the whole history of hardgroove. I am just familiar with current hardgroove sound. So take what I said with a grain of salt. 😊
he should just stick to his genre, let's just be honest here.
does it really matter what kind of clap someone uses on a track. just use your ears ppl. get creative.
