What I like, though subtle is in their choice of coffees. Today, what they ordered would not really bat an eye. But back then, these types of coffees were not as well known to most people. Though available, few people in middle class touched them. Here you have Angela, in her new high class style of living ordering an Espresso and Lawrence, when his turn came, though not as high up in his ex-wife's financial level orders a Café au lait, by no means a simple man's coffee. This was almost like a duelling banjos moment between the two showing two strong individuals who know the difference from the norm and one letting the other know they are the others equal. Hence why they were drawn to each other in the first place.

@@sfkingalpha I mean look at all the other comments of people saying that she owned him and shut him up. But everythings open for interpretation I guess
It's not the 'mommy' bit, it's that Furious doesn't want Reva to indulge Tre. He's raising his son to survive in a rough world as an adult, which means he'll have to carve his own way through life. Being spoiled by his parents would just hold him back.

I think Furious won this argument.
Tre IS a grown up,
Tre's momma is still trying to cling onto being "mommy" forever.
Furious is GREAT for not losing his temper.
It's as if you watched the video or something.
I always saw both sides as being right. Tre is older and his mother doesn't have to always buy things for him, but at the same time, his mom can still be a mother to him and show him some love with gifts every now again. My mother still gifts me with things, and I'm 40 yrs. old with a job. However, I don't depend on her to buy things for me.
@@MsNotzi I agree. I don't see this as anyone being right or wrong.
Riva: "I said sit your ass down before I raise my voice and make a fool out of both of us".
Furious: "okay". 😂😂😂
🤣
I grew up with both parents. I wonder how heartbreaking it is seeing both of your parents be amazing separately but not able to do it together.
Some people just aren't compatible and they don't realize it until they try to live together.
Incredible scene from the most important and culturally significant movie of its (and our current) time.
Everything else John Singleton did in his career aside for a moment, this movie alone made his time here incredibly meaningful and impactful. May he rest in peace.
Angela so damn fly
Olusegun Arigbede agreed! She is extremely beautiful in more ways than one and she is my favourite Actress!!
One of my favorite scenes in anything, ever.
Everyone gangsta until they sit down for coffee with Reva.
I could see why they had a child together lmao
He was fine back then
Still is.
This is the best movie ever I don’t care what anyone says it never gets old and after it’s over it always makes you think about things
"You take the espresso, you stay in dream world and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the cafe au lait and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes."
This movie is filled with great scenes.
I LOVE when they act together
It just hit me, after 30 years, these two played Ike & Tina Turner together.
Notice how she says Ex-presso and furious pronounces his coffee perfectly. Almost as is furious has class built in him, and Angela is kind of upping herself to push into high society. She still has the slightest bit of hood in her even though she tries to be uppity.
Brilliant
Exactly 💯
Did not catch that. Great observation 👍🏽
I think there also some hidden racial things like café au lait being black mixing with white.
@@salimalloun6413wouldn’t that make more sense if she ordered that then? Because she’s trying to be black mixed with white?
Both characters are so balanced and have such ridiculous chemistry that quite frankly i can't take anyone's side here. Great banter. This is how good this acting is. This is an underrated scene in an otherwise excellent movie
Although there not together I love how tre's parents were able to sit down & have a mature conversation about there offspring, without any arguing nor strong language!... Drink your cafe ole it's on me😮😅❤
Lot of power from these two from different sides of the field. As a divorced parent I get it now. A whole lotta "same but different" going on.
"I said SIT YOUR ASS DOWN before I RAISE MY VOICE and make A FOOL OUT OF BOTH OF US!!!"
It's a done deal...
She didn’t really make any point at the end there and was merely trying to save face and down play the statement he made before he was about to exit the conversation, which is why he didn’t mind smiling and having a drink calmly. She revealed her hand and had nothing, just a poker face.
Morpheus was always destined to take the red pill, even in Furious days...😂
I can't😂
What a phenomenal couple I wish they could’ve worked it out in the movie ! Reva was the only one who could play chess with furious !
"What you did is what mothers have been doing since the beginning of time"
Furious: You didn't.
I love these two.
Two great actors!
She killed this scene 🔥 straight fire
She did but furious definitely won the battle.
@@ericperkins971 🤔How so?
@@ericperkins971 How was it a battle?
Both great actors they were brilliant in this movie
When you get off work early on Friday
2:26
Pure class, both of them.
I’m a Man and I always loved this Scene about two Parents who loved their Child and had Respect for each other. Sit your Ass down before I raise my Voice and embarrass both of Us. Yes Ma’am and I think you’re Cute too.
This has got my favorite scene
Lawrence & Angela work great on film together. 'whats love got to do with it ' is another good example.
This is a good scene, I would have just gotten up and walked away. Because ain't no way in hell you are going to talk to me like that, you want to make a scene, you make it by your damn self.
This is King and Queen MENTALITY.....
most WILL NEVER KNOW!!!!!!!!
I would know because I wasn't there for most of it....
I.Y.K.Y.KNOW........
....
This is very powerful not everyone in the hood has parents like this.
Lawrence Fishburne cut is so fresh 🔥🔥
This scene perfectly encapsulates the differences between Mothers and Fathers. Also, Furious Stylez is a fucking OG, and Angela Bassett here is hotter than any chick we have in modern Hollywood.
Great acting 🔥👏🏼👏🏼
short but yet such a powerful scene...how co-parenting should be done...
0:39 - 1:09 that was a god damn Quick Coffee. My compliments to the Waiter and the Coffee Maker dude
