People replying in comments are blaming the child for not calling the police......proves that this is a real life issue
The brilliance of this scene is that she can’t remember when her child was born but she remembers every small detail of the trauma she endured. That glimpse into her experience of the world is heartbreaking.
My heart broke for her, but where she made her mistake was blaming “Precious” for the actions of that sick man.
She tried to argue that “Precious” didn’t scream or yell, but my response would’ve been,
“You just told me that he was touching her as a baby, while y’all were having sex!!! You didn’t get up and punch his ass then?????”
And then asked her if she remembers her own birth.
If this hurts your heart then don’t read the book…I’ve read this and the sequel with her son and *_-whistle-_* you’re in for the most eye-opening, disgusting, realistic shit ever.
@@brentduanefoster Precious's mother blames instead of taking responsibility because she's a narcissist. Narcissism is pathological, there is no cure for those demons. If I were given the chance to reform our education-system, I would make children recite the Narcissist's Prayer instead of the Pledge of Allegiance. Help potential victims recognize when they're being gaslighted, while educating more fortunate children to grow into adults who can recognize a narcissist demon. I believe it could save millions of children who are forced to believe they're not abused, or think the abuse is their fault...
The Narcissist's Prayer:
"That didn't happen,
And if it did happen, it wasn't that bad,
And if was bad, that's not a big deal,
And if it is a big deal, that's not my fault,
And if it was my fault, I didn't mean it,
And if I did mean it, then it's because you deserved it!"
No Precious, you're not stupid, you just got dealt the wrong cards, raised by a demon and forced to love it because you didn't know better.

What a disgusting character and the scary thing is that people like this exist. Usually they're such "nice" people in public, but behind closed doors...
+cinnamonstar808 "Mama" should not be in front of her name. Another "mother" I can't stand is Jackie Siegel. Narcissist extraordinaire.
Indeed, they have to fake emotions because they have no real emotions. They hide their evil selves from the general public but it's their unfortunate victims who see them for what they truly are. And sadly others often don't believe the victim because the offender is so "wonderful" and "popular" and "would never hurt a fly."
CallmeAffiliated hopefully there is a way you can get her some help or help her find help
asherdash12 The sad truth is that some of these people don't want help because they're perfectly happy being the abusive monsters they are. They're beyond help.

I didn’t realize until recently that her mother was sexually abusing her too. There’s a scene earlier in the movie where she’s under the blankets doing things alone, and then tells precious to “come take care of mommy”, so her saying “who was gonna love me, who was gonna touch me and make me feel good” was about who else was going to do it besides precious. Her man left, so all she had was her daughter so she abused her as well. "So when she tells you about those things I did to her" I always thought they were physical abuse because she was mad no one loved her and was taking it out on her daughter, which I think was still part of it, but specifying who was going to touch her, after talking about the thing she did to precious... I didn’t realize that until recently and it makes the story even sadder knowing she was being abused sexually by her father, and being abused sexually and physically by her mother.

So sad to think that there are children going through situations like these. The three ladies gave amazing performances, so realistic that looks like a documentary.
As a clinical social worker. I can confirm this.
Mary isn't upset because she will never see her daughter Precious again. She's upset because she will no longer have a punching bag around.

HEAT1996 Narcissim and abuse isn’t confined to black communities. America has a narcissist running the world and he isn’t black
I don't think that's true. This woman is broken and was broken before she ever had precious. She likely came from a home where she was abused and wasn't loved and so she didn't know how to love. She literally just didn't know how to love and couldn't receive it. She didn't want precious to leave because she didn't have anyone. She didn't want to be alone.

Don't worry, I already knew. What I meant was if she had done this scene alone, she still would have won. Judi Dench won one despite only appearing in her movie for eight minutes.
Lee Daniels blackballed her in Hollywood because she wouldn't campaign for her Oscar
So I Said what happened was, she worked hard on the movie, and since ending production wanted to spend time with her family. The studio wanted her to go on promotional tour at Cannes, I think, and she refused unless they put her and her family somewhere nice or paid her because this was her personal time she would be sacrificing. So, support from Lee and the studio was taken from her and she was blackballed for being difficult. They felt she should have been grateful and sacrificed her family time for their movie at a financial loss because she would have to pay to have her family with her, and she had already been away from them so long.
Everything in this scene was so powerful!!! The look of disbelief on Mariah's face, the way Gabby is sitting there speaking with her face saying "Yep. This is the shit I go through." And the INCREDIBLE skills of Mo'Nique being able to bawl tears while being a monster at the same time. Not everyone can do this. THESE are ACTRESSES.
I think she was honest when she said “There was a time when Precious had everything.” Unfortunately this time period was short-lived. You can see photos of Mo’Nique and baby Precious happy and Mo’Nique all dressed up looking pretty. But then it was followed by photos of Precious in toddler age or so, and Mo’Nique had gotten distracted, upset, and looked very disorganized. Very small detail in the movie. But it showed how her love for Precious transformed over time in the movie. I think she would have been a great mom but she was controlled and manipulated by Carl before she even had Precious, so instead of protecting Precious from him, she got envious and insecure with her own child. Her idea of happy family with Precious was tattered when Carl started touching her. I think her break down at the end was real, but it was too far gone with Precious and her. She realized it a little too late.
Just tragic all around sadly.
love how you broke this down.
Remember the scene where Mary tells Precious "You ruined my f***ing life" after they cut them off from welfare? She was obviously wrong. Carl ruined Mary's life by turning her into a monster.
No what u just said is all wrong. She literally admitted that she hated her daughter because her pedophile boyfriend was raping her baby instead of making love to her. You honestly have to be twisted as fuck to do that. She was a horrible filthy creature from the start, and that’s all she’ll every be.. until the day she dies.
And the boyfriend met Mary when she was underage too. I always saw Mary as someone who could’ve been a good person and overcome her trauma but she slipped through the cracks.

It's crazy to me how people who are most famous for being funny and hysterical like comedians or people who played funny characters on TV (Eddie Murphy, Monique, Will Smith) , make the most phenomenal dramatic actors and can put on the most stellar, incredible performances. Monique was absolutely amazing in this scene.
It's the tears of a clown. They are always putting on an act to make people laugh. It's probably easier for them to just act real for once.
Jasmine Simmons that's because some gifted comedians laugh through their trauma the reason their comic is genius and helps them keep their sanity to tell other's who might and will go crazy😱.....and when they relive the story they speak it as if it's happening vividly in the moment
Which is why it's silly when people say the academy is racist. When comedians are getting the awards, you have to stop blaming racism and just perform better.

.....I’m a Sagittarius
StuUngar lol
I’m Scorpio and we’re neighbors
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Monique played this role to the fullest but let's give Mariah Carey some credit too. Their exchange was beyond amazing.
Corijuan Reese why y’all keep bringing her up what did she do???😂😂(I’m young so Idrk this)
She's Mrs.Weis
That would have made me quit or get fired if I was her.
Corijuan Reese were* correct grammar please
Kristal Rice ???? What?
Gabby, Monique, Mariah, all three did amazing in this scene. As did the baby. BYE.
bitca222 I'm sorry but I died when that baby said Bye!😂😂😂
bitca222 the movie star haunting yet good
You're cute 😏
Yasmine Metayer she is fake bro ..
The actor who plays Carl did an amazing job as the villan
Such an incredible scene. What an actress. So glad she won the Oscar for this performance.
This is to an extend pure narcissism. She isn’t upset she is loosing her child and grandson. She doesn’t care for them to be cared for and happy. She has no regard for her or anyone. She simply sees them as things. Tools that BELONG to her and are for her to use as she sees fit purely to benefit herself.
Those humans are monsters and very very real. They are anyone and can come from everywhere. Happy charismatic people.
It’s healthy to have a level of distrust of every human.
As awful as this scene is, I can't stop watching it. It's so beautifully acted and so real. Unfortunately, this is how a lot of women think on a far lesser level - the man comes before everyone else.
true.
Fabalocious Dee and I know a few smh
Fabalocious Dee Monique did such a good job here. You feel her pain but her perspective is definitely warped... that she's jealous of her daughter. But she obviously didn't feel good enough about herself to see the truth
You get the impression NOBODY loved her enough to raise her right... she was probably abused too...
Eugene Murphy Actually he was already married when he settled down with Mary. For all we know, he could have had a good life and he was just a sick, depraved piece of shit. It's not always abuse that breeds abuse.
That woman is so disgusting and vile o.o Monique blew my mind in this scene
hahahaha this is such a mess. my only thoughts as she was explaining that was "bitch go to jail" and i felt a strange mix of emotions
TaniaxMr.J:3 o
I just found out Helen Mirren was supposed to be Ms. Weiss. Well, either her or Mariah would be good, but Mariah is 100% New York she definitely knows the era and feel of the movie.
This has to be one of the most moving scenes in cinema history! There probably wasn't a dry eye on the set. Well done!
This scene is really disturbing do you hear what she's saying!!! It's crazy!!
the book is so much more sad and disturbing and dark but that's what makes it amazing
What is it saying???
Jen Cannizzaro 😩
Who else was make me feel good late at night and she made him go away....omg
This is a real story for millions of women around the world. It’s way more common than you think. Some men take women who they think are weak and beat them down so that they’ll allow things like this
Your child comes first no matter the cost
Its not even about your child even it was a bb in the middle of the path. You csnnot let someone or your boyfriend abuse that child.
@@rhunieangella5424 he said what he said
Shut up moron
Man who touch a child, men who has no dick
Diestro Passive // men who touch children can’t get no p*ssy 🤭🤭
Ive never felt disgust, hatred and empathy at the same time. What a performance
mariah crying because of the corruption she is hearing aswell as the empathy she had for precious was excellent. You could easily tell it was for multi-reason.
I like to think in that moment Mariah was thinking about her sister Allison and the parallels.
One of the hardest movies to watch
Rainey J true
It makes my heart hurt and sad . It makes me feel sorry for all mothers and daughters
@@gabethedinosaur95 But unfortunately it's a real situation in many world's households...
Yea!!
I was disgusted the whole time!
I know, right?
My god, Monique, need a standing ovation for this performance. N0 wonder she got an Academy Award for this movie.
It wasn't THAT good! This movie is overrated and OVER melodramatic and had a "hidden" agenda to snag awards due to a very depressing storyline. The old let's get sympathy and garner some awards from someone else's personal tragedy.
Ricky Parker you really thought you were on to something didn’t you. lmao
Ricky Parker this was all 1 take
Ricky Parker Shut up... please just shut up...
@@rickyparker3853 thats not the reason she got the award though. The reason she got the award is because she's a monster and an evil being that brought something else to the table. Fucked up as it is. She displays a humanity that her character doesnt deserve. The only other person that did that was Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs
The fact that there are mothers who are delusional like Monique is mind blowing.
Wow, Monique was superb acting this part. She fully deserved the Oscar
Mo'nique plays such a vile and cruel woman in this movie. The acting in this scene is so powerful and convincing it almost makes you emphasise with her. Not condoning what she did but you can see where she is coming from, resenting her daughter because the man she loved was interested in her instead. Her scenes with Precious (Gabourey Sidibe) make for uncomfortable viewing but the contempt she shows towards her is so realistic it's scary. Acting at its finest
"Not condoning what she did" lol when the acting so good you confuse the character and the script.
Pete Finch i know I'm late, but i can't help myself. I believe the word you meant was "empathise" not "emphasise"
chris F. Oh yeah lol. That's what I meant. Thanks
I agree her acting was a master class..well deserved oscar. This part made me so sick to my stomach because most mothers have an instinct to protect their babies.....even in the animal kingdom. Most mothers would have cut that mans hand off before he reached for their baby to abuse them... an example would be mother whales will put their babies on their stomach and push themselves out of he water allowing themselves to be attacked before their baby will suffer. The scene was gut wrenching... it really was. a mothers love should be and is stronger than any love for a man ... in my opinion but sadly that’s not the case sometimes.
I would say "carl watchu doin, watchu doin, watchu doin, umm ummmm" 💀
Haunting
My boyfriend's name is Carl :/ Thank God he's not like that sick monster
+Ima Queen shut yo fat ass up
***** thx -_-
The acting is phenomenal but that part always cracked me up!
“Them Scorpio’s, you gotta watch them”🤦🏽♀️😂 No but seriously Monique DESERVED that award, she played this role so GOOD I couldn’t watch anything else with her acting for a while… felt that she really WAS that character.
This scene right here won Monique the Oscar. Hell of a performance.
Mariah Carey needs to play more serious roles like this
Best thing about Monique in this just how she's able to make Mary evil and pathetic almost pitiful all at once . She's unspeakably cruel to Precious yet she's totally reliant on her . By the end of this scene she realises she's not only has she lost her hold over Precious, she's ultimately lost her only support. She tries to get it back only to find it's too late.
Exactly. All the abuse and suffering Mary has put Precious through has finally caught up to her. Now she's all alone with nothing while Precious is moving forward with her babies. Those pity me tears can't save her now.
*I felt bad for her when she said that Precious sat there and let her man have her. It makes you realise that it’s all Precious’ fault.*
@@earlaweese sorry but how is it precious’ fault????? Her father had been doing it since she was three, she probably became normalised to it and her father even told her that he will marry her.
@@bisolasoutlet9371 don't respond to that person. they're a troll. i saw them defending Lovely Peaches on another video.
@@bisolasoutlet9371 what SK meant was, they are trolls who feed on hate comment, the only way to beat a trolls is ignore them
co-dependency is a monster. this is how generational trauma works. and why it's so powerful, and hard to break.
I love the social worker at the end “you really want me to let you reconnect with your daughter, get the fuck away from me don’t touch me” when Monique goes to grab her hand
