    The opsix (and wavestate, and modwave) mk 2's exist because of the global scarcity of Raspberry RC 3 chips which they were designed around. If Korg wanted to keep those products in production, they had to migrate them to the new RC4 chips. Besides the increased polyphony they're basically the same instrument. They're probably even inside the same cases, hence the 'stuck on' mk 2 label.

    • @kaitlyn__L
      @kaitlyn__L 24 дні тому

      Honestly I'm surprised so many people thought they were outright cancelled, even though it should've been generally known that the Raspberry chips were scarce.
      That said, I think calling them a mk2 is a bit weird. If Raspberry migrate to another chip in another few years, are they going to have to do a mk3? I can understand them being v1, v2, v3 under the hood; like how various ARPs had different filter models... but mk2 being heavily featured in the marketing is the weird thing to me.

  • @Wagoo
    @Wagoo 3 місяці тому +9

    The Korg Wavestate and Opsix racks are at SE specs, which is actually higher spec than the mk2 versions. The Modwave rack is the same as the Modwave mk2 specs. I bought all 3, it's been incredibly frustrating Korg haven't released a rackmount module since the RADIAS
    Baffles me why they didn't use a nuToob in the King Korg NEO also

      Oh good note, I forgot about the SE

    Looking forward to you trying the Vanilla synth. It’s going to be my first actual synthesizer. Love the look, history, and of course the sounds. I like that STG is emphasizing that it is an instrument and not a box of modules.

    Suzuki lost their effing mind with that pricing. If one's going to spend that much on something like this you might as well get the Folktek version at that point.

    That stylo-drone is tempting. Especially if it turns out the case it comes in can power other modules. ie. If you're getting a eurorack drone module, AND a 42hp battery powered case for 250.

    Thanks for the update. I'd like to see lightweight/mini/portable/affordable/accurate (with all the quirks) clones/reissues of: (Korg?) ARP Quadra, PolyMoog, MultiMoog, Farfisa Syntorchestra, Yamaha E70 (CS-80) organ synthesizer, Hohner Pianet N electric piano, Vox Continental organ

    I play a Sradivarius music saw, and I can tell you one crucially relevant aspect of Stylophone's new Theremin unit. It relies entirely on pitch awareness. More-so than even a cello or violin, which have not frets to locate the pitch. The violin forces the listener to depend on his ear along with his finger-memory on the instrument. But with the Theremin or the Musical Saw, there is no physical gauge to hold or follow. In this sense, is very unique among musical instruments. And there it even strengthens ones hearing. Perfect if your are leaning perfect pitch via exercises. And violinists always have great sense of pitch, and are often excellent singers; Just look at blue-grass singer Alison Krauss. An angelic voice but tempered by her violin.
    Anyway, just had to defend the innocent little Theremin unit here!!! Ha.
    My performances on the Stradivarius, as well as my theory of Perfect Pitch and my Theory of Pitch Psychology can be found here on my own page here. Cheers!

      @@JorbLovesGear Both Ian Wilson and Adam Borseti do great work on Sledge. I'm on my 2nd one now: unlike some, I found mine very dependable, until one Midi-Storm (caused by a feedback loop) in my 'studio' fried my first one. Couldn't live without one though, so I sold that for parts and bought another one used. Happy I did. All my sounds transferred. The combination of one knob-one parameter with a Mini-Moog style voice architecture (though it's not sound-alike) 3 oscillators, with PPG wavetables and a creamy Waldorf filter, and some FM capability, and effects that (only?) I really like, is a winner.

    The new Omnichord is calling me. Everything else feels like it has a lot of overlap with other synths on the market and I’m still not sure any of them can dethrone my take 5. But for someone just getting into the synthverse, you’re right, there has been no better time. Thanks for the jorbcast!

    I’ve been super excited about the Mantis, but the price point is too high. I’ve wished for a while now that Novation would make a Bass Station 3, based potentially on their Peak/Summit architecture (also designed by Huggett). The Mantis seems like it could be this. But at $1350? Oof.

    Korg didn't learn its lesson with the Mini 700FS nostalgia boondoggle for $2K. Full polyphony for PS is a supreme waste of circuitry, especially since it has preset memory. A 12 or 16 voice version would make more sense. Wait 'til you see the pricetag! I'm guessing $11999.99. It's only for musicians with Bugattis. I can get the Cherry Audio version for $49. This, from a company that finally realized that their keyboards need aftertouch reinstated. I would rather have a reissue of the Mono/Poly with preset memory or a Poly version (wow). Klueless Korg. As always Mr. Jorb, great vids.

    • @JorbLovesGear

    Korg should implement their little Kaoss-touchpad whenever they can...but they don't want to, which annoys me, lol. I like that feature so they should implement it more often, it looks great on the ModWav, I would need that on a Minilogue...

    Not sure if its gotten better, but fwiw the midi implementation on the old q-chord i have is absolute garbage, and that's after you get it into an even somewhat playable mode (more difficult than you'd think and certainly more difficult than it should be). I think in a perfect world it would be a viable alternative to the new omnichord, but there is a reason there is no Q-chord cult following.
    That being said, I agree the new Omni price won't fly either.
