The sound you're hearing from the guitar is called harmonics. It's when you sit your finger very lightly on the string directly over a fret and that's the noise you get.
I was thinking "he ain't ready for this song" but it turns out you listened to the abridged version. The full rendition, when he starts that "and when I dream" chant, it's followed up by him screaming as he acts out his mother beating and abusing him relentlessly until he finally snaps and fights back, cusses her out, and shouts that it's time for her to die. I had always only listened to the radio (abridged) version when this song first came out. Wasn't until several years later I heard the full version and it messed me up inside for a while.
Disturbed has a surprising range of sounds, from harder stuff like this one, "Voices," and "Stupify," to more melodic renditions like "The Light" and their hauntingly beautiful cover of "The Sound of Silence." Definitely a band worth digging into.
That sudden stop at the end there before the last chorus, it's where they cut out a part that I'm guessing was deemed inappropriate for this particular performance or recording, it has been sensored. He slowly starts screaming almost incoherently about physical abuse from a mother and then screaming that he's going to (unalive) her.
It's cut from the music video version; however, it isn't about actual, physical abuse but is instead comparing society to an abusive mother that beats down and attempts to destroy anyone that goes against the societal grain. The cut part is where he has had enough and is choosing to fight back so that he can be his true self rather than a reflection of what society wants/expects of him.
I hate that they do that!

That feeling at the beginning...is called "Disturbed"
And the "sickness" the song is about is child abuse. Go back and read the lyrics. It's a song the lead singer penned about the abuse his mother out him through as a kid. And the hopes that it doesn't get passed on to him. Extremely deep and disturbing song about a serious problem.
Again..great reaction, but the unedited version is...a bit more disturbing. Maybe in your offline time you can check that out.
Also as a sidenote: this song was used for the remake of "Dawn Of The Dead" movie back a few decades ago. There's even a piano lounge version played one time during the movie. LOL, imagine that!
The piano lounge version is Richard Cheese, great covers of a bunch of iconic songs.

While that is literally what the lyrics say, that isn't what the song is actually about. David Draiman has stated that the song "Speaks about the eternal struggle of the individual against the mother culture of society that is constantly trying to beat the child struggling for independence and individuality into submission."

Okay, Queen of the Damned. He helped write a lot of the music specifically for Lestat's band. It all sounds so good. I recommend giving that soundtrack a listen. Down with the Sickness is also used for this film.
Dude I've been listening to this band since my high school days and they've never disappointed me. Another good song you should listen by them is "The Vengeful One" very good song!

Disturbed are generally a heavy metal band …. I recommend Five Finger Death Punch ‘a little bit off’ and ‘blue on black’ (their version of Kenny Wayne Sheppard’s song)

These guys are Masters of Metal and this song is a Master piece that opening drum beat with the sweet guitar invokes such a disturbed feeling :-)
I think this song was used in the movie The Queen of the Damned.
Wouldn't say masters of metal they deff aren't but they are great indeed.

This song is 🔥. It is a little out there at first. The front man's vocals are beyond amazing. He can do crazy sounds with his voice. The riffs are 🔥. His melodic songs are deep and so damn beautiful.

That guitar "jump" is a harmonic. You lightly touch the string right over a fret during the strike. You don't even have to move much on the fret board to do it. But makes a great punch to the chord.

that guitar technique you were wondering about around 6:15 is a pitch harmonic. Hold the string lightly as you pluck it, theres a high pitched tone you get from the technique and a lot of rock uses them. Pitch Harmonics

David can sing in any style, and does! Sound of Silence and Stupify are both great choices, but really you could just spin a wheel and take whatever you land on. They are incredibly versatile!
FYI...Lead Singer was initially a trained opera singer. That is why he has such an amazing voice an can reach several octaves.
No, he was not trained in Opera. David was sent to an orthodox jewish school where he was trained as a cantor. He then went on to University where he graduated with a BA in Political Science and Government, Philosophy, and Business Administration.
