The mommy part is a metaphor for the mother culture aka mainstream society and how they treat outcasts, the singer David Draiman has said that in interviews and that it’s not about his mother
It's so cool to see the younger generation discovering this song! Never gets out of style. And the mom part has nothing to do with mothers but with society and government trying to suppress us.
This song is therapeutic asf! 😁 But also reminds me that I will not let abuse turn me into the demon that raised me 💯🤘

Honestly a great part of the song, and according to the lead singer, is not about literal abusive mother.
This song is about how society treats people who are "different." A lot of people think they are "sick" and "wrong" and want nothing to do with them.
In the middle of the song, lead singer David Draiman acts out a skit where he is being abused by his mother (not in the radio version). Finally, he builds up enough courage and hits her right back. This is used to symbolize how "mother society" abuses "her" children for not being the way "she" thinks they should. "She" keeps doing it until "her" children get sick of it and are so angry with her and themselves they go out and get revenge for it, most likely by killing the people that hurt them ("here it comes, get ready to die!") Getting "Down With The Sickness" means accepting people for who they are so we can all function better.

I had to listen to all the crap from the teachers that didn't know how to deal with it, they just wanted to medicate the hell out of him. I taught him how to cope and handle it without meds. He was a wild youngun' but so loving.

Luv the reaction. I hate people that pretend not to relate. But we all been judged, abused, and not accepted. But we persevere. Few people understand what the song is about.
For me this song is the deepest of the Disturbed songs. I love Disturbed and I still rock them all the time.
Deeper than inside the fire? It's hard to top that one. He's essentially talking about fighting the thoughts of suicide.
Fire It Up by them is about weed. I bring it up cuz they are the only metal band I know who made a song about weed, and wasn't expecting it at all.

This has NOTHING to do with David's mother. The mother he singing about is society, and what it does to it's outcasts!
I didn't see that anyone explained the song a bit. It's not about his mother. "Mother" is society in this song. Maybe someone will give a longer explanation. I'm too high and lazy right now.
Buddy, that "shocking part" should have been treated like a guitar solo. Listen str8 through that shit. But I'm just whining. I'm sure you liisten to the song more and get to absorb it. I'm glad you did this version. So many do the "sanitized" one, which skips that whole part. That completely ruins the song when that is skipped, in my opinion. (Plus the reaction isn't as fun when we don't get to see the surprise at that part LOL)
