I met Anya in real life. She was so kind and she’s (believe it or not) much prettier in real life. My eyes are similar to Anya’s and I also got bullied for them. I think she’s stunning, and she inspires me so much.
her very eyes make such ethereal look that makes her stand out. It's her signature look, so I don't get the sore losers who would bully someone for that.
She's got a weird look (in that it's different to most) but I love it, it's so unique, and unique is always better in my books. That being said, I have to disagree with the bullying part. I'd even say it's essential, it makes or breaks us. I sure as hell wouldn't be the person I am today if I didn't change schools 3 times because of bullying, it taught me perseverance. As shit as it was to experience at the time, it's an unfortunate universal truth that hardship will always teach you the most. Typically you'll find that the most sensitive and talentless people that are still working a 9-5 deep into their thirties with no deep passions really haven't endured very much pain or taken many risks throughout the life. Good and bad experiences are equally important in life.
She was bullied for her looks??? She wasn't even an ugly duckling, she looks like a super model and it was obvious that she will be gorgoeus when she grows up. Children can be so cruel.
Her looks is captivating, she is very beautiful, can’t believe anybody would bully her, it’s like one of tswift musics “ppl throw rocks at things that shine”.
I have nothing against her, I actually really like her. It just feels weird how she comes from money (not a lawyer or doctor dad, but actual money lol) but no one seems to acknowledge that. What I mean, is that when you hear she dropped out of school at 16 to pursue her dreams, or that her family comes from a third world country or whatever, it paints a picture that’s not very truthful. At least from her dad’s side (the one who’s from Argentina), they actually come from a very privileged Scottish/British community on the north of Buenos Aires. Anya has spoken about her family owning a nature sanctuary in Argentina, which is true, but she never mentions the fact that that place is part of a very exclusive gated community that her dad owns, located on a private island, only accessible by yacht. His dad was a very successful banker, and while living in Argentina Anya used to attend one of the most expensive and elite schools in Argentina, the same school Queen Maxima of the Netherlands attended many years before Anya. Being rich is not a sin, but circumstances do change when you know the full picture lol. Also, Anya says that she was born in the USA by mistake, which seems very suspicious to me. She has 2 full siblings (with whom she shares both parents), and all 3 of them were born outside of Argentina (all of their Argentinian IDs are publicly listed in the internet, and in Argentina the IDs of immigrants are different than the IDs of people born in the country). So something tells me that her parents planned the vacation to Miami to give birth in the states, but who knows, maybe I’m just wrong and they made the same miscalculation 3 times in a row and gave birth to all of their children abroad by accident lol
I admire her too but agree that an archetypal narrative has been constructed around her here. A kind of 'Ugly Duckling' meets 'Cinderella' story to give other women something to relate to and fantasize about as is so often done in Hollywood.

I love Her but, the best chameleon by far is Andrea Riseborough: By far. One can barely recognize her from roll to roll. She absolutely inhabits every roll she's completely masters all accents and nuances. Long after I realized she was my favorite actress she fooled me over and over again! It's virtually impossible to see the actresses playing the Northern Irish protagonist in Shadow Dancer and the American TV reporter in Disconnect as the same human. Or the good Nurse in the "The Kindness of Strangers" as the same hottie playing opposite of Tom Cruise in "Oblivion". The list is endless and endlessly amazing.
I fucking hate schools and the fake social hierarchies they breed. Even adults are jealous of beautiful and talented people, so of course kids will be too. On the other hand, its good motivation for her to push herself and play diverse characters. I can see her winning awards.
Nothing just happens. There are many talented people out there and they are either unknown or they struggle, sometimes for a time or they never make it.
In spite of her former films, she will always be Emma (what she portrays best), and she knows it -- which is why she is trying to expand her repertoire in new unexpected directions, to see what else she can master... some artists like that challenge, to broaden their skills, then, with a variety of skills, they have a chance for them all coming together in one masterpiece (which is defined by that coming together of all of the various smaller elements that you've been mastering). You just need a lot of those elements, and, to master them, the first step is to try them, which is why I give her an artistic pass on the ill-fitting Mad Max adventure -- as an artist, she needed to at least try it.

Even though it's never explicitly stated in the show, her portrayal of Beth in Queens Gambit is one of the best depictions of autism I've ever seen. It's not infantilizing and it deals a lot with what a lot of adult autistic people (like myself) deal with often, like relationship issues and addiction. Anya's probably NT from what I know, but she nailed it and that role really meant a lot to me.
