@liamdell6319 Time travel stories are almost never ever written well in most media, especially movies. This is why you never make time travel the mechanical focus of your story. It is a narrative tool, that's it! Movies like The 1st Terminator understood this.
The Channing Tatum Gambit wasn’t meant to be serious. His whole appearance was a really well played joke. If he had his own movie, I can all but guarantee that it would’ve been different.
I loved how he was just the cartoon character because he never got that film. The other Remy just wasn't it and it would have been a lost cameo. I loved it and the fact he was even fat shows he's not used by the others as much and just loafs around drinking.
Idk. If I was watching on my tv I would’ve fast forwarded past every Gambit scene. The accent was some of the must acoustically abusive sound waves that have ever traumatized my ear drums.
Same here I don't get the hate for Gambit in the movie. I get and can agree with the costume but to say Taylor was a better Gambit just doesn't make sense to me.
This movie is basically Ryan Reynolds's dream project. Its more or less the movie he's wanted to make for over a decade and the passion from everyone involved really seeps through. Its also just really refreshing to have a movie that was so hyped up to actually *live up* to said hype
Glad to have your reviews back. What I love the most about this movie.. it didn’t feel like a MCU you… it felt like a MARVEL movie. I felt like I was watching a comic book come to life, where anything and everything was possible, where characters could interact and actually have fun with one another. Even characters like Elektra I cared about, and the end credits where they show all the behind the scenes of the fox films, even the bad ones like daredevil and the fantastic four movies… it made me shed a tear. Like them or not.. they paved the way for what we have now.. and they will be missed.
That’s why Channing did a good job with the accent because it’s comic accurate. You can’t understand gambit . That’s the point of the character. Nobody ever understands gambit😂😂😂
I love this move. Deadpool and Wolvie are like 2 sides of the same coin. This is male mid-life crisis, the movie . And as a 40 yr old male who grew up with superhero movies, I relate.
The fact that ive wanted Gambit on screen for 24 years... I didnt hate it, which surprised me, but made me more sad that I'll never get a proper representation of him. Hes been my fave since i was a kid watching X-Men on Saturday mornings. I think the outfit actually looked like it could really work... On a skinnier/slimmer guy
Same as we saw with the unfortunate look of Captain America's costume on Walker. You need to have the right looks for it to pull some costumes off, so yeah a real skinny guy (with a "thin" enough face) might pull the looks off. What might work as transition and kinda novel (hehe) idea though might be an introduction to the X-Men by them being ripped straight out of a comic book (as in villain uses magic or something) or it being some form of accident (perfect for a post credit scene in the vein of the old times, no?). Also in the latter case they could even have two different looks and have it also so that they could return to the original costumes for a big showdown too.
Don't forget Gambit was on screen before, many years ago in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Tho that movie had its share of criticism back in the day. Plus a different actor.
I disagree that we'll never see him again. Feige has been very open about wanting to bring in the X-Men, and given how much hype gambit had following his death in X-men 97. In a perfect world, at least perfect for me, Austin Butler would be attached to the role, but I feel like in terms of capturing the character from the cartoons, Tatum did the best he could.

Also like how they did Cassandra. Don't know if it's spoilers, but it's nice to see a villain who's just a villain. Yeah, she had a tragic backstory but she was like "yeah, but I'm happy where I'm at"
Yeah the Channing Tatum Gambit scene was bad, but I think that was the point. It's like saying we should be glad we never got the full movie because this is what it would have been. We can now laugh at it and enjoy it for being bad.

I'd like to know how Reynolds was allowed to get this movie out? He *had* to have some sort of contract clause maintaining creative control. Disney has too long a history of putting message over quality.
I've just watched the movie for the second time and I'm still blown away by it. THIS is how you pay respect to those who came before! As weird as X-Men: Origins might have been - it gave us the gift of Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool. Regarding the cameo with the weird costume - I think it was meant to be a comedic element, but at the same time, give the audience a decent live action scene with this character. Since they knew it would just be this once, they went all in with it.

The thing is that you need to have a fairly solid knowledge of a shit ton of other movies for much of this to land. Still, if you went to see this, you probably have that knowledge. The other issue you mentioned could have been comics accurate and NOT been that. All involved had to have been in on the joke.
I just assumed the Gambit cameo was supposed to be an intentionally bad live action version of the character since everyone he was teamed up with (with the exception of X-22) was from a movie that people considered a bad representation of the character.
I didn't hate the **Spoiler** portrayal as much. Cartoonie as it may have been, I dug the reference/joke (even though my wife felt the face was too... well, fat.
So glad you felt that about Channing Tatum's Gambit; I thought I'd be the only one! LoL What you shared about it is EXACTLY my thoughts. The only thing I'd add, is a knit-pick that's a "Me-thing", regarding his staff (which is treated like Psylocke's psyblades, instead of his traditional staff) and explodes enemies at times when it doesn't make sense for Gambit's power. Anyway...glad I'm actually not the only one about this, yet yes, the movie was great for many reasons, and the biggest one was that it was simple, fun, entertaining (regardless of prolly too many crotch jokes more than necessary). HAHAHA Twas a breath of fresh air among all the crap and messaging from recent years. :D ;)
Thorias I instantly LIKED your video based on your critique of the inclusion of the actor/character you spoiled. Having watched the movie I agree 100% that it looked like a very poor attempt at a cosplay costume as you mentioned. Not only that but I felt like it took away from the other two returning FOX/Marvel characters that both were in multiple films that actually were made! Sure the story was all over the place and several things didn't make sense but it did bring so much excitement and laughter to me and the rest of the audience I was a part of that it was still very entertaining, I would subscribe to your channel because of how much I like this video but I already did subscribe years ago. Keep up the good work your channel is one of the only few on this platform that I regularly look forward to every week!
Deadpool and Wolverine exists right along with the other 2 Deadpool movies. They never felt connected to either the Fox, the Marvel, or the Disney Marvel movies. They make references but it's really more in a parody fashioned.
This movie mocks what they are doing. Continuing on this path is not what they need. This worked ONLY because it's Deadpool and he's essentially using the Disney formula to satirize it Edit: I wrote that after seeing the headline. He nails it. Except I liked gambit, lol.
The issue on fixing the MCU is the higher ups need to get the message on what they need to do and listen. I don't know if they got the message but I'm sure they don't care to listen.
It took at least two botched phases to ruin the MCU (phase 4 and part of 5), so it won't be fixed with a single good movie, it will take three or four consistently good movies to bring back trust and that things are on the right track again like in phases 1 to 3, and judging by other upcoming MCU movies it doesn’t seem to be the case.
It's not gonna change the MCU because a lot of the crap they're working on now is still gonna be released. They would have to scrap the Mahashala Ali Blade movie and recast that shit with Wesley Snipes. And I still don't care about Cap Falcon. He's not Captain America, just let him be Falcon! Anyway, I enjoyed the movie.
Did anyone else feel the Paradox character was a stand-in for Feige? This man offering "a place in the MCU" but effectively abandons everything from the other iterations of these characters while using the name?
I had no problem with Gambit. I thought it was awesome. His face was a little too round; they needed to adjust the cheek areas of the mask to compensate
the way I saw this, this movie was alot of things... and it worked it was a superhero movie, with super hero shenanigans it was, obviously, about deadpool and wolverine it was a massive crossover movie that felt kinda like a Super Sentai/Kamen rider vs movie it was a swan song to all the non-sony, non-MCU marvel movies it had tender moments and somewhat expanded the story of Logan and most importantly, it is a critique of modern marvel movies (and by extension Disney itself) and what they have been doing. That opening scene on what Wade was doing, and then what he DID to that is basically what current Disney is doing. Cherry on top is the announcement of Doom.
loved it sooo much, btw my bro and i looked at each other and said the same thing about gambit an dbro i thought of u lol tho it was great to se ehim, channing, makes it like its a joke lolol but honestly good action but ya no speaking lines for u bub lol
You're not alone on that hill I'm with you one hundred percent. The only thing I would have added was his head.Look really big. I don't know that was the costume. Or the camera work to make it look like that. It just didn't look good at all. Maybe. This was the bobblehead version.
Sadly this movie is the exception, not the norm. We're going right back to the M-She-U after this movie. Why? Because this movie would've never happened under Bob Iger. This movie was a Bob Capek greenlight. Apprently they didn't even want Wolverine as Kevin tried to convince Hugh to back out. This movie is good IN SPITE of Disney not because of it.
It’s gonna take more than one good movie to save the MCU. The MCU needs to change and this movie looks like it’s a step in that direction. For better or worse.
I agree with the review. Definitely 9/10 or 8/10 in my book. It’s not perfect as I felt like there was still a lot for them to play around with. I mean they gave Ryan Reynolds’s access to the whole mcu which is a lot. The reason it’s not a perfect score is because of the pre established characters and I know that Ryan reynolds and tj miller have beef. But the characters from the first two movies were barely in it. I understand about Josh brolin not being in the film because they probably used that budget on Chris evans and other characters. Also the Peter pool scene didn’t really land for me personally. It just came out of left field as the writers probably ran themselves into a corner on how an army of Deadpool fight could end as it would be impossible due to both sides healing factor. Overall the film made me laugh and feel things I wasn’t expecting. Deadpool is the only character who can give great exposition by stopping a scene and yap about it. Also the scenes with Wolverine and how he failed were the most touching as a fan of the X-men movies you could see if days of future past went wrong and it was his fault for it
Honestly i think the reasons are...all of the above of what you listed. Combined with the deadpool movies being just...movies, sure theres lessons in there but it doesn't lecture the audience. The fact that is had wesley snipes Blade for example is...big oof for marvel. Since Blade might be the easiest thing they could possible do, get a big buff black dude, make him the coolest thing ever, fight vampires, print money.
First movie I’ve gone to the theatres to see in ages and the first Marvel product I’ve watched since Endgame. Haven’t watched a single show or movie. It’s great… if Marvel can resist the temptation to keep being Marvel they might be able to put out some watchable stuff again.
I came out of it wholly satisfied. It was a good Deadpool movie. It was a good X-Men movie. It was a good ensemble movie. It was a good multiverse movie. It was a good superhero movie. Now, can we really _dream_ that the MCU will learn the lesson? I highly doubt it. Because, just like Star Wars with Kennedy and Iger, just like Star Trek with Kurtzman and Abrams, the people that brought the whole thing crashing down, Feige and Iger, are still there.
Yeeeeeeah-- love you, but you can die on that hill then😆. I'm a MASSIVE Gambit Stan, and even i can laugh at the Gambit we got. That was the joke. And we're waiting for him to just...get shit on and die, but his action was sick as fuck! I find the humor. I love that Channing has such a healthy sense of humor.
I watched the movie in its 1st opening day here in my country. I liked it a lot, RR and HJ are born for those characters and that was great sendoff to those + Fox movies. SPOILER shows that not every superhero costume is gonna look great onscreen and SPOILER is way too buffed for that role. I enjoyed the villain, i think the actress did amazing job. I dont think MCU's path to fixing will go anywhere- as we seen after Endgame, MCU has some successess but they tried to put so many eggs in one basket with 3rd and 4th grade characters that mass viewer doesnt wanna watch- Eternals and cosmic beings, Blade and vampires, Marvels and mutants, Kang and multiverse and time travel, finishing the stories of some of the og Avengers and so on... First three phases worked because we had 1 or 2 movies per year that felt like an event and lead to the bigger story. Now, where the celestial being from Eternals leads to? What about Thunderbolts- who even asked about those? Mutants? Next two Avengers movies? What about Captain Marvel, Thor and Dr Strange? (yes, i watched the stuff from SDCC and the movies, it's just rhetorical questions). I think Kevin Feige said F you to every1 that watches those movies to see the bigger story and that MCU is going on their own path and lots of peolple said we out, MCU start making tons of shows and movies that were with questionable quality and now they need to start fixing it. Is it possible? Probably, especially with the announces from SDCC and potential stuff thats coming from Disney Day few months ahead of us.
This movie is in the unique position of doing 2 things at once. It respects the ending of logan, while violating the corpse. It can poke fun at the multiverse, while fully being a multiverse film.
Idk if that was also a shot at all time travel movies. Back to the future, is not only the best time traveling movies, BTTF is one of the best trilogies of all time. BTTF Is neck and neck with Star Wars original trilogy. Is there problems with BTTF yes. I'm not going to say the trilogy is perfect. It's still entertaining, and better than most stuff released from Hollywood. All the reasons you listed off, I think are all the reasons why ppl were hyped for Deadpool and Wolverine. I'm going to wait to watch Deadpool and Wolverine. Bc Hollywood doesn't deserve my 💰. I have an app on my phone, to where I can watch movies and shows for free. Even new releases. It's usually a month after release. Of course I haven't watched any of them. I will watch Deadpool and Wolverine.

I thought gambits costume and accent was supposed to be schlocky🤷. Like they were saying "this is probably what we would've ended up with ".
The theater I was in applauded multiple times and it was full of comic nerds
I think they made gambit like that on purpose with the over the top costume and voice i dig it
I did love how many of the old casts they brought back, pyro was a surprise and his deflation of jonny was just hilarious.
I loved the digs at the post Endgame MCU. Fun movie!
Deadpool and Wolverine exists right along with the other 2 Deadpool movies.
They never felt connected to either the Fox, the Marvel, or the Disney Marvel movies.
They make references but it's really more in a parody fashioned.
Now I’m definitely pumped to see this movie. Always enjoy watching your reviews.
This movie mocks what they are doing. Continuing on this path is not what they need. This worked ONLY because it's Deadpool and he's essentially using the Disney formula to satirize it
Edit: I wrote that after seeing the headline. He nails it. Except I liked gambit, lol.
The opening scene was cheifs kiss
i wanted to get up and dance to xD
I enjoyed the joke, "pick an accent and go with it.". Rumors about the Origins movie scenes remade being a bridge too far for Feige seem to be true.
You hit the nail on the head! Definitely the fact feige was mostly out of the picture on this one was the big selling point!
I just want a Cavill-Verin & Nicepool movie
Cavil looked amazing in that scene!!
Well since Kevin Figi (however you spell it) told Hugh Jackman to take a hike . . . now it will never be 'fixed"
TBF, Hugh Jackman can't play Wolverine forever
@@TheBackseatersad but true.
Good to see you back. Proceed sir!
I loved Channing in this movie! He was awesome and his boomhauer accent was hilarious
Channing Tatum's Gambit was great, he hit the accent right too.. though i do agree with the costume part.
This movie was sooooo great, that the next 10 are going to be pure garbage xD
It's not gonna change the MCU because a lot of the crap they're working on now is still gonna be released. They would have to scrap the Mahashala Ali Blade movie and recast that shit with Wesley Snipes. And I still don't care about Cap Falcon. He's not Captain America, just let him be Falcon! Anyway, I enjoyed the movie.
I think Ali as Blade could work, they just need a better script for him to work with
You are right about Cap Falcon though
@@TheBackseater Captain Terrorist Simp you mean xD
@@NephritduGrey Yes.
Did anyone else feel the Paradox character was a stand-in for Feige?
This man offering "a place in the MCU" but effectively abandons everything from the other iterations of these characters while using the name?
I had no problem with Gambit. I thought it was awesome. His face was a little too round; they needed to adjust the cheek areas of the mask to compensate
the way I saw this, this movie was alot of things... and it worked
it was a superhero movie, with super hero shenanigans
it was, obviously, about deadpool and wolverine
it was a massive crossover movie that felt kinda like a Super Sentai/Kamen rider vs movie
it was a swan song to all the non-sony, non-MCU marvel movies
it had tender moments and somewhat expanded the story of Logan
and most importantly, it is a critique of modern marvel movies (and by extension Disney itself) and what they have been doing. That opening scene on what Wade was doing, and then what he DID to that is basically what current Disney is doing. Cherry on top is the announcement of Doom.
ah... Yes... We have a savior.
Deadpool. Who'd have thought it'd be him, too?
I hated having to wait 3 days to watch this but I'm glad I waited till I'd seen deadpool
loved it sooo much, btw my bro and i looked at each other and said the same thing about gambit an dbro i thought of u lol tho it was great to se ehim, channing, makes it like its a joke lolol but honestly good action but ya no speaking lines for u bub lol
Channing Tatum's Gambit accent was so off me. Sounded like he was trying too hard lol
i love this movie it was awesome
Probably not gonna see this in theater. Ill enjoy it more in my living room. Thanks for the review though!
It’s gonna take more than one good movie to save the MCU. The MCU needs to change and this movie looks like it’s a step in that direction. For better or worse.
Ok now that you Had your fun. it is time for a Batwoman rewatch
me and my family where in tears this movie was so funny.
also no one actually cares about Gambit
Fox? Must be code to avoid being bumped. Great review! Thank you.
If Taika directed this, the Wolverine and X-23 scene would have been interrupted by someone making some dumb ass joke and ruining the entire moment.
This was the nice and final send off for the fox marvel era.
Cassandra Nova should have been played by Helen Mirren or Martha Stewart.
was good to see wesley snipes as blade again!
There is no "fixing" marvel.
Gambit was cool. 3 times better as in old animations. Costume was great either.
Been waiting on your review. I loved this film
I wanted to turn around and watch it again. But I spent too much money on food
First movie I’ve gone to the theatres to see in ages and the first Marvel product I’ve watched since Endgame. Haven’t watched a single show or movie. It’s great… if Marvel can resist the temptation to keep being Marvel they might be able to put out some watchable stuff again.
Great movie very entertaining, props to Ryan and Hugh.
Thanks
I came out of it wholly satisfied. It was a good Deadpool movie. It was a good X-Men movie. It was a good ensemble movie. It was a good multiverse movie. It was a good superhero movie.
Now, can we really _dream_ that the MCU will learn the lesson? I highly doubt it. Because, just like Star Wars with Kennedy and Iger, just like Star Trek with Kurtzman and Abrams, the people that brought the whole thing crashing down, Feige and Iger, are still there.
Excellent Review and analysis 🖖🏽
Yea my second channel....my last 4-5 vids have dropped in views compared to every video before those...the algo is been way off
Yeeeeeeah-- love you, but you can die on that hill then😆.
AY UP THORIAS
I didn’t mind Remy but yeah he could’ve been better
This movie is in the unique position of doing 2 things at once. It respects the ending of logan, while violating the corpse. It can poke fun at the multiverse, while fully being a multiverse film.
YUP. It's both respectful and disrespectful at the same exact time. It found that balance.
There is no fixing Marvel. This is just a flash in the pan from Ryan Renolds who is a marketing genius and really likes his character Deadpool.
Dint we saw what happen last time Marvel took from Deadpool, the never ending over joking humor ?
A labor of love.
