Small Faces and The Who seemed to be pretty close in the 60s. Steve Marriott had stories. Ronnie Lane and Pete Townsend were great friends where Townsend played on his solo album. Whatcha Gonna Do About It had Townsend do the guitar solo and he went to play with Ian McLagan on a live performance where McLagan explained it. Kenney Jones was the later drummer for The Who.
Re. the song Kenney was recording: It is pretty bland and generic, but think about what John was saying. He liked going over to the US because there he was still treated like a rock star, whereas in the UK he was just another has-been because the British music industry kept changing and has always been about trendiness and whatever's "hot" this week. John and Kenney and the rest of their generation of musicians had to keep earning their money somehow, so they did that by recording whatever the music industry dictated was trendy. Besides, it was the 80s, and that decade was a period of mediocrity pretty much everywhere, like a bad hangover from the creativity and excesses of the 60s and 70s. (Not to mention bad haircuts and ugly clothes)
It is indeed a Warwick Thumb! A very early model with a one-piece bridge. John owned and played a few, but because he wasn't active with The Who at the time it isn't very well documented.
What is this session for? I love Kenny's work w Faces and Small Faces and I dont recall a solo KJ album. He did join that fake supergroup The Law after the demise of (smirk, chortle) The Firm.
I know! Proper shit ! This is what happens when ego's run riot! Youre a good drummer Kenny, but a singer/songwriter you are NOT! Step away from the vocal mic!
Love their drum and bass jam. Had no idea these guys were such good mates.

Mel collins of King Crimson, Camel, and Alan Parsons Project!!!!! I just worked with him on a record.. he is amazing
the Sax player was probably thinking what the fuck am I supposed to play on this shite. Still enjoyed the video it’s almost spinal type
He was probably like, "Fuck it. I'm here, and I'm gonna make some shit happen, and have beers afterwards."

Did Kenney Jones play percussion with Billy Bragg around this era? Thought I saw his name on the credits of Talking With The Taxman about poetry.

The song and sound is de rigueur for the ‘80s.
Horrible! Bland and soulless.
What an awful decade it was for music generally.
After hearing "Tainted Love" in Malaga in '82, I promptly nicknamed the time I was in, "The Decade the Music Died".
The 80s were awesome
