If, like me... you have a Nintendo Switch Console with wobbly Joy-Con controllers and would like to make them firm? I have an easy and quick fix for you.
You can apply the same solution to the Joy-Con controller adapters as well.
Let me know if it works for you...
ps. if you hadn't noticed Wobbly shit pisses me off !

Thanks man!

I'm so overjoyed I can kiss you. Thank you for this fix. It was 4 pieces on the left and 3 on the right for me. It feels like a solid piece of tech now. I owe you a beer my friend.
Glad it works. It does make the unit feel all round more solid.
Had a very slight wobble in the right joycon, left was solid. This fixed it perfectly, and I literally never remove the joycons as I have pro controllers so massive thumbs up. Great vid
Thanks...glad It worked for you joe.
*wait...*
Thanks for this it works perfectly. I didn't have vinyl so I used tape like you said and its super solid now
Excellent...
@@SkadollaX dude thx so much! İt worked for me your awesome
Props for the easy fix. My switch has the EXACT issue in the same places. Was about to send them in. Thank you
Makes me wonder if it just bothers some people more than others.
SkadollaX I thought the same thing. I think some people are fine with it.
Seriously i heard about this methid a year ago and didnt wanna do it cause i thought it would be huge rows of tape up the side but u hardly even notice and im so appreciative😁 u just got a new subscriber x
Thanks, glad you have it sorted...
Thank you so much for fixing my switch! Can't believe how easy it was and how good it's working
You r most welcome
Wow you made my day, week and months to come! Thanks a lot :D
Thanks for the feedback, good to hear you've resolved it.
This actually worked, my dude. Thanks a bunch!
Good to hear
Thanks bro, I just got one and it was doing this, now I can finally try to beat Zelda lol
Ha ha....puts your mind to rest, focus on the games now
You can never beat zelda. Your grandchildrens grandchildren will get 5%
@@juew3667 that doesn't make any sense
This is amazing. I managed to find the exact same vinyl roll as yours, bought it and now in addition to the fact that it looks much better than duct tape, all the wobbling is gone and the switch feels firm. Thanks!
That's excellent.
You happen to know the brand of the vinyl roll, or at least where it was bought?
Audew, on Amazon ;)
atidiaX Hey, I just did the same thing, but I had some concerns about the tape maybe doing some harm. So, two months later, have you noticed any problems? Are you still using the tape method?
Yeh, just took a look for you and absolutely no harm. No marks of any kind. Just dont stick anything on the back of the device as you coild end up removing surface material. The back of the switch doesn't cope well with adhesives...
Thank you so much. I’m that kind of person that gets annoyed be little things. I used blue tape and now it feels really solid. The left joy con can still wobble up ad down just a little bit but it’s not as big as a problem as the wobbling that was fixed thanks to your tip.
You're welcome...with regards to the little things, this gets better as you age. Granted you keep working on it. Today blue tape, tomorrow no tape at all.
hey man thanks for the great tip! My wobble is gone now solid as a rock! I owe you!!! Cheers from Kuala Lumpur!!
You are welcom, have a Nasi Lemak on me :) yum
@@SkadollaX oh wow youve been to malaysia? Next time you come i do have a bnb for you in Pahang! Special price for ya for fixing my switch! *winks 😊 your all welcome!!!
Glad I stumbled across this by accident. Used black electrical tape, 2 layers as instructed. Feels nice and solid now. Great tip!
You're welcome
Yo! This was the best video ever buddy thanks so much from my not wobbly switch in Canada!! Cheers!
you are welcome
I thought it's just me being OCD but I'm glad that others have the same thought. Glad there's a fix!
we are many
Oh may god, I was hating that sound big time, Just fixed thanks to you, thanks man
All good
wow, thank you so much for this! I was considering calling nintendo and asking about this, but I'm really glad I did a little research first
Good to hear it helped
Thank you! I didn't have Vynil but I have a buncha comic book character stickers so I cut up a spider man sticker and had to use like 3 or 4 pieces and it worked like a charm! Love you brotha!
Awesome...
Hi man, thanks for the trick. So after that fix your Joycons does not moving at all? because after the tape my joy cons still move very very little, but only if i used reasonable strength
In my opinion it's reasonable for there to be minor movement when you apply reasonable strength, otherwise if it is still bothering you? then you can try making it thicker again or better yet positioning some tape at the top of the unit and/or joy-con. This will help to balance it out and potentially make it even tighter.
Dude thank you so much, i didn't like to play portable mode because of this reason, but thanks to your video is fixed!
All good, enjoy...
This helped alot thank you.
Welcome
So i shouldn't worry too much about the minor movement of my left joy con? Since i notice a lot of people have the same problem..... Im constantly looking at if to see if im just trippin haha
They mostly all have some wiggle, prolly varies from minor to major but all will do it to some degree. And if not now maybe later when things get used and stretch. At least with the tape/vinyl you can resolve it.
Thanks for the reply my good man. Now i can put my mind at ease :)
Mine to
Froilanstois
I thought it was normal, had my switch for over a year now 🤷♂️
Regular vinyl works just fine! Thanks bro! And it looks sleeker have to get up super close to even notice it.
Sad to see people still having this problem so long after launch but glad to see the solution still helps
Thanks you so much. This worked so well!!
I know, right....hopefully the next iterations of the console are snug and fit securely for people.
Fantastic, my right Joycon is perfect now! Some black tape and its rock solid. Thank you!
All Right then..
Works perfectly! Thanks so much!
Nice...
so the tape trick worked for me but i feel like i shouldnt have to tape a brand new console lol do you think its worth sending in for repairs or just keep taping it up cus that does resolve the issue for me. or is it probably not worth the time and effort to even send it in when the tape can fix it enough idk lol
From my experiences in life....nothing's perfect and if something you have is otherwise working as it should then sometimes better the devil you know. A little tiny bit of tape once every now and then is fine for me. It's up to you and if the tapes coming off then try something else. I rarely ever needed to replace mine.
SkadollaX taping up a $300 tech product is ridiculous.
Would you tape up an iPad or iPhone? Ridiculous.
If you're botherd by a slight wiggle (that's perfectly NORMAL by the way) send the damned thing to Nintendo for a repair.
It's a trvp
Most peoples switches are like it, it’s normal don’t worry 😉 mines like it aswell 😊
Not sure about this argument. I’m an old school gamer and almost every controller I’ve ever owned has some form of movement, either from day of purchase or through use/forces applied to them over time. Now the switch lite puts an end to this type of wobble for those looking for even more solidity.
Great fix. Thanks!
Thanks
It worked! Thank you so much!!
Cool, good to know, enjoy.
Thank you so much!!! It works like a charm!
Thanks for the feedback, glad it worked for you.
I’ve got the same problem. Would this be fixed by buying a new pair of joy cons or is it the rails on the switch that are causing the issue?
Can be a bit of both. My second pair of joy ons were better than the first, no guarantees...
wow great tutorial really appreciate it dude
You are welcome and thank you...
Thank you for curing my OCD
O C D
It's easy as, 1 2 3
As simple as, do re mi
O C D, 1 2 3
This really helped. Thanks 😀
Awesome
Thanks for the vid. Simple and effective solution!
Great....
blowdrobro the only solution is to send it to Nintendo for repair... not to tape up your $300 Switch like it's cardboard.
Thanks for the tip it really helped! I use clear Scotch tape because it's all I had, I think it is thinner because it took 5 pieces on the left and 4 on the right but it worked well I just might have to replace it as it wears away.
Whatever works but if you feel slapping too much tape ontop of each other might not last as long then try finding a thicker tape or thin sheets of adhesive rubber.
Man I love you so much. It worked
Wow, interesting that after so long this is still an issue for people and new switch units. Having said that the DS 3DS wobble was never fixed by Nintendo either... thanks Gab for the feedback.
My left joy con doesn't wiggle, but can be slightly moved up and down when locked in to place, you can really notice it when adjusting the volume on the console or by pressing the sleep button, do you think this would help?
It may help, try it and let us know how it works out.
South Eastern survivalist It worked so far :) I just hope the black tape stays in place forever haha
Mine does that and wobbles i paid 300 for this wth nintendo? XD
YOOO THIS ACTUALLY WORKED THANKS SO MUCH MAN!!
Glad to hear it had a positive effect for you..
I didn't mind the wobble. But lately, my 2 pairs of Joycons have started to disconnect on handheld mode if my grip becomes too intense. It has gotten to the point where I can't play in handheld mode unless I put my Switch in a thick one piece hard shell. I should try this later, looks pretty nifty. Thanks! :)
How did it pan out for you?
@@SkadollaX It works like a charm, thanks! I've been linking people to your video whenever this topic comes up. :)
Oh this is awesome, all my joycons are disconnecting on the right side and there is considerable wobble.... Imma do this when I wake up tomorrow. Thanks guys. From a low income person who LOVES their switch!!!!
Tried this and it works. Used vinyl insulation tape. Thank you!
Always good to hear about happy outcomes. Good work!
thank you so much brooo.. really happy that i figure out this vidio :)
:) you is welcome.
Yep this worked 100%. Thank you so much.
Welcome 👍
I get the Nintendo Switch OLED and it has the same problems
Thank you for this easy and smart solution
No problems.
all switches have it some on the left some on the right
THANK YOU! I jut got a switch for my bday and the joycons in the switch wobble a bit and it triggers me and it feels flimsy
Pull the trigger and give it some tape.
I LOVE YOU, about a week ago I bought my 3rd Switch. 2 previous ones had this problem but waaaay more than the should, after getting the third one I've been soo stressed because it was wobbly, I just taped both sides with 2 layers of electrical tape and I'm in haeven
Awesome
Does this fix the connection when in handheld mode where the joycon wobble upwards slightly therefore losing the connection?
Yeh not sure but its worth a shot if its out of warranty, otherwise send it in for repair. No harm trying a peice of tape to test it out first.
SkadollaX will do, I have 2 right joycon, one out of warranty and the other still in warranty, one works when on the switch the other no
Thanks helped a lot :)
Happy Gaming
Yay, it worked! Only used one piece of electrical tape. They're still sending me a new JoyCon though. Win/Win, I suppose. Thanks a lot!
Only a slight adjustment needed on your unit. It varies quite a bit from console to console.
TechWalker how did u get them to send u another one?
mymoney731 I called them. I'm not getting a replacement anymore though, I didn't want to have to send mine in first and have no JoyCon while I waited for the replacement.
Did you just tell them u had a wobble on the joycon and they agreed to give u another one because that's what I want to do
mymoney731 Yes, I told them that my JoyCon was wobbly
Worked for me, thanks!
Awesome, thanks for the feedback
Hi.
I was just wondering, do you still use tape? If so, do they still feel firm or do they wobble even with the tape? And do your joycons wobble more now when you remove the tape?
Recently...I removed the original vinyl/tape.
And to answer your concerns;
My Joycons did not wobble at all while using the method in my video. And they did not loosen any further at any stage.
What I did discover after removing the vinyl/tape tho, was....
My joy-cons now felt better ? The amount of wiggle had been reduced enough that it no longer bothered me.
It is therefore possible, that, after months of using viny and/or tape, the rails and plastic have been altered, resulting in a firmer fit.
Any which way you look at it, you cant lose....as there is no resultant harm to come from this, only positives.
Enjoy..
SkadollaX thanks!! I will definetely use this method now.
I used double-sided tape, putting a tiny bit of soft paper on the side not sticking to the rail. I can see little bits of white, but I don't care. It works. I couldn't be more glad.
Whatever works, good to see people morphing the idea into something suitable for them.
For me i wouldnt call it much of a wobble but it does slightly just very slightly move out not enough to see but u can feel it can i use the same fix
Yeh absolutely give it a go, costs nothing to try, everything to gain nothing to lose. Good luck.
So mines was like that and I notice the screws that hold the track the joy con's go in was lose and the screws needed to be tightened
Good find, unfortunately for many that doesn't appear to be the cause. But thanks for input. I guess its worth checking before using the vinyl method.
What if I only have this issue with a specific joycon? I have one with my original left but not my new left. Will this still fix that?
Try putting it on the joycon instead of the switch unit
@@SkadollaX wow i’m stupid lol didn’t even think about that. tried it and so far it works perfectly! thank you so much for this. you’re doing God’s work
@@TheNova51 @The Nova Thanks for letting me know, thats good to hear. You made me laugh a bit :)
Does it need to be electrical tape? Or can i just use the kind of tape everyone has at home?
You can use anything you like, just don't leave adhesive material on the back of the unit as this is both unnecessary and will likely cause damage to the surface.
SkadollaX sounds good. Thanks for the quick response
Just perfect I solve the problem with your video, thank!
You are welcome
I know that this video is not about this but can I stop my analog stick wobblying??? is the one on the Right ? can I fix this
No idea on that issue. I do not have the problem and so cannot comment. I'd say send it back in...
great and easy solution!
Thanks Connor, sorry for the late reply.
Problems between switchs normal switch has wobbly joycons switch lite if it dyed it dyes forever but not with the switch oled
Amazing really works what I just checked. I just put two layers and I'm very tight. without any movement
Good work...
im so thankful !!!!
You r most welcome...
What's the TLDW version?
Starts @ 2:14
looks like that the straps couses the wiggle problem. by the way extra bought joycons worked fine the one that come with the console are the trouble ones. i wouldnt use at all the straps on the joycons to make them bigger it seems they are damaging the surface of the connecting part of the joycon.
Not sure what you mean by straps causing wiggle problem. The problem is directly related to the varying spaces generated between the controller and the console, likely caused in the manufacturing process for the joy-cons (distance/variance between the rails on the joy-cons and the plastic). I've tried various joy-cons on mine and they all feel different, with regards to the amount of wiggle room. I have, since posting this video, managed to source a set of controllers that are much sturdier than my original ones....purchased many months later. I'm sure Nintendo will continue to refine and resolve these kinds of problems by releasing better made versions of them. Case in point, these joy-cons I just purchased for the release of Mario Kart do not suffer signal drop off and barely wiggle at all.
Having said that, plastic changes shape with use through heat/pressure and if these joy-cons stretch , to the point the amount of wiggle is bothering you then simply use the method in this video to keep things solid.
Thank u so much 👍
Merry Christmas
Thank you!
Welcome
TY SO MUCH
You are welcome, glad it's sorted.
wow dude thank you so much it works! I used some bandage type of tape thank you!
its really ugly (because its white) but it works!
Glad its sorted..
Omg I made it work. Thank you very much, I used black electrical tape
That's good to hear, enjoy
Would it be possible if someone could send me a link where I could get the vinyl tape for the Nintendo switch
You can use anything...the vinyl is just an example. You might try black electrical tape to start with.
SkadollaX so any ordinary electric tape or duct tape will work?
Anything that is adhesive and closes your gaps is fine.
If go to the store that i buy nitendo switch is there another solution;
not that I'm aware of...
Have you come across a problem while taking the joycons out while also using this fix?
Nope. What I did experience is that I know longer needed to use the tape/vinyl method after a period of time. A combination of diminishing care factor as the device aged, coupled with a potentially firmer fit due to the shape shifting caused over time by way of the tape method used in my video. Ultimately ended as a win win situation. Kind of like plastering a broken arm. My switch is now tape free :)
Thank you thank you, THANK YOU, I used tape, little unsightly, but honestly I don't care, just thank you dude!
Yeh your welcome. Tho I can barely even see the black vinyl on mine. Its difficult to notice its even there. What did you use..?
thank you!!!!
No problem...
Will this fix my left joy con sliding off without pressing the button?
It would help but not stop it. You need to send it in for that problem...
SkadollaX if your joy cons ever slide off without the button being pressed you'll have to get it replaced because the clicking feature has been worn meaning your joy cons can no longer be locked in place, unless you open up your joy con and replace the worn piece
Agreed, but if you don't want to send them in for repair then there are other work around s...as you mentioned in your reply.
I had this problem but I refuse to put tape on a brand new $300 console.
I returned it and the new one is nice and snug with no play, yet they slide off easily.
That's great to hear...
SkadollaX I believe I read somewhere that 1 in every 5 Switch consoles have this problem.
I have the same problem. I hope this will fix. Btw I just bought mine like a week ago
Looks like it’s a feature then, much like the DS wobble. Let us know how it goes...
You can put tape over the inside of the rail also
Yes
My left joy con wobbly a bit and it annoys tf out of me. Then i bought another one with opposite color and it does not wobble at all. I just kept the original unit at spare. Yeah i think a lot of people have this problem.
certainly appears that way here
is it possible to get this on amazon?
Just use anything similar...tape, contact paper, etc
I'm making my joycons stay on the tablet.
My last ones broke because one of them broke because one of them had a broken latch.
Mine got replaced today.
Do the new ones fit any more securely than the previous set?
My woddle has got so bad impossible to play any games as the controller gets disconnected :( Nintendo said they'll fix it guess I will see.
Did they fix it?
@@SkadollaX I never sent it in. They said they would but I just added a piece of paper in it and it basically stopped it
my joycons make a creaking sound because of been loose, ill try it out to see if it stops the noise.
Yes mine did also...but after using the fix in my video the sound you described should be gone.
confirming that it works perfectly, feels solid now! :)
My joy cons became wobbly after using their official carrying case... so i'm not sure wether that is the cause, or they just simple wobble over time :S
They will likely develop some form of wobble eventually. Simply by way of force, heat and the basic fact they r made out of plastic.
I have switch for 2 days now and my right joycon started to wobble and squeak. Ill try it one time when Ill have black tape. Ill be back
How'd you go?
ahh... so... I did not fixed it. It still squeaks and left side is loose as fuck. Whole plastic rail is mofing and clicking
@@vaelix2108 what was the outcome here, did you ever resolve it?
@@SkadollaX yup, it just stopped like month later or 2
I guess that plastic just rubbed itself out and it made more room for movement
But its still moving
But I dont care about it, its just a charm of those consoles
Mines like it, I think everyones are well most.
It’s mostly the left joycon
Every switch I’ve ever handled has it to some degree. Left, right or both, made worse by variable forces applied to the controllers based on the player using the device. Not to mention some move around more than others fresh out of the box.
I found a fix, buy a grip. I got an orzly one and it works great. I would reccoment their pack cause the price is great. You pay 20dollars and get a grip case earbuds stylus/pen and game case and 2 screen protectors(tempered glass
Yes, whatever does the trick but if you are looking to spend nothing then just grab a tiny bit of tape.
I'm telling your mum that you pulled out the middles finger on the Nintendo switch
Her name is Mario
does anyone know what causes this to happen?
Just variations in building the units. It is normal for a device with the build quality of the Nintendo Switch. It only really affects those prone to movements and wiggle, only a percentage of the total population actually cares.
my right joycon is perfectly fine but my left one is a tiny bit wobbly
Left me know if this works for you
@@SkadollaX oh, it did, thanks a lot! :)
Good news :)
But why does one side wiggle more than the other
Not sure
SkadollaX Will the tape leave any mildew or mess up the switch
If you use adhesive on the rear of the device it can definitely cause issues and leave marks. Many who purchased adhesive skins at launch discovered this the hard way. No problems here, just do as I do in the video.
Ive heard nintendo will replace it if you get in touch, ive done this, ill update this comment about whether they replace it or not and if the replacement has issues
Great let us know the outcome
@@SkadollaX They didnt replace it lol, the person who said they will must have been lying or got lucky, they've offered me a troubleshoot
@@SkadollaX I cant help but laugh at there response but at the same time im angry. They told me to do stuff like "make sure your switch is updated" "make sure the joycons are fully charged" "dont have your switch near an aquarium" Clearly just a copy and paste, its like theyre making it into some sort of joke, ill copy and paste the full thing
1. Ensure your console has the latest system version.
2. Ensure the Joy-Con controllers are charged.
3. Decrease the distance between the Joy-Con and the Nintendo Switch console.
4. Ensure that the Nintendo Switch console is placed to minimize interference with the Joy-Con. It is best if the Nintendo Switch console is placed out in the open and that it is not:
5. ◦Behind a TV
◦Near an aquarium
◦Placed in or under a metal object
◦Pressed against a large amount of wires and cords
◦Within three to four feet (1-1.5 metres) of another wireless device, such as a wireless speaker or a wireless access point.
5. Check for possible sources of interference and turn them off. Interference can be caused by devices, such as:
◦Laptops, tablets, etc.
◦Wireless headsets
◦Wireless printers
◦Microwaves
◦Wireless speakers
◦Cordless phones
◦USB 3.0-compatible devices such as hard drives, thumb drives, LAN adapters, etc.
@@he-dp3mk My video is from way back when the system launched. Back then there was an issue with the join cons briefly losing connectivity (joycon drift) as well as a problem with distance from the console. It appears from your reply they’ve confused your issue with this, which is apparently still plaguing them...
“ A new class action lawsuit has been filed against Nintendo of America regarding the Switch's Joy-Con drift. The lawsuit was filed in a Seattle court, Polygon reported, and claims that the Switch is "defective" due to the Joy-Con controllers registering movement without user command.”
Can u use duck tape plz help
Whatever works...thickness is all that counts. If duct tape isn't too thick then of course, it makes no difference. Always remember...front and back of switch don't like glue and/or tack. So just keep to sticking things on the side, just like in my vide.
Can i use normal tape?
Yes no problem
@@SkadollaX so its safe to use normal tape since i dont have electrical tape?
@@SkadollaX oh so i just did it i dont think its as secure as electrical tape but it fixed the wobble
Ok cool. Just swap it out with something better when/if you feel the need to at a later stage. And game on!

omg i could kiss you! thank you so much! was driving me insane during skyrim!
You are welcome. It's such a small thing but annoying as hell if this kind of issue bothers you. I'm glad it's helping people with their switch consoles :)
LOL i'm playing skyrim too and its annoying me sadly this fix doesn't help me i might send my switch in
I changed the shells of the joycons and the tablet , it fixed all the wobble
That's good news, good to hear.
is there anyone who doesn't have this issue? I just noticed it on the left side of the switch and I was thinking about bringing it in to get a replacement if it's even necessary. I just hope this is a normal thing lol
I think its pretty normal and in time will only worsen as things stretch and lose their form. At least we can eliminate it easily enough. Nintendo ds, 3ds, etc had wobbly top end screens. Even after it was brought to their attention nintendo never resolved the issue.
Nikola Semjanov enjoy your Switch and stop bitching lol.
So many sissies bothered by the smallest things.
OCD CURED.
Thats a relief.
