@2:04 "I had to move this one ribbon cable out of the way..." this is the most delicate step of the procedure thus far and you don't even show it or what you used to do it
Brian Ferguson, yes! Me too. I thought it was just another ol cable. So I managed to do it with ease and was able to put the new analog stick in place. One problem. I can’t put the cable back in place. So I’m pretty much stuck because I can’t find a professional joy con repair anywhere. 😥
@@landonjohnson35 Im willing to fix my right joystick it broke too and im a little thrilled about that problem, havent you tried with some tweezers? in the video he did with the joystick flexor (Ribbon) just grab the ribbon carefully because these ribbons or flexors can get easily scratched, It really pisses me off to say this but this is the most fragile console ever I barely use the switch and when I use it I dont move the joystick that hard I think Nintendo failed us with the quality
Yeah, makes the whole video useless. It's the most important part!
its 2nd from the left ribbon plugged into the pcb of the joycon. theres a small flap that llocks it into place. lift it up gently and the ribbon comes loose.
Thought the same
You can get a 2-pack of replacement Joycons now on Amazon for $15 (disclaimer - I will get a commission off this) - amzn.to/2KUmdwS
Hey, has your joycon developed some problems or is it still working fine since the release of this video?
Thank you for the tips! I have one remark though. Of the 4 (+1) screws you unscrew on the inside the you only need to unscrew the 3 bronze coloured ones, the plate comes off as intended and you don't release the board that holds the buttons in place. If you remove al 5 (including the 2 smaller, grey ones), you release the board and your buttons might pop out. Getting them back into place can be challenging if you don't have the correct tools.
do not remove all those screws. First controller took me a while to get back together because it all comes apart if you remove the 5 screws. Second controller I only removed the 3 and was able to do the entire controller in about 5 minutes, even with a 2 yr old talking in my ear about how he wanted to fix the game and taking all my tools.
As a confirmed tech-know-nothing I'm super proud to have been able to use your video to replace my daughters right joy con stick. Took me less than ten minutes and working perfectly! Thank you!
This shows you how to repair the LEFT controller stick. I had broken both, and the RIGHT stick is different (only 3 internal screws, not 5 as depicted). One of the ribbon cables pulled out due to me not noticing the different configuration and it was an absolute nightmare to get it reconnected. I would consider making note of this in your video.
Dosent even work for the left one, I bought it and the screws just wouldn't come out
Dang
Make sure you calibrate the joycon after replacing it
Yozni Jones thanks! I have a drifting problem so you tips are well appreciated!
Yeah and it won’t work if you have dust inside that u can’t really fix unless you have the equipment u need
How do you calibrate it
Jose Salazar google it
One of my joycon’s are so broken I can’t even finish the Calibration
Hey thanks so much for this. Minimal hardware repair experience but this helped a lot and made it as quick and painless as it could be. Joy con works good as new, thanks again!
I just did this by following your video for my son's switch. I have zero tech experience and just ordered a kit off of amazon, followed your video and viola! All fixed and working. Trust me folks, if I can do it, you can too. Thanks for the video!
My joycon walked me into a lavafall. I haven't played Minecraft since 😭
got the same problem
Mine is making me target EVERYONE in Dark Souls at random, as well as making me fall off narrow ledges.
F
Hail Jigglypuff lol same
Nintendo fixes it for free, nothin' to worry 'bout.
Are the joycon really this fragile? Makes me paranoid.
yes, moreso than other nintendo products, but about the same as other consoles.
Yes! My son has broken 2 and he's only 10. It's too thin and structurally flawed. Due to the small form factor, I'm not sure they could've gone with a bigger diameter stick, though. A more durable material would have been better.
Jordan yeah but just like the whole switch Nintendo decided to cut corners to maximise profits.
Wth is your son doing to them lol, my kids all share this one switch that they play almost everyday. Tell him to be more careful with his things.
Jordan Yeah, well, your sons sucks at taking care of things. Maybe if he learned how money works, that wouldn't be an issue.
I was a little weary about fixing this myself, but you made it simple. You just saved me a ton of money, thanks so much!
Just wanna say thank you very much!
My joycons were drifting, bought a fix kit from Amazon and watched your video. No more drift. You didn’t have a video for the right joycon which is a bit different to take apart but i just went on instinct from this video and got it fixed as well.
THANK YOU
Awesome! Used this for the right Joy Con and worked great! There are 2 less screws for the battery compartment holder, and the ribbon opposite the joystick (connected to the battery compartment) is a shorter length, so you definitely need tweezers. It also helps to have a PC kit, something cheap from Amazon should suffice. Otherwise, just as advertised!
This is one of the better videos on UA-cam that shows how to replace the joystick on the switch. I used this video to help replace mine and it helped a lot! Was definitely cheaper that buying a whole new controller!!
Thank you so much for making this video, I did this with both the left AND the right analog sticks and now they work like new! Just had to calibrate them in settings after it was finished.
Thanks for the video! It was very helpful. I don't typically take apart electronics and I was pretty annoyed when my left joy con joystick started to malfunction. I bought the parts on eBay and your video made it seem very simple.
I completely agree about the ribbon cable. They are pretty delicate but not too hard to work with. I thought the joystick ribbon cable from the new joystick would go into the holder farther than it did. I tried for a while to push it in. eventually I gave up but it seems to be working just fine.
Thank you so much for making this video 🙏🏼 I just replaced the joy-con successfully thanks to you and now my switch feels brand new! I could cry with joy rn
Thank you so much for this! Really useful after mine snapped off the same way. Simple, straightforward walkthrough that alleviates any anxieties about getting inside to replace it.
thank you so much for the tutorial! very simple and straightforward, and i finally fixed my controller from drifting. appreciate the help man :)
Thank you this helped me out so much! This is the best instructional I’ve come across.
Thanks very much for this video! Thanks to you and a cheap kit on amazon, I was able to swap the joystick in about 10-15 minutes. With practice I could see repair going very quickly. Thanks again!
Great video. Followed it to the letter and the joycon works perfectly just in time for those Christmas gatherings haha
Hi, thanks for the really easy to follow video (except for putting it back together!!) I know technically its just in reverse however speeding it up was a bit unclear how far the flat cable for my right joy con analogue stick goes in! I was able to fix this, but broke the ZR bumper in the process... and that cable is much more fiddly to put back it! The layout is also different for the opposite joy con
Great video. Thank you for posting. Just repaired my left joy-con following your instructions and it’s working perfectly.
Thanks, this really helped me out. Just replaced my left drifting stick with a new replacement one I bought, recalibrated it, now no more drifting!
Thank you for the guide, it was very difficult and frustrating to put back all in place again, the very little connections makes me headache, but at the end, viewing the way you put in place all connections was very helpful and lucky
Thanks mate. Followed the instructions (was the other side, so slightly different layout, but no issues at all). Thanks for the good information!
My joy-con had a slightly different layout but I was able to change the stick anyway following your guide.
Thank you very much.
Got a kit off amazon complete with the right screwdrivers, pliers, and a little lifter object. Used this video as instruction, now I'm back playing switch! thanks hoss
Thank you so much fir your video. I attempted a joystick replacement today since I was experiencing drift and it went very well. It was probably the scariest thing I’ve ever done but I’m glad I did it. Now I am drift free
Went through it step by step with you . Very helpful and I can play my switch again. Thank you 😊
Thanks to this video and a joycon repair kit I found on Amazon, I was able to replace the joystick :) I had to remove the battery tray too though, but that wasn't too hard to do. Gotta be careful of accidentally removing the ribbon cable that was wrapped around it though, but the tweezers make it easy to fix. Thanks for your help!
Thank you for this video. I replaced my drifting stick with a new one using your video as reference.
I messed up a little while doing it though...
I accidentally moved some of the rubber that supports the face buttons (D-Pad) while the Joy-Con was open without realizing it.
So, when I closed the joy-con after replacing the stick, one of the face buttons was stuck and wouldn't be pressed anymore lol
I had to open it all over again to put those rubbers back in place.
In the end everything worked fine and I have a brand new Joy-Con now :D
Awesome video! Following along I was able to replace my analog stick in just about 10 minutes. Thanks!
Your video was big help, I replaced two joy cons that are driftless again (for now). Thanks!
Thank you so much! My brother broke left controller by dropping it and we didn’t want to tell anyone so I looked up this video and this really helped me out. Thanks
thank you for this tutorial, helped me out greatly and switching out the analog stick was a success! :)
This tutorial is great and very understandable, also bonus for only being 4 minutes 24 seconds. I fixed my drifting joycon (thanks to Animal Crossing 🥰) in 15 minutes or less!
Thanks for tutorial I have successfully replaced broken joy con and whilst it was a bit fiddly your instructions were great!!
Thanks for the tutorial! Only took me about 20 minutes to do.
Thanks for this video, it really helped me replace my analog sticks. To note though, this video only shows the left joycon. The right is a bit different. There are only 3 screws holding the battery tray in place and you have to be very careful of the cable connecting the ZR button to the controller board. As well, all of the cables are held/secured in place with a lever of sorts that locks the connector to the cable. The lever should be 'open' when disconnecting/connecting the cables and 'closed' before putting everything back together.
Watched to know which way to move the joystick ribbon cable holder, thank you for your crucial help with my repair.
I just wanted to say thank you! This video helped me a lot
I don't know about when this video came out but now ifixit does have a guide on this its not a video so slightly confusing but still much more thorough
Thanks for sharing this, I noticed that you only need to take 3 screws or of the inner battery cover, not 5 as mentioned in your video. 2 of those are connected to the board only.
Thank you for this! I actually fixed it following your instructions!
I ordered my thought Amazon and I payed $6 and it came with the two screwdrivers that you need to do this and it works great.
Thanks! Your video helped a lot! Had the exact same issue. Still don't know why my snapped off
Awesome vid! It really helped me fix my joycon
thank you for the video, I've used it as a reference for two joycons that I fixed!
Great video, I was able to fix my Joy-Con following your instructions. Thanks a lot.
Glad I could help
thank you thank you! very quick and helpful tutorial!
I like how this video wasn't milked and 20+ minutes long. Replaced my brothers drifting joy con's today without fault.
To make things clearer, only three screws need to be removed, the upper right and bottom left are recessed and only go into the motherboard below so leave those in. Also the ribbon cable black latch that was removed initially needs to be pulled up and towards you (unlike the joy con ribbon cable latch which needs to be pulled up and away from you).
Make a video yourself.
Just replace mine and thanks to you this was a success 🙌🏽 thanks
I loved when you cut exactly before unplug some parts to make me use my imagination and wonder if has or not a flipping lock. 👍🏻
with the correct tools it's really easy.....connecting the tiny cables with my big fingers was a hell test of endurance lol!
Thanks for the video!
Thank you so much for this video! My youngest son broke one of ours and we do not have the money for a brand new controller. Paid $8 for a set with the required screw drivers on eBay and just fixed it watching your video! It seems to be working exactly like its suppose to. My only complaint is how you sped up the video during one of the most important parts of getting the ribbons back in but I was able to figure it out. Thank you for saving me at least $40! 😁
Hey dude. Thanks for this video. I took the plunge and ordered a replacement stick. Used your video to fix my UK Joycon. Two things that are different on the Euro version
1. The screws are mini cross head not triangle like in the US. Most web based suppliers will give you the tools you need for the job
2. At time index 1:30 you remove the battery pack. On the Euro version you can remove the whole assembly without removing the battery pack but you have to watch the ribbon cable for the buttons above. If it pops out simply put it back in once you have fitted the new stick. There are three screws for the battery assembly. Once this is done you can move the battery part to the side and insert the new stick as noted in the video.
One more thing .. it helps to re-calibrate the controller in settings once you have installed.
This video was a great help and gave me confidence to fix this and save some major cash.
Thanks
Best how to video ever thanks, got two (2) joycons for 30 bucks with anolog problems this saved me on cash.
Hi, I just wanted to say thank you for the video because thanks to you I was able to exchange the analogue stick in my joycon, by myself which saved me money time and a lot of frustration.
Glad I could help
Thank you! Fixed my left and right joy-cons :)
Thank you 🙏 I just fixed my left joy con using this video as a reference.
I did it! I replaced my Joy-cons control stick and now it works fine! :)
I did this and it fixed the drifting issue..but with the shiny aluminum back to the stick looks like his has a dent in it as if someone sat on the joycon or extreme pressure was applied to it. which is why it broke on him. That shouldn't have a dent in it. So no it's not really that fragile. at 1:52 you can see him point directly at that dent i'm talking about.
You're right it's not fragile, but it's safe to call it unreliable!
I was able to follow the instructions very easily and fix my joy on🤗 thank you
This can be done without removing any ribbon cables (with exception to the control stick obviously), I just unscrewed the one on the tiny board behind the minus button and gently lifted it up, put it back in place afterwards.. Literally works perfectly now.
This helped me so much thank you
Hi there, I know that this video is a year old and that you probably won’t read this comment, but I’d like to thank you, as this video has helped me fix both my joycons and I cannot thank you enough!
Video was a big help. Thank you
Excellent video! TO the people complaining about taking out the ribbon cable connecting the bumper to the circuit board. It's not hard guys, legit the same thing as the analog stick ribbon cable he shows.
Thanks! This video helped me fix my joycon :)
Thank you so much, this fixed my controller ^^
I didn't have drift lag, but my controller wouldn't fully register when I was holding forward so running was not an option unless the game had a sprint button xD
Thanks! This looks really simple.
Just replaced the analog today on my daughter's left joycon. It wasn't clicking in. Overall a pretty easy job, although the little ribbon cables worried me at first. For first ribbon cable the video shows a little black tab that needs to be popped up for it to be removed. The lower ribbon cable has a similar tab, but its light grey. With the tabs popped up, the cables should come out with very little force.
Great detailed video! Appreciate it.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks so much for this video! Managed to fix it thanks to you and saved £50 😀
Thanks was able to repair my joycon with this video, and one other. You skipped over some parts that I wanted to make sure I wouldn't mess up. So I had to supplement with another video.
Great video. Mine fell and the joystick camw out shaft intact, but the top of the housing is chipped.
Thanks for the walkthrough
Thank you! Fixed mine within 15 mins!
I’m getting replacements for two of my joy con sets that currently have drifting joysticks, one of which doesn’t even make a clicking sound when pressed.
Joycon controllers are dumb expensive. This video saved me so much money. Thank you!
Alot easier than the Xbox remote. Had to desolder about 8 anchor pins. Thanks for the video
Great tip
Excellent. Purchased some spare sticks now
Thanks so much this is so helpful
Thanks for the vid mate really helped :D
Thanks a lot for simply mehod to fixing left controller . GOOD ONE ♥️
OMG YES I NEEDED THIS SO BADLY
Very helpful, many thanks!
Very useful, thanks.
Honestly I’ve ever try opening any of my game controllers until this happened to me
Both the joysticks started drifting, I had no choice but to buy a new set or try fixing
I decided to fix it n manage to replace the joystick n works fine but took me quite a while
good job, ill be fixing mine instead of buying if it started drifting too
Worked out perfect! Thanks
Thank you so much it works perfectly!!!
Thanks this tutorial helped
Can you do a video on how the actual analog sticks work as in the mechanism? I'm really curious since they make metalic sounds and don't "clack" when they hit the edge.
Jeremy Mansbach watch “my mate VINCE” and search for 3 annoying faults on the Nintendo switch they can be easily fixed if you hadn’t fix them by now
I eat ass on tuesdays thanks, but I mean the analog stick mechanism. Nothing's broken on mine but I'm just curious how it's designed.
I eat ass on tuesdays epic pfp btw
Oh it's just a spring on the inside, really cheap sticks. That's why they have so many drifting problems, because the collect dust and stop working properly. You can clean them but they should put better sticks in them, since those are some pretty expensive controllers.
just ended up getting a preowned one at gamestop for $30. I have 0 experience repairing anything, and even with clear instructions, you still would have to be super careful and know what you're doing.
Lol same thing happened to me, I just superglued it and if the stick works and has no other issues then I’ll be fine lol. If it doesn’t work then I’ll order a new one, fingers crossed it still works! I’ll give an update when I re-assemble it.
Thank you zollotech! You've saved my bacon again.
