    Shadowdark has so much content! I have the Shadowdark books and also OSE, haven't decided completely on which to use as my main system, both are great!

    • @RedMageGM
      @RedMageGM  7 місяців тому +5

      It really does - more and more stuff coming out each week. It's hard to stay on top of it!
      Yeah, both OSE and Shadowdark are top-tier! I'd run some one-shots in each your group and see which clicks better. That's what I did, and we discovered that Shadowdark was preferred.

      I'd go with Shadowdark myself (It is one of the systems I use) for more classic systems that OSE is based off you can get the books it is totally based off dirt cheap such as rules cyclopaedia it has all the BEMCI rules besides the Immortal rules (years worth of leveling content tbh. I run Shadowdark and AD&D as my main systems Shadowdark is a great mix of old and new and can easily run old and new content, AD&D can run almost everything with little changes as well I enjoy it because it is a bit more complex but to keep it simple I'd run BEMCI rules still just as good imo 🤟🏻

It looks really nice, higher level stuff in a totally different placei dont think its officially connected but id run it as a different part of the world. Also Philip Reed is the man! @@RedMageGM no worries I think it just came out the last day or so. I got it last night ans it looks really good. Nice big hexcrawl, and a good sized hex/point crawl. Gives good advice on where to run it in any campaign and it's levels 4-6 but level 3s can run it but would be rough (that just sounds like fun to me) also much easier for me to run in my current world than Wolfgaurd since they would have to travel so far north 😭

    Ah yes the Jenga mechanic. Dread does this (a diceless pen&paper). I once had a session in a zombie apokalypse and if the tower falls you are dead.
    For torches I like it not so much but another way of doing the underclock or maybe in a underground oneshot the tunnels may collapse like the Jenga tower.
    The other supplements are looking so nice, RedMage always delivers the hot P&P stuff.

    Re: Saying the name of the World's Most Futurely Microtransactioned Tabletop RPG, you couldn't say that under the OGL because the OGL explicitly included agreeing not to use the trademark or trade dress of the company.
    By contrast, as long as you're clear that your thing isn't her thing on the outside as part of the 3rd party license, Kelsey's pretty chill if you more or less duplicate her trade dress on the inside, which is very cool. You can make your product feel like it belongs with the core book, which is very cool! Shadowdark is intended to be expanded and tweaked for your own table.

    Is Anger Root from the original keep on the borderlands? because there is a fan favorite Pathfinder 2E NPC Anchor Root from the Strength of Thousands adventure path. I'm thinking either the play on the original or vice versa. Either way, that's awesome.

    The jenga tower mechanic is just to gimmicky for me. I also dont always play around a steady table.
    I think the Shadowdark flavoring article is a good read for any dungeon crawler

    • @RedMageGM

  • @chrisg1598
    @chrisg1598 7 місяців тому +3

    That "Not Colonizers" bit makes the setting sound dreadfully boring. Moral quandaries are the spice of any good game. When the party kills off the orc raiding party and then discovers their camp with the women and children, that's when things get interesting. Game designers should stick to designing games and not lecture GMs about how to run their tables.

    • @RedMageGM
      @RedMageGM  7 місяців тому +3

      I always somehow "messed up" every moral quandary my characters were faced with when I played as a kid- I think my DM delighted in seeing my actions cause havoc. Spare the bandits? They turn out to be working for the Big Bad and cause untold chaos. Kill them? They turn out to be misunderstood Robin Hood types and now the peasants hate us. :D
