Randy, you nailed it as to how easy it is to program this radio. Got mine about an hour ago. Removed the radio and "stuff" from the box (NOT an unboxing) installed it as a base station. The GMRS around here just want to talk to their own local group for the most part, or have access to a repeater network for emergencies. HAMs on the other hand are really into tinkering, contesting, (things like low power operations and achieving worldwide contacts, as well as POTA). In all honesty - I am not a HAM at heart. My mindset is more like yours in that I want to talk to my group (my actual family) and really don't care for the most part what everyone else has to say. BUT, I won't be buying a station that can reach around the world - so it's nice to have some acquaintances that can help me pass messages should the cell towers fail. (Like when my daughter spends a month in Canada.) Now, in the spirit of my new HAM hobby, there is a reason you might consider testing as I did: SHTF. Last night I listened to a conversation from the Ukraine during a counterattack. In a world where we cannot trust our news media to present us with the facts, listening to first hand accounts can be enlightening. It's true, you don't need the ticket to listen - but you are eventually going to want to talk. Going just off watching a few videos I got both Technician and General, and have no doubt I could have gotten Extra if the exam proctors (online from my own dining table) had the time. BUT - consider this: Canada HAMS have full US privileges with one test if you pass 'with honors'. Their exam is so freaking easy, too - I think it was last revised in the 1980's. A local Canadian club is willing to test me, since they can send the license to a Canadian address (my daughter's) - and were willing to test her, as well at the same time for no extra charge. Think about it. You could even work a few 'I'm a Canadian HAM, EH!' into your podcasts! That RCMP red jacket would look great in the NotaRubicon, too.
I’m very new to this GMRS and Ham Radios. But your videos are helping me out very much please keep them coming. I do have a question, when putting two of these radios together to make your own repeater would I need a license to use the repeater?
@@TheNotaRubicon that range is magnificent. I've been chasing radio gear like you. I've currently got 3 systems in my rig. 😐. I've become a mobile radio hub
I bought the KG-1000G in August of 2021. It worked great at first, but the "A" side receiver stopped working (still transmits). "A" receiver still works on FM and weather, but not VFO or channels. Yes, I tried factory reset with no change. My UV-5G Plus has better reception. Very disappointed!
Im a ham general license holder, several hams in my area in Texas are going to GMRS, and have 3 repeaters in operation. Yep, a lot of hams enjoy trolling other radio groups, the same ones usually troll ham sites too, guess they get bored and unhappy so they want to make others feel the way they do. IGNORE them, sad little trolls! Thanks for the videos!
I'm excited to buy this radio. Currently I have a 2021 2door stick. The wife and I are becoming foster parents and plan to upgrade to a Gladiator (makes sense to us for a bunch of reasons). I don't want to make any changes to my JL since it'll be gone soon. I'm dying to get a mobile unit! Also, I took my Radioditodttosdirissdy GM30s on a Cub Scout hike, and one of the "little angels" dropped my radio into a puddle. It was half submerged. It dried out and works totally fine. I figured it would catch fire and explode.
Can the display be dimmed? I've got mine above the center stack on my JL and love it there but the darned thing is so bright! I know the backlight can be turned off, but I can't find where it might be able to be dimmed.
I have my technician license, but I plan on getting a gmrs license as well. I have a daughter in college that's about 100 miles away and to my understanding Texas has a sizeable gmrs repeater network. Since it's unlikely that my daughter will get a ham radio license, this will be a good way to communicate with her in an emergency situation. I hope.
Faceplate mounting tip: Velcro! The faceplate is very lightweight and good quality Velcro can be used rather than drilling. It holds up well to bouncing and jostling of a Jeep that ventures out of the mall parking lot, occasionally. That remote faceplate is one of the best featurs of this radio!
You are correct about the Midland radios; you can’t save multiple repeaters on additional channels, you have to change/add the correct PL tones to (on repeater channels 15-22) to access different repeaters. The KG-1000 seems like a cool radio. I’ve been using used Kenwood TK-880H (40 watt mobiles) that are Part 90 and 95 type certified and. An typically be purchased for right around $100. What sets them apart from this Wouxun is the programming; they feature many signaling methods (including Fleetsync-PTT ID, Caller ID, Selective Calling, stun/kill/revive, etc.) which aren’t necessary for everyday GMRS use, as you’d have to have several members in your group with Fleetsync capable radios for it to be of any use. They do have handy features like programmable buttons, and one that is really nice is Operator Selectable Tone, whereby you slave a programmed list of PL tones (in the programming) and program a key/button to access that feature, and you can rotate the rotary channel knob to page thru the available tones and pick which one you want. Let’s say your group had the same Kenwood radios and were operating simplex, and they are all programmed with that feature and the list of tones, you could direct operators to select tone bank 2 and that would eliminate receiving unwanted traffic. I suppose you could switch to a different channel, but some events and locations might be saturated on many channels. They’re easy/cheap to program as well, although the Wouxun edges it out as it is field programmable. I like the adaptable faceplate also. The repeater function doesn’t really wow me, as you can do the same thing with two used mobiles, a repeater controller and a duplexer for less than than the cost of two of these. That having been said, I’m betting the KG-1000 will be a good seller, thanks for the reviews.
Ok build a gmrs repeater for less. Use at least same quality parts, not 25 year old parts that no one cane get anymore. Not using an Argent data type system. One that a 5th grader can purchase, setup and use. I will like you video. Most duplexers require the addisional purchase and understanding of an swr meter and or antenna/duplex tuner. After all the cables and such its extremely hard pressed to do so. $640 is your budget. Most Hammers are not forthcoming about all the additional shite and you have to buy.
Hello 👋 ham guy here. Ill never understand why there are so many hams that don't gett the appeal of GMRS. Im going to Get my G mrs licence here soon. When licence covers the whole family and we all use the radios! Also nice video, this radio seems perfect 👌!
I'm putting up a GMRS repeater and plan on using the Wounxun KG-1000's, once they are back in stock that is. Our area (San Antonio) lacks repeaters but seems to have a number of GMRS radio's broadcasting. We are about 60 miles west of SAT in the hill country and our cell service is limited, no matter what carrier, so using GMRS certainly helps staying in contact.
Near Uvalde or Kerrville? That whole area of the southern hill country is beautiful and rough. I'm curious what kinds of ranges you are getting in those hills and valleys. Im up in central Texas, between Austin and Waco.
Great video, did a remote mount of the faceplate on a piece of angle iron, painted it and set the body under my seat. Don’t like to leave my radio in my truck, so a couple of clicks and the face plate & microphone are gone.
Need your HELP. - Recommended Antenna for the KG1000g If possible…. both Mobile & Base types. Absolutely Love your channel - New Fan. WRQV559. Naples,FL
I have ordered the KG-1000G and I am awaiting shipment, the radio is currently back ordered... I do have a question regarding powering the radio though... I would like to connect the radio to an ignition switched power supply. Will the radio recognize power and turn on when the truck is started or will I need to manually turn it on every time I start the truck? Thanks!
I just purchased the same radio., the antenna I have installed is midland mxta26 and the antenna cable is the mxta24 and installed in a jeep jk. The antenna is mounted on the spare tire carrier and I’m getting a SWR 2.3 and advise on how to lower it? I did today add a ground wire from antenna to the chassis. I’d appreciate your advice on which way to go thanks
How were you able to change the screen name to something personalized? I checked the manual and from what I see in the software I can't find where to change it. I contacted buy two way radios, and they were not sure either. Thanks for any info. I enjoy the reviews
Hi Randy. Great video. I am curious though...in a later video, I see you have a BTech mobile mounted in your Jeep. Did you replace your Btech with the Wouxun? Looks like a great radio and I am torn between getting the BTech and the Wouxun. I like the size of the BTech and the superhet receiver on the Wouxun. So which one is in your Jeep these days?
I'm finding your information very useful. I do have a HAM radio, a GMrS License, and a good CB. Each radio has it's pluses and minuses and with me being in SAR and not always knowing who I'm going to be working with, need to cover my bases. The information you are providing on GMRS is very valuable to me because of that.
I got my kg1000g set up in my jeep. Not sure how to get the audio to come through the handset? I see the volume knob but that doesn’t seem to do anything. What am I missing?
Randy, Have you noticed that on the kg1000 the (A) side is louder and receives stronger signal than the (B) side? Try it out, and tell me what you find.
Now that you have the mxt500 I have to ask which do you prefer personally I’m planning on just a 15 watt unit to start with though I do want to get a 50 watt down the road
All of the Plus items you point out is why I did not buy the Btech or the Midland I did go with a Legal Kenwood because of the ability to program in the same repeater frequency with different PL tones which is a real issue up here as there are multiple repeaters in the "same area" and only the PL tones are different! Looks like a good radio but the link shows out of stock no idea when any will be available and no price shown!
Hey i bought this radio because of this video. BytwowayRadios were great to deal with. Even called me back. The radio was on backorder but they sent one out in 2 days anyways. This and the kG 805 G are king of GMRS along with You! And Buytwowayradios.com. love your HAM roasting. I call you FRANK BLUNT. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I got to thinking and have a question... I use a wouxun kg-uv980p which looks just like the 1000g. I have "unlocked" the frequencies on the 980 so I can use it for ham AND GMRS. I'm curious if the 1000g can be unlocked the same to be used on ham bands too??? Thoughts/experiences...
If you don't mind, I bought a KG-1000G and Browning BR-450 antenna per your review. But what coaxial cable do I need that has the correct screw ends for antenna side and radio side. Thank you.
you'll need an antenna mount of some sort, then a cable that is compatible with that mount. Some are sold as a set, some are sold separately. The BR-450 is listed as a "ground plane NMO antenna" so you will need to decide what metal surface you plan to mount it on. Best location is a metal rooftop, and in that situation, you drill a 3/4" hole in the roof (yep, you heard that right) and screw in a 3/4" NMO mount from the underside that has o-rings that make a seal. The alternative to that approach is an NMO magnetic mount. (you will find lots of options from Browning, Tram, etc with a bit of Googling). Or you can go with a "lip mount" like the BR-311 trunk lip mount. Have a look at www.radioresearch.us/BROWNING-BR-450-Mobile-NMO-Antenna-UHF-406-512-MHz-p/br450.htm for some ideas.
I have both a GMRS license and Ham license. The ham is much more versatile, but I primarily just want to make sure I can talk to my wife. The GMRS license lets her talk to me when we don't have cell service, so that one gets more use. It comes down to who you talk to, if most of your friends and family are on GMRS, it just makes more sense. Both can be fun if you get into the radio hobby. The KG-1000 will probably be my next GMRS radio.
I have a Midland, B-Tech and Wouxun. IMHO if you want to use GMRS beyond local use travelling around town get at least the B-Tech. I didn't think I would like the Wouxun at first but love the power and simplicity. I have had a Ham radio for years but find GMRS in my area much more interesting and active. Can't wait to see some simplex distance tests with your friend!
Hi randy, could you give me some advice about the wouxun.im in the UK and bought an wouxun kg 1000 and I can't input nine digits, I can only input 8. We are on 446 frequency. Is it possible to g3t nine?. Thank you.
It all comes down to what you want a radio to do. For small groups who stick fairly close together, GMRS is a excellent choice. And that’s coming from a General Class licensed ham. I use single sideband CB, MURS, GMRS and the ham bands. And each have their own pros & cons. For off-roading in the woods, far away from repeaters, CB is my first choice. But only on sideband to weed out the radio Rambo types. But if repeaters are involved, even if it’s a vehicle mounted repeater, GMRS is a great option. I think the reason hams push being a ham is because ham radio has so much more to offer. But is only has more to offer if you use it for many different purposes. If all you want radio for is to go rock climbing then you don’t need a radio that will talk to Spain! You just need a radio that will talk around the bend or from one mountain top to the next, etc. And I get that, I really do. I have friends that I only talk to on CB, and they have no reason to use anything else. Because for them, a CB does everything they want a radio to do. They don’t even need GMRS, let alone a $2,000 ham radio setup that they would not use any differently than their $129 Uniden 980SSB. I say decide what you want a radio to do and go with the service that best suits YOUR needs. Be it FRS, MURS, CB, GMRS or one of the 3 ham licenses.
I do like the look of this unit, BUT I hate the idea I give up 8 of my channels (8-15) for the lower power. Seems they would put a resistor in those channels for low power use. What are your thoughts?
The only reason I got a ham license is because. 1. It's cheaper 2. The magnitude of available frequencies and options with said frequencies and 3. GMRS isn't really a thing in my area. I still like your videos regardless.
I want to see more GMRS radio stuff. HAM is such a PITA . To get set up to get your license. Then all the other crap and you still can’t use it to talk to your neighbor. . I would like to know about using the Midland micro mobile with the Wouxun GMRS handheld and what kind of range using the two together. You know from the midland mxt275 15 watt base station at the house to how far I can talk to the person using the Wouxun 805g 5 watt hand held . I think you do a good job on your videos . Plus you do all GMRS
This is an awesome and funny video thank you so much for posting it and your sense of humor. PS. I’ve had my ham license for over 30 years but I would not be so arrogant to tell you what you should do. It’s still a semi free country do what you want. 😳
I was reading through the comments to make sure that the question I wanted to ask has not already been asked and answered. On the back of the radio itself on the chassis is there a plug to plug in an external powered speaker?
Nice install. One of the things I like about this radio is the receiver coverage. I can monitor the air band (AM) and reduce the amount of equipment I have in my truck. BTW, love the dry humor. You crack me up almost every video. WRDN460
As a Ham, the more people in out hobby, the more people to talk to and the more stuff on the market for us, and more people vested in protecting our bandwidth. Simple enough. I also have a GMRS ticket.
Repeaters -- sooo if you have a repeater in your area on CH 17 with a PL (tone) of 100.0 and you drive a hundred miles and there is another repeater on CH17 with a PL of 100.0 you dont have to change anything on the radio -- only if the repeater CH 17 is on a different PL (tone) then you would have to change it to that PL tone in maybe a different channel space on the radio
I only have had my hands on one for a couple of days. Out of the box it has the 22 channels and broadcast FM but since the radio cannot reduce the output power enough, it can only receive and not transmit on the shared FRS channels. From my limited experience with this unit, in order to program or scan receive only bands and frequencies, you must have the programming cable which is NOT included.
Got the radio delivered today. Great radio! Just wish I could lower the beep volume when changing channels or the volume. Is there a way to lower the LCD brightness as well? thanks
The beep volume is controlled by the volume knob, lower the volume and the beep will not be as loud. You can lower the LCD brightness by 50% by closing one eye.
@@TheNotaRubicon Thanks for the quick reply. Some time in the near future, I'll start using your repeater as well. It'll come in handy when I go hiking around my area.
I stopped listening to those UA-cam statisticians ages ago. But in all seriousness, I love my 1000G! Dual Scan groups is my favorite feature, with the two speakers and volume knobs.
Would be cool to see this radio tested on the open highway and a city setting. Though I know it’s use is for off-road … also everywhere I go to order this it’s Back Ordered. Any thoughts on where to purchase it?
@@TheNotaRubicon is there a diff between the Wouxun KG-1000M Base/Mobile Two Way Radio and the “MURS” version or is it the same radio? Sorry if it’s a stupid question. I’m just getting into this and can’t get a clear answer.
One thing I learned is....I really miss my old CJ-7 :( Very cool... the remote faceplate really makes it convenient to mount the radio where you can see it. (and hear it). I have a Yaesu 7900 that has the same setup for VHF/UHF Ham bands. Whoever invented the remote faceplate setup was a genius. :) Many happy miles. :D
@NotaRubicon Productions maybe a stupid question but is there a way to turn off the backlight or adjust the brightness? I have looked through every setting and, could be dumb, but I can't find it.
Could you use your persuasion with Wouxun to get a desktop mic created for the KG1000G? Many of us use this radio as a base, a desktop mic would be nice.
Well I have a GRMS license and ham license because I like radios. Thank you for telling me about this radio because of the removable face plate I will look into getting one.
@@TheNotaRubicon thank you sir. I just got into gmrs and got my license a few days ago. For my handheld I got the radioddity gm 30 and have been looking at a mobile for my truck. And I believe that I am going to get this one.
I know you do rocks, but you might want to consider mounting the "radio" higher in case of a high water crossing that gets water under the seats. I put my ICOM 706 MKII Mod G on the back of the center console and the faceplate on the dash. Now I have about 7 or 8 inches water in the Jeep clearance. In an emergency situation you might need the radio to be working.
Thanks for a hands on installation video👍 Now for MY review of ham radio operators. When you listen to them, they’re so infatuated with their FCC assigned call sign, that seems to be 98% of their conversations. I’ve had a First Class Radiotelephone license (now called General Radiotelephone License) for maybe 50 years now. I’ve known a few hams during all those years, and yes, they always want you to get that coveted ham license so you can waste you life with Romeo tango Charlie ….
Nice. It’s the end of October 2021 right now, and I heard that Midland will be coming out with their new 50-watt radio any time now. So I’m up in the air between this one (which I really like, but I’m reluctant to go Chinese)…or waiting for the Midland. Another question. What would be an optimal antenna wire to use for a truck mounting? Stick with the factory provided ones, or pay extra and get an outstanding one? And super lastly, why doesn’t anyone cut down their antenna cables to length? Especially when it is obvious that you lose some power, or possibly heat a coiled-up cable. Thanks, and cool videos. (But talk a bit faster, please). Ha ha.
Amateur Radio may have what GMRS CB or MURS doesn't, but choice is aways yours and yours alone. Just because I'm licensed Amateur Radio and also hold a GMRS license, doesn't give me the right to push my views onto anyone. CB and MURS are also a good options to have in an emergeny situations or normal everyday conditions. Each radio service has it's own advatages and disadvatages, but it's your choice and keep up the good job.
Dangit man! Now I have to have one and it can't be had!!! Hopefully in stock soon..... Love the humor in your videos. Keep it up! I was a HAM before I got my GMRS. Love both. Keep up the great work! - WRAB706/KT4RJN
Would probably be easier to call the place you got it and tell them to send you one that works.. But yah, you can make one, just look at the pin outs - i dont remember if its straight-through or has a twist.
I appreciate all the info on these videos as it saves me a lot of work in evaluating what to do to set up my gmrs. I see he is sitting in his Jeep as he us using gmrs to help him with his off road activity. I am interested in hiking with my family and using this to supplement my family activities.
What antenna do you recommend for this radio, I’d like to replace my CB antenna on the back of my Jeep with a tailgate mount unit. Thank you for all you are sharing with us.
Going GMRS for my main radios. my only question is say there’s an emergency while riding, and there is no cell service… what’s the likely hood of reaching emergency service with gmrs? should i get a good HAM radio for this instance? Thanks! for the videos!
The chance of directly reaching emergency service on GMRS is the same as on ham = 0% - you cannot reach emergency services directly on either. For emergency help you would need to reach another person, who can then relay help to emergency services - and to do that on either, you would need a repeater with someone at the other end listening.. so for anywhere you go, you would need to know if/where all the repeaters are and your radio must be configured to connect to that repeater (ham or GMRS) - and of course you must be in range of that repeater.. Because there are far more ham repeaters than GMRS repeaters, ham would probably be a better choice - but this does not mean you can reach a ham repeater everywhere you go.
Why are you so fixated on what hams say? Why do you even care what they say? Did you fail the ham test? 🤔🤷♂️
I'm not fixated on what hams say - however, like many normal people, I do get irritated by arrogant/stupid comments left by arrogant/stupid hams desperatly trying to make themselves look smart.. The FCC says that any time you transmit on a GMRS radio, with or without a repeater, you must have a GMRS license.
Awesome Ty
This is when he started having fun
IDK if you get any kickback from Wouxon or Twoway but you should.. Sold me ;-) and your funny and enjoyable to watch. Thank you!
I just ordered one based on your reviews.
You can let them know, I'm buying this radio because of you
Thanks! But you can let them know automatically by using my link to the radio in the information section!
Dude ... you are HILARIOUS! Keep it up. Great content.
So I just got my KG1000G! The radio is awesome! It took about a month to get it, but was worth the wait.
Was wondering what you do in IRL. "It's like ethernet, but it's wired different ". No normy would say that. This narrows it down. Love the vids man.
Talkie thingy... Damn your humor is dry as hell and I love it!
Yep. I've got both. Both are great. No need to evangelize anything.
Your garage reminds me of mine. I have a 2015 JK, the wife has a 2020 Gladiator and a 2012 JKU. JK and the truck stay in the garage.
Great video, did a remote mount of the faceplate on a piece of angle iron, painted it and set the body under my seat. Don’t like to leave my radio in my truck, so a couple of clicks and the face plate & microphone are gone.
Need your HELP. - Recommended Antenna for the KG1000g
If possible…. both Mobile & Base types.

Thanks!
If you leave it "on", it will turn back on every time you give it power.
2.3:1 is fine. stop trying to overthink it and just enjoy the radio.
@@TheNotaRubicon thank you sir for your reply. I’m new to GMRS and got lots to learn 😆
I wish this radio had the option to plug the mic into the chassis so I could cleanly mount the face plate without seeing the mic cord
I started with the BTech, then upgraded to the KG-1000G, then upgraded to the Motorola XTL5000 which is what is in the jeep currently.
The most epic youtube close ever 10:30
Now that you have the mxt500 I have to ask which do you prefer personally I’m planning on just a 15 watt unit to start with though I do want to get a 50 watt down the road
As a HAM, and a fellow GMRS license holder I enjoyed your video.
Just heard today that midland now has a fifty watt radio and sadly they didn't change a thing about the way they work
All of the Plus items you point out is why I did not buy the Btech or the Midland I did go with a Legal Kenwood because of the ability to program in the same repeater frequency with different PL tones which is a real issue up here as there are multiple repeaters in the "same area" and only the PL tones are different! Looks like a good radio but the link shows out of stock no idea when any will be available and no price shown!
The KG-1000G is about $320 - expected to have back in stock in about 5 days!
What about transmission heat can it get enough air under the seat???
Thank you.
Heck, I stay well lit most of the time.... Seriously, you make great videos. Love 'em
I am glad someone is bold enough to say the things you say!
The FCC will only allow transmitting on channels 8-14 on hand-held/walkie talkies..So my thoughts are the FCC is stupid.
@@TheNotaRubicon I agree with your reply! Gov. control has such a satisfying spurious feeling about it. LOL pay for the free airways!
My mic speaker isn't working is there a setting in the program that I'm missing?

@@TheNotaRubicon Excellent thank you sir you know how to spend my money faster than my wife
Repeaters -- sooo if you have a repeater in your area on CH 17 with a PL (tone) of 100.0 and you drive a hundred miles and there is another repeater on CH17 with a PL of 100.0 you dont have to change anything on the radio -- only if the repeater CH 17 is on a different PL (tone) then you would have to change it to that PL tone in maybe a different channel space on the radio
or any of the other repeater channels the same goes for those
This will be a great product for overland/off-roaders. Midland is popular, but people hate you can’t do split tones for repeaters.
@@TheNotaRubicon Closing one eye,Rofl.
Besides the 40 and 50 watt radios -- antennas and where you mount them makes a huge difference
Thanks for the info. Is the browning BR-450 your best choice antennae for the wouxun KG-1000G or do you have other recommendations?
Today I recommend the Midland MXTA26 ... it doesnt work any better but it's pre-tuned perfectly for GMRS, so no tuning/cutting is necessary.
@@TheNotaRubicon Thank you Sir !
Open road/line of site you can easily get 30 miles.. BuyTwoWayRadios is the only authorized dealer in the united states for this radio.
@@TheNotaRubicon thanks brother..
@@TheNotaRubicon is there a diff between the Wouxun KG-1000M Base/Mobile Two Way Radio and the “MURS” version or is it the same radio? Sorry if it’s a stupid question. I’m just getting into this and can’t get a clear answer.
The KG-1000G is a GMRS radio. the KG-1000M is a MURS radio - same on the outside but what squirts out the antenna is very different.
@@TheNotaRubicon lmfao! Roger that! Thanks for your time and feedback.
Does the Wouxun KG-1000G have a PA mode or does any gmrs do PA at all?
One thing I learned is....I really miss my old CJ-7 :( Very cool... the remote faceplate really makes it convenient to mount the radio where you can see it. (and hear it). I have a Yaesu 7900 that has the same setup for VHF/UHF Ham bands. Whoever invented the remote faceplate setup was a genius. :) Many happy miles. :D
Motorola and Kenwood make some of the best radios, but I don't know why I haven't seen GMRS mobiles from Motorola or Kenwood.
@NotaRubicon Productions maybe a stupid question but is there a way to turn off the backlight or adjust the brightness? I have looked through every setting and, could be dumb, but I can't find it.
It does not have a setting for the backlight
Could you use your persuasion with Wouxun to get a desktop mic created for the KG1000G? Many of us use this radio as a base, a desktop mic would be nice.
Your videos are great. I love that you tell trolls off and call it dickheads
Man you look like Mike VanDuzee 😳
Another great video, Randy. :-)
Well I have a GRMS license and ham license because I like radios. Thank you for telling me about this radio because of the removable face plate I will look into getting one.
What all channels come preprogrammed in it?
Pretty much the same as every other GMRS radio: 22 GMRS channels plus the 8-Repeater channels.
@@TheNotaRubicon thank you sir. I just got into gmrs and got my license a few days ago. For my handheld I got the radioddity gm 30 and have been looking at a mobile for my truck. And I believe that I am going to get this one.
Does it get hot?
If you are transmitting a lot it will warm up, but mine never gets 'hot' like many other radios do.
Is it possible to combine KG1000G with a Handheld of other brand? Btech, midland?
If they are GMRS hand held radios, then yes.. GMRS is GMRS, it does not matter what brand, just like CB radio.
@@TheNotaRubicon Ah, understand. Thx for info. I am not used into tis, thats why I asked.
Thanks for a hands on installation video👍
Now for MY review of ham radio operators.
I know this is going to sound like a unintelligent question but could this radio be set up somehow to operate as a simplex repeater?
Dangit man! Now I have to have one and it can't be had!!! Hopefully in stock soon..... Love the humor in your videos. Keep it up! I was a HAM before I got my GMRS. Love both. Keep up the great work! - WRAB706/KT4RJN
faceplat long cord doesent work, short one does, but I wanted to mount faceplate and put the radio behind seat, can I make one?
Would probably be easier to call the place you got it and tell them to send you one that works.. But yah, you can make one, just look at the pin outs - i dont remember if its straight-through or has a twist.

Another great video! Thanks for posting good educational content thats entertaining.
Was just wondering , can the mic only be plugged in to the faceplate or does it have the option to plug mic into chassis ?
Faceplate only.
@@TheNotaRubicon Gotcha! thanks for the reply!
