Thanks Randy. Struggled for hours trying to figure out how to do my first repeater program after upgrading to the KGUV9GX. Awesome radio. Used your affiliate link so thanks for that as well. Anyways, all I had was the repeater’s frequency and the In and Out numbers to punch in. Your video broke it down better than the others I watched and made it pretty dang easy. I did a repeater check and someone responded so that was pretty exciting. So I’m having lots of fun. My wife says I’m a nerd and I have to remind her that “Randy” says I’m very cool and will impress the chicks. Especially with my Roger Beep on.

I have said it before: you are the most informative and funny person on UA-cam. Your channel/Frequency list is priceless. It makes the munbo-jumbo of GRMS Channels vs Repeater channels vs frequencies (send vs receive) easy to understand. I was able to set up a local repeaters in a few minutes just by watching you video, looking at your list and lining it up with the repeaters information.

Thank you for all your help, I got into GMRS a week or so ago because of you and i have been learning so much, managed to hit a repeater 30 miles a way on a beoufeng uv-9g handheld with an aftermarket antenna and talked to someone a 143 miles away in a car ride. I have been using mygmrs o find repeaters and found out that there is a group in Arkansas. I ended up connecting to someone that I believe was repeater hopping. I still have so much to learn and do, now i am making a repeater list.

Got two radios with all the gadgets and an upgraded antenna all for $73.90 If not for you and Josh doing shows together I quit looking for Ham and Looked for GMRS. Your review of the UV9G sold me. AND every single gripe you had was addressed and several more as well. This thing is fixed and improved and ready to go. So for $37.00 per unit filled with extra goodies, I got a PERFECT $40.00 RADIO. Programing cable, headset as well. Thank you Randy. Now the learning curve, I need a valium.

Thank you! I now have some confidence that I can program for a repeater. Unfortunately, in SE Minnesota, I'm in a GMRS wasteland. There are no active repeaters or GMRS clubs within 100 miles where I live. There are HAM repeaters though, but I suspect they would not be available to me, as I don't have a HAM license. I'll have to be content with relatively short range communications. My town is in a valley that would probably be counterproductive to building or buying my own repeater.

Great video! I am getting that noise back after transmitting but shouldn't I be hearing my message back if it "repeated" it out to the world? Who would actually hear my message then? Would it be other radios (besides the one I used to transmit with) that are also programmed exactly how the transmit radio was programmed? For example, if I had 2 radios programmed the exact same for a repeater and had both of them turned on. I transmit from one, would I hear the actual message on the second one? Or does the second one have to be programmed differently?

I have a Wouxun KG s88g and there is a repeater down here in San Diego whos owner granted me access and mentioned ... You will need to transmit a 271 "DPL tone" to access the repeater. At this time the system is not transmitting a tone." Seems to be basic....I see the options on the CTC area in the Wouxun software. There is a "D271N" and a "D271I" is this the same as the DPL and which one should I use N or I ?

    • @TheNotaRubicon

    Hi Randy,
I've got a question regarding repeater stuff.... I see where people will use a cable to interface from one uv-5R speaker outlet to a mic outlet on a second uv-5R and place that radio into a vox mode (using the regular GMRS repeater frequencies (highly illegal by the way)) but my question is, is the +500 offset enough to not get feed back into the radios??? even using a higher power radio??? or using a separate gain antenna on each radio??? Just seems like a nice quick simple way to set up a repeater. thanks for any info.

    • @TheNotaRubicon
      @TheNotaRubicon  3 роки тому +2

Dunno! Never set up two UV-5Rs like that.. But interference/desense can be an issue - so you have to keep the radios apart, you have to use a good duplexer, or two antennas, far from each other.

I'm very new and love watching your videos, great information. Can you explain "tone"? I'm confused, you talk about "tone" like a frequency but then you refer to "tone" like a sound too.

a "tone", sometimes called a code, is a setting that you use to activate a repeater. The technical name is 'CTCSS' tone or DCS tone. It is a tone with a specific frequency that you cant hear but other radios/repeaters can hear..

@@TheNotaRubicon I noticed in MyGRMS repeater list has input and output tone. Do I have that right?

Hey Randy, how do I know what tones ( tx and rx) go with what repeater? Just started this hobby, can’t seem to find that information anywhere? Thanks!

Go to my gmrs on the web and you should be able to find that information there.

Hello Randy. Programming WRBL535 gmrs repeter in the anytone 778uv software . I came across the information that if the squelch mode says “carrier “ in the software then you do not need to program the input tone , which is 151.4 Hz. Is this correct?

Good info bit it does not seem to be the same for my brand new 916 model from Better Safe. Is it me? Or could you do a video on setting a repeater on that radio??
I have a repeater at a ski resort high in the mtns near where I hike and want to connect to it. Maybe it's only a Ham repeater.

After bouncing back and forth from this video to myGMRS it seems pretty logical to assume that the myGMRS freq listed as "output" is the "transmit" that you are talking about. Am I making a correct assumption?

Randy, I'm feeling pretty lazy this morning; is it possible to daisy chain GMRS repeaters so you can get a ton of fars? You may have done a video on it, but like I said; lazy.

Hello sir. Been waiting for permission on some major gmrs repeaters. With unlisted tones. Do I need to sign up with a gmrs club?
