Randy, you are the Yoda, or the Obi Wan Kanobe of GMRS. After reading the "F'ing" manual several times, I couldn't seem to find in the menu listings how to adjust the squelch. So I did the next best thing, I viewed this video one more time. And when you were explaining the A, B, C buttons topside and how to program them, and you said your button "A" was your squelch setting, I had my answer. I bow down to you sir. THANK YOU. You have no idea how much useful information I've gotten from watching your videos. Not to mention that they're immensely entertaining.
Thank you for posting the link to the manual. I always read the manual, but when I had the radio professionally installed, they lost my manual (temporarily). They have since found it and I persuaded them to mail it back to me. In the meantime, I downloaded the manual from the link that you provided. I did not readily find this link with my own search, so thank you!

New to GMRS. I have a KG1000G Plus. Looking for a video addressing programming and an explanation of the features of this radio. The free programming software from Wouxum is not user-friendly. Uninstalls itself after claiming a virus is present. Buy two-way radio tech explains this is an issue with the software with no current solution. I purchased the RT version which is more stable on my Windows 10 platform. However, still lost in setting up areas including five hotkeys (A-C and P1). Frequency setup to monitor additional bands offered by the model including scan setup process has also been a challenge.
I have one that i installed in my truck. I have excellent range with it even in simplex. Simplex can reach about 50 miles without any problems!!! i the midland magnetic antenna on it so that I can remove it when Im somewhere that I think is not safe. The SWR on this antenna is just over one right out of the box. No need for trimming or further tunning.

I am trying to program my KG 1000G. I have the software loaded on my Windows computer and the programming cable plugged in. For some reason it is failing to communicate to the radio. The Port assigned is Com1. I am unable to change it to Com3. Is there anyone who can help me to make the connection? I have read the manual lol...
This is likely not a problem with the radio, this is a problem with Windows.. The Windows driver for the cable, to be exact. You can try deleting and re-installing the driver (which is way to complicated to try to explain here, consult your Google) and the guys at BuyTwoWayRadios (where you bought the KG1000G) may be able to help, EVEN though it's probably not a problem with the radio... THIS of course assumes that you are plugging the cable in correctly to the radio and the cable is not damaged.
Is this radio capable of transmitting on MURS frequencies? If it can do cross-band repeater, like it's uv980p cousin, then this radio can be really useful with a handheld! Imagine your 5W HT isn't quite powerful enough to hit the nearest gmrs repeater but this 50W mobile is. You can put this into cross-band repeater mode, set your A receiver to a MURS frequency and your B receiver on your stored GMRS repeater... Set your HT to the same murs frequency and you would would be talking for your HT, through your 50W mobile, crossing bands from murs to gmrs, and through your nearest gmrs repeater! If it won't do murs or cross-band repeater, then that's a bit lame, since the KG-UV980P does, and it's the same radio but firmwared for 2m and 70cm (and CHIRP now supports modifying the frequency limits of both these radios!) If this radio can do, murs, gmrs, and cross-band repeater, then RANDY, I challenge you to give this setup a try and make a video about it. If you don't understand what I am going on about, see this: ua-cam.com/video/Wle_wKKw9c4/v-deo.html
@@TheNotaRubicon ahh, bummer. Hoped since murs is free... The Nagoya 771G I got for my car is tuned for both gmrs and murs, because, just like 2m and 70cm, that's where a 5/8 wave for one frequency is a 1/4 wave for the other.
Tune to the appropriate repeater channel, go into the menu, select either TXCTCSS or TXDTC and select the tone for your local repeater.. The manual will give you the additional wisdom which you seek.
@@TheNotaRubicon ok! I have a support ticket open and none of their instructions worked, so escalated to get a remote in to my computer. But thanks for the confirmation.

You worked at Initech?? 13:29 How is Peter Gibbons getting along these days? Is he still 'pinching pennies'? Business consultants? 13:48 Are you referring to "the Bobs"? Did Jennifer Aniston ever put out enough "flair" to satisfy her boss?
I thought I recognized you. I would see you over at Chotchkie's occasionally. BTW - I got my degree in software engineering from the prestigious Stuttgart Frankfurt University. Good ole STFU.
If it won't do murs or cross-band repeater, then that's a bit lame, since the KG-UV980P does, and it's the same radio but firmwared for 2m and 70cm (and CHIRP now supports modifying the frequency limits of both these radios!)
If this radio can do, murs, gmrs, and cross-band repeater, then RANDY, I challenge you to give this setup a try and make a video about it.
If you don't understand what I am going on about, see this: ua-cam.com/video/Wle_wKKw9c4/v-deo.html
No, its a GMRS radio so it is not capable of transmitting on MURS frequencies.
@@TheNotaRubicon ahh, bummer. Hoped since murs is free... The Nagoya 771G I got for my car is tuned for both gmrs and murs, because, just like 2m and 70cm, that's where a 5/8 wave for one frequency is a 1/4 wave for the other.
How do we manually program a repeater tone on this device?
Tune to the appropriate repeater channel, go into the menu, select either TXCTCSS or TXDTC and select the tone for your local repeater.. The manual will give you the additional wisdom which you seek.
@@TheNotaRubicon Thank you. You are correct sir. Page 40 had the answer. I should of rtfm more thoroughly.
"I believe you have my stapler."
I was hoping he would tell us where the follow button and that bell thing was.
Anyone know how to unlock this radio to use it on ham bands and gmrs?
"Windows driver issue = God Help You". yep perfect...

Lol, you think some of these guys can read?
I do love the shameless plug for RTFM.
How ya test swr?
KMET & KLOS!
And KLAC.. A little bit of heaven.
I don't think anyone can get it to work on Microsoft Windows 11. It works fine on windows 10, but not windows 11.
Many people have got it to work on Windows 11.
@@TheNotaRubicon ok! I have a support ticket open and none of their instructions worked, so escalated to get a remote in to my computer.
But thanks for the confirmation.
Works perfectly on Windows 11. You have to download the driver.
I got a rounding error. 🤔🤷🏼♂️
Things must have hit the fan if Randy is using f'bomb and not bothering to edit it out.

My mom says i cant download anything on her computer anymore after that Last incident. 😁😁😁
She sounds like a wise woman.
Well I guess I have to just use my imagination
