I'm not a speedrunner, but the final boss fight against the Emperor was taking absolutely *forever* and couldn't outpace his healing until I suddenly remembered I had buff spells and started applying them. 😅
This is definitely one of the FF games i've been wanting to dive into for a long time, but have enjoyed watching runs til now!!! Great video as always champ! shoutouts to john, zach, HB and dudley making an apperarance too
Funny enough, the toughest boss for me, from what I can recall, was actually one from the Dawn of Souls expansion to FF2 (which is only in the GBA and PSP versions). It was Ultima Weapon. Unless you took a TON of time to grind, getting this guy down was tough for me. Took me a good few days to finally grind enough to get him down and proceed.
I played FF II on the GBA (the "Dawn of Souls" version, that also had FF I) and I have to agree with the majority of players, that it's my least favorite of the classic FF games (honestly though, it's still worlds better than the truly bad entries of the series...), really mainly due to the lack of a "normal" experience and leveling up system. I don't exactly blame the devs, after all, it was only the second game in the series, but yeh, the end result is what it is. For me, pretty much the only fight that gave me trouble was the final Emperor fight; which I actually kind of like. I feel like with the majority of FF games, well, the ones I played at least, the final boss was generally a bit on the too easy side. Not with FF II, there, it was hard as ****, and since it IS the final boss, well, I found that to be very fitting. I'm not the kind of guy to say that every game has to be, or should be, very difficult and whatnot, but for a final boss... Yeh, I think the final boss should be the hardest part of the game; at least for games that don't have optional superbosses and whatnot. Once you beat that, you beat the game, so having that part be really hard makes the whole journey feel more rewarding, and unlike games where the whole game is very hard, it's much more unlikely that players will be scared away by the difficulty because, well, they made it all the way to the very end already. Might as well push through that, as well c: But yes, those are just my two cents, haha
ff2 is such a great game. Best version is the dawn of souls game. the extra end story where they go to heaven is just amazing as a set piece. that being said, the emporer fight with the secondary characters is definitley one of the hardest fights ive been in. if i didnt have that guide letting me knwo to keep my characters with the best items when they die...im sure i wouldnt have been abe to beat it at all. So through sheer knowledge alone, without it, emporer is the hardest boss in that version of the game.
Check out the PSP version if you ever get the chance There's more refinements to the gameplay system (notably, a dedicated Defend action was added), but there's an extra series of dungeons in the form of the Arcane Labyrinth with really cool story stuff hidden deep within The Soul of Rebirth campaign from the GBA version is also brought over
2:14 damn lol and then (border) wall 😂 to reduce resistance. Wish the ancient (curse) and sleep swords showed effects on enemies. Ultima weapon was very tough in mobile/psp versions, though gba spil of rebirth I think may be easier. Definitely give ricard a blood sword and ancient for that (though scott does have an ancient sword I got lucky with). Pixel remaster lacks this extra but poison axe does good damage, which 4 vs ultima weapon's 25k hp was a joke.
I am playing pixel remaster version and am doing "mandatory fights only" run (no chest monsters, with "encounters off" boost) and Chimera fight was definitely the hardest fight for me. If I don't get Preemptive Strike, and cast lv 3 Barrier before they act, it's basically game over for me.
Fantastic content mate, let's go

I watched FFI yesterday, and was looking at your channel for the next one. FFII is my favourite in the series. I love the level up systems
Great video! I had no idea there was a glitch with the tomes. To think I spent so much time beating myself up to grind out stats!
Been loving these videos, syo! Always love a good breakdown of mechanics and strategies in JRPGs
Good shit. Hope to help you eventually on one of these.

The boss that caused me the most trouble was the one that if you dont pick up a secret weapon, you lose.
I think that was FFII...
the best thing that came from ff2 is the SaGa franchise
