Dude's, you are "Jamming" possibly to your grandparents hair band from the '80's! It is so Awesome to watch the younger generation listen to and rocking out to '80's hair band music! Just like Bob Seger's line in the song Old time Rock and Roll, " today's music doesn't have the same soul". Eddie Van Halen was the Best lead guitarist and synthesizer player. David Lee Roth was the front man for the band and he studied Martial Arts during that time and that's why he was so athletic and limber. Alex Van Halen was the drummer and Michael Anthony was the Bass player. RIP Eddie Van Halen. Rock On Van Halen! 🤘🤟✊🤙👊💥🔥
In December of 1979, I went to a see a British punk band, Sham 69, at the Roxy, a club in Hollywood. As the crowd and I were slowly walking to the front door, the exit, I could hear people yelling "Van Halen sucks, Van Halen isn't worth a f..." & other expletive deleted statements.I wondered what was going on. The aisle I was on made a rt. turn to the front door. There was a half-moon shaped booth on my right. Sitting there was David Lee Roth with 2 smoking hot chicks on each side of him. He put out his right hand and made a V with his fingers. The girl put a cigarette between them. He moved his hand to the girl on his left and she lit it. A true rockstar moment. I'm 71 and have been to so many shows and in concerts in my life, rock, punk rock, metal, hardcore, rockabilly, new wave and others but that was a moment I won't forget.
Ok boys. Eddie was not only one of the best guitarist of all time, but that smile and joy he radiates is unmanageable. Really really suggesting for you to listen and watch the video of Eddie Van Halen playing “irruption“ live in concert. He did this every night of a tour just him and the guitar. He made a cardboard guitar when he was three years old. His hands and his ears were made for this like no other human being I’ve ever known. This is a MUST SEE for anyone that’s a Van Halen fan or an electric guitar fan!!!please. You won’t regret it!!!
Dudes.....most of us wore clothes simular...but the hair.....hell yeah we did!...even used sun in product for the blond look and man perms!!...lol...still. I wouldn't give up those days for anything!
I am enjoying your channel immensely. You can dig songs that are 45 years old. I love seeing your reactions even though you already know many of them. You must have great parents!!
I'm 61 now (wow, even sounds weird to me at this point) and was one of millions who saw VH live in concert MANY times. They put on ripping great shows every single time. DLR was undoubtedly likely the most "agile" performer I've ever seen and EVH always always wore that gorgeous smile. They got along and it showed..until they didn't, lol. I only saw them one more time with Sammy Hagar and then I called it quits.
Fishnet T-shirt was common big hair..Yes the guys (A lot of em) were long, we just had fun.. MTV was in its infancy and at its peak, we would get home from school and put on MTV … long before they messed it up with reality shows.. it was simply Music all the time!!
How can you not comment on DLR stage presence & acrobatic performance?! I grew up with this and I’m still amazed when I watch it. He was a black belt and in super shape. Used to do live sword acts on stage too!
He was also in charge of catering at shows . He ran 3 hot dog stands ....but the band issued him an ultimatum after being late for some stadium shows . Either be a hot dog vendor ......or be van halens lead singer .... eventually he chose hot dogs...and thats how sammy came into the band
Yes, he really did kick his leg straight up over his head. As for the clothes, this was 30 years ago. Wait until your kids see you now 30 years from now. Hell, you'll even crack yourselves up.
Yeah. We wore these clothes. And had the hair. You had different levels of hair depending on what you were doing. “Going to a concert” hair would be your biggest hair. You will want to check out their song Panama. It captures their personality.
Eddie & Alex took piano lessons when they were kids. There father was a Dutch jazz pianist, clarinettist, and saxophonist both played gigs with their father's band
Songs to check out: Night Ranger - "Don't Tell Me You Love Me" and "You Can Still Rock In America" Damn Yankees - "Come Again" and "Coming Of Age" Steelheart - "I'll Never Let You Go" and "Can't Stop Me Loving You"
OMG this brings back such sweet memories! ❤️ I saw this tour in January 1984, promoting the album “1984”. Eddie wore that same outfit, and DLR wore all of these outfits during the show. I was sitting to the left of the stage (as you look at it) and DLR had a changing booth onstage where he would go to change outfits. The way it was positioned we could see the entrance to the changing area- and the last time he went in- he had his pants down before he got inside! He literally mooned us! But the best part was the 15-20 minute EVH solo of Eruption- he was playing killer lead behind his head, once he had a glass jar using it as a slide on the neck! 😲 One of the best concerts I’ve ever seen- and I’ve seen hundreds in my old age! 😂 But the best concert I’ve ever seen was Def Leppard 12/19/1989- the first tour after the drummer lost his arm. The stage was in the center of the coliseum, and it slowly rotated so we could all see Rick play drums with one arm…. No show will ever top that one! 🤘🏼🤘🏼❤️❤️❤️
Eddie was a trained in classical piano since he was a little kid. His father was a musician so both he and Alex were taught from early ages. Eddie had a grand piano at home & he's playing a grand piano in one of their videos. People who saw him just fooling around on piano said he was incredible. His music was greatly informed by classical music & he even named his son Wolgang, after Mozart. His son is now an incredible multi-instrumentalist/songwriter/singer who just released his 2nd album. He's already toured with Guns n Roses & Metallica, as well as his own tour with a great touring band. (he plays all the instruments on his albums). You should react to his video Don't Back Down, it's amazing and also with some funny bits. His band is called Mammoth WVH.
The clothes worn by bass guitarist Michael Anthony were pretty typical of the time. Eddie Van Halen's outfit was also typical, but a little more upscale and playful. David Lee Roth's closes are purely in the realm of hair band rock.
David Lee Roth about the song: To come up with a lyric for it, he remembered seeing a TV news report the night before about a suicidal jumper. Roth thought that one of the onlookers at such an event would inevitably yell "go ahead and jump". Roth bounced this suggestion off, however, instead of describing a potential suicide, the lyrics were written as an ontological invitation to action, life and love.
i can't listen to this song without turning it up really high. I remember hearing it for the first time back when i was 21 and thought Wow this is my song
Love it!! I wore parachute pants, but these guys were a party in concert, every time! They had a #1 at the time MTV was the shit! All Music, all the time! They are a deep dive of music. Keep rockin'!
Random story about partially about this song: [I believe] in the late 90s a radio DJ in Manchester, England got in SERIOUS trouble while he was doing a drive-time request slot, I think on Key 103. Anyway, the police had shut a nearby motorway because of a man wanting to "end himself" by throwing himself off a bridge over the motorway. One of the pissed-off Mancunian motorists who wanted the whole thing to be over and get home requested this song. The radio station got a pretty big fine, if memory serves.
No I saw a documentary that’s showed he missed doing the backflip twice and then nailed it on the third! Also on the back of the Van Halen 2 album that has him doing the splits in midair while holding the microphone stand…when he landed after the photo was taken he broke his left foot on landing.
THREE KEYS TO THE VAN HALEN SOUND: EDDIE’S GUITAR 🎸 ALEX’S SNARE DRUM 🥁 AND MICHAEL ANTHONY’S STRATOSPHERE BACKING VOCALS!!! VAN HALEN: I SAW ALL THE TOURS WITH ROTH FROM VAN HALEN 1 IN 1978 TO 1984 AND AGAIN IN 2013! I SAW 5150, OU812, FOR UNLAWFUL CARNAL KNOWLEDGE AND BALANCE WITH HAGAR. THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER EDWARD VAN HALEN!!! RIP EDDIE
For me the key to Van Halen's success -maybe not their sound-was DLR. he drove the fun element. They may have feuded often but they just seemed like your basic fun bar band. Not perfect but a jam that made everything a party. Probably why I prefer VanHalen to VanHagar who took themselves too seriously
DLR was like a comic book character and looked like a Pro wrestler of the times. His moves have never been duplicated. Because of this video, DLR I think might be the greatest frontman ever and I actually prefer Sammy, but this video caught a moment in time that was something special. The splits, the kicks and the flips. This is why acro is underrated and the Rybka twins are popular now. DLR actually looked like the long haired symbol of Led Zeppelin with wings and hands in the hair. He was that, but in real life. Because of the moves, DLR and Steven Tyler made such an impression on me, that they set a standard. I always thought frontmen should have been trained and recruited to move and wail like those guys.
Prior to this album, their albums were darker and heavier. This single came out before the album was released , and I couldn't believe it was Van Halen. It was way too happy lol. In 1979, they had " dance the night away", which made top 40, and was about as uplifting as they got at that time. " mean street" and " take your whiskey home" were more representative of their sound to lifelong fans
Eddie was high as a kite durring the video shoot. This (like Madonna's Lucky Star) is a perfect example of low budget but the artists genius makes the video a historic recording.
1978 at the Superdome in Louisiana I went to see The Rolling Stones. BTO opened for them and an unknown band by the name of Van Halen was the very opening band and unknown. They blew us away. BTW Eddie was trained in classical piano.
This used to get a lot of radio play. For big crazy hair, you could try Make Me Lose Control. It’s a good song anyways and there aren’t many reactions to it
Heard it the first time on the TV channel "Eurosport" as a kid in the 80's. They ran a video now and then compiled of motorsport crashes with this song as a theme. Remember a close up of a hub cap from a wheel settling down on the road to the sound at 4:07-4:10 after one crash. One of few glimpses of that video I still remember. You arent always too bright as a kid so I thought that was actually the video of the song back then :) They had matched the chorus "Jump" to cars flying up in the air.
@TwinsReact I don't know if anyone mention in the comments. Eddie Van Halen is the one who is playing the guitar on the Beat it song for Michael Jackson.
Van Halen had some fun and flashy clothes,as did many other groups of that time, but I will say the yelliw/ black and red/ black patterns were common for us all that year!😁
big hair was a thing in the 80's! I had a mullet only it was HUGE. Stuck straight up on top, buzzed close over the ears, the long part big and wavy. It was great but making it stick straight up was WORK!
You should absolutely react to some Saraya, as they sound pretty similar to some of the bands you reacted to in the past. They were a female led band from New Jersey who were around at around the same time as the aforementioned artists but unfortunately were nowhere near as lucky to receive the same attention, as they only lasted around 5 years together and disbanded in the early 90s (casualty of the changing of the guard in rock, one of the most undeserving if you ask me, as Sandi Saraya (the titular singer), Tony Bruno (guitarist), Gregg Munier (keyboardist), Gary Taylor/Barry Dunaway (bassists) and especially Chuck Bonfante (terrific drummer especially for the music they play) were extremely talented musicians with a knack for S-tier songwriting and musicianship, as well as thoughtful and deep lyrics for glam metal/80s hard rock standards. This is to me especially showcased in their masterful 1991 sophomore and final album When the Blackbird Sings, arguably one of my all-time favorite albums. Here are a few requests of their catalogue: Love Has Taken Its Toll Gypsy Child Runnin' Out of Time Back to the Bullet Drop the Bomb Queen of Sheba Hitchin' a Ride Seducer When the Blackbird Sings In the Shade of the Sun New World (scarily relevant ballad, especially these days) Hope you react to at least a few of these tunes in the future!

Do you guys have the M72 concerts nearby? It isn't in too many cities - but two different nights in most cities - the night I'm seeing has Mammoth (Eddie's son Wolfgang .. in studio he sings and plays all instruments), Pantera, and Metallica. What a family -- Dad (Grandpa) plays clarinet on Big Bad Bill (Van Halen - Diver), Al and Ed, and Wolfgang! My kids are similar ages as you guys - glad to see kids getting to these classics. Amazing you guys did the deep track 5150 -- but YOU NEED TO CHECK OUT THE LIVE VERSION OF 5150 on Live Without A Net. You will get respect from the deepest of fans doing that one with the studio version behind you! Keep it up!!
The clothes were a sign of the times. Think about Madonna in those days. This is the guy version. LOL Eddie is magic & David Lee Roth is always a hoot.
Hi guys from the uk, could you do a reaction video on the British melodic rock band FM Someday you'll come running, came out in 1989 from there second album "Tough it Out" the band are currently on their 40th Anniversary tour, with still 3 original members, drummer Pete Jupp, Singer Steve Overland, and bass guitarist Merv Goldsworthy, new guys in the band are Jim Kirkpatrick on guitar and Jem Davis on keys, cheers guys.

This song went to #1 in the charts. The music video helped elevate the song. It was always on MTV back in the 80s. Back when they played music lol
MTV plays music? Ah yes, that dissolved into hot garbage in mid 90s as I recall. Then had to go to VH-1...which also turned into hot garbage.
Yes,Eddie was always smiling,totally in his element!🎹🎸🎶😁
Miss that smile 😅

Diamond David Lee Roth....one of the greatest Fronten in Rock history!
Rock stars were above and beyond everyday clothes
Regarding David's back flip, not in reverse. He was into gymnastics when he was young and martial arts when he got older.
Fishnet T-shirt was common big hair..Yes the guys (A lot of em) were long, we just had fun.. MTV was in its infancy and at its peak, we would get home from school and put on MTV … long before they messed it up with reality shows.. it was simply Music all the time!!

Dave Lee Roth has a 4th degree black belt which helps him do all those splits.
I love this song very much. ❣ I was 15 when they released this single and their album "1984". 😁
David Lee Roth is easily one of the best frontmen in rock
Totally
DLR
A Frontman’s Frontman
😂
If I could play like Eddie, I'd be smiling too! He was the G.O.A.T.!!!
Oh the hair!!! ❤❤❤ When this would come on MTV in the 80's my kids and I would JUMP all over the apartment!
OMG! We ALL had hair like this to some degree! Lol. The bigger the better! I tried out for drill team to this song 😂
LOL. I remember hearing “the higher the hair the closer to God”. 😂 @basstwinsreact
Yes, we wore those clothes. And used a lot of hairspray (Aqua Net, the pink can).
oh yes!
Yes, he really did kick his leg straight up over his head. As for the clothes, this was 30 years ago. Wait until your kids see you now 30 years from now. Hell, you'll even crack yourselves up.

Eddie was a virtuoso , he was SO talented !
We wore this shit

@@wentibbetts7833 Actually, it was Greensboro, NC- but yes, “In the Round”. 🤘🏼🤘🏼❤️
80s clothes..we wore them!
You two are full of energy. I bet you could do a split in mid air too.😅 Some had money to dress that way. I just had the hair.
Spandex - not so much .
Hair - ABSOLUTELY!

In case your wondering David Lee Roth is a Black Belt 🥋 in Karate! You definitely would not of wanted to mess with him back in the day!
Random story about partially about this song:
[I believe] in the late 90s a radio DJ in Manchester, England got in SERIOUS trouble while he was doing a drive-time request slot, I think on Key 103.

Seen them a few times but wish I could have seen them on the first tour 😊
They were so charismatic!
As for the clothes I recognize stuff people wore every day but a lot of it is rocker style.
These videos were always great and David Lee Roth always show us his martial arts training techniques.
Ya'll should react to some of Dave's solo stuff! Yankee Rose, Just a Gigilo, California Girls,Just Like Paradise
Excellent guy excellent song Eddie’s a legend
This used to get a lot of radio play. For big crazy hair, you could try Make Me Lose Control. It’s a good song anyways and there aren’t many reactions to it
For a real enjoyment you should check out Eddie Van Halen Eruption....absolutely Amazing, Incredible !!
I'm 32 now, I have heard like that. Probably because I am a metal head.
fun pop rock song for sure.
@TwinsReact I don't know if anyone mention in the comments. Eddie Van Halen is the one who is playing the guitar on the Beat it song for Michael Jackson.

Eddie Van halen, guitarist in yellow, o e one best guitarist in the 80's and song writer!!
Please someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think MTV debuted this on New Year's night at midnight 1984. RIP Eddie ❤ greatest of all time
Yeah, we dressed like that in our free time.
Hair like that, yes. The clothing, def a rocker thing.
Eddie was always smiling because he was going home to Valerie Bertinelli!
Jam!
Love this song, takes me back to my childhood. The only bands that can do that are Kiss and Alice Cooper
We've lost the greatest rock guitarist of all time,R.I.P Eddie... James Zrenjad Desjardins
Eddie was classically trained in piano. He didn't like it😂. He and Alex his drummer brother switched instruments
You have to check out David's solo suff living in paradise
we tried to wear clothes like this the hair for sure lol
I would like you to to watch some Stryper old and their new stuff and compare it
They were as big as anyone back in the day.
Saw them in Phx
So good!
RIP Eddie

The clothes were a sign of the times. Think about Madonna in those days. This is the guy version. LOL Eddie is magic & David Lee Roth is always a hoot.
I wrote a song called "Sit"
You might as well sit SIT
