In this Topsy turvy world that we are all living in, it is so refreshing & grounding to come along with other wonderful humans doing mundane, zen & important things. Can't relay how much I appreciate what the two of you do.
Alex, you have a beautiful clear voice for storytelling. I'm not trying to hit on you, I'm old enough to be your grandfather sweetheart,. Every time you tell a story about an item I really enjoy it. Great find ladies. congrats!
Thank you, Northern Mudlarks, I live in New Zealand, and I love going to sleep, listening to your videos,, your music is fantastic, and your voices, so mellow, that help me sleep, thank you, guys,, goodnight, guys.😁
Wow, those buttons are gorgeous and thank you so much for all the history behind them, It's absolutely fascinating! I love the Dickens history too regarding the 'Blacking' bottle, though the portrait brought to life was a bit creepy lol. I believe the blacking was also used on cooking ranges and applied by the poor scullery maids early in the morning before the cook was awake. Great finds and a wonderful video! 😀💗 x
You found a lot of unusual things. I do enjoy the history of your finds. Thank you for dedicating so much time and heart into making your videos, you open a new book for many of us who wouldn't know about these things otherwise.
What wonder unusual finds this time!! It’s really astounding how some thin pieces of glass managed to survive being pushed and bounced around for a hundred years or more! And the history behind the pieces. It takes you to the places they were made and the people that touched them last, gives me chills! It was very tuff back then, it took tuff people to survive it. In the present day….you girls stay safe!! Take care. Happy Samhain!!
I’ve only recently found your channel(I’m in Australia) I love your finds but what I love more is the history and details you find and share as well. Thoroughly enjoy your channel.
Hello 👋 from New York USA you Guy's found Some Amazing Finds my Favorite Definitely Was the Pipe Bowls and the Ink Stoneware Jar Thank you for Bringing me Along with you Guy's I can't wait to see What you Find Next 👋 😊
I always love seeing what you find and the history of the items. I wish we had that type of thing to experience ourselves . Thank you for including us qll in you pursuits. Happy hunting ! deb
Another fantastic video, ladies! I so appreciate the time, effort and knowledge you put into each one. Thank you for sharing your amazing adventures with us.
Oh wow, the story of the beggar was so touching...I hope he made it back home and was welcomed back by his people...good on that magistrate to offer the money for him to get home and have a meal on the way. Justice at its finest ❤
Like the Prodigal son in the Bible making his way back home. The magistrate was very kind to pay the beggar man's fare and give him a bit extra for a meal on the way.
So enjoy the interesting finds and the stories. You both bring British Irish and Scott History alive. Thank You. As an American with Scott Irish and English ancestors I really really love each video.
I loved the back stories on the buttons and bottles that you found in this episode. You ladies definitely have lots of rich history in your area. Kudos to you two keep up the great work!!
This was a great history class today girls .Those buttons really survived well didn’t they ,and were in good condition considering.. they were buried. The glass tower of solid glass could well have been used for mixing and smoothing the paints together with the binders . I have only seen it done once and thought ,nope I would rather buy my paints already done as it takes ages lol!..Thanks for taking us with you on this adventure..Love n Light 🥰
Wow what awesome finds. The stories behind the buttons and that amazing bottle. Thank you ladies. Appreciate all you do. Sending love from America ❤️❤️
The ceramic pots, ink-refill bottles and today’s blacking bottle are wonderful finds. The stories behind the child labour is sad, though, and the conditions they often worked in, just awful. I’m so glad that you found more buttons…they really are interesting.
Thank you for yet another delightful clip My ears pricked up when you mentioned Thurso as my great grandmother was born there, there is a castle ( fortified house really) called Brimms castle, it is mostly a pile of stones in the grass but it is my heritage.
Those wild edaberries are very good for fighting colds and keeps you from getting sick from the flu i drive around picking them and boil them with cinnamon and nutmeg with honey eda berry elixir is exspensive here so i make my own its very tasty to.
I'm so happy you found more of the brass buttons, the history on them is so interesting.I love hearing all the history on items you find,we would of never have known otherwise.Great finds as usual Thank you❤
I quite enjoy seeing the items you dig up. I feel the best part of your videos is when you show the history of an item you found. I find that fascinating. Thank you for showing the history of your part of the world.
Such joy seeing y’all have posted a new video! Love the interesting history on the blacking stoneware and the buttons! Great finds! So enjoy watching you find your treasures and sharing your joy!
Wonderful haul with interesting facts! Good to see both of you! Been celebrating my 74th birthday with my son and my daughter will be with us in Nov….Just love the stories!
Wow so many lovely finds and so much amazing history behind those buttons. There is so much to mention but It's surprising that some of those glass or pottery items survive intact. Thank you for sharing and see you next week.
HI 💝 I HAVE BEEN WATCHING FOR YEARS 🤗 I SO ENJOY EVERYTHING YOU BOTH DO , AND IT GREAT HOW YOU ALWAYS GIVE THE HISTORY.. ALSO LOVE ALL YOUR JEWELRY VIDEOS 💝 YOU'RE BOTH AWESOME 💝THANK YOU SO MUCH.
How amazing to find a link to Mr Dickens' own history! Maybe he glued and wrapped the very bottle you found. Still loving your channel and all your efforts, ladies❤️
@@NorthernMudlarks Hi Gail and Alex. I wanted you both to know that I love your content. This week's finds were very interesting and had loads of variety. To use your turn of phrase Alex, you discovered pipemageddon rex there at the bottle dump. Those new [old] buttons you found were really interesting and striking in their details and the historical information was interesting. If I may I'd like to make an observation and a suggestion about the narration of the cleaned up finds. I had my volume up as high as possible and could hardly hear either of you when you were describing your most interesting finds. The volume was fine when you were bottle digging and I had no problems hearing you then, just not when you were describing the buttons and the blacking bottle. Perhaps it would help if the music in the background whilst you're narrating was a bit lower. It tends to drown out your voices and I do so love listening to your accents when you're narrating. Best wishes to you both from here in New Bern, North Carolina. I know you're going to hit 100K subscribers very soon! 🎃🎃🎆✨🎉
I've been watching your channel since you first started and really enjoy the two of you. It's always fun to watch collabs too! The historical information you are able to find and share makes the finds much more interesting. Maybe you can do another ten things about us for a Christmas video or a Christmas craft video?
Always enjoy when you find things marked with local places to me like Birmingham ☺️ I try to collect local antiques from car boots. Would love to try mudlarking for myself; it always looks like so much fun ✨
@@releasingendorphins232 oh that’s cool 🙂 a car boot is essentially an outdoor flea market/yard sale. Mostly people selling household things for dirt cheap that they want to get rid of like clothes and decor, as well as dealers that sell antiques/vintage or brand new items.
What a great haul!! I am so envious of UK garbage! Lol, seriously someday i would love to go mud larking along river banks, in an old dump, doesn't matter. It would be heaven to me!
I am so envious of your lovely finds and also the beautiful elderberries that you photographed. I would be picking those berries to make elderberry syrup which is lovely mixed with rose hip syrup and honey for coughs and sore throats. I have a hard time finding elderberries for picking. Thanks for the wonderful video! Cheers!! The big mortar looks like ones I used in university in chemistry.
What a lovely lot of finds today. The hat pin was lovely with its white swirl and so many pipe bowls. I have two of those blacking pots that oh dug up here in Devon. So whats going in the window of wonders this week? Loved the little inkwell and more buttons!! Keep well you two and stay safe.
Wow, what a mixed bag of different finds on this lark ladies. I love the links you do with the history. Its a weird way of bringing the past back in a random way. A way of remembering how raw living was. The way people lived and died, way back when. That moving portrait was quite spooky. I thought i was seeing things at first. 😂 That made the story all the more real. I thought he was quite a handsome fellow. I bet he was quite a catch back in the day. That slate that was found was amazing. In that it was still so whole. Its always a surprise to see what lays beneath. Thanks for sharing your larks. We love them. X
Hi Alex and Gail - I inherited a similar button to the one shown at 9:26 from a great uncle. I though it was a more recent button, but am glad it's not. Mine is made of brass. Also, I think that small lid with rose bud would fit that small ceramic jar. I love these videos, and the history that you provide.
These were terrific finds today!!!! I really enjoy the history behind the buttons and blacking pot. Hope you continue to go back to this great spot.!!!!🥰🥰🥰
With the way your videos have been evolving since I subscribed about 2-1/2 years ago, it ought to be 100K by the end of the year. 😁🥳 The stories behind the finds are so interesting, and your effort to uncover them is superb. 🥰 I love the tiny shard of egg cup. I shall entertain myself this week by trying to imagine what it could be made into. 😁😜 See you next week. Bye for now. 😊💛👍
I loved the blacking bottle. I have often attempted to imagine Dickens Londer, but it is elusive. All of the sights, sounds, an scents. Somewhat hard to get one's head around it.But as you have shown, one can still touch the objects of the era.Isnt that a privilege? Cheers. Harry. Bond.
Hello my greetings to you two, I remember using a shale in the 1960's. At the end of those years they became artificial shales, a hard layer of carboard. Then came the inkwell with pen that I still like to write with.
In this Topsy turvy world that we are all living in, it is so refreshing & grounding to come along with other wonderful humans doing mundane, zen & important things. Can't relay how much I appreciate what the two of you do.

Very nice to listen to the stories and history of the objects you guys find. 24:22 Alex is so sweet!
The clear glass wand should go into the window of wonder. Love you two so very much. Hugs :)
I loved the Dickens story and was touched by the humanity shown towards the man from Aberdeen. Thank you so much ❤️
