Is it possible to update the pattern link ? :'( The tutorial is wonderful but without any pattern it will be difficult (by the way I LOOOVE your channel
I love how clear your explanations are, I'm definitely looking forward to more narrated step-by-step breakdowns of your projects! Your blog entries are also very clear, but I find it fascinating to actually see your project take shape as you explain your process :)
A very good an structured tutorial! I just wonder about the two small pieces of steel you use - acutally they are not really needed, I already made a lot of paniers and always used only the three bended hoops and they work very well. I also sew the bottom closed and cut the inner pannel to the waist, so they are completely closed and you can use them as a pocket ;)
Another excellent video, and i love that your starting to narrate your videos. idk if you already have something for this or have time to make it, but if you could make a video or blog posts on making an elliptical crinoline that would be awesome!
tip sew a length of narrow ribbon, hemming tape or bias tape to end of tube then sew the tube length with the tape inside. careful to not sew tape into seam. pull tape and fiddle with sewn end till the tube is turning inside out, ie right side out. pick out stitches or just cut pulling tape off. hope this is helpful in future.😊
This is so informative and a pleasure to watch. Keep it up! :D I've been trying to learn sewing for years but I always get stuck as soon as things get a bit more elaborate. Your videos are very inspiring, and your costumes are breathtaking.
Ooh. I bet that could be made with strong fabrics to hold a lot of things. You could even make one insulated. This could be a neat variant of a fanny pack.
Hey Angela! I was wondering if you could do a basic sewing video for those who are beginners? I want to start sewing after finding your channel, but I don't know terms or anything really. Anyways I hope you would take my request, thanks! 😊
i love your patterns and tutorials!! im planning on buying the mccalls m7885 pattern for some really pretty fabric i have. are these the paniers you used with that gown?
This video has been so immensely helpful. I was wondering what the dimensions of your steel boning is for this project. The largest I've been able to find from Canadian companies is 14 x 0.6 mm.
They actually discontinued the boning I used in this video. It's been replaced with something called hooping steel which I haven't worked with yet, so I don't know the dimensions of it, sorry!
Finally someone who not only loves historical/period pieces, but also helps others to make them. One day, could it be possible to make a tutorial on the bodies of a 14th century piece? Thank ya :)
***** As far as I know bodies weren't worn in the 14th century, since dresses had a much more "natural form" shape in the 1300s and 1400s. But I did write a blog post about making my tudor bodies - it's on my wordpress! It won't really be a tutorial, but my next "Making of" series (after I finish Cinderella) will be of a medieval dress!
sorry I meant to say 15th century but thank you for the response :) I'll look forward to your new series and will make sure to check out the blog! Thanks again.
hello hello~..quick question,i wanna make a hoopskirt but what if i cant find hoop wire?and can not buy it online cause money problems..can anything else be used? that maybe cheap..if not then its fine ill save up :)
Hi, would really like to make these, could you please update the pattern or can I buy your hoop pattern somewhere? The tutorials you make is awesome thank you!
I know this is an old video, but I’ve been looking for the pattern everywhere and can’t find it since the blog doesn’t exist anymore, has anyone had luck finding it? I’d love to try and sew these pocket hoops myself!
I was shown a different way to put bias tape on, you open the tape sew down one side then you fold the other side down and then sew that down. I’m not sure if it’s harder or not but that is what they told you to do in home economics class.
Bias tape is slightly stretchy while the ribbon stays ridged. If bias tape is used for the channels, it leaves room for the boning wire to warp causing the garment to become misshapen
That looks so easy!~ but I know I won't be able to do it like that XD however, watching this was v calming in some way. :) Keep being awesome! :D thanks for the informative video
Lovely work, but the fabric you used is not at all appropriate for the 18th century. This doesn't matter if it's not your goal to be 100% accurate, but one should always be aware when they're making accuracy compromises.
Emmaisanerdfighter I'm very much aware it's not completely accurate, but lightweight cottons were frequently used for panniers in the 18th century...even though they probably didn't have a floral print to them! I also made the choice to use steel boning instead of wood or reed, since they are so breakable by comparison. When it comes to garments you don't see I tend to aim to make them practical, more so than completely accurate. But I know not everyone feels that way!
Is it possible to make those a part of the skirt of the dress? I've been playing with hoop skirts as substitutes for crinoline in my 50's inspired dresses and that seems to work well for some styles. Yet, I am planning to make my own wedding dress and was considering pocket hoops. Have you ever played around with them being a part of a garment? And if so, did it work well?
I've seen it done and it looked just fine, but the lady did express some regret that the hoops prevented the skirt from being able to fold up properly without either bending the boning or crinkling the skirt. She had it sitting there taking up a good foot of her closet space for the longest time before she finally took the boning out for storage.
I am so glad I found you! This is so helpful for my doll! I'm trying to make a Rococo Style dress! :D
Omg I found you here :DDD I love your work ;)
Why am i not suprised to find one of my favorite dollmakers here. :)
It's because of your videos that I've become interested in learning to sew costumes and clothing! I'd watch anything you put up!
Reminds me of wearing a backpack under a rain poncho, only more elegant. This storage capacity is legendary.

in a world of beauty bloggers you are the biggest refreshment I've had in a long time. Amazing work, I've watched ALL of your videos, and I love them!

You won’t need a book bag when going to college lol. Thank you for showing this I always wondered how they worked and made x

Angela, this is AMAZING! Thank you so much! I made one following your tutorial. I was impressed at how light and flexible it is! Thank you!!!
Hi! Do you still have the pattern? The link doesn't work and I saw that you made it so maybe you have it on your computer still 🙈
Ooh. I bet that could be made with strong fabrics to hold a lot of things. You could even make one insulated. This could be a neat variant of a fanny pack.
It doesn’t look like the pattern is still available.

Angela how do I scale this pattern from my computer? Can you tell me what the measurements are?
Your talent is amazing and I love watching all of your videos
do you know of any hooping wire that is strong yet very flexible? Flexible enough to expand when it is compressed/ held back?

You are a true artist. Excellent video. Thank you for taking the time to share.
I loved this you should make more!
Awesome video I can't wait to see what you make next! ( ps. I would love to see how to make a corset )
How do i calculate the size of the pockets?
Is it just by feeling, or is it by mattematic?
What shirt and corset are you wearing in this video?
I made these pocket hoops but am having trouble with them collapsing under the weight of many petticoats. Is there a fix for this?
+Caitlin Cooney Did you try white steel boning?
Did you make that corset or buy it? Either way, I need it. It's perfect for a piece I want to work on
How big should the pattern pieces be? I'll need to hand draw them so I need measurements please >
Love your videos!! Maybe next a civil war dress or ballgown??
I have larger measurements than you do, should I adjust the pattern pieces?
I love your videos and your creations good job Angela!
Omg this is amazing. I will definitely try to make these one day. Thanks for the informative video. I love all the stuff you make.

Twilightwolves1 You may be able to find something similar at hardware stores, but I am unsure.
If it still matters, someone suggested a certain type of pipe, I think like 1/4” pvc? Said she liked it the best.
What kind of ribbon did you use? Is it grosgrain?
wow! cool! is this possible to make but around your WHOLE waist/hips?
you should search for a tutorial on how to make a crinoline or petticoat!
What do I use this for? Is it for more full look? Please tell me?!😐😃😁
yeah you wear it so the skirt is not just hanging down :)
Hi, would really like to make these, could you please update the pattern or can I buy your hoop pattern somewhere?

So do I just print the pattern on a A4?

Don't know if you will see this but if you Google, at least three vendors are providing a pattern, and that's without scrolling very far ❤
how do I print the pattern? wich scale?

Underwear you can carry your dog, books, a bottle of wine and a picnic. The 18th century rocks
Would you be able to update the pattern link.
When they had bigger pockets then us lol
They also had smaller tie on pockets for small change, keys, jewelry etc
