    Hi Everyone! Here’s the formula for the skirt if you need to make adjustments to the width of the tiers:
    1st tier= waistband measurements x 1.5
    2nd tier= tier 1 measurements x 2
    3rd tier= tier 2 measurements x 2
    Hopefully this helps! Happy Sewing✂️❤️

      Hi! I'm a little bit confused because this math doesn't seem to go with what you've got at 0:48 in the video. You've got your tier 2 at 27.5" which would make the total tier 2 circumference 110" compared to tier 1 at 60", is that correct? But that doesn't make tier 2 = tier 1 x 2.
      By the math you've put in the comment, if tier 1 is 60", tier 2 should be 120" in total, and tier 3 should then be 240" in total. Then each tier is gathered to half its original length. Am I completely off base here? 😅

    • @SewBlack
      @SewBlack  Рік тому +8

      You’re right. Just use the math you got / the math in the pinned comment and it’ll be fine, a difference of 10” won’t really make that big of a difference in a design like this.

    • @witchthimble3074

      @@SewBlack fair! Okay, now to see if I have anything in 60". :D Thanks!

    • @Ash91837

      Heyyy how many peices of each tier are there? Im a bit confused 😅

    • @SewBlack
      @SewBlack  Рік тому +2

      So it depends on how wide your fabric is (and also what your measurements are), but if your using a 60” wide fabric like the one I used in the video then you would need 2 for the 1st and 2nd tiers and 4 for the 3rd to give the full length for each tier.

      Ahh that sounds so cute!! Also low-key jealous that you found a gingham print WITH strawberries on it 🍓 Strawberries are one of my favorite motifs in lolita! So I already know your blouse is going to turn out super cute! And then pairing it with a tiered skirt is just going to be 🥰❤️❤️❤️

    Oh, that top stiching really adds a level of professionalisim! I never even concidered it and instead just folded all the seams into themselves and either whipstiched them (showing seams) or just zigzaged them (invisible layers). What a good tip, will definitely pic it up on my next layeredskirt project.
    As everyone has alredy pointed out: this tutorial video was really easy and fun to follow. You did great job with showing all the important details imo.

    • @SewBlack
      @SewBlack  2 роки тому +3

      Right? lol It's a super small detail but it seriously make such a difference in the end result. Plus usually brand will do this anyway but make hide the top stitching by placing lace over those areas, which is another option you try if you don't like the look of top stitching. - Also thank you so much for your feedback! It makes me feel a lot less nervous now about making future step-by-step tutorials so I really appreciate it! ❤️

    thank you so much for uploading this…it is so perfect to me because i actually recently tried making a skirt by tracing one of my meta skirts…but it was hard to figure the exact measurements of each piece, since it was shirred. so i messed up big time..it was a three tiered skirt like this too!now i have a perfect guideline to look at and try again: D

    • @SewBlack
      @SewBlack  2 роки тому +8

      Ohh, I know what you mean! In my case though, I don't actually own any meta pieces (aside from a parasol and small tote bag) lol So me attempting to make this skirt consisted of me looking at dozens of low quality skirt photos on lolibrary and trying to guess at how they constructed their skirts. While my skirt isn't an exact copy of a meta skirt, I think I managed to get pretty close, so you could definitely use this as a base to recreate your own! - So sending you all the good luck and sewing motivation for your next attempt at trying to make this skirt 🍀👍🏾❤️

    You explained the steps super well! I don't think I've ever seen a waistband done like that, and it made perfect sense the way you explained it. Do you mind saying what length your waistband pieces were? I'm fairly sure mine would need to be longer to the point were I'd have to change the length of all the tiers as well. It would give me a good starting point for the math.

    ooh this is a wonderful tutorial!! i’ve had a large pink bedsheet that i thrifted hanging around for a while and i think this is the perfect project for it hehe
    edit - do you have any tips for sizing this pattern up? will the proportions still work if i just add the same amount extra to each tier, or should i graduate my additional width too?

    • @SewBlack
      @SewBlack  2 роки тому +2

      Hi! So the math for tiers are as follows:
      1st tier= waistband measurements x 1.5
      2nd tier= tier 1 measurements x 2
      3rd tier= tier 2 measurements x 2
      So if you’re looking to resize your skirt to make it bigger, really the only measurement you need is your waistband length and then it’s just doubling the length of each tier (minus the 1st tier, if X’s by 2 it may look a little bulky which is why I reduced it to 1.5). Hopefully this helps! Also sorry for the delayed response 😅

    Hello :) i really want to try this pattern. The skirt looks AMAZING but i’ve got a problem. In my country we use cm. When you said « 1st tier= waistband measurements x 1.5
    2nd tier= tier 1 measurements x 2
    3rd tier= tier 2 measurements x 2 » x2 and x1,5 is in inch ?

    • @peacheilish6989
      @peacheilish6989 Рік тому +1

      If i don’t convert x2 inch to cm, my tier 3 would gave me 345,6 cm. It seems to be so huge (in inch 136) . I really don’t understand :(

    • @SewBlack
      @SewBlack  Рік тому +2

      Hi! Yes all the measurements in the video are in inches but regardless of whether you use inches or cm the math used to create the skirt is still the same. For the skirt I made, the full length of my 2nd tier was about 279 cm (110 inches) and my 3rd tier was 558cm (220 inches). It’s supposed to be a full skirt that can hold a lot of petticoat, however if you’re worried about it being too big you could always use x1.5 instead of x2 to bring down the fullness.

    • @SewBlack
      @SewBlack  7 місяців тому +1

      Hi! So I had to check on this because I honestly had no idea 😅 The one I’m currently using is a universal 90/14 (size 14), which I believe came with my machine. I do have other needles for working with thicker fabrics like denim and a few twin needles I use from time to time but other than that I don’t have much experience with other types of needles. Maybe you could try using a larger/heavy duty needle? It could be that the type of needle you have isn’t strong enough to handle the type of fabric you’re using 🤔 But again, I have very limited experience with this.

    I'm sorry I'm really confused about all the measurements, why does tier 1 not say cut on the fold but on the placement info there's 2 on the fold??? it should only be one not on the fold so when you cut it it makes 2 because of the folded fabric, is this correct??

    • @SewBlack
      @SewBlack  10 місяців тому

      Tier 1 isn’t placed on the fold in the picture, only tiers 2 and 3 if you look at it. It looks like you’re confusing tier 1 and 2 which is likely why the measurement info isn’t making sense. Tier 1 isn’t cut on fold, which means when you cut it out on your fabric you’ll have 2 pieces for your tier 1 (A front piece and a back piece), so yes you’re correct on that part.

    Question, if my hip measurement is over 15” more than my waist am I better off adding a couple extra inches to the waistband pattern or just leaving it as is and pulling it on over my head? I carry all my weight around the hip area and none in the chest so I could definitely get away with pulling it over my head but being able to step in and pull it up is so much easier that I figured I’d ask if that would cause a chain reaction if annoying pattern adjustments or anything

    Question!
    If your wait measurement is larger then the first tier, how do I figure that out? How much longer do the repairs have to be?

    • @SewBlack
      @SewBlack  2 роки тому +3

      Hello! So basically the measurements for the tiers are as follows:
      1st tier = waistband measurements x 1.5
      2nd tier = 1st tier measurements x 2
      3rd tier = 2nd tier measurements x 2
      So in your case if your waist measurements are larger than what I have listed, all you need to do is take that measurement and X’s it by 1.5 to give you your tier 1 length and then X’s each additional tier by 2 to get your remaining tiers. Hopefully that helps and makes sense 😅

      Hiya. Upscaling the pattern is not that easy.
      Don't increase the bottom Tier or it will be too big for your crinoline/hoop. I made this mistake :(
      This means the 2nd Tier and 1st tier may need to change or not depending on your Waist size to look gathered the right amount.
      I'm new to sewing so I can't really help more than that but my Tier 3 length was 5 folds instead of 4 using this basic multiplier method and it looks hilariously too big on the bottom😅
      That said, thank you for this tutorial! It's very inspirational and helpful even with the upscaling trouble. Just posting this for any other future plus size sewists to save on mistakes

    Sorry to bother but i had trouble understanding if the measures are supposed to be 36" for waistband (in my case), 60" for the first tier, 55" for the second tier and 110" for the third tier, or rather 110" for second tier and 220" for third tier?
    English isn't my first language and as an european im not familiar with inches, hence the confusion

    Has anyone tried to modify this to make it work with a 44" wide fabric? I've found one that's super cute but sadly it's not wide enough

    • @123goldenlily
      @123goldenlily 2 роки тому +1

      Okay I think I've figured it out. I'm short so I can just rotate the pattern 90° (so the width of the fabric is how long the skirt is), but if you're taller then you might need to do that and then also use two pieces of fabric for the pattern

    • @shelby965
      @shelby965 2 роки тому +2

      I actually *just* made this skirt today and I could only find 44" fabric as well. What I did was fold my fabric in the opposite direction it was sold to me, (rotating it like you said). But, I had to use three yards of fabric! I bought one piece that was two yards, then a separate one yard piece. Two yards was definitely not enough if you're going by the exact measurements. (I also had to sew two of the tier 2 pieces together as well, because I didn't have room for them to be the fold like she said.)
      After you cut out the pieces, just follow the instructions just like normal. My skirt came out absolutely adorable and I'm about to start a second one!

    Do we use the formula for the waistband for all tier pieces?

    • @SewBlack
      @SewBlack  2 роки тому +2

      Hi! No you only use it for the waistband. If you need to make adjustments to the rest of the skirt the formula for that is as follows:
      1st tier= waistband measurements x 1.5
      2nd tier= tier 1 measurements x 2
      3rd tier= tier 2 measurements x 2
      Hopefully this helps!!

    I would like to know if this would fit me. I pull my bottoms over my stomach so I’d want it longer to reach down further, but not to look ugly. And I’m also a heavier person, and I wear 4XL. So I’d need help with measurements. Also, I’ve never sewn before so this would be my first project!

    • @SewBlack
      @SewBlack  Рік тому +1

      Hello! So as far as the skirt fitting you or not, that would depend entirely on you and how you make it. The tutorial requires you to use your own measurements in order to make the skirt, so based off that then it should fit you fine.
